The bathroom was bigger than expected and very nice. The house was beautiful and the outdoor space was so peaceful.
Jen was so knowledgeable about the area and had so many amazing recommendations of all sorts of things to do. From food to hiking, entertainment, museums, towns, etc.
Breakfast was great both mornings we were there and the coffee was delicious.
We will definitely be back again!

- Rachelle (10/5): Great Stay at the Black Walnut - My husband and I just had a wonderful 2-night stay at The Black Walnut. It was our first experience at a Bed & Breakfast and not knowing what to expect we were very pleasantly surprised. The hospitality provided by Jen, the innkeeper, was top notch as she was incredibly friendly and full of great information and local tips. Her homemade breakfast each morning was delicious, and the room and bathroom were very clean and well appointed. We would absolutely stay here again if in the area!

Jen est aux petits soins avec ses invités et s’assure que tout est à notre satisfaction. En ce qui a trait au petit déjeuner servi, un vrai délice! Nous recommandons fortement cet endroit, à proximité de tout!

- Alexa (10/5): - The Black Walnut Inn is the cutest/quaintest place to stay in the fingerlakes. Jen’s breakfast each morning was AMAZING and she had absolutely wonderful recommendations for local wineries, breweries, and places to grab a snack. The Inn is beautiful and very clean. I would recommend this Inn to everyone and anyone!! Absolutely made our stay in the Fingerlakes!!

- Verified traveler (10/5): - My partner and I had a Wonderful stay! The Black Walnut Inn is beautiful , conveniently located and Jenn the owner was a very gracious host! She recommended some wonderful places to visit . Breakfast was delicious both days, beds very comfortable and the bathrooms were spotless and very well appointed. We can’t wait to return , and explore the area even more, and we will definitely stay again .
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Jen is wonderful and extremely engaging. Gave us great recommendations for food, drinks and things to do.
- Zayta (10/5): Great find in the Finger Lakes! - Jen, who recently took over as the new owner, was AMAZING! She’s extremely knowledgeable of the area – thankfully, because we showed up with no plans for our weekend. We also knew nothing about wine, and she was great about asking questions and helping us plan. Her breakfasts were incredible as well – really tasty and filling. We especially loved her homemade granola! The area is fantastic – it’s close to many wineries, breweries, restaurants, and trails, all within the beautiful Finger Lakes region. Finally, the Black Walnut Bed and Breakfast itself was such a cozy place. The beds are really comfortable, there’s a lot of room, easy access to any necessities/desires, and it has a great back porch (we loved sitting out there and reading)! Very excited to get back to the area not only for the wine, but for another great stay at the Black Walnut Bed and Breakfast!
- Sue (10/5): - I liked how the property was in very good proximity to a lot of the different attractions in the area including lakes, hiking trails and wineries. Jen was a very gracious host, always attending to our needs, explained everything we needed to know about our stay and the food was yummy!
- Gerry (10/5): - The Inn is very quaint and homy. Our hostess and owner of the Inn is hospitable, friendly and enjoyable to be around. The Inn itself is astetically wonderful. My stay was most enjoyale.
- K&J (10/5): - This a charming B&B! We stayed in the Owasco room, which is a small but comfortable accommodation. The staff is wonderful and focused on each small detail to make the stay unique, from wine and cookies in the kitchen to bathrobes and noise dampeners in the rooms. Breakfast is fantastic!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Leah is a great host. Everything was good. The only slight negative is that it is located right on a fairly busy highway.
- Tom (10/5): - We had a wonderful overnight stay. Our room was nice. The house was charming and breakfast was delicious. We will be back.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - It's a nice house. However, the service can be more promptly during a heavy weekend. Saying that, it is not fair that one person is in charge on doing everything. She did her best considering the circumstances. I will stay there again if the price is lower.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Its a very old house. Had the toilet clog the first morning. We were able to plung it easily enough. The breakfast was great
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Our host was very friendly and cooked a great tasty breakfast!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Our host Lea was outstanding. She took very good care. The breakfast was excellent.
- Verified traveler (8/5): 2 night stay - Great location, very clean, breakfast wonderful, mattress not so much.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Jack was very welcoming and very accomodating. I loved the historic nature of the home. I stayed in the Sunflower room which was very comfortable.
- Katrina (10/5): Awesome B and B - Lovely stay in a wonderful place!
- Kathryn (10/5): Wonderful visit! - We were visiting from out of state and stayed a full week. Black Walnut is very beautiful as well as clean and comfortable. We had a wonderful hot breakfast every morning. The innkeeper also gave us excellent recommendations on places to visit. We would definitely stay here again when we’re in the area.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - We had an early graduation time which he was aware of. He said he’d have to go bags for breakfast but we were expecting a good breakfast. Unfortunately he has specific time which was later than we had to leave. So I wish he could have made breakfast earlier to accommodate the guests going to graduation.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Love the Black Walnut B & B! Highly recommended :)
- Verified traveler (6/5): Not so good. - Will not be back. Hostess was very nice and hospitable but the place itself was old and needs to be updated. Floors are uneven and steps are terrible, felt like I was walking on a boat all the time trying to keep my balance. No closet space and no central heating, they have heaters in all the rooms.
- Verified traveler (8/5): First time in the Finger Lakes - The Black Walnut B&B was a great fit for our 3 night stay in the Finger Lakes area. It's remote from any significant town, so we really felt like we 'got away', yet it's only about a 10 minute drive into the village of Trumansburg, which had some really good restaurant options (go to Hazelnut Kitchen!); and less than a half hour into Ithaca. It was also a lovely scenic drive to Watkins Glen, and close to I don't even know how many wineries, breweries, and distilleries.
Breakfasts were hearty and varied; maps and other area information readily available; the innkeepers were helpful and responsive both before and during our stay. We'd stay again!
(note- it IS an old home, so floors are uneven and water pressure is very low and it takes awhile for the shower to heat up. What can you do- call it 'character'!)
- Jody (10/5): - Very nice Bed and Breakfast. Had a great time and Jack is a wonderful host and made excellent breakfasts. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit.
- Lisa (10/5): - Quaint B & B with nice innkeepers. Clean, comfortable and great breakfast!
- S (10/5): - Great host. Jack was very helpful with recommendations for things to do and places to eat. Breakfast was lovely. The small touches were great including welcoming us with guide books, cookies and wine. He also sent us off with snacks for the car. The accommodations were comfortable and inviting.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Amazing Weekend Getaway! - This B&B was the perfect launching point for a memorable weekend in the Finger Lakes. Conveniently located on Cayuga Lake, its about a 20-30 minute drive from most of the areas highlight attractions including wineries, hiking, and restaurants (though there are also some great things to do even closer!) The inn is charming and rustic with creeky wooden floors, a lovely enclosed porch, and simple but comfortable rooms. We really appreciated the "guest kitchen" where we could make tea/coffee, store things in the fridge, and find cookies laid out by the inn-keeper, Jack.
Jack is really the highlight of this whole place. His breakfasts are a decadent start to the day- you can tell he takes pride in his food. He also gave us plenty of tips and suggestions about the area- something you miss out on staying at a chain hotel.
We stayed in the Keuka Room which was absolutely adequate, however, it was a little small considering my husband and I are both tall. The tiny bathroom and sloped roof made getting ready a little challenging. Guests over 5'9" may want to opt for a different choice. We had a peak at the Sunflower room when another guest left, and that or one of the other larger rooms would be our choice in the future.
Expect a lovely time if you choose to stay at Black Walnut!
- Justan (10/5): Home away from home in the FLX - We were in town for a family wedding and booked the Black Walnut for two nights. The location is right in wine country and the property is charming and picturesque. The owner / host was very accommodating and very good at what he does. We will definitely be back, as the Black Walnut will not be our "go to" for stays in the FLX.
- Marlene (10/5): - This is a wonderfully charming B&B that makes you feel like you’re staying at a friend’s lovely home in the country. Excellent place to stay to enjoy all the things that the Finger Lakes has to offer.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This was our first venture into a bed and breakfast so i was unsure what to expect. The owner was excellent. He possessed a good balance of being personable without intrusive. He was a great resource regarding local goings on and other can't miss attractions. Our room had a private bathroom and was quite cozy and comfortable. The breakfast was delicious and unique every day of our stay. I would stay there again and recommend this place to family and friends.
- Renee (10/5): Awesome host -
This was my girlfriends first time to stay at a B&B and it was a positive experience. The owner Jack was there to greet us at the door . He showed us around the very cool old house. He had local wines there for his guest. We walked down to the Americana Winery which took 7 mins from the time we left until we got seated and listened to some awesome live music and drank some local beer. Jack was very helpful in explaining local attractions and great routes to get there. Breakfast was wonderful also. We would definitely go back again.
- Jay (10/5): - Close to Taughannock Falls State Park. Excellent breakfast in the morning. Highly recommended!
