Guest Reviews
- Laura (8/5): - Staff were really friendly and kind, the room was spacious, clean and comfortable, loved the coffee machine and generous pods provided and size of mugs was great.
Bed was amazingly comfy! had a lovely nights sleep.
Food was excellent! good portions, value for money and really tasty.
Thanks to the Miners team for a really great stay!
- sharon (8/5): - Breakfast was only offered between 9-9.30am with no option of a take away
- Sean (8/5): - Liked the location of this place. Staff were polite and friendly , the food was great and the room was clean
- Verified traveler (10/5): Excellent place to stay - Excellent comfortable bed in large room. We had the king room, it was spotless and had everything you need, even a gusto coffee maker ! Food in the restaurant was excellent, as was the delicious breakfast.
All of the staff were very friendly and welcoming.
- Marissa (10/5): Small and friendly pub - Lovely place to stay, friendly helpful staff, food was fantastic and reasonably priced
- Mark (10/5): Better than I thought - Good old pub. Family room large, and nice that it was provided with pods / machine for coffee and hot chocolate, and a kettle for the tea.
Extra orange and apple juice, as well as milk in a fridge in the hallway.
Local drinks available and we later sat by the fire. We had eaten earlier in the day so did not try and evening meal, but they were booked out
Bed was firm and comfy, and we slept well.
Cooked full "Miner's" breakfast in the morning, with mostly local produce was great. Other foods available but we were full.
We would stay again.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Convenient position for easy access to the Forest of Dean. The room we stayed in was well presented and clean but the en-suite needed a few improvements. To summarise, It was good value for money and the breakfast which was included in the price was amazing!!
- Stuart (10/5): - Plenty of lovely helpful staff, especially the chef really hard working especially in the kitchen couldn't fault.
- Dave (10/5): - Lovely building. Fantastic food. Great value for money. Service was excellent. Lovely ambiance in the dining area. Staff were there but not in the way. Very efficient would recommend this pub.
- Rena (10/5): - Easy to find, spacious rooms, friendly staff!
- James (8/5): - Good night’s stay at this inn. Excellent food and brilliant value on Half Price Mondays. Room was good, although a couple of things could do with updating (loose toilet seat, for example). Dolce Gusto coffee machine in the room & unlimited access to fruit juice, milk, and water in the fridge outside were both nice touches. Convenient location for Forest Hills Golf Course and Symonds Yat Rock (both of which we visited) and access to other areas around the Forest of Dean. Would definitely consider staying here again and dinner in the restaurant (on a Monday) is a must.
- Paul (10/5): - Loved this B&B there were a few little things that could of made our stay slightly better but hardly worth mentioning
Ie bigger sink in bathroom and more shelving
More wardrobe space and draws in bedroom but we managed ok with what was there the other facilities were fantastic a coffee machine that made chocolate and latte which was topped up with new pods each day ( loved it ) and a fridge in the corridor with juice, water and milk in to help yourself too, little touches like this made it wonderful.
This is a superb place to stay the staff are wonderful, friendly and helpful always greeted with a smile and the food is to die for and reasonable.
I will definitely go back if I’m in that area again
Do yourself a flavour if your around Sling stay there and if you don’t at the very least go there for a meal the chefs top class you will not be disappointed.
- Helen (8/5): - A lovely stay. Would thoroughly recommend.
- Teigan (10/5): - Amazing breakfast and service. Staff were a lovely and polite.
- Joanna (10/5): Excellent stay in beautiful Forest of Dean - Great room and ensuite bathroom. Good tea and coffee facilities and attention to detail.
Breakfast very good and plenty of choice - freshly cooked. Friendly and attentive hosts. Thankyou. Stayed here twice recently and would highly recommend.
- Marcus (8/5): A restaurant rather than a hotel - When we pulled up in the carpark we at first thought they were closed, large sandwich board was mainly obscuring the entrance rather than being off to the side.
It was a large room with a ensuite reached by steps. In the lobby was a hanging unit only suitable for short clothes. My dresses were far too long for it. There is plenty of room for a full sized hanging unit. The first thing we noted about the room was the number of electric heaters, 4 heaters, although the room had central heating which wss working. The room looked tidy and clean but then i saw the dust piled up on the pictures above the bed. There was also some peeling wall paper on the one wall which someone had tried to refix. The chest of drawers also was in need of attention and opening snd closing the drawers was difficult. The information brochure in the room is really out of date and is advertising special offers in the restaurant which are no longer available which is very misleading. . It was a pity that these details, minor ones really, had not been addressed.
The main emphasis of the place definitely seemed to be the food rather than the accommodation.
- Marta (8/5): Room 5 - Clean and nicely decorated, we stay in room 5. Bed really comfy, good customer service.,we have issue with something when arrive but was sorted in no time 😁
Will be nice if pub downstairs is open longer than 9pm .
Overall will use again 😊
- Wendy (10/5): - Quiet place. Spacious room and excellent breakfast. Had an excellent menu, which unfortunately we weren't able to try as went there for a mystery evening on the steam train so were eating out.
- Rachel (10/5): Great place. Well worth the detour. - Lovely staff. Friendly and efficient. Went the extra mile to accommodate individual needs and requirements when not already catered for. For example vegan diet. Room spacious, clean and very individual.
- Alan (10/5): Great food, OKish room. - The food at The Miner's was amazing and quite reasonable too! Staff was helpful and pleasant. Our only 2 issues were that the mattress was old and uncomfortable and the bathroom floor had a squeak so loud it woke my spouse in the middle of the night!
- Ian (6/5): - Great food, very busy restaurant but quality maintained.
Stairs to rooms needs cleaning and does not give a good first impression. Room was a little noisy with extraction from kitchen fan.
- Nicola (10/5): - Most accommodating. Sam was very friendly and helpful from start to finish. Clean, modern room with every facility. Home cooked breakfast was delicious. Will return for another stay and enjoy the ambiance and evening meal. We were attending a wedding, so not enough time to fully enjoy.
- Derek (10/5): - Better than expected.Sorry the pub was closed.Great night sleep and nice breakfast.
- Naomi (8/5): - Friendly staff, delicious breakfast.
- I p (10/5): Overnight stay at Miners Sling - We booked for a one night stay before a wedding. Weather was very hot which made the rooms hot however our stay was comfortable, beautiful surroundings. We heard the quality of the restaurant were excellent however the bar and restaurant was closed on Tuesday evening and unable to eat or drink on site which was south my disappointing as we wanted to try the food which come highly recommended. However we understand the situation and didn’t put us off. Breakfast the following morning was beautiful, quality food and presentation, service was excellent. Bottled water and fruit juices were available for us which was great due to the hot weather. Small venue with only a few rooms but quality and service was excellent. Would like to return again.
- David (10/5): Miners Sling - V Pleasant; friendly staff; great local food and breakfast; real milk available in fridge a great touch and wish more places i stayed did that. Only issue was shower attachment did not seem to work - but no big deal.
- Simon (6/5): - Nice and quite in the country only 2 issues.
Pub is closed Monday > Wednesday so no food or drink available in the pub - only short walk down to Orepool Inn though where food was great- Breakfast is not served until 8.30am so no good from business perspective and felt cheated having paid for breakfast in the rate so ultimately i paid £80 per night just for a room
- kerry (10/5): - Very friendly, terrific breakfast.. well worth a stay
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Excellent overall.
Really accommodating staff
- Alison (8/5): - Very friendly staff. Good location. Good food. They need extra staff so do apply as it would be a great place to work.
- Jeffrey (10/5): Excellent Pub with rooms. - Great location, and a excellent Pub with rooms.
The food was delicious and all the staff were friendly , helpful and professional.
We stayed for 6 nights in mid March and our room , number 1 , was spacious , comfortable and clean .
The owners were dedicated to providing us with a lovely and relaxing stay.
- Simon (10/5): The Miners - Excellent rooms that had quality coffee, real milk and complimentary juice
Amazing breakfast included in a very reasonable rate.
A bit more vegetarian choice on the main menu would have been good but overall an excellent experience
Simon
- David (10/5): - Excellent reception despite me being late and needing a few minor changes to things. So pleased with the service and standard.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Miners Sling Stay - Very accomodating to requests. Nice facilities. Good food in the pub.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Clean bedrooms , with choice of coffee ,in bedroom, juice , water and milk in area next to bedroom dining area clean and well presented, staff friendly. quiet night .outside seating good..
- Jon (10/5): Lovely stay - Lovely stay; friendly staff and great breakfast
- Paula (10/5): A clean and quirky family run hotel. Lovely - Nice to stay in a family run hotel. Even saw the kids at breakfast. Room 5 was large, clean and well appointed. We had to text in advance to ensure there was someone to check us in but they were there on arrival so no problems. There were nice quirky decorations but nothing overdone.
- Philip (10/5): - Great place to use as a base for exploring. Breakfast is sensational.
- Geoffrey Robert (10/5): Great find - Great location, comfortable rooms and great friendly staff.
Would stay again
- Claire (10/5): Really comfortable stay - Lovely rooms. Comfy beds. Amazing breakfast!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Really clean, really friendly check in. Can't fault the room, overall really nice stay.
- Jackie (10/5): - Good friendly service, very clean, beds really comfortable. With a lovely breakfast, couldn’t ask for more
- Tessa (10/5): - Lovely room. Spacious. Comfortable bed. We are used to a 6 ft bed so found 5 ft small. Not that we are large people of course!
Food and service excellent! Nice ambience.
- MR TS (10/5): Excellent Food - Excellent food. Lovely lounge and fireplace. Really great hosts. Room walls were pretty thin, could hear people next door coughing, turning their TVs on and off, so, as a light sleeper, didn't get the best nights sleep.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good clean room could do with a desk or table
Food good, overall no complaints
- Phillip (8/5): Great little inn and restaurant - Great little inn and restaurant, a couple of miles outside the town of Coleford.
Great food and very friendly hosts. Clean and comfortable rooms.
Could benefit from longer hours as was it was shut when I arrived at 15.30, couldn't see any hours advertised so went into town for an hour or so.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - food was perfect . ...shower was terrible. Very hard to get taxis in that area. Staff were taken aback cause we were black
- Graham (10/5): 5 stars - Very good all round
Only problem I can comment on is you cannot check in between 3pm and 4.30pm due to the bar being closed
Would definitely stay again if near the area
- iveta (10/5): - I can’t recommend enough of The Miners Country Inn hotel with the wonderful top restaurant and bar. I was very nicely surprised by it, also a whole service and food quality. Definitely 10 out of 10 points
- Jennifer (10/5): Great place to stay - Well presented rooms.Geat staff, and best food for miles around.Good value, dont be deceived by the outside as it awaiting decoration.
- Warren (8/5): Pleasant and convenient stay - The room (5) was clean and recently refurbished by the looks of it. Everything was of a fairly high standard and we had more than enough room. The staff and owners were more than accommodating and it the complementary breakfast was spot on.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful, clean hotel room with great facilities and lots of lovely personal touches, owner and all staff were lovely! Breakfast was delicious and the restaurant were able to cater to gluten free! We also ate dinner one night which was just as nice.
- Stacey (10/5): Amazing location, lovely rooms and food - Food was lovely catered for dairy free and gluten free although did run out of soya milk, rooms were beautifully decorated and furnished and very clean and tidy
Would stay again as amazing location near forest of dean, clearwell castle etc
An good value for money
Only other thing is it would be good to have a dairy free tea option in the room as they were capsules
- Penny (10/5): - Bedrooms newly refurbished to a high standard. Food all sourced within 40 miles of the hotel. Staff friendly and helpful.
