- Frances (9/5): All round excellent stay would definitely visit again! - Lovely property, brilliant friendly and welcoming staff, spacious room, big comfy bed with lovely quality bed linen, huge roll top bath, delicious food . While the bed was really comfy and the bed linen really good quality it was far too hot for the duvet - sheet and blanket option would have been much appreciated for a good nights sleep in this heat wave.

- Debby (8/5): I’d definitely stay again. - Warm, clean and very presentable. A comfy bed and a very good Sunday dinner. Staff were friendly. My dog was also made welcome. Just rotten luck that the kitchen had a gas leak in the morning so there were no hot breakfast items as the kitchen was out of use.

Dinner on one night only also excellent. The room was well furnished and clean with daily changes of towels etc. Flat roof with vents and skylights was our view from the room.

Room was a little small. Only problem was the white blind let the light in during the night. There was a street lamp that shone straight through the window , then at dawn the sun shone straight in ! This did affect my sleep.

Extremely comfortable bed with high quality bedding and room well thought out with small cafetière with fresh coffee. Visiting a friend in Harrogate Hospital so an easy drive in and out of Harrogate. Would highly recommend

- Clo (8/5): Perfect accommodation for an overnight stay - There was an event on so the carpark was busy and it was rather noisy. We booked as we were going to the Harrogate Flower Show and didn’t want to drive back to Derbyshire until the next day. We enjoyed the stay and will be booking with you again. The shower wasn’t great but it did the job. We ended up needing to put towels on the floor.

Great location. Deceiving to look at as when you park you can see just how huge the place is . Plenty of seating areas inside and out . I didn’t like the fact that I couldn’t stay longer .
- Tarul (6/5): Lovely location ,excellent and helpful staff ,nice Inn however bedroom tired and dusty - Reception staff were excellent ,polite and very informative,the flask of fresh milk for the room was a nice touch and the room was well stocked with filter coffee ,tea and sugar ,bed was really comfortable with nice clean linen and towels We stayed in the York suite. No shower door ,even with towels laid on the floor the bathroom got soaked and became slippery, cleaner said they had complained about it however nothing had been done. Mould and limescale in the kettle ( replaced by staff immediately) mould around the window frame ,dusty headboard studs ,dirty hairbrush left on shelf by a previous customer , breakfast was overpriced

- Andrew (10/5): Exceeded expectations - Booked The castle inn last minute to attend an event in nearby wetherby. From arrival to checkout our experience far exceeded our expectations. Beautiful pub in a small village, close to Harrogate and wetherby. The standard of the room was excellent, luxury furnishings, fresh ground coffee, complimentary waters and very comfortable bed and pillows with very welcome blackout blinds all made for a great night's sleep. Calm beer garden, friendly staff. Restaurant and food looked lovely but we didn't eat there. Would definitely recommend, great value. Small thing but no shower door so make sure bathroom floor clear before you shower

The lady on duty actually took me up to my room, not the ‘room above a pub’ vibe. This really is a proper, friendly Inn. Great food, too. Extensive main menu and some really interesting bar snacks, too, if you don’t fancy a full meal. Charcuterie plate, Gordal olives etc. But the absolute cherry on the top is their Timothy Taylor Landlord. My favourite beer in the whole world, and this was the best served. So possibly the pint of my life! 😀 But it just shows the care they take over everything. Stayed twice now, I’ll definitely be back. Nothing to note

- Linzi (6/5): Lovely hotel in a great setting. Unpleasant Sunday morning staff - The room was nice, very comfortable bed. The shower wasn’t great - nothing to stop the water from going everywhere. The staff were great except unfortunately the man working the Sunday morning when we left. He was pretty grumpy straight away when we went down for breakfast. Then at checkout he went on to try to charge us again, after we’d already paid for the room at the time of booking. After eventually realising his mistake, he then went and overcharged us for breakfast. The coffee machine was broken the morning of our stay so my husband had a filter coffee instead and I had an orange juice. The filter coffee wasn’t on the menu and it seems we were charged £7.20 for it which is insane! We said we think he added up our breakfast wrong and tried to sort it out but he was very dismissive. Unfortunately due to this member of staff we wouldn’t be returning or recommending this hotel. I understand that mistakes happen, and we could have laughed it off it it wasn’t for his attitude. He really needs some more training in customer service before being left on his own to deal with customers on a Sunday morning

It had a good mirror in the bathroom but leaning over the sink to do make up not too easy and the mirror in the room was on the cupboard unit so no area for ladies to do makeup and hair .

Few marks around the room, bed soft but ok Prices in the restaurant, food and drink are too high, this reflects that no locals drink in what really is a pub. £34 for a bottle of average sauvignon Blanc and £8 for a Bailey's definitely cheeky. Breakfast (not included) While tasty was expensive and mean. I get the feeling the management are trying to make it higher end but it's obvious it's just better than average.

Staff were lovely, exceeded expectations especially for the price compared to others in the area. We attended a wedding at wharfedale grange and was only a 10 min car journey away. Perfect. We didn't try dinner, abit pricey though I am sure it would be good. If there was an option for cheaper meals we'd have stayed and eaten here.

The room was clean but not immaculate the rooms were priced accordingly but our room the Windsor was too a satisfactory standard and comfortable and I loved the decor but it is is need of some TLC and a refresh. I would also say the stairs and hall way to the room is also in need of bit of a deeper clean a bit tired and also needs a refresh but overall I would stay here again as the value for money and I also like the fact they allow dogs as this is also a reason I would stay here again staff were lovely and very helpful can't fault that at all . But I wouldn't eat here sorry hate to have to say it as I don't like giving bad reviews but the food dose need looking at unfortunately our evening meal was edible but but not fantastic because of this we did actually cancel our breakfast. We did politely mention that my husband starter wasn't as expected but we didn't get any anyone come to speak to us about it and my main course wasn't brilliant absolutely drowned in chill sauce to the level I couldn't eat it all when asked if everything was ok I voiced the opinion that it was just OK we still got no one to to come and speak to us so because of this we didn't order dessert or coffee, which is ashame as the restaurant decor is lovely and we were really looking forward to our experience at the restaurant but just bit meh!

- Charlie (8/5): lovely place, good value for money - great location, pub was nice and easy to park it can be quite loud with people walking past and doors slamming so bring ear plugs if you are a light sleeper. also facing a road so that noise is loud too. bed was comfy but the pillows are really hard- i ended up not using them at all. something much softer would be ideal

What a shame about the fake four-poster bed - it would have been so much better (and increased the sense of space in a relatively small bedroom) to leave out the fake pillars and let the genuine wooden beams speak for themselves.

Drinks service in restaurant abit slow when bar was busy. Shower in bedroom would be better with a door. Bathroom floor gets very wet!

- Vee (9/5): Really lovely place with friendly staff - The room was lovely. The beams and the whole attention to detail was really nice. The products in the room were great and the staff were really helpful. I couldn't remember if I'd booked breakfast but assumed I had as paid £164 which is way more than I'd normally pay for room only however thats what we had. The coffee in the room were little ground packets, a welcome break from Nescafe! The staff were great, so friendly and this makes all the difference. The beer garden was so chilled I just wish we were there for longer. The area is wonderful. I really feel like we had a break from the city. The fan in the room wasn't very powerful although we appreciated it being there and without it wouldn't have slept at all. We were are the top of the barn, the most amazing roof but it was so very hot.

- Marco (1/5): I think they changed ownership, never again. - Property is good second time I was there after a long day of work but… They try to charged me 80£ fine for cleaning even if nobody smoked inside and obvs I went with a dog and there worse legit 2 tiny mud stains ( winter season and rain outside ) then they didn’t even care to send me as a proof. The room wasn’t even ready when I came there with still a mop and a bucket inside. So I refuse to pay that. Today I just come back home from a long trip in Europe and they sended me a parking fine for my car when I was lodging at their hotel 🤣 that’s totally crazy

- alan (6/5): Reasonable hotel, great food, lively pub but need to spend money on their WiFi - Nice room and lively atmospheric pub. Restaurant has great food and breakfast. Friendly staff. WiFi - not accessible in the room or restaurant plus v poor phone signal. No milk in the room. Parking very busy. Walls quite thin so you can hear neighbours in otter rooms.

- Ahmad (5/5): One night was more than enough - Clean room, nice to have a pub and a restaurant in house We arrived and checked in at reception, which turned out to be a counter in the middle of the restaurant. We were then taken to our room on the ground floor, literally a few steps from the restaurant door, with an external door opening straight into the room. The room was freezing cold. The electric heater had been switched off, and even after turning it on, it was too cold to stay in. We decided to spend a couple of hours in the pub to give the room a chance to warm up. I ordered a cocktail for my partner and was told it would be brought to the table. Fifteen minutes later, nothing arrived, so I went to the bar to ask. The barman ignored me while serving others. Eventually I managed to get someone’s attention, only to be shown the cocktail sitting on a tray at the bar. It was a pornstar martini half the size of what you’d reasonably expect, and it came without the usual prosecco shot. When I asked about it, the barman had no idea that prosecco is normally served with it. I then stood at the bar for another ten minutes while he tried to find a bottle of prosecco to pour a small shot. Under normal circumstances, I would have made a fuss, but as we were visitors from far away, I chose to let it go. The pub itself was full of children screaming and running around, so it wasn’t a relaxing environment at all. We finished our drinks as quickly as possible and returned to the room, which by then was slightly warmer, but still far from comfortable. The room was advertised as having a TV and broadband access. Neither worked. The TV couldn’t connect to the WiFi, and when I tried using my own device, the WiFi simply didn’t work at all. The manager attempted to help but failed to resolve the issue. He was apologetic and promised to deduct money from our stay, which had already been paid for, but that was the last we heard from him. Was everything too bad? No, the room was clean and the bed was comfortable. Would I stay here again? No. Would I recommend it?

- James (8/5): Comfortable stay - Convenient stop off on route south and rooms are excellent and very quiet Unfortunately there was a major power outage in the village which meant we had to leave to find food - staff were excellent in sourcing alternative and although this was unavoidable and just a result of circumstances outwith anyone’s control
