Guest Reviews
- Bridget (10/5): excellent - My daughter and I came to the IOW for a family funeral. Friday the 8th was a really warm day and that evening 9 of us ate outside and it was a wonderful family get together for us with delicious food - family having travelled from Skye in Scotland and Henny and I from Cambridge, so the location was perfect for us.
- Luca (9/5): Le eggs benedict ancora me le sogno!!!! - Tutto Dave straordinario padrone di casa si mangia da dio colazione stupenda andava tutto bene
- Lorraine (8/5): -
- Millie (10/5): -
- Garry (8/5): The staff were very friendly but having breakfast on demand from people walk in was too disorganised and the wait too lo - Great position to view the Solent Breakfast was too disorganised
- Jennifer (10/5): -
- Janet (9/5): Great for a night's stay in Cowes when walking the coastal path - Really lovely staff, very welcoming on a rainy night. Pub was obviously very popular and we enjoyed our evening meal
- EDWIN (9/5): Woodfall - as good as it was 10 years ago. - Excellent bed & bathroom. Wonderful breakfast , very amiable breakfast chef. Cleaning lady works like a Trojan ! Steep stairs, small (though effective )shower.
- john (8/5): -
- Mark (10/5): -
- Paul (9/5): - Nice big room had everything It was all good
- Stephen (6/5): -
- Michelle (10/5): Lovely accommodation for a lovely weekend awa would definitely come back - Location was perfect , lovely and clean and food was really good The only downside is there is no car park so unless you get there first thing in the morning you will struggle to get a parking space
- Sarah (8/5): Friendly staff. Great location - It was situated right on the seafront. Ideal location for where we were visiting The shower was a bit small & dated
- Julie (9/5): -
- jacques (8/5): -
- Michael (8/5): -
- Gerald (10/5): Gorgeous location, quiet, comfy rooms, lovely staff - We liked all of it, clean and quiet rooms, great location, lovely staff There was nothing we didn’t like
- Woodrow (8/5): Lovely and relaxing in a perfect location. - An amazing location with great views over the bay. The staff went out of their way to be helpful and the food was great - I would describe as classic pub grub. I would definitely recommend. Location, food, helpful staff, clean rooms, great selection of food and wine. Really good breakfasts.
- Alex (10/5): perfect for my work trip, thank you so much - lovely lovely lovely, great place to stay. nothing!
- Sarah (9/5): Fabulous sunsets over Gurnard! - Fantastic views, delicious breakfast, lovely staff and comfy rooms. The rooms are accessible via stairs. This was fine for myself, son and daughter in law but not ideal for my mum.
- Sharon (10/5): A great place to relax! - What a lovely place to stay we had a room with a view of the Solent, the breakfasts were amazing as was the food when dining in, which we did most nights, such a great selection with vegetarian/vegan options.
The staff were friendly and helpful.
We would stay here again. We could not get a uber or taxi (we tried 4 taxi companies) as we would have liked to have had dinner at one of the restaurants in Cowes. The bar staff tried too but there was nothing!
- Caroline (9/5): A cosy stay in November in a very welcoming inn with sea views and lovely sunsets - Room was spacious and clean with lovely sea views, great shower and comfortable bed. Breakfast and dinner were excellent and the staff very helpful and friendly. There is no carpark but we did manage to park easily near by
- Satpall (8/5): Worth a visit.
Thank - Location with sea views was great. Staff were very attentive. Evening meal, a curry was very poor.
- Benjamin (8/5): - Mattress was not brilliant, but that's because I prefer a harder one.
I had asked for a room with a bath and was told that they would do that, but then when we arrived was just a shower.
- Mark (9/5): -
- Darren (10/5): Excellent from start to finish - Everything Nothing
- Colin (7/5): Nice facility but certain things could do with an upgrade - I liked the fact it was right on the seafront & staff couldn’t have been nicer I wasn’t that impressed with the shower mixer taps, you could never seem to get the right temperature & I couldn’t work out how to use the TV
- Tony (9/5): - The location, view, staff and facilities. Nothing
- Justin (10/5): Lovely place, will definitely come back next time we’re on the island - Clean, great location, friendly staff, great breakfast Nothing
- Martin (10/5): We’ve been visiting family on the Isle of Wight for years, only wish we’d found the Woodvale sooner!! - Everything!! We booked at short notice, all of the staff were very helpful, the food was excellent, the room was very clean and well presented.
- Jordan (10/5): Excellent, the best location, Dave and his staff were very accommodating - Excellent location, rooms very comfortable and spacious, wonderful sea view from our room. Nothing
- Hannah (10/5): Left feeling happy 😌 - Perfect location to stay with pretty sea views. Our room was amazing! It was clean & comfortable with all you needed in it and bathroom was clean with a powerful shower which was good. And we enjoyed eating in the restaurant too breakfast and dinner was delicious. Overall very happy we stayed here!
- CATHERINE (8/5): Gorgeous setting for this coastal hotel - Fabulous setting by the sea with plenty of outdoor seating and great view from the bar. Great atmosphere in the bar, very busy today. However, rooms were high up, so there was no noise from downstairs. Large bathroom with powerful shower and bath.
Very helpful staff who made us welcome. Had a nice meal in the restaurant.
They provided safe bike storage too! Mattress was too soft and room a bit small.
- Louise (10/5): Woodvale stay - Staff were very friendly and helpful. The location is fantastic and just a short walk to Cowes. The bed was a little soft but that's just a personal preference rather than an issue with anything there.
- Philip (9/5): A great beach-side holiday hotel. - We very much enjoyed our holiday stay in this pleasant hotel which is in a great location just outside Cowes and a few yards from a nice beach. The room was comfortable and well presented with views over the Solent. Breakfast was excellent, and we also enjoyed dinner in the bar. There is free parking on adjacent streets and there was always space during our stay. The staff we met were great, and Martin and Dave were particularly helpful. We will come again. Intending guests should note that the rooms are on the second floor and there is no lift. But hotel staff were on hand to deal with luggage so it was not a problem for us.
- Peter (8/5): -
- David (7/5): -
- Hodgson (9/5): -
- Sylvia (10/5): Our stay was excellent, will definitely come again. - Breakfast was excellent, service very quick and staff very friendly. Being seated for dinner on a table between two toilet areas.
- Charlotte (9/5): Beautiful stay by the sea - Lovely views, friendly and helpful staff, convenient restaurant/bar. Nothing
- Arpitkumar (10/5): Good. Trip - Good service polite staff Nice staff nice hospitality
- Ian Crowther (7/5): Great view, amazing breakfast, steady rooms and evening meals - Happy memories - Breakfast was the highlight - the chef makes you feel like a guest in his home!
The view - the view and location are great, although the beach is rocky - go south for beaches
Evening Meals - Good enough
Rooms - A bit dated, but clean and comfortable
Price - Prob a touch overpriced but this is a decent independant. Confusion over checkin - was asked to pay £1800 on arrival for 3-4 nights! That system needs looking at
- magnus (10/5): EXCEPTIONAL BY ANY MEASURE - The Woodvale claims to have an exceptional breakfast. They are not lying. But they forgot to add everything else is exceptional. The room, the staff, the location, the food even the wee stroll along the promenade to Cowes. And let's not forget the AMAZING sunset. If you can go there... Nothing.
- Perla (7/5): -
- Stefan (8/5): -
- Allan (9/5): -
- Gillian (9/5): Lovely, relaxing stay although needed car to get around, taxi and bus services were sparse. - Staff friendly and welcoming. Rooms spacious and clean. Lovely environment and views of beach and sea.
- ROSEMARY (9/5): Exactly what we wanted for a long weekend visiting family - Personal interaction with lovely staff, buzzing atmosphere, comfortable, clean accommodation, lovely choice of breakfasts, quiet overnight, fabulous location No specific parking however road parking was reasonably easy, no lift however staff were willing to help if needed
- Neil (10/5): -
- Lauren (10/5): My favourite place - Thank you very much for a wonderful stay at The Woodvale. The food, the views and the service is fantastic 😊 I was very relaxed and wish I could have stayed longer.
See you again soon!
- Bryn (9/5): - Very helpful staff
- Marilyn (8/5): Enjoyed our stay, friendly staff and good breakfasts - It was a good location for meeting up with friends who live further along the road.
The breakfast was excellent, and nothing too much trouble. There was no lift to the floor our rooms were on.
The mattress on the bed was very soft, and one of the pillows was very lumpy.
- Jackie (6/5): Pleasant -
- Eric (9/5): Superb -
- Elaine (3/5): Disappointing - The venue - on beach front. Good friendly staff. The experience was very disappointing. I booked breakfast both mornings and the first was one hour late and the second 30 mins late - the chef was one hour late to work on day 2, I was told. The muffin was rock hard and had to be sent back, after 25 mins of waiting I was told there was no spinach. The room window blind also fell off right over me to the floor. I have been here before and all was good, but this time I was really dissatisfied.
- John (9/5): Nice quiet spot - Friendly helpful staff
- Carl (7/5): Good -
- N (10/5): Brilliant location , amazing sunsets , brilliant food - Superb second time staying still as good sent the sun set from room magical !
- William (8/5): - The Woodvale is a pub with rooms. Our room was pleasant and was reasonably spacious. Bathroom had a shower and was very clean, although a little old. Staff were friendly and helpful. We ate in the pub which served decent food. Overall we enjoyed our stay.
- Ilaria (8/5): Very good - Super full English breakfast
- Rzgar (6/5): I booked for tow adults and baby girl and I got one small duble Bed … it wasn’t enough for us.. - Me my wife and our little girl have no breakfast The thing I don’t like it was a pop not a hotel and I didn’t knew it..
I wouldn’t book it if I knew it because of my little girl
She is only 5 months old that’s all..
- Margaret (10/5): Would definitely stay again lovely experience - Excellent staff and food were brilliant couldn't do enough
- Jeremy (10/5): Great location with great views - The new owner couldn't have been more helpful when he realised the outside lock-up wasn't secure for bikes, and let us store them inside. It is a beautiful location with great views, and a good restaurant too.
- Jeff (8/5): Lovely setting - Staff, cleanliness and location. Low ceiling on the stairs coming down, better signage could be added.
- Tom (10/5): - The hotel manager was very accommodating and friendly. We really enjoyed the stay, particularly because of the level of service. Great!
- Julian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Russell (8/5): Great place to stay to enjoy the views of the Solent - Brilliant views of the Solent and lovely places to sit outside. Food was great - both breakfast and dinner. Lots of awkward stairs to the rooms
- Robert (9/5): Superb -
- Gillian (8/5): Not quite as expected but nevertheless a satisfying stay - Some of the staff were extremely helpful and accommodating Occasi0onally had to wait a long time for service
- Fryer (8/5): Overall very good! - The breakfasts were very good. The morning chef was exceptional. On our final day, we had to leave at 6am he prepared a packed breakfast for us to be able to take with us on our journey. Brilliant!
The location was lovely with views over the Solent. The stairs! Very difficult, especially when your wife is blind. To compensate however, the manager and his staff were most helpful in ensuring that our bags were delivered to our room and taken down on the morning of our departure. We'll done Dave!
- Kate (7/5): Perfect place to stay if you are looking for a relaxed and comfortable bed and breakfast - The location was great. Views were fantastic. Lovely to walk into Cowes from the hotel. The room was a great size and very comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was really good. Dog friendly.
- Adrian (8/5): Great stay location good. - Breakfast great. Second visit as expected. Wonderful view, friendly staff. Room was 20% more expensive than last year
- Timothy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lionel (9/5): Fantastic stop with spectacular sunset on our bike tour. - An amazing location and a fantastic place to sit outside and watch the sunset. Food also excellent- would recommend.
- Alan (10/5): Staff great food great venue great !! - Excellent breakfast best we have ever had ! Don’t know
- James (10/5): Exceptional -
- Corbett (9/5): Superb -
- Chris (8/5): Fantastic location for a lovely stroll into Cowes, it’s perfect at the front too with the grass area and shingle beach. - Location and view were excellent. The Manager, Steve, was fantastic - very friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. The shower head and cubical could do with a spray of mould & mildew. Sadly, we had no hot water one evening just when we were getting ready to go out. This was resolved by restarting the boiler, but it wasn’t enough before we went out.
- Stevieevs (10/5): A very pleasant stay would recommend the property. - Having previously stayed before the location, views and standard of the property is amazing. I ate for evening meal and breakfast and both meals were well prepared and very tasty. nothing
- Sean (10/5): Really enjoyed our stay. - Location and friendly staff Nothing all was good
- Darren (9/5): Superb -
- Gregory (10/5): - Excellent service and lovel
y outlook. Great cooked breakfast!!
- Sharon (5/5): Passable - Food and staff Brillant very helpful food excellent
Room to many stairs
Room was next to laundry room so could hear washing machine vibrating
Did not get cleaned the next day
Very noisy where situated See above
- Jason (8/5): Great peaceful stay lovely place - Lovely location
Great staff friendly and very welcoming
- Ruth (7/5): Comfortable room but quite expensive. - Location good as it was near to relatives. Nice view weather permitting! Nice food. Good tea/coffee facilities . Bottled water and biscuits. Bathroom very clean with soap/shampoo etc. bed comfortable. Not always a member of staff around especially at breakfast. Not very warm in room or bathroom. TV remote needs renewing .
- Joanne (10/5): Can't wait to go back! - We had a fantastic stay at the Woodvale. The food was excellent and despite it being a very busy time (just a few days before Christmas so lots of big parties) we didn't wait too long for our meals.
We had a lovely, en-suite family room with a sea view. There was a sofa and coffee table too which gave us another space to sit, rather than just the bed. Even though there was a busy bar downstairs, we couldn't hear anything upstairs in the bedroom. We weren't disturbed by any noise. A definite bonus when you need your 8 year old to go to sleep!!
The staff were exceptional. As I said, we stayed just before Christmas so it was busy with locals and parties but nothing was too much trouble. Everyone was so welcoming.
We wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Woodvale to anyone and we will be booking again for another stay here!
Thank you Steve and the team!
- Elaine (8/5): Very good -
- Michael (10/5): Lovely stay and I will stay again when on the island. 😀 - The breakfast is excellent- kept m going through to the evening.
Evening meals were locally sourced food and tasted delicious.
The venue is used by locals particularly on quiz nights and other events. Room 5 mattress was causing me a backache, however I reported this in the morning and a new mattress was fitted that day.
Excellent service. 😃
- Neil (8/5): Very good - The food was good, the location was fantastic, staff were generally friendly and helpful Bed was quite uncomfortable and the room was generally cold
- Tim (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent room and good food Nothing really
- Chris (9/5): Superb -
- Turner (10/5): Exceptional - The staff were very friendly and helpful and couldn't do enough for you , especially Martin, who cooked breakfast, he was a superstar Had the fish pie on the first night, and it was horrible, but the rest of the meals were lovely
- Stephen (9/5): Super, friendly, great location with excellent views - There was nothing to dislike most enjoyable experience thank you to all the staff.
Super breakfast recommended the eggs florentine. Nothing
- Joanna (10/5): Friendly atmosphere and wonderful location. - The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food is great. Breakfast was terrific. We visited the restaurant every evening and really enjoyed the friendly atmosphere and very tasty food.
We even joined in with the PubQuiz on Monday evening. Wonderful location right on the beach. . Easy parking. We will definitely be returning. Nothing
- Stephen (8/5): Very good -
- Pmp123 (9/5): Superb - Set in a tranquil little bay in Gurnard. We walked the seafront route from the ferry at East Cowes, which took around 50 minutes. Nice room , good breakfast in a quiet spot, elevated slightly above the seafront. Booked a 3 nighter in April as we left, so would recommend for a relaxing break. Nothing of note to get worked up about
- Alison (8/5): Very good -
- Lucy (8/5): Very good - Great location. Good size room. Shower difficult to control temperature.
