- Amanda (8/5): It is a special, beautiful hotel with a wonderful chilled vibe perfect for relaxing - We loved it. It’s in a quiet spot with a beautiful view of the creek with its own little beach and natural inlet to swim in. There’s also a lovely hotel pool and lots of very tasteful areas with sun beds, hammocks and spaces to chill out in. There’s even 2 raised decks with even more stunning views! The hotel food was good with beautiful spots to sit and have drinks, breakfast, lunch and dinner. We particularly enjoyed the squid and the red snapper. The staff were so friendly and helpful-the whole hotel has a wonderful relaxed and chilled atmosphere. There’s a boat that can take you across the creek ( it takes 5 minutes) to the main side of Watamu. The bar/ restaurant/club right opposite the hotel is very cool and hip so if you want a bit of a different vibe you can just ask David or Sayid to motor boat you across. There are also some fabulous trips to do organised by the hotel. We went paddle boarding and kayaking into the mangroves and also snorkelling on the reef. They even have a spa facility and my husband and I had a fantastic massage to help us feel even more relaxed! Nothing

- Emile (9/5): A great place to find some peace and quiet in beautiful surroundings. - You come to the Mida Creek Hotel for a quiet en relaxed stay. The location just on the far side of the main beach at Watamu makes for very peaceful surroundings. Despite being on the other side of the creek, with the complementary boat shuttle you can be in Watamu within minutes. The place itself is beautifully placed just above a little beach in the mangroves. The Garden is very well kept and the accommodation certainly met our expectations. There was plenty of choice for dinner with great seating options. The staff went out of their way to make ourselves and our young children feel welcome! If you are taking a taxi to Malindi Airport, ask around if other guests are going the same way. Maybe you could share a ride.

- John (9/5): Charming, relaxed hotel with lovely staff - We had the fab upstairs Palm Deck room - with the glorious view pictured in the website. Super staff and good food - and the fun free trips across the Creek to the main Watamu strip. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would happily return/recommend. Modest beach and I think that some of the 'standard' rooms might be a little small/modest - but you don't go to Watamu to be indoors!

- לביא (10/5): - This must be the best place in Watamu!!!
At first we hesitated because of the location but it turn out to be the best part! Away from Watamu’s crowd mida creek is the best hidden gem with the best beach.
And the place is absolutely stunning! The restaurant is great with delicious food and the stuff were so kind and welcoming
And they can take you anytime to the othet side of watamu just by 5 mins boat
Thank you David and Gracious and all the staff for an unforgettable experience ♥️ Absolutely nothing
- Maria (8/5): - Bardzo spokojnie, ładny widok, kameralnie Brak klimatyzacji w pokoju

- Migle (7/5): Beautiful setting and great staff, but some important inconveniences - The property is beautifully maintained — exceptionally clean and tidy. The staff are constantly taking care of the grounds, raking the leaves, sweeping the sand, and keeping the common areas spotless. It really shows how much effort they put into keeping the place nice. The team was also genuinely kind and friendly, especially Gracious, the waitress, who stood out for her warmth and attentiveness. The boat service was very reliable too — the captain was always responsive, and we never had to wait long to get across the creek.
We also really appreciated the gym area — it was airy, outdoors, and felt like a fun, jungle-style setup with thoughtful equipment. The common areas were another highlight, with treehouses, hammocks, and plenty of cozy spots to relax and enjoy the surroundings. The water issue was the biggest problem. The touch-operated water system in the rooms simply didn’t work most of the time. We often had no running water to wash our hands or shower and had to message reception each time. The staff were always polite and quick to help, but it’s not relaxing to have to ask for water every time you need it. Before our early flight, we couldn’t even wash our hands or face — that was quite frustrating.
Another thing that didn’t make sense to me was the music at the restaurant/bar: the hotel has such a serene, nature-filled atmosphere, yet they played loud pop and TikTok hits that completely broke the calm. Some soft background music or even just the natural sounds would have been far more fitting. After all, people come here to escape the noise.
Other smaller issues added up: the food was overpriced for the quality (and we saw cockroaches both in the restaurant area and once in our room, which I understand can happen outdoors but still wasn’t pleasant). The activities also felt overpriced — snorkeling came to about $100 per person, while we found full diving trips in Watamu for much less. Lastly, the pillows were very high and hard, which left us both with sore necks in the morning.
Overall, it’s a charming hotel with lovely staff and a beautiful environment, but between the water problems, food pricing, and minor discomforts, it didn’t feel worth the price. Our stay was ok, but would likely stay somewhere else next time.
- Sofia (10/5): This place is wonderful. Nestled among the mangroves of Mida Creek, it's a corner of paradise that will fill your he -

- Ana (1/5): The Worst Facilities I have Ever Come Accross, a Health Hazard and a Con of a Host - The drive to the property is great even though super in the interior. Once you get there, you immediately realize that the drive was not worth it . I do not even know where to start. This has to be the most horrible property I have seen in my entire life. I travelled here with kids because the photos posted online and the reviews are so misleading. Getting there, we could not even recognize the reception, we kept hoping there is another gate that leads to paradise but no, it is a living hell of poorly kept facilities that I won't even pay $10 for if I had known how pathetic and a health hazard is posed. The owner takes advantage of the non refundable policy to let you know that they won't refund your money even if you don't stay but honestly who can even stay there? Everything is mouldy, old and unkempt and the swimming pool is not something I can dip in. Eventually when we realized we won't get a refund we took photos to show the real state of the property to all future unsuspecting guests. While at it, the owner shouted at us, together with the kids to leave his property and followed us threateningly all the way out.
- Taavi (9/5): Superb - A perfect place for a relaxing family holiday. Well equipped and clean rooms, cool facilities including an outdoor gym, lovely and helpful staff who can organise all sorts of activities for you, a boat which takes you to the other side of the creek, and so on and so forth. In short, had a great stay at the Mida Creek Hotel and would book it again in an heartbeat should we visit Watamu again.
- Jackline (5/5): Good location, good staff but no value for money. - The staff are all very kind and amazing. Very helpful 👌 The location offers good serenity. Given the amount they charge I felt like I didn't get much value for money. First they only offer you breakfast, very basic breakfast. You can only choose between pastries or English breakfast which again is served on very small portions. If you need anything extra like an egg or pancake you pay for it.
The food in their restaurant is good but very expensive.
There are cats that will be allover you while in the restaurant area,am allergic to fur so that was a turn off for me.
Lastly there is no much to do if you are solo traveller. The swimming pool was broken. The water sports such as kayaking as indicated in their price list are again very expensive and can only be done when the tide allows it. The beach is area is very small .
- Loise (10/5): Exceptional -
- Marta (10/5): The best place in Kenya! Plenty of things to nearby. The staff will do everything to help you during your stay. The plac - Location, amazing staff, great food, very comfortable rooms, facilities. We loved everything!
- Mathilde (10/5): A little paradise on earth ! - Incredible address , so peaceful, away from the crowd . Nestled in a beautiful mangrove creek,my kids spent hours exploring the depths of the water, right in front of the hotel. It’s very safe, so it was perfect ! If you want to go to watamu, it’s very fast and easy with the captain ready to take you on the other side ( around 5 minutes !), then take a Tuktuk ( the hotel can arrange that for you ) to wherever you like !
Our family room was perfect, there was fans for everyone and we did not suffer from the heat.
Everything is very clean and beautiful . I could not recommend you enough this little paradise ! Plus, the staff is incredibly friendly and discreet. Everything was truly perfect.
- Håkon (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing paradise location and hotel! A beautiful place with everything you need to relax - a beautiful pool, outside beds and palm trees. Gorgeous mangrove trees, and fun to walk on the reef during low tide. Some parts of the day we felt like the only guests, not like the more touristic hotels. All the staff treated us very well, always very helpful! Also great to have the option to go with the free boat ride over to the other side of the creek, to Short beach and Garoda beach. I also recommend Lichthaus and Crab Shack for sunset meals. The breakfast could be improved.
- Jamal (10/5): Exceptional - Great staff and very beautiful Nothing
- Rishabh (9/5): Superb -
- Janus (10/5): Exceptional -
- Vincent (8/5): Nice slightly isolated hotel to relax - This is a fairly secluded hotel - perfect if you are looking for something quieter than the streets of watamu on the other side, or don't want to end up with a large noisy group in some of the trendy resorts. The food was really good. The massage was nice too. The hotel helps organize anything you want. You have to cross the creek for most of the activities and beaches, but the hotel is quite accommodating with its small boat, they dropped us and picked us up pretty much as we wanted.
- Rory (9/5): Superb -
- Marc (10/5): Very relaxing stay in Great Location - Great relaxing Setting with Great Crew
- Gulzat (5/5): Considering the high price, I think I did not get the value for the money I paid. - The Manager and staff were very helpful. The location was great. The cleanness overall was good but towels, bed sheets and bed nets were with stains and mattresses were low quality. Food was ok but not great.
- Doubble (10/5): Great !!! - It was incredible, great walks during low tides, very friendly staff and comfortable room. Nothing
- Lucas (10/5): Wonderful getaway. Definitely coming back. - There’s nothing not to like about this property. Wonderful location, friendly and helpful staff, good food, pleasant rooms etc. N/A
- Jonathan (10/5): Exceptional - Absolutely exceptional spot isolated from the chaotic bustle of Watamu. Excellent staff. Solid food and drink, and amazing grounds.

- Justin (10/5): Undiscovered gem - Mida Creek Hotel has to be one of the most undiscovered gems in Africa. The most incredible place to unwind, relax and soak in the coastline. This is our 4th time visiting year on year and we look forward to coming back every year :-)
- Gibbard (9/5): Even though a short break it was full time relaxation and comfort - European style ; politely served to choice; no fancy presentation.
Same fruits.
But all delicious
Excellent fans in rooms
Very warm welcome and hostessing by Manager
Bar staff exceptionally accommodating
Beautiful grunds and variety of palces to ssit, lie, perch, ponder and reflect Nothing
- Justin (10/5): The best spot in Watamu - I had the best time here! Thank you to Mariam and the staff, I can’t wait to visit again
- Clara (10/5): Best hotel in Watamu! - Amazing location and stunning views of the creek. The private beach is a big plus. Free boat shuttle across the creek is a bonus. The staff were super friendly and accommodating. We ordered octopus and fish from the local fishermen and the chef made a delicious meal just for us. Great activities offered by the hotel. Highly recommend the tubing!
- Emily (10/5): We were looking for a RnR, and we found it at Mida Creek. - Our experience at Mida Creek was wonderful. The staff were incredibly friendly and hospitable, always willing to assist with a smile.
The food was delicious, and while the breakfast was well-prepared and nicely presented, adding more variety would take it to the next level. Utaratibu at its finest!
For those looking to combine exercise with relaxation, my friends highly recommend trying kayaking or stand-up paddleboarding (SUP). It’s a great way to unwind while staying active.
The ambience and serenity of the place is truly therapeutic. The beach is quiet and private, offering a peaceful retreat.
We also suggest taking a walk to the long beach —it’s a beautiful experience. You can catch a sunrise.
We would definitely recommend this place and we are already looking forward to our next visit. Nothing, we are simple human beings.
- Eric (10/5): High level loveliness - A glorious bit of paradise. The free boat ride over to the Lichthaus for sundown and the kayak trip into the mangroves were very very nice X Nothing
- Francesco (10/5): This is a getaway, this is the place you want for you and your significant other(s) to find amazing views, good food, pe - This is a tropical paradise far away from the incredibly annoying beach boys in watamu, this place truly lets you feel what peace feels like Nothing
- Torsten (9/5): Absolutely lovely, secluded, and private stay on a lovely bay in the creek. Feels very 'high end'. - This is a small (only six rooms, I think) hotel on the 'other side' of Mida Creek - opposite the concentration of hotels and restaurants on the northern mainland. It's and small number of other guests and secluded location on a bay in the creek means that it's calm, secluded, and feels almost like a special private home. That said, it's still super easy to get to the other side of the creek with a small private boat (free transfer once a day) that takes you there in 5-10 minutes. The fact that the place is so small (in terms of rooms and overall number of guests) and that all rooms are around a central 'square' or open space - and hence close to each other - can mean that you feel you might be impinging on other guests' peace and quiet when you come as a family with small (and noisy) children.
- Christopher (10/5): I’d go back in a heartbeat ❤️ - Gorgeous hotel, relaxed and chilled with lovely facilities and fabulous staff.
Breakfast fresh fruit, cooked breakfast and baked items and delicious juice.
Loads of seating, hammocks, loungers attractively kauf out, some on platforms. Boat across the estuary to Watamu is quick and efficient and beautiful.
It’s a hidden gem tucked away - perfect for those who like a chilled atmosphere. If you’re a noisy group this place wouldn’t be for you as it’s small but perfect for couples, families, friends.
- Roberto (10/5): Dream location - I loved it! It's a very special place. I was a bit scared of sleeping in an open room without windows. But there was not a single mosquito. Also, the mosquito net did a great job. Same for the two fans near the bed, so it never got too hot.
- Car (9/5): Superb - Location, view, staff
- Peilin (10/5): An eco, lovely and cozy place with great value for money, perfect for travelers who want to enjoy the beautiful nature w - My partner and I spent a week at the Mida Creek and we wish we could have extended our stay! It’s a really lovely and cozy place, perfect for travelers who want to enjoy the beautiful nature with peace and quiet. Unlike the Watamu side that is always crowded, the Mida Creek feels more private. All staff is recruited locally, very friendly and knows their village the best. We also went for snorkeling twice with the captain of the hotel who has stunning skills of guiding visitors under water. It’s a lot of fun to go to Watamu by boat that’s offered by the hotel. When the water is low, you can spot starfish, puffers and others on the sandbar right behind the hotel. There are also some friendly monkeys in the mangroves. A great eco and sweet holiday resort that I won’t hesitate to book again for my next trip to Watamu. Everything was perfect
- King (10/5): Truly a hidden jem! - The location was perfect. Beautiful and quiet. The creek is truly a hidden jem. We loved it so much we extended our stay. The dinner portions, particularly the calamari were extremely small for the money charged.
- Tamara (10/5): Excellent hospitality and paradise-like location - We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. Mariam is an excellent host, always helpful and attentive. The location is truly paradise-like, enhanced by the friendly staff and the charming animals around. It made for a delightful and memorable experience. Highly recommended!
- David (10/5): A surprising hidden gem - Loved the private beach and garden area Nothing
- Leila (10/5): Exceptional -
- Steve (10/5): Exceptional -
- Matteo (10/5): Paradise - Fantastic hotel, very intimate and relaxing atmosphere, fabulous staff The last boat to go to watamu is 8:30 pm
- Kibor (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent staff, kind and helpful.
- Christopher (3/5): Paid for 3 nights, left after 2 - The staff were all lovely NOISE. Triple room is almost inside echoing reception area. On other side of the room is staff area, meat carcass cutting etc.and outdoor gym.NO GLASS IN WINDOWS. Thin curtains blown up by the wind. Zero intimacy and lots of light at night and noise during the day (arrivals, departures). Relentless "music" at restaurant can be heard everywhere. Groups of daytrippers stroll loudly around smoking and vaping. Two sisters (12 and 8 year's old?) argued, cried, screamed, reconciled, then argued cried again etc for hours on end, day after day. Audible throughout the resort. Loud amplified Italian phone calls just outside our door, where wifi reception was supposedly good.
The shower in our room had ingrained dirt on the floor.
Large gaps round window frames where insects could enter the room.
The whole resort is crammed into too small an area.
The beach is tiny, and when you've seen local youths parading six varieties of dog on the beach, you don't really fancy it.
There is simply nowhere to go to get some peace and quiet; and that includes your room!
- Erica (7/5): Exclusive and relaxing place - The place looks amazing, exactly as you can see in the pictures. The room we had was spacious and unique in its style.
The food was really good, congrats to the chefs! Nevertheless, for vegetarians there is not so much choice if you want to stick to local cuisine, only a few italian dishes available, which we wanted to avoid. Please increase swahili dishes available for vegetarians :)
The staff is friendly. The location is perfect if you want to be in a quiet place far away from the crowd at Watamu. It felt like we were alone, which was great.
They will bring you to the other side with their boat for free (one roundtrip x day), and you'll have direct access to the most amazing beaches of Watamu. Garoda beach is at walking distance.
Mariam has been great in assisiting us for all our requests, connecting us with drivers for pickup at the airport (I strongly advise to arrive at Malindi, do not do like us) and touk touks trusted drivers. Unfortunately we did not sleep well. There was a scratching sound we kept hearing coming from the wooden roof, which we believe could be woodworms. Nothing to worry about, just the constant sound was loud every night, in the complete silence. The bed was a bit hard for us. The room was cleaned, but on the matress and sheets there were some orange drops, probably coming from the roof.
- Olivia (8/5): Best kept secret in Watamu - Good friendly staff
Eco friendly
Quiet, quaint location
Interesting hidden corners that offer personal privacy
Free boat ride across the Creek Very small beach area and distance from main road as well as other amenities was a drawback. But the regular boat ride across the creek to other beaches and entertainment spots in watamu made up for it. Boat-stop at Lichthaus is a plus!
- Nonduduzo (9/5): Delightful - Mida Creek offers an exceptional experience with its impressive facilities designed for relaxation. The staff are outstanding, providing excellent service and ensuring effective communication from the booking process through to the end of the stay. Also appreciated the airport pickup and drop off. Overall, my time at Mida Creek was thoroughly enjoyable, and I was delighted with every aspect of my visit. I think the breakfast could be improved. Additionally, investing in new towels would greatly enhance guest comfort, as the current ones are somewhat aged and not as soft on the skin as they could be.

- Cip (9/5): Wonderful hotel, service, food, activities! Far from Watamu though so beware. - The Mida Creek Hotel is beautiful, secluded, has activities to do should you choose to partake, and is accessible to main Watamu by boat during the day for outings. If you are planning to hit the late-night scene in Watamu, this is not the place for you. While there is a boat to cross the creek, it stops at 8:30pm. Without a boat, you are left begging a driver to get you back down dirt roads and a 30-40minute drive from Watamu.
- Stacey (10/5): Peaceful relaxing stay - It was nice and secluded so you really was at peace here. Felt like we were the only ones which was very nice . The quality of the food was amazing compliments to chef proper Swahili cuisine. my mum is Kenyan and very picky and she loved it too . Their breakfast was my favourite.
- Dorine (9/5): Lovely 3 day stay at The Mida Creek - We really enjoyed the stay at this hidden boutique hotel. It had a relaxing environment where everyone is welcoming, calm and friendly.
There is a boat that can bring you within 10 to 15 minutes to Lichthaus which is a nice and vibrant place. From Lichthaus it is another 15 minutes by taxi to down town Watamu.
However we really enjoyed staying back at The Mida Creek, there are a lot of different nooks to sit and lay down which is lovely.
- Aimee (8/5): Very good -
- Femina (9/5): Superb -
- Natalie (9/5): Our great escape - A mum with her three kids had such an amazing time at this venue. Such a serene, relaxing and friendly place to be. The kids had such a wonderful time and the venue is designed in such a way that it's easy to keep an eye on the kids. Staff is friendly. Food is great. Vibe is amazing. So many sweet spots to just kick back and relax. We can't wait to go back! Nothing not to like.
However would just like to mention that maybe a pool table or tennis table or both would be great.
For some evening entertainment 😉
- M (10/5): A gem of a place - Very relaxed, beautiful setting. The staff were incredibly helpful and nothing was too much trouble.
- Harriet (5/5): We ended up staying for one night instead of 3. And the facility manager was not flexible to give us a refund back. - The hot shower and the shower gel smells really nice!!!
Their breakfast is also okay!. we didn’t like the place because it was not as vibrant as the images portrayed on booking.com.
It was below our expectations.
We had issues with the lights in our room as well of which later was fixed.
- Sylvia (10/5): Fantastic - Our stay at Mida Creek was fantastic and i would revisit!
Mariam, the manager was very warm and helped us organise for transfers to the Hotel.
The view was everything! The Hotel gives you a front row view to the Ocean and the nature around is truly a reflection of God's beauty.
The staff were extremely warm and accomodating; eager to please and open to feedback. Special thanks to Kenneth, Rehema and Gracious.
The hotel even organised a Birthday cake for my spouse, yet we had not made the request( he still thinks i made the request). Very special. Thanks Mariam.
The Hotel offers a boatride, to and fro the hotel, makes movement quite easy. The rooms are clean, loved the showers, food was amazing....Definetly one of my best stays. The equipment including mats in the outdoor gym need dusting/cleaning.
- Jessica (7/5): Small but well laud out, quiet, easy frequent boat ride to where the action is, just needs upkeep - Its small and quiet, staff are wonderful and the food is good, saltwater pool which i prefer, it is shallow so great for kids I love the eco concept but in a tropical climate it just needs upkeep. The showers were quite musty and thatching needs redoing in the room. Prepare for insects!
- Imona (8/5): Very good -
