Richard (1/5): Not fit for purpose - Can't really comment as we didn't like what we saw. We didn't stay, as the place appeared unkept with dirty washing lying on the floor in the eating/breakfast room. Owner appeared asleep in the bar area with only a dog to greet us. The owner finally awoke, and appeared to be unsteady on her feet. We left. Our prepayment of £270 was never refunded, even though Donna said she would refund us. Shall never visit Looe again.

MR K TOMBS (1/5): NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE. AVOID AT ALL COSTS - The view The whole place was dusty, and had a profound musty smell. Even the clean towels stank. There was no heating or hot water for the first and third nights No fire notices in the room. We were alone in the hotel for all nights, as it was unattended. Owner left a note saying she had been called away on urgent family business, but we found simular notes left with the same tale in the untidy reception area. The man who turned up to cook breakfast in the morning said he was helping out, but we suspect he is the owner just saying that to deflect any criticism we might have had. Some food items had been left out for days. We left a day early. The owner promised us a refund,, but that was 4 days ago, and nothing is forthcoming.
u (5/5): A bit disappointing due to the lack of the presence of the hotel host and breakfast - Location was good although it's a steep climb to the hotel entrance. The view of the river from the room we had was nice. No response to calls, voice messages or email sent prior to arrival. Had to wait 15mins to be let in on arrival and was not given any overview or shown the lounge (or bar) as shown in the pictures. No one was available after initial contact and during the stay (including breakfast time). Breakfast was not as advertised (and not available). Room access was a little difficult (due to stairs).

Steve (3/5): Not value for money , wouldn't return. - Breakfast was good when chef was there. When the owner was there items of food were missing and on one occasion no Breakfast at all. View from room was lovely. On arrival, dirty stained sheet. No breakfast on one morning, the owner ( Donna ) was intoxicated.

Marilyn (6/5): Sadly this would not be a place I would stay at again for the above reasons - The location of the hotel to the amenities was good and I was able to use public transport to go to varies places The room I was given was okay my only issue was the view of a brick wall as the hotel was not very busy I don’t see why I could not have had one of the rooms with a view, especially as the weather was not very good so sitting in this room I found it quite depressing.

Emily (3/5): Great location, but hotel is not worth the price. - Location was great to get into the town and very close to restaurants and cafes. Breakfast service was only served on one of the days on our two night stay. Towels were dirty and stained, floors looked unhoovered and dirty. Staff were absent for everything other than check in. No check out process. Towels, milk, and other items left out around the corridors and landings the whole stay.

Tony (4/5): Wouldn't stay here again. - Breakfast was good. Not very clean and the room smelled mouldy and damp. Bedroom at the back is very dark and cold. Tv did not work and was not resolved when asked about.

The only issue was the steep slope and steps up to the property which might be an issue for some. The room was small but very comfortable and clean with a fantastic view. The breakfast choice was varied and everything I had was delicious.The breakfast room was lovely with a great view. Thank you to the owners and staff for making it such a pleasant break. Just need to be aware of slopes and steep stairs be some bedrooms.

Robyn (3/5): Very disappointing and sad for Donna we also had to pay for breakfast at the local cafe with no reimbursement from our h - The location was amazing. The setting fantastic The hotel is very rundown the stairs to the street we’re very dangerous need repair. Our host Donna was not available most of the time. Either by bell or presence. The lounge room for guests wasn’t available. I think the host was sleeping there. For three of our six breakfasts the chef left and Donna was indisposed. When Donna was serving breakfast she wasn’t capable and the food wasn’t good. She was barefoot and smelt of alcohol

Damien (10/5): A great stay for the price - We had a wonderful stay. Me and my 12 year old daughter stayed for 3 nights and on the 2nd and 3rd night we were offered an additional room next door that was available for added privacy, which we were very grateful for. Donna couldn’t have been more accommodating throughout our stay and remembered the little touches, like my daughter having a hot chocolate at breakfast. My daughter also fell in love with Mia the dog. Having read the reviews prior to our stay and going in with an open mind, we were pleasantly surprised. Some of the other reviews are justifiable to a degree, but with what we paid compared to many other accommodation in the town at the time of booking, we thought it was well worth it. The rooms and bathroom was checked daily and contrary to other reviews, we didn’t experience unclean sheets, bedding or towels and we had the two rooms. The breakfast was timely and exceptional with my daughter saying it’s the best vegetarian options she’s ever had. If you go in with the expectation as to what you pay for, you won’t be disappointed. My daughter would like to go back, so no doubt we will be back at The Deganwy in Looe in the future. Thanks again Donna. A bit of TLC in some parts of the building and cleaning in the unseen places in the room would likely make the stay unbeatable for the price.

Jo (5/5): Disappointed - The view from our room. Pleasant hostess. The bathroom was clean apart from the shower head. Tea and coffee facilities in our room and fresh water each day. The smell of wet dog as you enter the building. Dog hairs on breakfast utensils and napkins. Marks and slight stains on the bedding and towels. Part of the curtain was detached from its hooks at one end. One morning we went down for breakfast and our hostess was not up and breakfast was not ready so we went into town.
Fred (1/5): Never again - Location near to town center Carry suitcases from car park up ramp then stairs was a hard task No dogs allowed which is good as my wife has an allergic reaction to dogs but owner has a dog that has free run of hotel Bed side lamp not working was reported next day and was builb will be replaced the next day we stayed a week and was never replaced . Coffee table top in room was just sitting on four wobbly legs top was sort of fixed but legs where still lose.no vacuuming was done in our room for the week we where there.Breakfast is included but for two days after waiting for forty minutes in the breakfast room with other guest no staff appeared and tables where not laid for breakfast this happened for two days then on our last day guests where all ready waiting for half an hour one guest rang the door bell and asked a staff is there going to be breakfast today.guest staying on the top floor told us that this morning they opened there front room door and found dog poo on the carpet by there door. There was meant to be a bar in a lounge room we where never shown that and when we had a look in the lounge room one night there was personal belongings of the owners on chairs and the floor plus the dog laying across the armchair not the type of place I would like to have a drink in. 0121supermum (6/5): Away with the in-laws - Location is spot on, you can walk everywhere you need to.get too. Breakfast was very good and plenty of toast. Nothing was too much to ask for but sometimes forgotten. Plenty of tea, coffee facilities. Bathroom clean and tidy with shampoo and bodywash. Parking wasn't too bad you received a parking permit when you arrive to a car park just behind the petrol station. Could't use the lounge as we think it was being decorated which was a shame as in an evening it would have been nice to sit there. The owner has a dog which wasn't an issue for us but was only told once we'd arrived could be an issue for others. Did explain why our carpet had little wet patch. Overall it looked like the owner was updating the decor as the dining area and hallways are nicely decorated. Front of the accommodation is a great suntrap but needs tidying up. Nothing ruin our stay and the weather was perfect.
Cullen (4/5): I requested a partial refund. Booking.com pursued but they did not get a response from host. - We were greeted by the host and before showing us to our room we were offered refreshment whilst sitting in the sun, all a very positive start. The room: Facilities left for refreshment but did not include tea bags and no fresh milk as described above, just long life milk. No hairdryer, ironing board but no iron, bed linen looked old and worn out, the pillows especially looked a bit grey, one pillow had stains on it and despite this, bedlinen was not changed during our stay, underneath the bed was dirty – there was a gap so plenty of room to get a vacuum cleaner under and the room did not appear to be cleaned or vacuumed during our stay, curtains partly hanging off at sides so looked really untidy. The only redeeming feature was the view from the window. Bathroom: Was not cleaned for the duration of our stay. Ran out of toilet rolls and as we couldn’t contact the host, we resorted to asking the breakfast chef who told us to ask the cleaner when he got in. Eventually mentioned to the host and she grabbed us already used rolls, seemingly from the other rooms. Not sure what is meant by finest toiletries. There was a shampoo and body wash bottle on the wall in the shower and the body wash ran out before our departure and not replaced. Breakfast: Breakfast was good when it arrived, thanks to the chef. However, there were delays with the host sometimes not turning up and us having to ask the chef directly for breakfast. There were a couple of days we waited 45 minutes for breakfast to arrive. Breakfast tables always had something missing and on one occasion I had to knock on the kitchen door to ask the chef for butter as the host was nowhere to be seen. On occasions we were allocated a table that was dirty from the previous guests. Another guest described their experience as “a shambles”. Car Parking: The host provided a parking permit for bay 12 in the nearby car park. However, most days another car was parked in that bay so we had to park elsewhere. The car in bay 12 had a permit which also stated it was for bay 12 so when I mentioned this to the host, she said she would sort it. We did not hear anything back and worried every morning that our car would be clamped. The Host: Appeared to be intoxicated every morning to the point of swaying whilst taking an order, not being able to string a sentence together and getting breakfast orders wrong. On one occasion she got down on the floor to turn the music on and she fell over and took the order bare feet from the floor! The only days when she did not appear in this state is on our arrival, the next morning for breakfast and on our last morning. Not the service we expect to pay for.

Gunnell (9/5): Little trip to looe - The location of the b&b was great , town just a stone throw from the hotel. It was clean and comfortable and host Donna was very friendly. Breakfast was very good, nice variety. Noise from street late at night kept us awake.......but view from room was fabulous.

Deborah (4/5): Our stay was nothing like what I expected especially after reading a lot of the reviews - The proximity to the town and beach and the parking permit The room was small unlike in the photos. The shower was not at all powerful. Breakfast was awful and took forever to come out. The bar area looked like a store room and three times I rang the bell to speak with Donna but she never once came to answer. I saw more of her dog than I did her and saw a note saying how the dog had done a wee outside of room seven! Final straw was coming down on the second morning to a sign saying due to unforeseen circumstances breakfast was unavailable so couldn’t even have a cereal or tea or coffee

Despite reviews Steps sheet frayed and torn, curtains very poor condition on top so unable to shut properly, no breakfast on Sunday 6th July morning with note propped up on unit , no explanation this morning, had to pay 25.00 to have breakfast that morning for us as did majority due that morning to have breakfast at Dottys .

Room was dirty, wallpaper peeling, large marks on wall,cups were stained and so was teapot. Bathrooms was dirty too marks on tiles, grouting was dirty, mould on door and small bin at side of toilet was rusty and dirty too ! Everything looks like needs a deep clean and decorating everywhere!! Looking very tired inside and outside especially from the road.

My room overlooked the river, which I really liked. Sash windows were nice, but some of the panes of glass were cracked and made the room a bit cold. Paint flaking off around the windows. So, it maybe needs a bit of work

Werner (9/5): Nice little hotel right in the centre - Breakfast was lovely, and Donna was a good host, the bathroom and shower was excellent very spacious The bed was comfortable and the wardrobe was handy to hang things in, unfortunately there were two thick cobwebs hanging from the ceiling, and the window handle was missing. Luckily we wanted the window open anyway. There were a few feathers coming through the duvet that scratched us on a few occasions a bit disconcerting but feathers do come through eventually.

The room is not clean but with a nice view. Breakfast was included, the owner was not feeling well as a result we had breakfast in a cafe, we were not refunded. I am disappointed.

Wilson (8/5): 4 night stay - location and view. Good breakfast. Photo on website o f our room was slightly deceptive; wasn't the room we thought we were getting. No problem with having external bathroom but maybe provide dressing gown(s). Bed linen a little tired and also the towels.

Diane (1/5): Bad - Location but its up a ramp and lots of steep stairs. Free Parking We booked a double room with Seaview for our 51st Wedding Anniversary, which we informed the Hotel about. We got a small double room with seaview and a separate bathroom down the corridor. Room 5. You couldn't even fit any bedside tables in! The fitted sheet was crumpled and not fitted to the bed. The hall light kept going on and off all night. There was loud talking at 12.30am and then the Landlady opened our door! She said sorry that she should be sleeping in Room 7. A far better room and why weren't we given that en-suite bedroom? The breakfast looked ok until I found a dead fly under the fried bread! No milk, butter or jam on the table. The toast, when it came was burnt. We want most of our money back but no response from them having emailed, phoned and texted. It's no way to run a Guest House or hotel. We left after night one instead of 3!

Susan (6/5): - Met on arrival & shown to our room. Asked if we mind dogs. We don't and Mia was a dream, but feel it should be mentioned. The room was at the back without a view but not an issue, meant it was quiet & we don't go away to sit in our room. There was tea & coffee, and (just) one biscuit (not a deal breaker obviously) However, the shelf in the bathroom was very dusty (not new dust - it hadn't been cleaned in a while) / the plastic beakers in the bathroom had been used and the skirting boards, and behind the sink were very dirty. However, the bed was large, and the bedding was clean. There is a bar at the property, but we never saw anyone use it - nor were we told how to contact anyone should we want a drink or what times this was possible. B/fast 1 - b/fast was very nice indeed. We had to ask for toast twice and received it after we'd finished. We also got 'told off' for sitting at the wrong table (we weren't informed there was a right table) so we made a joke out of it. Day 2, sat at the right table - the cups were filthy (got them changed) Day 3, Had to wait for the table so sat in the lounge with the washing. B/fast took an hour & we still had wait for toast. Picked up our napkins, the plates underneath had been used. Towels used were left in the shower as requested & stayed there for 2 days. Saw the chef using his tea towel to wipe down the outside handrail when he was on a break Food was lovely - but all in all not quite good enough. We still love Looe!

Harriet (8/5): Comfortable stay with harbour view - Hotel room had a lovely view across the harbour. The room was clean and comfortable, and the cooked breakfast was good. Parking was available and staff were friendly. There were a few items missing in the room (e.g. extra toilet roll, hand soap, mugs).

karina (10/5): - Due to unforseen circumstances we arrived late on our first day, had told Donna and even though it was late she was there to greet us and help with our luggage. The room was spotless and the view over the estuary beautiful. Breakfast was delicious with thick bacon and sausage from a local butchers. What we both liked was the attentiveness that Donna gave us and other customers staying there. She would also call each of us by our fist names. Something that just made the stay a bit more personal. Will definitely be staying there again. Location was excellent and the fact we had a parking permit for parking just over the road just ticked every box. Thank you Donna

Dorothy (8/5): Very good - Staff extremely helpful and friendly, went out of the way to ensure we were happy. Great breakfast . Great view from bedroom window. Excellent location. Room very small and didn't have a proper wardrobe, more like a cupboard. We didn't realise when we booked how steep the access to the hotel was.
Mike (7/5): Would not stay again, because of below comments. - Good location, very clean, pleasant host, good breakfast. Water entering the wash baisin was noisy and quite low pressure. Room was a bit cramped. Parking ok only for a small car.
Geoff (10/5): - Donna was an amazing host who provided an excellent breakfast each morning and went out of her way to make our stay very pleasant. The view from our room was delightful. The stairs were a challenge for two elderly people with luggage.

Wynne (8/5): The view + the food will delight you + you'll feel looked after with consideration & kindness - Donna & her husband/partner were absolutely lovely people, & friendly, kind hosts, very good at relating to their guests, always checking if there's any more they can do for us, often went over & above expectations - e.g. giving us free chilled water bottles, & preparing a particular drink to be ready for one of us for when we returned mid afternoon. They listened to their guests' comments + responded quickly + well. The breakfasts are delicious - home cooked & cooked really well. +The view from the breakfast room is fantastic. The only thing was that we'd been expecting a slightly larger room, but Donna's personality +kindness as a host +the beauty of the location more than made up for that.
