Guest Reviews
- Eduardo (10/5): - Puntos a considerar. Hay habitaciones con balcon compartido. Y no trae caja fuerte.
- carlos (6/5): - Property was under construction. No hot water.
- Jeff (2/5): Demolition this hotel - This hotel should be demolished to the ground and start over horrible conditions. We were checking out and the maid came in while we were at breakfast and made the bed without changing the sheets. Toilet seat is not attached to toilet horrible place
- Susan Analy López (10/5): - All it's good
- Victor (10/5): - Jimmy Mojica was extremely helpful and willing to accommodate our needs.
As an example, procuring additional towels for us.
Excellent service. Thank you.
- Cristina Parise Gré (2/5): I will never return - ressemble à un film d'horreur
- Eduardo (6/5): - Le falta restaurante
- Jon (8/5): - The Hotel was fine. The pool was slimey and it appears to be used by large groups partying during the day. Not sure if they rent it out to other groups to bring in a little more cash but that is what it looks like. The area outside of the hotel is nasty. Was thankful to have enclosed parking at the hotel. Has potential to be a very nice hotel once again.
- Allan (4/5): - Bad food, Bad A/C, Dirty places, only Local TV channels
Good: Staff, new Rooms, Excelent View
Hotel in ristrutturazione. Personale molto professionale
- Bedia (8/5): - La vista
- Richard (6/5): - The hotel was under a major renovation which I can understand the lack of a lot of things. But no fridge in the room, dinner was not worth the money and too dangerous to go out. Although the staff were nice.
- Tonmilv (2/5): Terrible place - Terrible place, could be a great hotel but it's basically abandoned. Place is dark, old, without maintenance. Hallways are dark. Rooms are just in bad condition. Bed is terrible, not even a level mattress, no hot water, no outlets, no cable
Parece casa embrujada literal jaja
- Sergio (2/5): - There was no towel no running water to flush the toilet or take a shower no soap.
- Elmira (2/5): - I never stay in that roach hotel I need my money back I’m not playing
- Andrzej (6/5): - Hotel kiedyś może był perełką. Obecnie zaniedbany. Tylko podłoga ok. Wi-fi brak. Brak ciepłej wody. TV marne. Basen ładny. Widok z okna rekompensuje minusy.
- Guilherme (6/5): - A
- L8907VTgeorgej (2/5): Complete fraud, No work has been done in years, - There is not working hotel. Check google maps, that's what it looks like. The east side of Colon looks like the worst parts of Haiti. Stripped out builds, garbage and waist six feet high on the sides of the roads. Do not walk the streets at night. The reason they don't answer the phone is because its fake. Do not get out of your car at this hotel. There will be guys hanging out side waiting to mug your. This sight needs to be taken down.
- Theresa (4/5): Very disappointed in this Hotel! - The front desk clerk wasn’t helpful and didn’t provide internet service or remote for A/C. We had to find another employee to help us. Also, the following day they chain locked the front door, locking us in! We couldn’t leave and there was no employee in site to unlock the front door… health/safety hazard! We had to walk around the entire hotel to find a child to help us. We had to check out with him… also wasn’t informed about the strict covid shut down Colon has on Sundays, when they knew we are leaving then. Had to get police escorted out of the Colon. The room we stayed in was in poor condition as well. TV didn’t work well… I do not recommend staying here.
- marcbG7175YD (2/5): Do not book this place - Had booked and paid through travelocity and didn't even stay for a single night. Place is not what the pictures show. Truly disgusting and unsanitary. Dirty stained, sheets, garbage in the hallway and most squatters would not even consider it for a night. A total scam. That said, travelocity only made it worst with over 3 hrs to try to get my money back as they sold it to me and took my money on total false pretense and images, and still waiting for a fractional of my payment back from them. Let's just say I will not book that hotel again nor use travelocity again.
Per me va molto bene
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Hotel is on the upgrade.
I got No Hot Water to bath for the duration of my stay.
- Disgusted (2/5): - The property was terrible. I was quoted $26.64 and charged more. Staff did not want to provide me a receipt of my stay, water in the room was turned off overnight, did not get a ocean view as promised. Electric outlet & phone did not work, no hot water in the room, property needs a paint, request an iron and told we had to wait until 10am when another employee came in. We were checking out before 10am. The worst part was that visitors to the swimming pool area were urinating at the side of the pool. I advised employee that the patron should be removed. She stated that she advised the patron but him and his friends continued the practice. They just moved the practice behind a adjacent wall to the pool. Terrible experience.
- Pamela (4/5): - Nothing, the property is kept in a very sketchy part of town, room smelled damp, there is no place to grab food around
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Great location. But the pictures online are old, hotel does not look that anymore. Hotel has great potential, and doing some updates. But currently just place to sleep.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Its on the Water Front but the hot water does'nt work.
- Gabriela (4/5): - Las personas amables.
- 769lyndab (6/5): Old but tired. - We only visited for about ten minutes during a taxi tour with our driver Riccardo. Although old and tired you can see that this building was a great place in its day. It still holds onto some of its grandeur and you can imagine what it was like in its heyday. You have to wonder though why the stone crest above the entrance is only partially painted and why a picture of dogs playing cards is in the reception area. A lot of the old furnishings remain here and the marble halls hark back to the past splendours. The front garden area looks well maintained but the rear area looks like a building site with an empty swimming pool. Good views to the canal entrance though and would be interesting views on a busy day. Like a lot of Colon this is still a work in progress and much still to be done to bring it up to par.
- Yanet (2/5): - Disgusting and Deeply Frustrating for my family. Speechless.. picts can speak by them self, take a look everyone, to make it even worst they put all of us in 1 room, only one room and we paid for 2 rooms, WORST experience so far no doubt about it...
- Lattemachiato (8/5): Classic hotel in need of TLC - The roads leading to the hotel are very run down and scary but the hotel is a classic. The views of the ocean and the ships going into the canal are absolutely breathtaking. The hotel itself is in the process of being upgraded as it had been neglected for a while.
Only one person in the hotel spoke English which was disappointing since I had booked it through expedia.
The hotel recommends not to walk outside the hotel area in the dark and you can see why!
- 476nadjak (4/5): Old beauty run down - Stayed 1 1/2 days and overnight. The first impression was very good. Beautiful garden, nice location on the sea, amazing entry hall. Personnel barely speaks English and not all of them seem very enthusiastic about their work.
The room where I stayed was acceptable, nothing more. If you're not the adventurous type, try something else. Wifi only worked in public places, bathroom was a useable construction site. Some of the other comments are still true: damp air, no windows for opening. Even the toilet paper was damp. Towels and bedsheets were old but acceptable. I was lucky to have the choice from 4 pillows and found one which was less in clumps.
Most unpleasant was the noise. Birds outside, but they respect resting hours, personnel inside. The hall even increased the music and shouting.
The place could be charming and with a bit of modernizing works even beautiful, let's hope they will do something about it! (Internet connection didn't allow uploading pictures)
- dirks786 (6/5): Grand Hotel at Basement Bargain Rate - Here is your unique chance to stay at a Colonial Grand Hotel at a true basement bargain rate! Mind you, don't expect a five-star Hilton, but this majestic hotel still shows shadows of her glorious past.
Warning, located in not the best part of Colon, travel by taxi after dark.
- debrar924 (4/5): Very old bit clean quiet - This hotel was much older than I thought . It really could use a major update . With all the upgrades going on in Colon it could really use some major work . Business wise with the room keys etc. the staff is very nice and the room was comfortable but I was not as comfortable with the openness of the hotel for the area.
Price wise it was great however , with a bit of an upgrade it could be a lot better. The Bldg is nice also.
- PanamaFoodies (2/5): Wouldn't Recommend For Gringoes - This place is run down, dingy, and in a pretty bad neighborhood! We went to view the sunset and was hoping for a restaurant with a view! No such luck and wouldn't have eaten at the place anyway! We ended up ordering a beer and some microwave popcorn at the pool bar and that was the only highlight! $4 for two beers and popcorn!
- Traveljunkie72 (6/5): I'm here again - still one of my favorite hotels in colon...maybe it because I like old buildings with amazing history...it's by no stretch of the imagination a 5 star hotel but one can feel the spirit of is grandiose back in the early 1900s when it was the accommodation of choice for the engineers and financiers of the Panama canal while in its construction phase. The rooms are large...it's lobby magnificent. .courtyard and gardens spacious. The restaurant has shrunk over the years and seem to be under new management...food not as good as years gone by but still palatable. The branded hotels that have sprung up around this place have taken their toll and this hotel is not as full as it used to be...but still a lovely place
- carlos4040 (4/5): Set bar really low - Only had breakfast here.
The entire place was sad and past its prime. The food was very plain and one dish was disgusting. I finished my pancakes but parents were very unhappy.
Waitstaff was nice but reception was un inviting.
Sadly, I would not recommend unless you like some adventure.
- RickB817 (6/5): We enjoyed a nice breakfast at the Washington Hotel in Colon - We were doing a day trip in Colon and stopped at the Washington Hotel for breakfast.
The gardens in the front of the hotel are very well cared for and the owners have done an admirable job in remodeling the ground floor of the hotel. (We did not stay overnight or venture upstairs.) The hotel's location at the mouth of the harbor is superb. Our breakfast was tasty and a good value. The restaurant and bathrooms were clean. The staff were polite. As Colon continues to rebuild itself, this hotel has the potential to be excellent. We would visit here again.
- debonairr (6/5): Not well maintained - I stayed here for only one night. The hotel looks good from the outside and view of the sea was nice. But when i entered the room, there were dirt on the floor and the toilet was not cleaned enough. The foods on the restaurant took a very long time to prepare. On the bright side, the wifi was all over the place and the aircondition is still good.
- brianbluebird (6/5): Interesting, a weird apparition in a dump..... - Colon must be where Neil Young wrote "Keep on Rocking in the Free world". Took a taxi from the Cruise Terminal. Colon is like the old Havana with attitude. 10 times worse than Harlem in the 60's. It is definitely edgy and decrepit -which is eye opening. Never have I seen so much street litter and rubbish. We could see tire fires in the streets just off the one main drag. We drove into small gated Communities where the gated houses had guards as well!
And then suddenly the Hotel New Washington! An apparition in this dump. Nice looking grounds,
good looking entrance. It must have been fabulous a long time ago. The view of the Canal at back is amazing and a must to see. However no food in the restaurant and a complete lack of interest by all staff. Its worth a 10 minute visit, longer if you can get a drink. Dont be scared -get a good taxi driver at the Cruise Terminal and enjoy a tour. It is a long boring hot way to walk into the town -nothing to see on the way in.
- smartinky (4/5): A Historic ruin, but ruin none the less. - Our stay was short. We checked in at 11:30 am and out at 4pm.... Same day. We spent the afternoon having lunch in the hotel's restaurant, walking the grounds to view its crumbling facade, and interior public space. The Spectacle of canal shipping moving past its waterfront is quite impressive. Amazingly, there's a grounded vessel resting alongside the hotels sea wall... A BIG vessel. One can imagine another era, but they won't come.close to experiencing it.
Personally, I think the building is past redemption but that is not a matter of review. There is a certain romance to fading structures, and some of us seek this romance as we travel. What remains here isn't romance. It is a room with a layer of white dust so thick that it smears across the wood furniture and turns the bottom of your shoes white as you walk in the room. It is a bed skirt stained by years of use without ever being laundered. It is an aged pillow made of small foam chunks that billows that same white dust every time you slap it. It is electrical outlets hanging loose from the wall. It's water that never turns even slightly warm.
The air conditioning did work in our room but would've preferred having a window that could open to vent the damp smell.
Well, there you have it ... I gave it two stars instead of one because I respect the will someone has to keep this old dump's doors open.
- angiesph (2/5): Old, run down place. - I would not recommend this place to anyone. We stayed 1 night as we were curious to see colon and we couldn't wait to leave.
The lobby showed traces of its old glory but rooms and the grounds were sadly in disrepair. You just don't feel safe or comfortable here, it's not a nice environment.
- TillyTravel58 (2/5): A sad end for a formerly grand hotel - We did not actually stay here, just called in for a beer. However that experience was enough to convince me never to stay. There was no proper bar so we asked for the beers at Reception. The staff were some of the rudest we have met, sullen and resentful. However the deciding factor was the ladies' toilets. There were 3 cubicles and 3 sinks. Two of the toilets were blocked and in the third the seat was not attached. Only two of the sinks had taps, and there was no was no water in either of them. I cannot imagine what the rooms are like based on this evidence, but I have no wish to find out.
- jlg07 (2/5): Not a pleasent place to stay - The outside of the hotel allured me into staying. I was very disappointed. The building is amazing though I wished I had stayed somewhere else and made a visit to see the hotel. The rooms are very shoddy and not very clean (rust on the fixtures in the bathroom, holes in the walls from installing cable - not patched, some peeling of the paint). I booked online and while I was checking in another person checked in before me for $10.00 a night less. When I asked about it, I was told that the rate was the lower than what I paid but that was the online price. The view of the ships going into the canal is exceptional and there is a nice pool. The pool accepts non guests for a daily price so it was not very welcoming. The hotel is situated in a very bad neighborhood and I was advised by the staff not to leave grounds except by taxi.
- Mxmale (6/5): The ghosts of Panama history still around! - Washigton Hotel, Colon
Only come if you are romantic and like historical places, if you are expecting fancy well restored places do not come. But if you are interested in Panama history you must visit this place. The building is very beautiful, but need a very urgent restaurauration! this could be one of the most beautiful heritage hotels in the Americas.
It was constructed 100 years ago, all the important visitors of Colon stayed there, their ghosts still around! Among the interesting stories, here is the place where former President Juan Domingo Peron from Argentina, met his last wife and also President of Argentina Maria Isabel - Isabelita- Peron.
It is in a very bad neglected condition, so sad.
