Guest Reviews
- Jeff (10/5): Jeff from Australia, review of Merton House - Friendly staff
Great breakfast
Great location
Clean
Excellent value for money TV ok but limited channels
- Frank (9/5): - Das beste englische Frühstück und ein sehr netter Gastgeber.
- Kiryl (10/5): -
- Vicky (10/5): -
- Fairweather (10/5): This stay had everything we needed. Great value, a warm friendly host (Mark). The room was perfect, location ideal for o - Everything! Absolutely nothing, it was perfect.
- Denis Michael (10/5): A recommended experience. - Superb breakfast.
Breakfast room was light with a garden view. The main road made egress difficult.
- Paul (9/5): Good B&B, friendly, warm, & comfortable. - It was December and i liked that I could turn the radiator up to warm the room and it warned quickly.
5 minute walk to a handful of takeaways and 20-25 mins from town restuarants.
Was perfectly located for my particular needs. With off road parking, 3 cars when I was there but it would fit a couple more I would think. Nothing
- Fauquet (8/5): La chambre et la salle de bain sont très propres et bien équipées. Mark a le sens de l'accueil. - Le petit-déjeûner était copieux.
L'emplacement devant la maison est très pratique pour garer la voiture.
- Brenda (9/5): Very pleasant - Food very good and Mark the host very hospitable, nothing was too much trouble. Gave good advice on places to visit and where to eat.
- Linda (9/5): - Mark was so welcoming and the room.. was lovely clean and had everything I needed ...
Breakfast was lovely, too
- Janet (10/5): I had an excellent stay, above and beyond expectations. - The host, Mark, explained everything perfectly, over and above what I expected. The English breakfast included was delicious. Merton House was easy to get to and offered private parking. I didn’t notice anything I didn’t like.
- Dumisani (10/5): - On-site free parking, easy access to the premises, owners were very cordial and the atmosphere relaxed and quiet .o
- Rachel (10/5): fantastic service - Amazing service throughout my stay from being picked up at the station to the wonderful, home-cooked breakfast. all great.
- Colin (10/5): Great host , great breakfast. - Full english was first class, sets you up for the day.
Mark is a terrific host.
- Simon & Christine (10/5): A Rugby World Cup Weekend - It is plain to see that the owner, Mark, has spent many years in the hospitality business and he couldn't be more welcoming and accommodating if he tried.
We took advantage of an upgrade to a Superior room via the Booking.com Genius scheme which brings the benefit of a bath along with the usual shower and a larger room giving space to accommodate an additional sofa and coffee table. Our only 'gripe', and it is a minor one, is that it's slightly out of town on a fairly busy road which meant a slightly longer walk if you wanted to park up the car and use the excellent public transport network in the area.
- Amanda (10/5): Great host, room & breakfast - Great Host Lots of extras & comfort in the room. Restaurants nearby & the breakfast was amazing!!!
- Davies (6/5): The stay fulfilled the necessary needs of my stay at that time. - The breakfast was really good. The location was the best I could find and afford on those dates.
You may want to check your ability to deign a survey questionnaire; it doesn't have the subtlety to recognise that individual aspects can contradict an overall experience - too many variables that a sledge hammer questionnaire cannot account for.
You should also perhaps consider removing the patronising comments. Here's a good example: - I didn't like the long walk to and from the front but that is not something that can be changed
- Holly (10/5): Lovely place to stay, will be returning! - Mark and his wife were lovely and very accommodating, Mark cooks all of his guests a lovely breakfast each morning at the time of their choosing and ensures his guests have all they need.
The rooms were very clean and comfortable, the location was perfect, very close to the station and main town and beach. There was also a good selection of teas and coffees in the rooms as well.
I had a lovely stay and will definitely stay here again. 0 complaints
- Adeshola (9/5): -
- Zhi (10/5): - This was the most wonderful stay in this lovely hotel! Mark and his lovely wife were amazing, kind and welcoming, I felt like a special guest! Excellent fresh breakfast Mark made each morning especially for me. A beautiful garden with flowers opens up from the dining room! Comfortable bed, comfortable room and a wonderful sleep with birds singing, what else do you need for a great holiday?! Walking distance to the center takes 20 min. There is a great supermarket nearby and also a great fish and chips place! I highly recommend this wonderful place to everyone! They are the best!!! 🙏👌👍💯🥰
I recommend visiting wonderful places nearby -
Highdown Gardens (free) and Shoreham Beach (great place for swimming) 👍
- arihoney (10/5): Will go back - The room was spotless clean, you also get complementary tea, coffee, water and biscuites. Mark made me feel welcomed - I could chose when to have breakfast I was offered several options too. He has also been super kind to give me a lift to the waterfront after check out. The house is just 15mins walk from the station.
I will surely go back.
- Sue (10/5): -
- Frederick (10/5): Absolutely brilliant - We arrived and were met by the host ( mark ) who was extremely friendly,
Showed us to our room which was immaculate and spacious and took our order for breakfast.
The breakfast was cooked to order and on time and was delicious,
The bed was very comfortable. We wish we had stayed longer. There was absolutely nothing to complain about
- Quinn (9/5): -
- Neil (8/5): My one night stay - The room was more than adequate if dated in style. However, this did not affect me. I wanted a clean bed and shower/toilet and these were above standard. The timed cooked breakfast was just what I needed. Very good.
- Brian (8/5): Very good stay, host Mark was very helpful, room was clean and comfortable - Good location for our purpose Nothing
- Stephen (10/5): - Our host was amazing! He served a wonderful classic English breakfast and pivoted to our breakfast whims each morning. He suggested places to eat and things to see while we were there and was interested and engaged in our experiences in Worthing. A wonderful travel experience that felt like home!
- Gareth (10/5): Perfect overnight stop off! - The house was easy to find. We arrived at 8.30 pm and had a friendly greeting by Mark who showed us our rooms and took our breakfast order. He was very helpful, particularly given that we needed an early breakfast. The rooms were immaculately clean. There was a hairdryer, TV and there was even a fan due to the recent hot weather. There were tea/coffee making facilities with biscuits and what made it even more perfect was that there were actually chocolates as well. The bathroom was supplied with everything you needed with a good shower. Breakfast was on time, and perfectly cooked, together with a choice of ceriels and plenty of toast with tea/coffee and juice. I don't give praise unless I'm really happy, but I couldn't fault our stay with Mark at Merton House. We only stayed one night as we were travelling for my son's graduation in Brighton, but I would definitely recommend it for anyone looking for a place to stay and I would certainly go back again if we were in the area. For once I could actually not suggest anything I didn't like!
- Lee (10/5): Exceptional -
- Martin (10/5): It met all of our expectations and we will be going back next year - Breakfast was superb. Mark was very attentive, room was lovely Nothing
- Patrick (10/5): Great stay - Great breakfast Can't think of anything
- Lord (10/5): Worthing B&B - The bed was very comfy, good size room and breakfast was great. Host very helpful and friendly Bathroom could be bigger but was fine for 2 nights.
- Claudette (8/5): Great value - Convenient location for work, breakfast was lovely. Had a pleasant stay.
- Rebecca (9/5): Superb - Very comfortable and spacious room with everything supplied (fluffy towels and a range of toiletries). Host very welcoming and recommended places to eat nearby. Excellent breakfast. Located a bit out of the town centre. We'd been walking all day and were very tired, but caught a bus easily from near the pier. Otherwise it's a c.25 minute walk from the pier.
- Jonathan (9/5): Good location for what we needed. Landlord was very helpful. Vegan catered for happily :) - Good food and friendly landlord. Nothing
- Wendy (10/5): - Warm friendly welcome by Mark, fabulous clean room with a comfy bed and all the little touches you would hope to find, lots of attention to detail, helpful guest information book, great breakfast, would definitely stay again!
- Jeff (10/5): Great Value for Money - Cooked breakfast excellent.
Location excellent Nothing. All good
- Jose (9/5): Superb -
- Danuta (10/5): Exceptional - Was really nice. Thank you
- James (10/5): Great , comfortable bed and breakfast!! - The location was very handy. The room was spacious very comfortable and very clean. The breakfast was delicious and Mark was a great host and nothing was to much trouble and a great guy to chat with. Overall we had a fantastic stay. Nothing really.
- Brendan (9/5): Superb -
- Pocknell (9/5): Superb -
- Doreen (10/5): An extremely successful visit. - Stay was very good. Visit was primarily to attend meetings early Sunday morning relating to voluntary work I undertake and needed to leave 30 minutes after breakfast start time; Mark immediately offered to serve it earlier so I didn't have to rush. Also, thoughtful little extras were provided not experienced at other places. Nothing.
- Filipa (8/5): Stay over for work - Breakfast was amazing. mark owner was very friendly and very helpful. Room size was very decent and en suite room with all amenities. 10min walk to train station and Morrisons. Roads around all free parking Nothing in particular
- Matthew (7/5): Good -
- Appleby (9/5): Superb - Room was clean and comfortable, big enough for two people, lovely small en suite with a walk in shower. Great base for our weekend in Worthing. Nothing
- Anne (8/5): Mark is a very friendly host. Loved the extra touches. - Excellent value for money Nothing
- Andrew (10/5): A very pleasant long weekend. I would highly recommend it, and hope to return - Excellent Host: Genial, warm, attentive, but not intrusive. Food: The cooked breakfast was superb, with plenty of options made available for those with smaller appetites. The eating area is amply sized, and at the rear, a pleasant, quiet location which catches the morning sun just right for a relaxing start to the day. Room/Facilities: Far better than expected, with plenty of space. both clean and well-appointed. Overall: Very good to Faultless. It is situated next to a very long, very busy road (basically a dual-carriageway) it's not perhaps the quietest, or salubrious of locations (but the windows do provide very good sound-proofing). Off-road parking at the property itself is available but very limited, and the property itself seems like it may provide some challenges to those with mobility issues due to it's age/layout, since the majority of rooms are up-stairs. However, fore-warned is fore-armed, and for us, these issues didn't impact on our stay.
- Chris (8/5): Great room, lovely breakfast, good stay - We had the Superior/Deluxe King room which was massive - large comfortable bed, large space, and leather settee, along with a large bathroom with corner bath (can't lie down in it though) and separate shower.
At the back of the house so no traffic noise.
Breakfast was lovely - set us up well for a day's walking.
Lovely pictures and interesting ornaments reflecting Mask's South African background throughout the house.
Close to bus-stops which got us to Washington to walk on South Downs Way (and to/back from Worthing). It didn't affect us as there were few bookings when we were there and we were able to park in front of the house, but there is limited on-site parking. Apparently there is easy on-street parking in roads behind the house.
- Mel (10/5): Exceptional - This is such a lovely B&B Mark was a lovely host and cooked us a really nice breakfast we would definatly stay here again Nothing not to like
- Nur (10/5): Exceptional - My husband and I were made very welcome by the hosts, Mark and Hélene. The room was clean, spacious and light. The bed was comfortable. The breakfast room overlooked a lovely little garden. We enjoyed our stay at Merton House and will definitely consider visiting again when next in the area.

Everywhere was spotlessly clean. My host, Mark, was very accommodating providing a delicious Full English Breakfast at the early hour of 7.00am. Would have no problem in recommending to my friends. Being on a main road the traffic might cause a problem for light sleepers.
