Guest Reviews
- Luikinga (10/5): - Foood Norhing
- JUAN (10/5): Amazing food and relaxing place - Very traditional Ryokan with amazing food and staff. The baths were very relaxing
- Beatrice (9/5): -
- Murdock (10/5): Had a great time! - Staff were exceptional, food was excellent, and the onsens were amazing!
- Siew li (5/5): We will not be back. - Breakfast was authentic and the staff were friendly in general except for one young chap, who was tasked to show us to our room but didn’t help with any of our luggages seeing our hands and backs were full. We need to make our own bed (futon) for both nights. It was quite an experience but something unexpected for the amount we paid.
- Emmanuelle (10/5): - La qualité de l'accueil, les chambres et les repas qui étaient excellents
- James (8/5): Great family-friendly onsen, disappointing bento dinner - The staff are fantastic, super welcoming and the onsen is geared for families with kids/babies - even having two (cooler) private family baths where your baby/toddler can join you in a special shallow area, which was a real highlight. Breakfast was tasty and varied too Despite booking specifically for the kaiseki ryori, which is mentioned as a highlight in a number of other booking.com reviews, we were served a bento meal. This was disappointing but we initially assumed that was what everyone got - until we left our room and saw literally every other room (who all had babies)was receiving kaiseki. Sadly missing out rather ruined our stay which we'd been looking forward to as a highlight of the holiday. On mentioning this to staff in the morning we were told the booking.com package only comes with a bento meal (despite plenty of reviews apparently to the contrary) - so be warned (especially if Western and travelling with a small child), you may be served a burger instead of the elaborate cuisine everyone else gets! It also made it a rather expensive stay at almost twice the price of other local options.
- Webber (10/5): Best part of our trip to Japan - The hospitality blew us away, the staff were lovely and did everything they could to make sure you had a special stay. Perhaps a little challenging to get to if you don't have a car but that can't be helped when the location is so beautiful.
- Léa (10/5): Une pause relaxante ! - Bain privé en plein air, bain public (très chaud !), repas du soir servi en chambre, très bon buffet pour le petit déjeuner :)
- Lorenz (9/5): Classic, well-run Ryokan with good food and great staff. - Super clean and organized. Very good meals. Loved the tea supply. Onsen was nice. Well managed. Although I was there alone, they were clearly very kid and baby friendly and equipped accordingly. MST be great for young parents.
- Danielle (10/5): Exceptional - We would highly recommend Nakaya Ryokan to anyone else we know travelling. We thought the hospitality was exceptional and we are very grateful for the experience we had. They helped us manage our luggage via storage. They were always so helpful and kind. They offer private onsens which were outstanding. They were also able to accommodate us for an extra night while we negotiated train delays and cancellations and so much more. Thank you Nakaya Ryokan Team! I can't think of anything specific to Nakaya Ryokan.
- Anna (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kilian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tsiresy (10/5): Exceptional - Nice room and onsen Nothing
- Valentin (10/5): Exceptional - The staff, the breakfast, the dinner, the quietness, the two private onsen. Everything was so lovely! We both really really enjoyed it, and we will surely come back next time we're in Japan! This place is best when you have a car. We did it in public transport, and when you want to go skiing during the day somewhere else than Tanigawadake Tenjindaira, or hiking, it means that you might need to walk 15 MN to go to the bus stop.
- Lillian (10/5): Incredible, relaxing, and delicious food. - Nakaya Ryokan was the best place we stayed on our trip to Japan. The hotel is beautiful, the rooftop onsens were a highlight and the staff were incredibly helpful, friendly, and welcoming. We will 100% come back one day. We got around with taxis and local busses but next time we’ll hire a car.
- Ji (9/5): Superb -
- Brendon (8/5): Very good -
- Wipaporn (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gemma (10/5): Lovely relaxing Ryokan - We loved staying in this little ryokan. The staff are really friendly. The baths are great. We got 2 private bath times to use the wooden and stone baths. The place is so traditional and quiet. Parking is right next door. We loved making up our own beds and the free tea station. It is close to the train tracks so we did hear a couple of trains in the night but it’s only a minor issue as the place is worth it.
- Michael (10/5): Amazing food lovely room - Very nice room, amazing Onsen on the roof of the place, phenomenal food brought to the room.
- Estelle (10/5): Beautiful mountain retreat - Staff were lovely and the dinner and breakfast were delicious. The onsen rooms were also good. A shuttle from the station would have been the cherry on top
- Kevin (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing stay. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Food delicious and was great to stay in a more traditional hotel.
- Akin (10/5): Exceptional - Clean and spacious room, they provided vegetarian dinner for us on request, rich breakfast buffet, yummy water, friendly staff
- Marta (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing gem in the mountains! We stayed here one night whilst driving back to Tokyo and wished we could stay longer! The room was very big and the futons were super comfortable. The staff was super welcoming and went definitely above and beyond for us. We decided to have the set meal which was incredible, might seem pricey when booking but for what you get and the experience in itself is worth every penny and to be honest even more! There are different onsens in the building, some outdoors and some indoors and there is the possibility of booking one of the outdoor ones privately. I would definitely stay here again!
- Wojcieman (8/5): Very good ryokan - Very good service and friendly staff. The onsens were amazing. Good water.
- Corinne (9/5): Superb - Very friendly and cozy…
- Muhammad (10/5): Exceptional - My 4th time staying at Nakaya Ryokan. Always my favorite place and town in Japan. I always love the staff family-like hospitality.
- Shiau (10/5): awesome stay experience from the ryokan. Recommended - Close to bus and train station ( warning: low train frequency and weather-dependent). Beautiful valley sceneries nearby. A awesome stay experience from the ryokan esp. its outdoor rooftop hotspring and considerate settings everywhere for family guests with babies. JR JOETSU LINE a very low train frequency..
- Robert (10/5): Amazing! - Wow! It was fantastic. The staff were lovely. We got to choose from a variety of patterns of yakata (robes) which was really special. The room (with an ensuite toilet and sink!) was massive. We were provided with 5 futons so we could pile them on top of each other, great for westerners used to softer beds. This made it comfortable. The homemade tiramisu we ordered on arrival was so tasty. The cup challenge for free juice was fun. And best of all, the private onsen experience! We booked 2 time slots (as it was quiet), one in the stone bath and one in the wooden bath. We loved both, but the stone bath was nicest. It was all amazing!
- Derek (9/5): Superb -
- Shoyu (9/5): Naomi-san and another male staff (sorry but i didn’t managed to get your name) was extremely helpful in orientating us w - Very quiet, clean rooms, onsen was amazing esp in the cold weather. Hopefully there will be more food options nearby
- Christian (9/5): A wonderful stay in a taditonal Japanese Inn with hot spring baths! - Such a charming Ryokan, with friendly attentive staff. The Onsen were wonderful, especially the outdoors Onsen. We also visited the nearby Tanigawa ridge fro hiking, which I can recommend.
- Franz (9/5): Superb -
- Allyson (10/5): Exceptional - Great hospitality and food
- Sharon (9/5): Nice hot bath with least crowd during my stay - Quiet for good rest and unload our stress None
- Adrian (7/5): Good -
- Paulius (10/5): Excellent ryokan stay - Location. - I was going rafting& canyoning in the morning so it was perfectly placed
Staff were very friendly
You can book private onsen for free. I came in late but was able to get a spot. There is a vending machine for a beer after onsen. Perfect! Maybe sound insulation could be a bit better but barely noticeable.
- Rebecca (10/5): We enjoyed a beautiful trip in a misty valley and gorgeous ryokan. After rafting at Canyons, we relaxed in the outdoor h - The staff were very accommodating and polite! We had great access to onsen (indoor and outdoor), free apple ice sweets afterwards, delicious dinner and breakfast, and self-serve tea & coffee. nothing!!
- Stamena (10/5): Exceptional - Such helpful, attentive and customer devoted staff. After my hike l was starving and they asked me if l want to have dinner earlier with extra rice, just as an example of many. Outdoor onsen free of PRIVATE use for 40 min a day!
- Theresa_spengler (10/5): Friendly staff, hot spring, perfect for a time-out - We spent two nights at the Nakaya Ryokan and really enjoyed our time there. The hosts were super friendly. Even though they couldn't speak english, they had a very helpful translation device and tried their very best!
It is a nice and calm Ryokan near Yubiso Station where you can have a very relaxing stay. The rooms were comfortable and having a bath in the outdoor hot spring after hiking on a rainy day is the best!
(You can get hiking maps at the Ryokan)
Me and my husband have our left arm tattooed, so we thought we had to reserve the private baths for bathing, which wouldn't have been a problem for us. But after showing them to the owner, we were allowed to use the public bathrooms which was very kind of them!
Would highly recommend if you're looking for a peaceful place.
The food was also very good!
For every night you stay there, you can reserve one Outdoor onsen (they have a wooden and a stone onsen) for free!
- Kitty (10/5): very pleasant, beautiful place good service - the onsen, the room nothing
- Chin (10/5): Exceptional - The possibility to reserve the outdoor onsen, the interior decorations and illuminations and the rooms are big
- Phunthira (10/5): Exceptional - - very helpful staffs. some dont speak english but with their great service-minded attitude and their translator device, the communication is not a problem at all.
- full course dinner is served in the room. while breakfast is buffet. all tastes good.
- guests are able to book a 40-minute private onsen (open-air) on upper floor
- all day complimentary coffee, many types of tea and popsicle - no key for the room. you cant lock the door when you're out for bathing or breakfast.
- the layout of the ryokan is quite inconvenient. private onsen is on 2nd floor, left wing. but the bathroom is only on 1st floor, right wing.
- Hilary (10/5): Exceptional - Onsen + meals + room all in one?! Incredibly relaxing and excellent value! No restaurants nearby, but breakfast and dinner are included in your stay and absolutely delicious! So just plan for lunch via bus or a bit of a walk.
- Reagan (9/5): One of the greatest ryokans in Gunma - Everything in the ryokan was great.
Excellent place, staffs, onsen(hot spring), meals and more.
even the guests were really kind and had good manners. Trains bound for tokyo or echigo yuzawa don't run very often.
There are not many spots to sightsee around the ryokan so make sure not to miss your train.
Staffs there were super kind but apparently can't speak english very well so I'd rather bring one who can speak japanese fluently.
- Verified traveler (8/5):
- Verified traveler (10/5): A typical japanese hotel - Really good place to stay and the staff were really friendly and nice. They even come to clean and manage things every day.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - 一人旅で泊まれるところが見つからず、悪いイメージで到着、駐車場に車を止め旅館の外観を見てやはり外れたかと思ったのですが部屋が広く小綺麗にしてありぐっすり寝ることができました。
- Verified traveler (6/5): - 食事なしでの素泊まりでしたが、近くにろくな食事処がなく不満。
- Todd (8/5): - Nice ryokan. Good onsen.
