Guest Reviews
- Julie (8/5): - Nice outdoor area with pool and sea front access, nice and caring staff, very good cook. The room could have been a bit cleaner, the bed could be more comfortable.
- Thijs (7/5): -
- Davidson (5/5): Could be better. - Most staff plreasant. Rasheed and Mosse very helpful. Good security. Good trips arranged by the mentioned staff.. Swimming with dolphins was a special event. Beach very close. Pool clean. A few better restaurants and hotels nearby. We liked the concept that profits from resort funded a nearby school. Not 4 star. Rooms .need a make over. Not enough areas for storing clothes. Plumbing poor. flow of shower water poor and WC cistern took ages to fill. Shower area mouldy. Breakfast very poor and mostly the same every day. Fresh fruit and eggs. Ants in the sugar receptacle. One bottle of water free on arrival and then you had to purchase drinking water daily. No tea or coffee facilities in room. No fridge in room. Very basic furniture. No entertainment nearby. No tv in room. Beach reef area full of sea urchins.
- Magy (10/5): A paradise in Zanzibar - Such a beautiful hotel with unbelievably helpful staff. Even though we booked this place last minute, the staff managed to get us into a beautiful room until morning. The beach is so beautiful and clean. Thank you for everything. I'm truly coming back. Nothing... everything was perfect 🙌🏽
- Zsolt Roland (10/5): - Very nice staff. Breakfast was good, freshly made eggs daily. Access to the beach is great. It was low season when we were there and felt like we had a private pool! Great experience. Overall pretty clean, but had to ask for clean towels multiple times. Shower didn't drain well.
- Muradzikwa (8/5): - Rooms Surroundings
- Ouafid (8/5): - Early check-in sans supplément.
- Teresa (4/5): Disappointing - Warm welcome with nice detail in the room for our honeymoon We did not felt comfortable and we left to another place the same day we checked in. The room waz very dark, the bed uncomfortable. The room was not properly clean (towels were dirty, there was a lot of dust in the air and furniture), there was an issue with the water in the bathroom sink. In the balcony there was a big rose bush with very big sharp spikes and ny boyfriend cut his arm there, we informed the manager and advised to cut it because it was dangerous but he minimized the seriousness of the situation and even laugh saying "you'r strong man"... also the place is a 4 star hotel and it really does not look like it. Maybe in the pictures yes but in reality.... We ended up leaving for another place. It is true we did not inform before leaving so we really don't know if they could improve something, change us to other room etc...so we did not give the chance, but we were spending only 2 days there and we did not want to waste time, we decided to moce to other place. Also because we saw a recent review from other guest about the breakfast, he posted some pictures and it looked awful!
- Rossella (10/5): - Tamani Villas offers tranquility and peace as the defining features of this enchanting place. Being in Africa makes the experience all the more fascinating and adventurous. The property is immaculately clean and exceptionally well maintained.
The staff are outstanding above all the wonderful Aisha, who was always attentive and ready to assist with every need. Each day they welcomed us with genuine warmth and care.
Breakfast was truly special prepared with love and wonderfully abundant. The food overall left us speechless for its quality and flavor.
This place will forever remain among the most treasured memories of this unforgettable holiday. Thank you sincerely to all of you it was an experience we will never forget.
- Laurie (10/5): We felt lucky to find this place. We had initially booked 2 night but extended and stayed 5. We didnt want to leave! We - The property was beautiful, in a calm and serene location. Direct access to the beach. It was just idyllic. Lovely breakfast, friendly staff and a wonderful manager. N/A
- Delphine (10/5): Amazing and much recommended - Location, authenticity, the foundation you help by sleeping there, great pool and super tasty breakfast -
- Riccardo (10/5): - Ich habe mich hier sehr wohl gefühlt.

- José Lucas (2/5): Better options around, look a bit further - I think the cleaning and general staff were kind and friendly. MAYBE for just one night it’s okay, but there is better options around, look a bit further. Unfortunately, everything at this place feels kind of “informal.” I rented a car from them for 2 days (they delivered it an hour and a half late) and the car they gave me was in NO SAFE CONDITION. Broken door, broken mirror, unstable suspension, smell of gasoline, and completely dirty. I used the car for 4 hours and couldn’t take it anymore, so I decided to return it. But of course, the manager Rashid, in a rude manner, forced me to pay for a full day/one whole night. They don’t rent from a proper company—it’s from one of Rashid’s friends—and he didn’t take the car back nicely at all.
Breakfast was also delayed by an hour and a half, and they already start serving it late on purpose, so you end up missing the schedules of other tours unless you book directly with them. If you take a tour with them, suddenly you’re allowed to have breakfast at “different” times.
And don’t expect goodwill from Rashid if he doesn’t like you: even after I agreed to pay following a discussion (I’m not in my country after all, otherwise the story would have been very different), he was rude and arrogant for the rest of the stay
I’m sure he will come up with some absurd excuse about why the car was in that condition in response to this comment, and that’s fine! But fellow travelers, trust me: go somewhere else. Prices are similar and you won’t have to deal with dishonest people like this Rashid.
If he had just accepted the car back a few hours later, my experience would have been much better. But at Tamani Villas, management is only interested in your money, not in what they can actually provide for your stay.
- Abdülkerim (9/5): Tolles Hotel mit tollen Strand mut Liegen -
- Alejandro (7/5): - "Included breakfast" and they charge for a coffee during breakfast. First time in my life!
- Fiona (9/5): - We were met by members of staff on arrival who quickly got us checked in. The room was lovely and the pool perfect. The location was amazing. The owners were wonderful and hospitalable and knowing you stay funds the local school if a bonus. Our favourite place we’ve stayed in Zanzibar.
Just darrera l’hotel hi ha un restaurant on vam sopar tots els dies amb un menjar exquisits i amb preus locals. Es diu Marlin Restaurant. Si us agrada la tranquil•litat no dubteu en allotjar-vis a Tamani Villas.
- eda (10/5): Great stay, beautiful and quiet hotel. - We liked the room, the view, the sea side was very wide during the low tide were our daughter could play and we could take good pictures.
- Göktug (10/5): - Tamani Villas was great. The room I booked was clean and had everything I needed. The employees were extremely nice and helped me to move around on the island and organized great tours for me. Special thanks go to Zayna, Rashid and Muhammad. The food prepared freshly by the Tamani Villas' chef was very tasteful and priced fairly. The wonderful beach can be reached within one minute. There you have comfortable sunbeds and a security employee who keeps beachboys/sellers away from disturbing guests. I also recommend everybody to visit the Tamani Foundation which is only three minutes from Tamani Villas.
- Olaf (9/5): -
- Marko (10/5): Exceptional - Perfect vacation accommodation, designed in the style of Zanzibar, located right on the coast with a beautiful beach. The room is spacious, with the option of using air conditioning and fans, and has a lovely terrace. There's a beautifully landscaped yard with a pool (which is realistically unnecessary when you have the sea) and a large terrace on the adjacent building where you can stay and dine. Food si great and the prices are acceptable. Communication with the owner was excellent; they offered and organized some local activities, car rental, and a visit to a nearby school. A special commendation goes to the staff who were more than excellent. The beds are not the most comfortable, and the shower could be better, but it's not a big problem.
- pili (8/5): - Ubicacion
- Kishma (10/5): Fantastic stay at Tamani - Absolutely adored Tamani Villas. The property itself was lovely, clean and spacious. We really enjoyed the selection that they put on for breakfast each morning (really wish I'd got a picture) and we enjoyed two beach front dinners which were nothing less than feasts.
The staff were all extremely helpful, Mohamed spent a long time making recommendations and arrangements for our trip to ensure that we had the best visit, he even organised the transfer from the airport to the first hotel we stayed at before arriving at the villa.
The security outside the property was unobtrusive but reassuring.
It wasn't peak season when we were there so it was a little difficult to find many places to eat nearby but we did find a few and we even walked into the town to buy a few things on our last night.
During our stay we were very well looked after by Rashid and the rest of the team who really made our trip. Rashid even arranged for a local dive instructor to visit the villa and arrange a scuba dive nearby, just fantastic. There was no central area to get rid of anything, no bins or washing up area we could access to throw away any food remnants or tidy up any mess.
There was also the occasional pile of termite dust on the floor or table.
- Karlis (10/5): Exceptional -
- Denniz (10/5): Nice villa - We went there with some friends and it was really good.
The staff was very nice and they tried everything to make us feel comfortable.
For the last night they made us a BBQ at the beach. It has been delicious with fresh seafood.
- Alessia (9/5): Great place to stay in Matemwe - Lovely place by the beach with a welcoming host. Totally recommended!
- Ramona (10/5): Amazing place! - We liked everything here, especially the wonderful vegetation around, the path to the beach, the serene athmosfere. They also serve delicious food, we ate here every day at lunch. The room and the common areas are very clean. Staff is very nice, friendly and helpful. Also, the beach in Matemwe is so nice! I would definitively come here again. Huge thanks to the all team at Tamani.
- Nancy (10/5): Exceptional - I love everything in the villa. The vibe was great. The staff are amazing and super friendly and always helpful 😀
Matemwe is my favourite spot on the island. It's tranquil but accessible to some good restaurants 😋 NA
- James (9/5): Superb - Awesome location for a lovely and very spoiling personal villa. Staff were super approachable and helpful. Large rooms, wonderful pool and metres from gorgeous beach. Link to school foundation is great Very little to complain about but needs a bit of maintenance re one shower not working and 1 ac out.
- Claudie (10/5): Perfect - Very friendly staff, direct access to beach. Clean and breakfast perfect.
We really enjoy the visit of school Nothing !
- Deborah (8/5): For those who enjoy a small and more personal place to stay, it’s perfect. The beach too, is more peaceful than further - It’s small and quiet just back from the beach and close to the village. Set in lush gardens, everything is well maintained and rooms spacious and well appointed. The staff are lovely, food exceptional and far better value than nearby restaurants. Pool is gorgeous for low tide swims. Fabulous ‘proper’ coffee! This is surprisingly difficult to find in Tanzania. I visited the school and it’s good to see the partnership between tourism and community. Ground floor rooms rather dark. Would be cooler though when temperatures are high.
- Pavlína (9/5): We recommend this hotel:) - It was very relax place, all stuff here friendly, good swimming pool and hotel Is on the beach. We recommend this accomodation everyone, who want to enjoy relaxing vacation. Breakfast was the same every day.
- Lisa (8/5): Don’t hesitate and just book it! - You enter an oasis of peace and relaxation. The rooms are large (with a Queen size bed), close to a warm pool. There is a small road that leads to the white sandy beach (30 second walk). It’s a beautiful hotel with friendly staff. Sometimes they organized business meetings/ business calls near the pool. It took away the relaxation.
- Sarah (10/5): Exceptional - We had an amazing time in Tamani Hotel! The hotel looks like paradise and is only a few steps away from the beach. The food was also very yummie. The hotel organized very nice trips for us: We were for example able to swim with dolphins ❤️❤️
- Ivana (10/5): A Family-Friendly Haven Near the Beach! - We had a really nice time at Mohammed’s hotel. The beach was super close, the staff was really friendly, and the food was yummy. There was a cool upper place where you could do yoga or work and see the sea. We had so much fun! We could relax and enjoy the sunshine. This place is great for families. The only things to be aware of is asking for food at least 2 hours ahead, and not to be always relying on internet as in the whole Zanzibar the connection is not stable. However, I don’t think it works better anywhere in Zanzibar, so I definitely recommend to book your stay here :)
- Ninna Bo (8/5): Great place - Friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast as expected, nothing fancy but nice. Great rooms with Daily moskito hindering. Nice size. Great and nice, but rather small pool.
In the end the hotel lived up to our expectations.
- Kasper (9/5): Superb - Modest resort at an excellent location, good value for money. With a lovely family friendly pool and a cool climate because of the many plants.
- Tamas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Murat (8/5): Nice, clean hotel very close to beach. Everyone was super friendly -
- Kirk (8/5): Very good -
- Oren (10/5): - Three staff is very accommodating, and kind. There's a nice feeling they all know you and are trying to really help. We were there 4 days and it felt like we are a little community. The rooms are comfortable, clean, hot water and good internet connection. The breakfasts are very nice. I recommend to organize all your tours through the hotel, it's easy and very reasonable prices, and you know it's all taken care of. So a lot less stressful. I'll start here again if I came again too Zanzibar. The beach which is20m from the hotel, is powedry and super relaxing, pretty empty and warm water, but need to swim in high tide.
- Dominika (10/5): Exceptional - Perfect place for
- Eva (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful relaxed place with very friendly staff directly at the beach! Loved it
- Laura (9/5): Superb - Beautiful room, good working ac, great moscito net, breakfast was delicious, only a tiny walk through the property to get to the beach, private beach chairs. The hotel manager seemed to be a little judgy as we were two girls sharing a bed but since she never said anything I’m only suspecting that she didn’t like that.
- Jacques (10/5): I recommend and will definitely come back - This place is amazing, you will be stunned by the beauty of the hotel and the beach. The food is great for a fair price, the staff is professional and friendly The wifi connexion was could have been better
- Melani (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful villa, room is equipped with everything we need. Breakfast is good, staffs are friendly. The best thing is probably the work they are doing with building the school to provide free education for kids in the village.
- Hussein (8/5): Very good -
- Stephen (9/5): It's hard to imagine a more perfect property and location for a relaxing stay at Matemwe beach - Absolutely exceptional property and location, with wonderful friendly staff and everything perfectly maintained. The only (very minor) comment I would have is that the food could have been a bit more imaginative...but it's still excellent value for money.
- Stephane (10/5): Best ever place to rest contributing on top to a great project! - The location and the house is great. Staff is always available to support. The overall project related to the development of the close by school is a wonderful initiative. Congratulations!!!
- Mathilde (1/5): Awful - Nothing The worst experience we ever had and we aren't beginners in renting accomodations.
To sum up the different problems :
- the room wasn't prepared properly, we asked for a double bed and saw 2 single separate beds, when we asked Bachir (the so called manager) he said it was too late and offered to bring closer the beds and put half of a bed sheet that didn't look clean to make up for the mistake. He then offered to see what could be done the next day.
- the bathroom smelled horrible and was clearly under the standards of a b&b, we took a shower and had no hot water, when we woke up in the night there were lots of flies outside the window that looked like a metallic net without any isolation
- the dogs were barking non stop in the neighbor's property
I went back to tell Bachir but he offered to wait until the next day.
The next day we saw him and complained about these problems, he told we had to switch on the hot water and wait for 15-20 minutes until it's ready, we would've loved to be informed before.
We told him we were planning on leaving for it was impossible to stay in such conditions.
When we booked we were aware there was no possible cancel the booking as we had already paid, but in such circumstances we hoped the host would be understanding so we asked for a partial refund since we just stayed one night but they refused.
We hoped that such people who work for a fondation would have more empathy but we didn't receive any payback even though they could put the room on rent since we did the check-out.
So we had to book somewhere else which created crazy expenses but we had no other choice as we didn't want to spoil the rest of our trip. We definitely don't recommend this place and still wait for a payback as the description doesn't match the reality we unfortunately had to experience.
- Ibrahim (8/5): Very good -
- Fabio (8/5): Very good -
- Eddy (10/5): My beautiful last nights in Zanzibar - Nous avons passé nos dernières nuits à Zanzibar à Tamani.
- Claus (10/5): Perfect tropical relaxation - Great Retreat with coral white sand beach, fantastic atmosphere and great hospitality. Perfect for tropical relaxation. Highly recommended. The profit goes all to a foundation which support the school next door.
- Krzysztof (10/5): - Very nice stay.
Memorable Tamani Foundation-all profits are transfered. You are doing good!
- Luciana (10/5): Eccellente! - This hotel is simply wonderful ... the structure is new and extremely clean, all the staff are friendly and always available. The kitchen is excellent, the menu is good but if you have special requests the chef is always at your disposal. We did the excursions to Memba, Stone Town, Prison Island directly with them ... also snorkeling and swimming with dolphins. An incredible experience! The idea of contributing to the education of children with our stay is fantastic ... they really need it. You don't expect a resort with evening entertainment... this is not the place. It is an extremely quiet hotel in which to relax and enjoy the island. The atmosphere is incredible! The tide is spectacular in this part of the island. I thought it would be an obstacle to enjoy the sea but I was wrong….it was exciting to walk in the morning for miles on that stretch of fine white sand. The beach in front of the hotel is wonderful ... of course, there are beach boys like everywhere on the island but they are never pushy. In any case, just say no with kindness and they won't bother you anymore. A special thanks to Sveva who manages the hotel, always very sweet and willing to satisfy every request. She does all with love. Thanks also to the staff, they are fantastic people who transmit so much serenity to you. The only regret I have is not having taken a picture with all of them ... unfortunately we left at 3 am. Incredible experience, I would never have left ...
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Quiet and relaxing location. Very nice pool. Friendly staff. Very short walk to enjoy the deck chairs on the beach.
