Guest Reviews
- Sylvia (10/5): A great short stay option - My husband and I come to London each year for a shopping trip, and Rockwell East is now our favourite base. This was our second stay and it was just as good as the first! The accommodation is local to both Aldgate and Tower Bridge Tube stations. Our one-bedroom apartment was spotless, with a comfy bed, snug bedding, great temperature control and a well-equipped kitchen for when we wanted to self-cater. The bathroom had fluffy towels, bathrobes and basic but nice toiletries — everything we needed. A lovely perk this year was the free breakfast: a small but tasty buffet with cooked options, pastries, hams, cheese, fruit juice, tea and coffee. Special thanks to Nas at reception, who recognised us from last year and made us feel genuinely welcome. Rockwell East is clean, comfortable, well-located and great value. Highly recommend!
- Karen (8/5): - The room was awesome with everything we needed to cook at night and do some washing. The bathroom was clean, the bed very comfortable. There was a good range of cooked and cold breakfast options. The young lady providing service at the breakfast area was hard working and very accommodating to any requests. She was busy working all the time at restocking food, drinks and crockery/cutlery. The area was very convenient location to all the sites. We were able to walk by foot, tube or bus depending on what we were visiting.
- Wajiha (10/5): - This was a great location and was close to multiple train stations to get me everywhere I needed to go. The apartment was large and amazing value compared to all the other shoe box hotels on offer. The staff here were amazing and extra helpful to everything I needed. I would definitely stay here again and recommend to all my friends coming to London.
- Jerome (6/5): - No breakfast was served.
- LILIA CONSUELO (10/5): - The room was very nice and spacious. Very quiet perfect for a nice sleep after a long day. The staff were nice, friendly and helpful. One nice access is how easy is tk access rhe building once you are checkin. The breakfast was really good and fresh and the breakfast lady was really kind. One of the best stays for this area of london.
- Sachi (10/5): - It was excellent location and comfortable room. Only thing that there is no housekeeper available for 24 hours.
- Grant (8/5): London calling - Good location, good sized room, clean and convenient
- Tom (10/5): Short London stay - Amazing location, chose for proximity to London city airport and Shoreditch, only negative is the check in and out times but room was bright and spacious - had bath robes that felt like a nice touch
- Samantha (10/5): Comfortable stay - The room was comfortable, modern, bright, quiet and clean, and had everything we needed. Bed was very comfortable. We asked for non-feather pillows/duvet which were provided.
Bad points: Only one towel was provided for the shower which wasn’t ideal: I’m sure they’d have given us another if we’d asked but we didn’t have time, so just shared one. There was some chipped/scruffy paint above the worktop which was a shame as it’d be very easy to tidy this up. Also, the housekeeping knocked on the door just before 10am which I thought was a bit much. We were just about to leave anyway. No non-dairy milk was available for drinks.
- Andre (10/5): - Amazing cost benefit, well located, the studio was perfect. Just the toilet was weird because it looks like an hospital bathroom.
- Angus (6/5): - Great location - on busy road so you do get traffic and nearby railway noise if you have windows open.
- Paul (8/5): Minor issues, otherwise a good stay - We had a couple of issues with the property.
Firstly, apparently there was no air conditioning on the 8th floor (we were room 803). This means the temperature In the room was 26 degrees. We had been told there should be a fan in the room, but there wasn't. Luckily we could open the windows. But or course streets in the middle of London are never quiet.
We also found there was a green light about the door to the room that we could find no way of turning off, while this was likely a safety light of some sort, it meant that we had both a noisy room and a green light cast over half or the room!
Luckily comfortable beds and tired travellers meant we did sleep well.
But probably not putting us in a room that lacked air conditioning would have helped.
- jimi (10/5): - I liked the area and the rooms were very clean and just nice
- Gemma (10/5): - Fantastic stay at Rockwell East. Close to station and local attractions. Lots of places to eat nearby. Pub right opposite. Cannot fault it, highly recommend!
- mbC3940RQ (2/5): Rockwell East was not helpful at all! - Under no circumstances should you stay at this hotel if you expect any type of flight delays.
My flight to London was delayed by 24 hours, making me not arriving to the hotel until day 2 of a 3 day stay, missing my event in London, along with the hotel nights.
I worked with American Express travel, who called over several days to explain to the hot that I would not be able to make the reservation. They denied a refund of almost $700, saying their policy requires 48 hours notice. There was no way to know in advance that my flight would bump me, missing the reservation.
Even with proof of the flight being delayed, management was not concerned at all.
It’s worth your money and time to stay somewhere else.
- Aidan (10/5): - Great stay in a perfect location to see some landmarks. Pubs, bars and restaurants all in walking distance and staff were extremely friendly.
Rooms were also in great condition
- Claudia (6/5): -
The overall stay was just okay.
The room is only cleaned every three days. When I asked about having my garbage removed, I was told to take it outside to the bin on the street myself — not what I would expect.
There are a few staff members who go above and beyond and are genuinely helpful, but others seem uninterested and look the other way. Breakfast is also disappointing; once items run out, they are not replenished.
Get there early
Overall, not very impressive.
Just ok !
- Verified traveler (10/5): Clean and very comfortable - Overall stay was excellent and room was very clean, comfortable and with good amenities.
- Elaine (10/5): - Great apart-hotel, always friendly helpful staff. Such good value, you get a good sized studio apartment for a very reasonable price, cheaper than some hotels that aren’t nearly as well designed and decorated!
- Helen (10/5): - Helpful staff and lovely room in great location for the city
- Amanda (10/5): Great stay - Great location, clean apartment, friendly staff. Nice breakfast,
- Evan (10/5): - Great room. Great staff. Affordable
- Renee (10/5): - Great property. Staff is nice and friendly. Clean and safe. Close to public transportation.
- Peter (8/5): - The aparthotel was excellent, but the cooked items for breakfast were only luke warm bordering cold
- Verified traveler (10/5): Room stay timing - It's really very amazing for the family..only the check in and check out time usually 12 to 12 but this place is 3 pm to 10 am apart from everything is good..nice stay
- Craig (10/5): - Great set up for apartment stay! Spacious and everything provided.
- Elizabeth (4/5): Aircon broke, poor. - Apartment was tired and needed to be painted, peeling paint and scuffs everywhere. Aircon didn’t work at all, it was set to 19 and the room temp was 29. They provided two small fans which created NO breeze just very very loud. Clearly knew aircon didn’t work so you shouldn’t advertise this as an amenity. 3pm check in and 10am check out is so poor. Such limited time actually in the room. No asking of how the stay was at check out. Cheap & good location but not good room.
- T8069OSamandaf (2/5): Air Conditioning broken and no alternative room or compensation offered - I stayed in Room 408 on 8th August. I was advised there was a problem on the 8th floor with the air conditioning and if I emailed Reservations they would offer some form of compensation. They have not responded or acknowledge my feedback. It's a shame they've let themselves down as I've stayed here previously and it's been fine. The phone number on the website is invalid too.
- ROSE (10/5): - Close to everything. A very nice worker helped me get an Uber who was lost. He was so kind and professional. Tell him thank you from the women who were just in Kenya.
- Kevin (10/5): - The extra space and kitchen of the aparthotel was much better than a hotel room.
- Daniel (2/5): - Aircon did not work and windows did not open. Couldn’t stay. Have complained but been ignored.
- Iris (10/5): Will be back! - The faculty at this hotel were always friendly and able to assist. The apartment itslef was clean and comfortable. If you're looking for somewhere to say by some attractions for a good value this is the place.
- Gerardo (6/5): - I was given a handicap room, I didn’t ask for it and I wasn’t impressed. They offered another room, but when I entered with a key, it was occupied! I was finally offered an empty room but spent most of my afternoon handling this issue. I have stayed there many times and loved it. Not anymore.
- James (6/5): - Unfortunately there was no air conditioning on my floor. This was not communicated when I checked in unfortunately, and only apparent after I had unpacked. Typically it was 33 degrees in London on the day.
- Natalie (10/5): - Great location friendly staff
- Cecilia (10/5): - The room was big and clean
- Alicia (10/5): - It was really nice! And it’s definitely come back again! I have nothing bad to say
- Georgia (10/5): - Great Location and like an apartment!
- Joseph (10/5): - Excellent across the board
- Lydia (10/5): Faultless stay, will be back - We had a great stay here, reception staff were friendly, the place was immaculate and such a reasonable price for central London. We’ll definitely look at booking here next time we’re in London.
- Ashley (10/5): - Great for the tube, the train, or walking about!
- Paul (6/5): Don’t forget your ID - computed says no reception - Check in diabolical - no clear notice of need for ID in advance, reception unable to explain why they needed it and it took me 30 minutes to check in after an exhausting day traveling with no flexibility offered to fix the situation by the front desk.
Room is great, clean and everything else good
- jaclyn (10/5): - great location, clean and helpful staff
- Amy (6/5): - The location was very good, good transport links nearby. we stayed for three nights and our accommodation was never cleaned and it wasn't particularly clean when we got there. This was probably the only downfall as everything else was actually really good
- David (10/5): - The room had everything we needed. Appears to be recently refreshed. Close to the Tower Hill underground station and the Tower of London.
- Khoirunzaim (10/5): - The property was super comfortable as well as the receptionist 10/10 attitude nicest person i met in london
- Joseph (10/5): - Great property, Amazing room
- Azim (8/5): - Like others have mentioned there is some noise from the railway line, AC was a bit finicky, but we had a bice view. Brekky at the weatherspoons accross the road is better value than in the hotel. Also they wouldn't let us check in early, and they are stricy about the 10am checkout time. In this case for a one night stay you just get 19hrs not the best value.
- Silvia (10/5): - The property was very clean. However, we found it a bit tricky to locate the hotel as there are no large signs outside. The nearest station is Tower Hill, which is about a 7-minute walk away. We were pleasantly surprised to find that our room was very spacious and very clean, with plenty of windows (we were on the top floor). It included a small fridge, an oven, and a washing machine (though there was no dryer).
The hotel is situated next to train tracks, but we could hardly hear any noise from the trains. The air conditioning in our room worked great. The hotel’s location is excellent; it’s just a 10-minute walk to the Tower of London and 7 minutes to the subway station.
The staff at the reception desk were very polite and helpful. One thing I noticed is that there’s no phone in the room to call reception. You either have to use your personal phone or go downstairs to speak to them. We would definitely stay here again!
- Donita (10/5): - 5 stars all round
- Guy (2/5): Cold showers! - No hot water for two of the three days we stayed there. Talked to the front desk several times and everyone their response was they have someone working on it. We received no compensation for this inconvenience. Very dissatisfied!!
- cindir732 (2/5): No hot water, only cold showers - We stayed at this hotel three days. The first two days we had no hot water and when I spoke to the front desk we were told they were “working on resetting the boiler”. So for two days we took cold showers. I have emailed the hotel manager/customer service three times and received absolutely no response or compensation. Very disappointed!
- Travelbirdtalks (10/5): Clean, safe , nice - I was alone so i wanted a safe place to stay and also wanted to cook for myself
It was so nice room with nice furniture , so clean staff was so helpful and friendly
There was a nice restaurant just opposite the apart hotel.
I like being walking distance to Tower Bridge
Also it was easy to reach london excel
I recommended
- Nicolette (6/5): Good location, great apartment but breakfast poor. - Good location and apartment was lovely, airy and well equipped. Reception staff were pleasant and helpful. Breakfast area far too small with limited choices and cooked food was sub standard. No fruit, orange juice or flavoured yoghurts available.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice place but avoid breakfast! - Positive:
Room great
people nice,
location easy
Negatives:
near DLR so the hotel can physically shake when a train goes past!
Breakfast is rubbish, go round the corner to Pret!
- ELIZABETH (10/5): Great Stay! - This place was genuinely awesome. It was very clean, had every apart-hotel amenity you could want (washing machine, dishwasher, oven, microwave, etc.) and felt very secure. It's within a 10 minute walk to the tube and the Tower. I couldn't recommend it highly enough.
- Rhia (10/5): - Lovely accommodation - clean, new and renovated, and nice comfy bed.
Only annoying thing was not being able to connect to Netflix or Prime on a smart TV. But not the be all and end all.
- Natasha (10/5): 10/10 stay - First time staying at this hotel and we’ll definitely be back! Clean, great location and lovely, helpful front desk staff.
- Azita (8/5): - Had a nice time staying tbere
- Riis (8/5): - Great value, the location is not to be best but great value for the price
- Jahnavi (10/5): - Great location. Walking distance to quite a few main areas - Liverpool Street, Fenchurch Street, Tower of London, Tower Hill, Shoreditch. Rooms are spacious and clean. Hotel staff are friendly
- Lynn (10/5): - Ive stayed a number of times, reception staff are great, safe, clean great location everything i need for a few days away with work.
- Mischa G (8/5): - Good aparthotel. I did have some trouble with the washer/drying stopping mid cycle which presented some challenges for managing clean clothes.
Also missed that there were no gym facilities, which were definitely missed.
- Paul (10/5): - Excellent room very close to Tower of London. Terrific kitchen and comfortable bed. Staff were very friendly and breakfast delicious.
- Alejandro (10/5): - Great
- Jose (8/5): - Overall good stay. comfortable bed and friendly staff. DIdn't love having to pay 75 GBP to check in early but other than that I would recommend
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great stay! - Fantastic, airy and spacious-feeling studio with facilities to prepare basic meals, do laundry and relax in comfort. Access to DLR, tube, several convenience stores and eating options are all within a few hundred metres. Staff are friendly and helpful. The kitchen included an oven but no ovenproof dishes, and the drying cycle on the washing machine left our items very damp; minor inconveniences. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here on a return trip to London.
- Muhammad (4/5): - Location and property condition was good. However, staff isn't empathetic. Check in - check out procedure is very rigid and can' t accommodate human condition. I was tired and wanted to check in early. They kept asking for money for early check-in. I.e. 25 pound per hour. Similarly, normally we checkout at 12, they have set it up at 10 and asked for Money to check out later than 10.
- Rebecca (10/5): - Another great stay here. The staff are always helpful and friendly, the rooms always clean and a super spot to stay in an apartment with all your needs at a reasonable price.
Stayed here 4:5 times now and never disappointed!
- kendrick (10/5): - Really liked this stay
- Christopher (8/5): - Good stay (again). Great property & handy location but they need to sort out the air con - it never works and you can’t open windows to cool room down as the railway is too noisy, even at night.
- Tammi (6/5): - The bed was EXTREMELY UNCOMFORTABLE!!!!!! It was literally like a board with some cushion on it. I thought I might have pressure point wounds when I woke up lol. Otherwise the place was clean and convenient. A restaurant and a tesco across the street, starbucks a block away and several restaurants in walking distance. Walked from the tower train station and it was 25 mins. The staff was friendly. Maybe it's a European thing...the hard-as-board bed? I wouldn't stay here again because of the beds.
- MURRAY (10/5): - Handy location. Good facilities. Great value for central London.
- Archit (8/5): - This was a great property to stay. Very close to Tower of London and Tower Bridge. Since its an apartment, you feel at home. I would recommend this place for your London stay.
- Ka Chun (8/5): - Overall is excellent. The room is spacious, clean, bright. The staff is nice. The hotel is located right outside the "congestion zone" so that we can park our car next to a public car park next to the hotel. However, we wish that the hotel room can provide us with some water bottles.
- Rhys (8/5): Nice modern apartments - Apartment nice, well appointed and quality furnishings, toiletries, etc.
Dropped a star due to check-in. The door is not particularly obvious, and also permanently locked and requires you to buzz to be let in until you get your keycard, which was a bit irritating, and would have been worse if raining on arrival.
Otherwise a nice quiet stay
- gordonm848 (8/5): Snug in the city - When traveling alone for business, I yearn to find somewhere cosy, with a bit of personality and a warm welcome. This aparthotel is charming and fulfills the brief on many levels. I stayed on the fourth floor, overlooking the busy junction in front of the hotel. I slept well in the comfortable bed and spacious room, despite the busy trainlines a few metres away. The occasional car horn and obnoxious motor bike means this isn't a pace for long lies - but this is central London. The room itself has many windows and is flooded with natural light in morning - there is no better way to wake up. And if you don't want to make your own breakfast, a simple selection is available behind reception. All in all, easy to recommend!
- camillus (4/5): So and so - Mattress was superhard. Shower had hardly any water and no way to regulate the temperature. Room was spacious that was good.
- Alison (8/5): - Always a nice reception when I stay at Rockwell
- Alison (8/5): - All good with Rockwell if you need good quality affordable accommodation close to Tower Hill and the city
- Laura (10/5): - Incredible experience in the studio apartment. Loads of space and amenities. Excellent location walkable distance to at least 4 different tube stops and lovely area to stay. Will definitely book again for my next visit
- Barbro (10/5): Great stay in Tower Bridge - Great stay. Reception staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Room was great and location perfect.
- Kerstin (8/5): - Good ventilation, good and safe to have a 24 hrs recepton (but no help with calling a taxi in the morning). Well planned studio.
- 948rebeccam (10/5): Highly recommend - I’ve stayed here twice now and had a great experience. I’ve even booked another two stays. The rooms are so clean and have a great kitchen area so you can be as self sufficient as you want. Robes are provided so it’s great to relax after your shower and the beds are so comfy. Reception are really friendly and Tee has made me feel so welcome both stays. It’s really close to the tube station so easy to get around, there’s a Wetherspoons across the road and 3 supermarkets within walking distance. Everything you need to enjoy a great stay and if there’s something missing they are always on hand to help. Love it!
- Kayla (4/5): - We didn’t know that cleaning was only every three nights and I didn’t know that the rate was in POUND STERLING. Those were the negatives. I only give this property 2 stars because had I known this at booking, I would have gone with someone else. But because we didn’t know these things, the room was spacious for two, very modern and updated. Also had a kitchenette and the bed was comfy. I also really liked the location. It is next to a corner store and also close Tower Bridge and great along with bus and train transportation. These were actually really great. Lastly, this hotel was 1 hour and 22 min from Heathrow. Hope you enjoy your London trip.
- Roger (8/5): Great place shame about the trains. - Great place to stay, clean spacious and nice rooms. Unfortunately the room had 3 windows overlooking the train tracks which are noisy, but that's London.
- Happiness44092132458 (2/5): Noisy by train tracks and bad customer service. - I stayed at this property for 1 night in April
I am a global traveller and stayed in accommodation across the world.
1) I can honestly say. Last night was the worst nights sleep I have ever had in a hotel in my life, firstly not at any point did I know my room would be right on top of train tracks, second the bed was really uncomfortable, not I also had ear plugs in and still could hear trains going by the room.
2) Given the hotel is meant to be new, the room was in pretty bad order - see photos
3) you told me there was no USB charging in the room and I had to bring my own plug. But when I got to the room I saw there was USB charging ports, so I could have saved bringing a plug.
I spoke about my concerns upon check out and experience and was told to email the hotel manager who then offered no kind of compensation for my bad experience.
Please avoid staying at this hotel at all costs.
- Howard (10/5): - Great location
- Oliver (2/5): Terrible Nights sleep and bad customer service. - I stayed at this property for 1 night in April

- Christine (8/5): - Bed comfy & liked that it was a smart tv. Large & spacious , very clean studio.I was asked for passport on arrival , which as a British citizen I didn't have , eventually they said it was ok ..this made me feel uncomfortable. Ask for a room higher up & not facing trains as I had a low down room right next to trains which kept me awake . Apart from the trains the property was very quiet , there were no banging doors or noisy cleaners on corridors . Would have liked windows to have opened for fresh air( especially if cooking )as they were locked & I was told they weren’t allowed to be opened . Was there for 8 days & cleaners did an excellent job when they serviced room half way through my stay , they were very polite & professional. Tv needs to be on an extendable arm so you can pull it out from wall as it was difficult to see fully whilst on sofa . Loved the large bathroom which had a heated towel rail & large shower & lots of space on shelf for toiletries etc. Would be nice if teabags / milks / mini toiletries/ washing machine tablets / loo rolls / tissues were in baskets at reception to help ourselves to when run out or maybe left outside doors each day in a bag as these weren’t topped up .Liked the fact there was a lift . It had more of a rented apartment feel to it than a hotel . Enjoyed my stay .
- Dr. Lawrence (10/5): - Friendly and welcoming. Great value for money.
- Camilla (10/5): 100% recommend - Super clean and spacious room with lovely staff working there
- Alexandra (10/5): - Great place to stay in London!
- Danish (6/5): Disgusting Curtains - Room was pretty decent but the cleanliness of curtains was awful. All curtains had massive stains of surf or something and was not ironed at all. It looked like someone had washed them in home washing machine and just chuck back.
- Kelly (10/5): - This property was amazing had the most relaxing time great kitchen to cook food with dishwasher and washing machine. windows all around/bathroom shower was lovely. Very clean great size studio.
The only issues was at the reception when arriving. Was told you need to have a British passport that my guest wouldn’t be let in because he was from a different country. felt uncomfortable that I had to explain myself to the lady as she said she will refuse him coming in.
this could be a problem if people are traveling from other countries to london to stay if this is the case to clear put this so people will decide if there would still go ahead and book.
Lucky there was a very kind gentleman working also on reception that sorted this issue straight away and was very professional and insured me that there was no problem i was happy that he was there and deal with this.
Overall i was very impressed and happy with the stay will definitely stay again
- Anthony (10/5): - This place was a wonderful value in terms of price for the available amenities. The kitchenette was very functional with all necessary supplies to cook up a simple meal, and the washer/dryer was much appreciated after having been away from home for 5 days. Also, the room was immaculate, with updated fixtures and quality linens. Even though the property is literally right next to an overground train line, the quality dual pane windows and insulation blocked almost all of the noise, so unless you are a really light sleeper, you shouldn't be bothered by it at all. Next time I come to London, I will be very happy to book another stay at Rockwell East.
- Dominic (6/5): Good, noisy, stuffy and must have ID to check-in. - Quite comfortable, lots of space, good location. Bed was okay but quite firm, pillows were too soft and offered no support, shower was temperamental the first day but improved after then. No cooling with aircon so room was quite stuffy, windows did open but its a noisy area so couldn't sleep with the windows open. Didn't bother with breakfast as there's a Wetherspoons across the road. Would probably stay again if the price was right, we payed £280 for 3 nights which was great value but I know others have paid much more. Word of warning you MUST have ID to check-in, most people in the UK don't carry ID, we weren't told about this beforehand and were lucky to have found copies in our emails - the receptionist was very unforgiving and offered no alternative and insisted that this had been communicated beforehand which I can confirm it hadn't otherwise we would have brought ID, it seems a few people had fallen foul of this after us as well, she then forgot to give me my ID back and had to give it back to me the next day. It created such a stressful situation upon arrival, it really put a dampener on our stay - I have no idea what we would've done had we not found copie sof our ID.
- Tom (10/5): Excellent stay - Clean and well serviced room with comfortable bed and non-perfumed towels and bed linen (which is a big plus for us). Good kitchen facilities and washer dryer as well as dishwasher. Could have had instruction manuals for these as not all obvious - thank goodness for google. Good bathroom. Friendly and helpful staff. Great location near public transport. A very very pleasant week and would definitely recommend and stay again.
- Rebecca (10/5): Really great find! - I was very happy with this apartment - really clean and comfortable. Pub directly across the road for breakfast and 5 mins away from the tube. Asked for a kettle as only coffee pod machine in flat and was delivered next morning. I would like an iron in the wardrobe and some additional kitchen tools as cutlery and pans are supplied but no utensils. All in all a great find though and I’ve already booked to return another 3 times.
- Phoenix (10/5): Amazing!! - Absolutely amazing will definitely be staying here again the hotel was brilliant especially having a mini kitchen was a bonus
