- dsH771MI (2/5): The resort from hell - Terrible place. Awful rude staff, disrespectful staff who will hassle you. Woken up early around 7.30am by the staff. Insects in the room, such as ants and cockroaches. Gaps in the floorboards and doors. They take a 10000 bhat deposit. They informed me about the deposit after I moved in, rather than letting me know beforehand. I did not see most of this deposit when I left. Staying here completely ruined my trip. It made what was supposed to be a relaxing holiday very stressful. If this had been my first trip out to Thailand it would have left me with a bad view of the place. Luckily, it isn't and I have had many beautiful experiences in Thailand. Just not with this resort. This was the holiday from hell due to the resort and its management. If you are looking for a stress free trip I would book somewhere else. I would not stay here again if I was paid to.
- Rachel (6/5): - The wooden huts are pretty and well situated on a very quiet and beautiful beach.
The place was generally clean but could do with some renovation, and some furniture to put stuff on (no bedside table, we had to put the kettle on the bed headboard to boil as cord was too sort to put anywhere else)
However the place is good value for money.
Don’t expect to have any help from the staff who didn’t understand much at all, and any question asked seem to bother them.
- lisazF3097YL (4/5): Paradise but with a catch! - Quiet and nice accommodation, recommended by Routard guide, but with quite a few flaws: in the summer (july/August) there is low tide so it's impossible to swim; the accommodation is very basic and non functional along with being dirty and infested by all kinds of insects; the owner barely speaks English; beds are old and uncomfortable; and also a couple of pointers: don't use the taxi they call for you or the bike rental they recommend. The taxi driver, who is the owner's brother in law, mixed up my fiancé's passport with someone else's, consequently we missed our flight to Bangkok and we had to buy other tickets.
Be wearly!!!
- DENISE (10/5): - best! best! best!
- DENISE (10/5): Paradiesische Ruhe! - Wunderbares familiäres Resort.
Sehr einfach und unaufgeregt geführt von den thailändischen Besitzern.
Schönste Lage nahe beim Dorf.
Füt Familien und Ruhesuchende die allerbeste Wahl.
- AlezLopez14 (10/5): A no frill resort with great surroundings and views - The resort is located at the far end of Chaloklum bay right on the beach. It is a very secluded area yet close enough to markets and restaurants. There are several diving sites nearby, and places to rent equipment from. It rains a bit in the winters, so be prepared for that (I had checked that on climacell app). You can also rent motorbikes nearby.
- jakuvo (6/5): Great accommodation, not so great beach - Bungalows. are nice, quite spacey, clean, resort restaurant is very nice and cheap. So you can spend here a nice time.
The beach is very small with a lot of rubbish, this was the main disadvantage. It is also quite far from the village, so you'll be probably walk. along the main road in the dark like all people do. We did this with two little children.
- 840catalinn (8/5): Very peacefull place, nice staff, good food and good prices... - First vizit to a Thai island,so I’m happy that I stayed at the Wattana resort because first impression matter. I highly recommend and definitely come again.
“Very peacefull place, nice staff, good food and good prices...”
- 801howarde (8/5): Quiet, relaxing stay - Stayed 4 nights, bungalow #5, second row from beach. Very clean, no insects (even with floorboard gaps), good aircon & fan, hot shower too. Great base for exploring on bike (be very careful of driveway down to resort - use next door access).
Lovely family, very friendly, couldn't do enough for us. Restaurant good, some items not available, but no drama's... chaloklam has amazing seafood restaurant choices.

- Muttus (6/5): Nice quit place, shallow beach, tasty food - but need improvement - I have spend 5 nights in Wattana resort on Ko Phangan which is about 1.5 km west from Chalokum town on the northern side of the island.
The location is bit far from everything else so unless you have some mode of transport you will resort in lot of walking (taxi is overpriced in the island). But if you are looking for seclusion and quiet time this will be perfect for you (we did).
We stayed in economic cabin which has ac, bed, bath room and small porch. The cabin looks nice from the outside - all wooden, but it bit run down (not too bad). There is no TV and the room is rather small - but sufficient. You can find all kind if insects coming through the wooden floor so if you mind this rather look elsewhere.
The bathroom is small, bit run down and if you take shower you will likely make it all wet.
Bed is very hard - but it worked for me.
The restaurant offers tasty meals for 50-150 THB per course (i would say double the price of the street vendors in non touristic places), the courses are rather small. Takes 2 or 3 to make you feel full.
My biggest concern was that beach is not clean - so you don't really feel like going for swim there. The see is also shallow in the bay. I recommend to go about 1 km Ao Chaloklum Bay where you can lay on romantic white beach and buy some food during the stay.
- littledeer (8/5): Remote Tranquil resort. - You will probably need a motorbike as it is VERY remote.
There is a nice little village nearby maybe a 5 minute drive and 20 minute walk.
When we first arrived it was so empty it was like having your own private beach. A few people filtered in later on.
Also a nice seating area where you can hang out, they let you stay as long as you want into the night, if you switched the lights off etc when you're done.
The rooms have mosquito nets, we chose a fan room which was fine as long as you air it out a bit.
But nice place, and good value.
- Thai-Mike (6/5): No personality - Nice people, Quiet, rooms are a little tired but clean. They do nothing to encourage personality. You don't get water each day. There is no mode of transportation. The restaurant has no ambient feeling. But the food is good and the Pease and Quiet is great. Except the early morning dog barking...
- bryan_m11 (8/5): Most chilled Hotel ever. - This Hotel had to be the most relaxed place ever, the people there were nice and really relaxed with everything. This place is at the far end of Chaloklum away from town and mostly everything else. It doesn't have a beach directly on it but the bay with a stone breakwall but once the tide goes out it's fun to explore the tidal pool and watch all the little crabs come out. The hotel is more like a familiar cottage then a hotel. There is obvious usage and things may not be up to a lot of westerner standards, but it's good value and clean. There is a western toilet but it's in a wet room bathroom which is not really normal for westerners. Very relaxed place and the food at the hotel is quite good and priced well. It can be a walk to town to go eat and you may not want to do that one of the first nights. Bring a flashlight for the night walks. Also walk thru the little road/path to the left of the driveway (when leaving) and this brings you out at the road before the hill. This shortcut avoids having to walk or drive the motorbike up and down the hill. You do go past some sort of chicken farm or something but it's fine. There is no safe at the hotel but they do have a little lockable wardrobe. I would suggest to check the windows are locked when you are out too. It's a remote place, however nothing ever happened and the staff were always friendly. Transport is going to cost 200baht per person from the Pier in a taxi.
- comeflywithmeFlorida (10/5): Old time Phangan - If you are looking for a small family run place on a beautiful beach away for jet ski, power sailing and full moon parties then Watanna is ideal. Food and service is good and there is a range of rooms available. 15 min walk takes you to the village of Chaloklum where there are a number of seafood restaurants where fresh fish can be bought for about 250Baht. Nice place, recommended.
- ondraf2016 (8/5): Quiet family resort right on the beach, but dirty surroundings - - basic, clean hut ( bathroom could be cleaner )
- quiet, right on the chaloklum bay, close to fishing village
- friendy staff (family company)
- square meal
- amazing view from restaurant
it is a pity that there is so much clutter around :-(
- Yeay (8/5): Peace and tranquility - We visited at end of season, early september, and the place was very peaceful. I really enjoyed waking up early to listen to the wild birds tweeting away. The restaurant was modest but was cheap and had great fresh juices. A bit run down but really good value for money.
- envy604 (8/5): Good hotel for value, a bit far and secluded from everything else - Stayed here for 2 nights in August 2015. It was a nice hotel with good staff. We got the "family" bungalow and had 2 double beds in our room which were comfortable. The room had wifi which was decent, and the washroom was clean and the shower was hot. The location was a bit too far away from everything for us, it took about a 30 minute motorbike ride to get to the part of Koh Phangan where all the restaurants and bars are. We went to a moon party and it was about the same distance away. It is expensive taking taxis from here on the island too, usually around 200 baht. This hotel would be well suited for families who are looking to relax and have an ocean view bungalow that is far away and quiet. Would also be good for couples looking for privacy. When we needed a transfer to the ferry pier the staff were very helpful in assisting us. The restaurant at the resort is fair priced, and the breakfast tasted good.
- JujuKarma (10/5): best deal in koh phangan - charming bungalows right on the beach of the chaloklum bay and fishing village. Friendly family run business. great food for breakfast lunch and dinner with a sea view. No thrills no fuss a real break from city life... only a few minutes walk on the beach to delicious dinner choices and activities like wakeboarding and diving and boat rides to Bottle beach.
- LookNSeaScuba (8/5): Spartan, inexpensive place to stay - I needed to relocate when my plans in Koh Samui fell through. Another experienced diver recommend I try Wattana Resort for a cheap place to stay. I looked it up and the first price quoted was 330 Baht or $10 US. It came to a little more with taxes and fees--400 Baht, plus there was a 3% fee for using a Visa card and my Visa charged me an extra 4% on top of that (so use cash if possible--Visa will rip you off twice!).
What the online site does not tell you is that you are booking through an agency, not directly through the hotel, so you may want to look into that too. The agency will make you play "Twenty Questions" to get any answers, but once you are there, the woman you will deal with, Yiu, is not like that. She will answer your questions and is very helpful.
I chose the cheapest room because I was going to be there for 2 1/2 weeks and I didn't want to waste money on a hotel. I was there to dive so I wanted the least expensive place I could find within reasonable distance to my dive center.
I would tell you to ignore previous reviews of this place. They are absurd! One says it is a 20-30 minute walk to a beach. It is ON the beach! Another says the food at the on site restaurant is terrible. Because of that review, I went to bed starving a few nights when I waited till it was dark to want to eat and then didn't want to walk on the dark road to find a restaurant. The restaurant is fine and the prices are comparable to the other local restaurants. For instance, the Tom Ka soup was about 80 baht. A coconut smoothies was 50 baht. It was 60 baht at a "cheap restaurant."
My room was super spartan. The bathroom was "icky" by Western standards, but it was a western-style toilet and sink. There was no hot water in this room and no AC but it was usually cool at night, so if you open the windows when you come home, it will be fine unless you are someone who likes it super cold. The lack of hot water in the shower is not a problem unless you wait till it is cool at night to take a shower.
One review said that the mosquito netting was not adequate. I never used it. Mosquitoes were not a problem unless you take a bungalow at the beachfront and sit outside in the evening. They were rarely at my bungalow--only for a little while on the porch each evening and then it was only 1 or 2.
Here are the downsides for an American: there was ONE outlet with a single 2-prong opening. If you have a 3-prong laptop plug, you must bring an adapter. I burnt out my laptop battery plugging it in here. I had to plug it in high up on the wall and drag it to the bed. I was there for photography so I had to rotate which set of batteries or computer I could charge. This was very inconvenient. So bring a power strip if you have multiple items to charge each day. Or at least bring an extension cord because as I said, the outlet is about 5' high on the wall across from the bed. I found this very odd and not particularly safe. My battery burnt out so saving money on the hotel will cost me more than the difference to replace my battery--all because no one mentioned that I should bring a surge protector or anything I mentioned above.
There was not much light in the room, which was unnerving for cleaning and replacing o-rings on my very expensive camera setup.
The shower head is on a wall between the sink and toilet so the water sprays all over the bathroom and gets everything soaked. Everything in the bathroom was broken, and I waited till the last full day I was there to tell Yiu, but she then tried to fix everything that morning.
The mattress is as hard as sleeping on a wooden plank so I had to sleep on a line-up of bed pillows or I would wake up in pain.
There is no mini fridge, microwave or anything to keep food or drinks cold or to heat up food in the room. This is a problem if you like cold water. Too bad! You will have to keep buying it and drinking it right away. But you can buy bottles of cold water at the restaurant on site.
So if you want super cheap, this is a good option. It is quiet (other than a cacophony of wild birds, lizards, roosters, chickens, and dogs), safe, on the beach, and accommodating. There is a hammock on each private porch, which even the cheapest bungalows have, so it is relaxing.
If you want comfort or luxury, either upgrade to a better cabin, or choose another resort, but I didn't see anything much better, anywhere on this island, so this is a good option overall.
- Dumas85 (10/5): Small but good - The rooms are quite small. No more than 2 people could fit comfortably. They are clean though and all you need I think. They also have a nice wooden design and carvings. The view to the beach was nice but I don't think it's the best for swimming and laying out on. The staff are very friendly and helped right away when the power went out. Would stay again
- Chiefsullivan (8/5): Beautiful spot, quiet end of chaloklum - Great bungalows with great views, the resort has really nice spacious grounds the bungalows are spaced apart well.restaurant also very good and cheaper than most places in chaloklum..staff really great also!
Some screens on the windows would be a great improvement!!
Bathrooms need some ventilation
