Great location to explore Lake Windermere.
- LINDA (6/5): Low beams in bedroom - Bedroom had a massive wooden beam across the bedroom restricting head room. We are only short it still meant that we had to duck our heads when getting out of bed. Narrow stairs up to our bedroom. Reviews said food was excellent but was adverage.

Breakfast was excellent in terms of quantity and quality, again with very friendly service. The only slight negative that I had was, what I assume was air freshener, was very overpowering and unpleasant.

We were in the area early and asked if we could check in early - staff accommodated us. Tom was lovely and clean. Staff were kind, friendly and made us feel at home. We were so impressed we had dinner - great local food and a great range of drinks in the bar. Bar was frequented by regulars who were friendly and keen to point out their favourite menu choices. The bar is dog friendly, however the restaurant side is dog free if you want a quieter break. They be around 12 different beers. All are so good we bought bottles for find and family. We will be back.

- sadhna (10/5): Fabulous place, perfect for dog owners - What a fabulous place and just a couple of miles out of Windermere. The Inn has a great atmosphere and the speciality ales are just what you need after along day of hiking. The rooms are great, superclean and very comfortable. To top it all, the cooked breakfasts in the morning were both hearty and delicious. Thr staff were also super helpful too. This was the first time we have stayed here but will definitely come again. Would highly recommend, especially perfect for dog owners.

- Jean (6/5): Lovely Inn - Shame about the service! - At first sight the place looked lovely. We arrived mid afternoon. There was a roaring fire, the girls behind the bar were very friendly, and the next morning, breakfast was great. But that evening, we went up to our rooms at about 5:30, and noticed that it was cold, and that the radiators were off. I went downstairs, and reported it to a girl working in the restaurant. She said she would ‘boost’ it, and that the radiators were on a timer. Nothing happened, and an hour later, we had to leave for our family do, just out of Kendal. We left the function early, so that we could get back, and have a drink or two before going to bed. We returned to the Inn just after 10, and it was dark, and everything was locked up, including our access to the bar. Bear in mind that this was a Saturday night. We had no choice, but to go to our rooms, which were still cold. I don’t think the radiators had been on at all, but there was no one to tell, or to help. This really spoilt our evening, and the women in the room next to ours, said that they slept fully clothed! We went to an Inn, because we thought that they would be open until 11 on a Saturday night, otherwise we would have stayed longer at the family function. If they had staff problems, then they should have told residents when they arrived! I complained to one of the breakfast people in the morning, and they said that the owners would be in touch. It’s now a week later, and I’ve heard nothing! Unacceptable!
- Nigel (10/5): Lovely friendly place to stay - One of our go to places when up in Kendal for business. Clean & friendly and a good choice of things on the menu. Food is delicious! Only downfall we had was we booked a certain table for dinner one evening and one member of staff had moved us and was quite rude about it! Original table was empty the whole time we were in the restaurant! Wouldn’t have minded if she had been polite and explained why the move had been made!

The staff were amazing with us and I cannot compliment the bar staff or chefs enough. Would go back tomorrow would give it 6/5 it it were possible to rate it that highly

- Scott (6/5): Below average for price - Breakfast doesn’t start until 8:30…. Absolutely no use at all if you’re working or want to get out and about. Room 6 was very cramped and with it being on the top floor the ceiling tapered off due to the roof to the extent where you were bent double. Bathroom was small and has a radiator above the toilet positioned just right to hit your head on as you stand up. Meal was very good in the evening. Definitely not worth the money charged.

- Tracy (8/5): Disappointing Room - I’d firstly like to say the staff were fantastic and the food was great, breakfast options are a big plus. The issue was the room. Rooms 5 and 6 are loft rooms, so even though the square footage seems reasonable, the amount of space you can uses is limited. My husband 5ft 8” kept hitting his head on the beam and hitting his leg on the bed. The shower is extremely small unless you’re a size 6. The room was dated and not in a great state of repair. Being in the loft it was far too hot, especially if you’re travelling with a dog. Overlooking the car park and the main road, it was quite noisy with the windows open. There was no fridge to keep dog food cool. If we could’ve found another room somewhere else when we arrived, we would have taken it. Bowness and Ambleside were beautiful and fortunately overrode any disappointment with the room. Sorry, really wanted to love it.

- stephen (10/5): Very good stay. Quiet yet easy access to main lkes - Great homely pub where you are welcomed in and have a good resturant on site with delicious range of local ales and a warm fire. Breakfast excellent. Bus from a stop 2 mins walk away runs all day and into the late evening taking you pretty much anywhere in the lakes with great scenery to see on route.

Their COVID rules were laughable, wanting us to strip the bedding and bag it but not even cleaning and sanitizing tables between bookings in the pub. Won’t be back.

- Alan (6/5): - Unfortunate arrival on 26 December. Hotels.com had neither notified Hotel of our arrival nor that we had paid! Watermill Inn nevertheless booked us in. Accommodation simple but room 6, where we were, and room 5 have a very low beam which is only 5 feet above the floor! Can bump one's head! Staff friendly.

Arrived on Fri night b4 Christmas (black eye Fri), the pub & restaurant was packed, but nevertheless given a nice room 1. Very well kept & homey country side atmosphere. Had fish & chip w beef pie. Both items are excellent! Courteous service staff despite full house in restaurants. Breakfast cook to order 8:30 to 9:30 w allocated table nicely prepared. Very satisfied w full course british BF. Chatted w the gentleman inn keeper, who apologize for not able to greet us during check in due to packed pub night. Only gripe is double bed mattress is way too soft, single bed is good. Value for $ on service & lake district country side experience. If u looking for authentic british country side inn & pub (ie not the touristy type), this is it. Will stay again, but will ask for firmer bed.
