- Memet (10/5): -
- Stela (9/5): - Staying in a machiya really does feel like stepping into a more authentic side of Japan.
- Isabelle (8/5): -
- Sanne Vinther (8/5): - Virkelig smukt og hyggeligt Det var svært for varmepumpene at opvarme underetagen.
- Koh Wan (9/5): -
- Ashanti (7/5): - Loved the traditional Japanese style home and thought it was a cool conversion from a restaurant. It was cold and there is no mention of guest having to heat the place with the 4 space heaters they provide.
- Joey (7/5): Looks good at first glance but the facade is fragile. Not a real townhouse. - It was very spacious and on the surface nice to look at. The place promotes itself as a traditional townhouse but instead it is a badly renovated restaurant or something turned into what somewhat looks like a townhouse. One wall above the kitchen is still open and you can see the old buildings wall still there. There was a lot of dust in many places, it didn't seem very clean. Most problematically because we went in winter, the isolation was terrible. The bedrooms had no top/ceiling to then meaning you need to heat the whole house to get comfortable temperatures in the bedroom. The kitchen and dining room never heated to normal temperature because of this.
- chris (8/5): a lovely, unusual old style home, perfect for a family of 5-6. walking distance to kyoto station. -
- Clemens (9/5): - Ganz tolles, sehr traditionelles Haus mit allem was man braucht. Und eine super Lage. Wir haben es genossen.
- Francis (10/5): -
- Gabriele (10/5): Unique - Unique NA
- Iustin (10/5): A must try authentic Japanese home experience - It was the most authentic Japanese home experience, close to the central sration Cannot complain- it was perfect
- Rieko (7/5): Amazing house - Beautiful house!!! It is such a disappointment to stay at such an amazing house that has dust everywhere. I saw mold in bathroom and washing machine. Also one of the tatami rooms was a little bit challenging to cool down since there is no wall above, and it was very bright in the morning because there is no drapery.
Lastly, it’s about a 15 minute walk from Kyoto Station, but you can easily take a taxi.
- Rafa (10/5): beutiful house with excellent location - Excellent house for a family and location .
- Dana (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lillian (10/5): It was super nice and comfy, would definitely stay again! -
- Sean (9/5): Wonderful home. Would stay again in spring or summer. A bit too cold for winter. - Wonderful little house. Very clean. Easy to access and find within the neighborhood. Close to central train station and comfortable walking distance (30 mins) to the city’s main shopping and restaurant clusters. Very easy to understand instructions for appliances. A bit too cold for a stay in winter. Half of the home is virtually impossible to heat.
- Simon (8/5): Very good -
- Arnav (8/5): Nice stay! - The look and feel of the property and the location Personally the futon beds were not comfortable at all but I guess thats how these traditional homes are meant to be. The house was very cold so we had to put in multiple heating devices.
- Deborah (8/5): Very good - Loved the tradition but modern feel and the location. Was a highlight of our accommodation in Japan.
- Lisa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rebecca (10/5): Loved the house, so unique and traditional, walking distance to train station, kyoto samari experience and nijo castle. - Location, the traditional feel of the house and area It was dusty
- Sarah (10/5): Amazing stay! - This house is very spacious and comfortable
- Gabocanci (5/5): A great cultural experience but feezing - The whole experience in a traditional Kyoto house was great but not the best, we felt like in the old Japan times. Very spacious and bright. Difenetely overpriced, we found the rooms very dusty and dome damage on the papel walls. The worst part is that the place was feezing, litterally a feezer, Kyoto is very cold on February, there were many heaters but it was not enough to warm up the whole house.
- Megan (7/5): Fun for a night but not comfortable enough for a longer stay. - The house is an old machiya house- super interesting to have the full experience! There was lots of living space downstairs, and two bedrooms upstairs. The bathroom was modern and nice. The upstairs platform linking the rooms is really painful on your feet, be warned! The property was really dusty, so it felt unclean. I appreciate that in this style of house it’s hard to keep the beams etc clean but dust was really billowing around in the main bedroom and the corners were all very dusty.
I also wish they’d left us some more towels; we were 3 people for 4 nights but with only 3 bath towels and really chilly weather they didn’t dry very fast, and I would have preferred a dry towel.
On that note; this is not a house for cold weather! Even though we turned on the heaters, they didn’t do much so we gave up and put on all our layers. I would never have managed to stay if it was winter.
- Quek (7/5): Overall a good house to experience ryokan with modern mix. If it wasn’t for the cold, it would have been perfect. The st - Nice architecture, good that they have 2 bedrooms, each offering different type of sleeping experience. Extremely cold even with the heaters on, and also taking out the spare heaters to use. Feels like the heater ventilation Isn’t working well
- Thomas (10/5): Exceptional - Spacey and within walking distance to stations Great place to stay with family and friends without any disturb.. Have everything you need for an extended stay. Heating can be improved. The living area is bit too cold in winter.
- Bartl (9/5): Worth the yen, a memorable experience! - The design is beautiful and worth the experience. The humidifiers in bedroom were great to have. Having a washer/dryer was nice. The property has lots of beams and high locations that were quite dusty….this should be addressed bc then the quality of place would be 10/10, amazing!
Also, upgrade the cushions in main living space…zabuton quite worn and as this is main hang space would be a nice improvement.
- Franck (10/5): Exceptional - All. Nothing
