• Emily (10/5): Perfect stay, it was the highlight of our trip in Japan! I wish we could of stayed longer as we loved it so much - The staff were so so kind and lovely. It was my birthday during the stay and the staff made me origami as a present! The hotel was in such a beautiful location and the food was some of the best we had during our whole holiday. Every meal we had there was exceptional, I would highly recommend including breakfast and dinner in your stay. It was such a relaxing, warming experience and I left feeling uplifted from the kindness and good sense of humour of the staff. There are lovely walks all around the hotel, with lots of temples also very close. It is in such beautiful scenery it was incredible. There was also a free shuttle bus down the mountain which was very helpful. We stayed for 2 nights and wished we stayed for longer! Nothing!

Hospitality and a peaceful atmosphere made us feel truly cared. - During our stay, my mom and I truly experienced what authentic Japanese hospitality feels like. Even before we arrived, we could already sense the care from the staff, especially in how they helped us figure out the best way to get to the hotel. On our first night, our taxi driver accidentally dropped us off at the wrong hotel because I had entered an unclear drop-off location in the GO app. It was late and we were in a mountain area, but the staff kindly came to pick us up and quickly drove us back to the correct hotel. We were so grateful for their help. The next morning left a lasting impression on us. The dining hall overlooked the mountains and river, with sunlight streaming through the large windows. Guests quietly enjoyed a homemade Japanese breakfast, creating a peaceful and warm atmosphere. The staff welcomed us with genuine kindness, and every dish was delicious, even the steamed rice stood out. Whenever we had questions about transportation, the staff were always there to assist us. Their attentiveness made us feel truly cared for, which meant so much, especially while traveling overseas without knowing anyone. I only wish I had brought a small gift to express my gratitude. Next time, if I have a chance to visit Kyoto again, I will definitely remember to bring a token of appreciation. While the hotel has a charming atmosphere, some of the facilities feel a little dated. As someone who is sensitive to lighting, I personally prefer warmer tones, so I think slightly softer, warmer lighting in the hallways could make the space feel even cozier and more in harmony with the beautiful surroundings outside.

The traditional dinner and breakfast were both amazing and a highlight of our trip. The complimentary shuttle bus to the JR line was also a very thoughtful and convenient addition.

The hosting was superb and we appreciated the free shuttle to the station At first sight the hotel looks a little shabby, although the location is amazing next to the river.

• Gaia (8/5): - La ubicación del hotel nos gustó mucho, casi en pleno bosque, unos parajes preciosos, pudimos darnos un buen paseo no obstante el frío y yo visité el templo cercano por la mañana. El agua del río es perfectamente transparente y el bosque muy oscuro, una naturaleza sobrecogedora. La cena y el desayuno estupendos, servidos de manera impecable y de calidad superior. La amabilidad de las señoras que gestionan el hotel absolutamente impecable. Nosotros decidimos llegar en taxi y a la vuelta nos dejaron en una estación de tren muy cómoda ya dentro de la ciudad de Kyoto, así que fenomenal. Aunque a mi parecer necesita alguna renovación, lo recomiendo por ubicación, comida y trato del personal. Fuimos en marzo con temperaturas todavía muy bajas y el baño de la habitación estaba helado. Se nota que necesita renovación, las instalaciones son antiguas. Al final me duché en el baño público, que afortunadamente acepta personas tatuadas, por temas de temperatura. Además dejamos encendida la calefacción por aire toda la noche y así no tuvimos fríos al dormir. Si vas en invierno, recomiendo usar esta estrategia! A causa de estos detalles, creo que una estancia larga se nos habría hecho menos agradable. Como estuvimos solo un día, pues finalmente todo bien.

• Zachary (10/5): This is the place to go if you’re willing to spend a little extra for a truly special experience - Absolutely stunning location! A bit out of the city but not terribly far and so worth it. Really nothing bad I can say about the place: staff were terrific, the rooms were beautiful and comfortable, and the food was tremendous! Dinners were a little more expensive than I’d have liked, but the food and service was so good that I can’t say it wasn’t worth it.

The staff were friendly and always ready to help us with anything we needed - from recommending attractions to giving us a lift. The perfect ryokan if you want a quiet, nature-filled getaway. The facilities, including the onsen, are a little old but serve their purposes well; the futons are very comfortable and there's plenty to explore inside and beyond the place.

• Mirana (10/5): A beautiful, traditional mountain hotel with exceptional staff and home-cooked meals — truly a 10/10 - The hotel was incredibly welcoming, especially for our late arrival, and the staff went out of their way to help with parking, check-in, and our baby. Our room was spacious and beautifully traditional with tatami floors, futons, low table, slippers, and bathrobes. The in-room dinner was fantastic, home-cooked with plenty of options, and the staff were attentive, kind, and spoke excellent English. Communication before and after our stay was fast and helpful. Our stay was very short and we didn’t take advantage of the onsen, breakfast, or the full hotel experience — any limitations were entirely due to our schedule, not the property.
• Diego Fernando (10/5): - Es muy tradicional, el personal es increíblemente amable, la dueña nos atendió súper bien y las camareras son súper agradables, con los yukatas y el menú de la cena y del desayuno se sintió todo muy auténtico Talvez está un poco alejado de la ciudad pero puedes llegar en autobús y está a 10min o menos de la estación, además siempre se ofrecían para recogernos y llevarnos al hotel desde la estación, y al hacer el check-out tienen un bus propio que te llevan a la estación de tren.

• Edoardo (10/5): Un posto Incantato - scoprire un giappone non turistico nella natura con percorsi passeggiate e templi. indimenticabile. dormire in una stanza tipica giapponese è stato bellissimo. stanza con vista sul ponte arancione stupenda la posizione della struttura è un po’ remota e se come noi non amate gli autobus dovrete spendere 60 euro al giorno circa per andare e tornare da kyoto con il taxi ma ne è valsa la pena. i pasti nella struttura sono molto tipici quindi poco occidentali come sapori. non per tutti.

• Olena (4/5): Beautiful nature, great people but a very old property - It is a family run hotel and the people who run it are very friendly and wonderful. The people are really the best part of the stay. They came out to wave good bye to us when we got on the shuttle back to Arashiyama. The 10 course kaiseki was truely wonderful, it is one of the best we had. The breakfast was also 10 out of 10. Bedding was clean and comfortable. (traditional style on the floor) The surrounding nature and trails are great (they are steep steps to be aware of, not relaxing hiking trails). Being by the river is very relaxing. There is also a small kids play room with toys and pretend theatre we enjoyed a lot. Unfortunately, the property is very run down, this made the stay non comfortable. It was a striking contrast compared to everywhere else in Japan we stayed. There is no investment into renovation or making the rooms/washrooms/onsen comfortable. Things were old, there was unpleasant smell in the bathrooms/onsen. The feeling of the property being neglected felt strange to us and we did not receive what we were hoping for - a comfortable, pleasant stay at a traditional ryokan. The location is far from Arashiyama (20 min by taxi), so if the goal is to explore Arashiyama, we suggest staying in Arashiyama directly. The hotel did provide a free shuttle bus back and offered a free pick up at the bus station. There was also a large bug that came through the window that we chased all night - he kept coming back - but you are in the nature.

The gentleman at the front desk gave us really good advise on where to visit to avoid crowds. Views were spectacular and the food was delicious. We had a great stay! Public bath could use some updating but was still functional.

It is easily accessible from Kyoto Station by a direct bus (~50mn), and a hotel shuttle picked us up at the bus stop for the remaining short distance. Note: The hosts provided us with detailed information about the different ways to access the hotel. They also responded efficiently and quickly to all our questions during trip preparation. The hotel is situated in a quiet, secluded area, which was very peaceful after experiencing the bustling life of Tokyo and Osaka. Just behind the hotel, there is access to a site with magnificent temples and a viewpoint overlooking the mountains, we were almost alone there, a stark contrast to Kyoto’s other crowded sites. The staff are extremely attentive and kind, we greatly appreciated their warm welcome and excellent service throughout our stay. We also loved the authentic experience, including the provision of yukata robes, the ryokan’s public baths, and the meals (dinner and breakfast), which were outstanding and full of new discoveries. The hotel retains its original character, likely dating from the 1960s or 70s, but it was very clean and had a certain charm. We only have one regret: not having spent more time at this establishment.

The hotel staff is one of the nicest and friendliest I have ever come across. The rooms have a really authentic vibe, and I slept so good in the fresh air and the sound of the river. Personalet var en smule pågående til vores smag, og - Stedet er meget autentisk, og lever op til hvad der forventes ved et ryokan. Stedet dufter af historie. Lokationen er helt vidunderlig, og har anledning til at gå nogle skønne ture. Størstedelen af personalet er ekstremt søde og hjælpsomme. Lokalerne man overnatter i er fantastisk flotte, og har en skøn udsigt til det flotte område. Personalet er meget til stede, og kan være lidt indtrængende, og indgribende i ens ophold. Det er ikke ualmindeligt at de f.eks. bruger fingrene og rør ved ens mad under måltider, eller fortæller en hvilken anretning man bør spise først. Vi var desværre uheldige at opleve en del uro ved aftensmad, da der blev holdt en større fest ved siden af hvor vi spiste - personalet var dog undskyldende, men ikke desto mindre påvirkede det. Er man der i køligere måneder, kan man ikke sidde udenfor, på trods af at vejret kunne være til det.
• Prue (8/5): A welcoming stay in a truly beautiful location. - Takeo Kanko is in a truly beautiful location. We loved hearing the river flowing from our room and looking out on a view of trees and river. The rooms were traditional tatami rooms and the beds were very comfortable. It was easy to relax and unwind here. The staff were all fabulous, making us feel so welcome. It's a little slice of paradise. Being able to sit by the river to dine was an absolute treat. Highly recommend walking up the long and winding stairway behind the accomodation to the Jingo-ji temple and taking in the view of the valley from the observation point. It is magic. The building is dated and a bit musty but it's all part of the charm.

Nos recogieron en la parada de autobús para llevarnos al hotel y luego te dejan en la estación JR. No es que no me gustara porque sabes que es mas tradicional que un hotel convencional. No dispone de ascensores pero el personal te sube y baja el equipaje. Soy una persona de 185cm y me costaba acceder al lavabo y baño de la habitación ya que las puertas eran un poco bajas y estrechas. Pero repito no es un inconveniente, es una experiencia que repetiría.

• Nicoleta (6/5): Time travel experience - The Ryokan is a great experience, but this one is very, very, very old. There has not been made any renovation or improvement in at least 30 years. The food was good but very expensive! Bad smell in the room, I got instant allergies. The bathroom is old and the Onsen is unusable due to the fact that is looks old and rather dirty.
