• Samuel (8/5): - Large conformable room which had recently been decorated, but still missing some basic fixtures (eg. towel rail in bathroom). Front desk not always manned and staff not easy to find. Excellent breakfast.
• Corinne (10/5): A little gem - I stayed at this hotel for3 days as a solo for a family wedding. I was in the main building and had a lively recently renovated room. It was compact but comfortable with everything I needed. There is a hairdryer in the drawer,a large tv,coffee and tea,fluffy white towels and a fan. Shower was compact butvery good with lashings of hot water. Hotel is very well placed with a garden by the river, Breakfasts were very good from pastries to full English. Staff were lovely from cleaning ladies,bar staff,reception and restaurant. I was able to park at the hotel.There are 2 parking areas at front and side but if you cant get in the local carpark is £7 for the day and right next to hotel entrance. Would Igo back there ? Yes

• MARTIN (10/5): Comfort - Room good but nowhere to hang towels or toiletries in the bathroom. The rooms upstairs were rather warm at night and didn't get cooler even though the outside temperature was a lot lower. No air conditioning.
• Sarah (6/5): Short stay - Check in was quick and easy. Car parking was an issue due to the size of the car park available and with the hotel being busy, there was no available space. Hotel suggested a near by pay and display. Could there be an agreement for parking so you don't have to get up at 8am on a Sunday to pay for parking. Breakfast was a shambles as only one member of staff on duty and as it was busy, turnaround of tables was non existent. Customers were having to sort thier own tables out. Contintal Breakfast was of a good choice and plentiful.

• Roger (8/5): - The Cosener's House is really convenient for Abingdon town centre. Yes, it's a little bit "lived in", but it has character :-) It's the second time I've stayed here now, and I will return. The staff are very friendly anf the overall "vibe" is great :-)

• Rosie (4/5): - We chose this hotel as my husband has limited mobility and we needed somewhere with a restaurant. Unfortunately there was a wedding the day we stayed and the restaurant was closed meaning we had to travel elsewhere. They did email a few days before to inform us but it did not give us time to find alternative accommodation. The room was basic but clean and tidy. The bathroom was not up to an acceptable standard. It was incredibly tired and dated. Not the standard you would expect from a hotel of this size. Staff were polite & pleasant, but again the level of service was the bare minimum. When we handed back our key we got a 'thanks' no one even asked if we had enjoyed our stay. Definitely not worth the money, we won't be returning.
• kathryn (6/5): Needs general maintenance! - Our ‘Deluxe’ room unfortunately had an interconnecting door to the room next door through which we could hear exactly what our neighbours were saying! Our view of the river was completely obscured by a huge fig tree! The whole hotel needs upgrade and maintenance (my husband fixed the shower door and shower head himself). Won’t be staying again which is a shame as it’s in a good central location for visiting lots of places.
• Yuval (10/5): - Breakfast is vegan friendly and the staff is very aware of preferences. Reception was kind and helpful, rooms are clean and tidy. The hotel has also a wedding hall so it wasn't too quiet until about 23:00. Other than that, it was a nice experience for our short stay.
• Sharon (10/5): Great stay - It didn’t start off very well as issues with room but we were quickly upgraded to a luxury room which was so lovely. Breakfast very varied with great choice of items which was very nice. Lovely comfortable bed with great pillows really excellent sleep.

We were blessed with sunny weather and sitting out in the garden right by the river watching the boats go by in the evening with our glass of wine was so relaxing. Thank you all.

Breakfast was simply amazing with lots of lovely food and choices. Downside was having to get up before 8:00 am to get a ticket for my car that I had parked in the nearby car park. Parking was limited at hotel.

The shower was unacceptably dated and outright unclean, the check-in staff was rude. I wanted to spend my one night and leave as quickly as possible in the morning. I’m not sure what to say to anyone who has rated this hotel as passably OK. The room itself was not.

• Michael (6/5): - This hotel is in a really interesting location but the rooms make you feel like you are in a halls of residence. Small and basic. I arrived late after travelling for hours and there was nothing available to eat apart from a bag of crisps and a pint. On the plus side, it was quiet, until the fire alarm went off. There were signs in the rooms warning that if you shower with the bathroom door open, the fire alarm would go off. There was also the sound of something like a lathe at 6.15 in the morning.
• Clive (4/5): - Badly in need of investment, what could be a beautiful hotel is sadly not worth a return visit. From bedrooms seemingly last decorated in the 70s to what my wife described as ‘the worst breakfast I have ever had in a hotel’ (cold, stale buffet fare), our visit was memorable for all the wrong reasons. Thankfully we only had a one night stay.

• Adrian (10/5): Great character hotel in Central Abingdon. - Second stay here at character hotel with lovely terrace, garden running down to river. Got great room upgrade and checked in slightly early. All staff extreme helpful, e.g. printing travel documents, leaving me extra Galaxy chocolate and milk, great service at wonderful breakfast. I probably stay in 15 to 20 hotels a year and their breakfast buffet is superb. Good quality items, well stocked and at righr temperature. Will happily offer other items to order if not on buffet e.g poached eggs. Ate lunch and dinner on a few days, always enjoyable. Lovely brie, bacon, cranberry sandwich for snack. I love chunky chips but they were out 2 days I requested, regular fries decent substitute. Location excellent, on quiet road near park, restaurants, shops etc. Another great stay makes this my 'go to' place when in Oxford area as like scale, character, walkabilty of Abingdon.

• Ian (8/5): - Hotel location was excellent. We had difficulty logging onto the internet, but staff were very helpful and we were able to gain access. Our room, (unfortunately looking out onto the bin area) was in need of a makeover but it was comfortable and clean. Shower was good although not a lot of room. Breakfast was excellent.

• Phillip (4/5): - Our deluxe bedroom was very basic and far from deluxe. Food and wine options very limited. Few staff and very limited facilities.
• John (8/5): Excellent Hotel, but Parking a problem - The lack of parking was a major issue on arrival, with very dark and narrow facilities around the hotel and when the dead end was eventually reached it was necessary to reverse out. I then parked in the nearby council car park which had quite ambiguous instruction on the fees. As a disabled person I then had to carry my bags (one of which is very heavy as contained medical equipment) back to the hotel reception. The pleasant young man on reception apologised profusely about the lack of parking (to be fair it was stated on the original booking form that the car park was sometimes full). He also carried all my bags to the ground-floor room which I had requested. These are quite new rooms in an annex to the main building. The room was very good indeed, with views over the beautiful hotel gardens to the River Thames. The room was warm and the bed was comfortable. The bathroom was huge, and was a wet-room - ideal for disabled persons. Only small issue was the extremely small hand-wash basin, and I could not get the wi-fi to work. All in all I enjoyed my stay and would return again.
• Kush (6/5): Lovely staff, poor room - Staff were really lovely and made us feel very welcome. However, the room was not good it was in an extended part of the hotel (Orchard Suite) and it was not in good condition - paint was chipping off the wall in the bathroom, carpet was marked, it was way too hot with no thermostat and even with the window open, and the tea/coffee selection wasn’t good. The main building looks lovely and perhaps the rooms there are nicer but not in this extended bit.
• Hannah (4/5): Awful room, looks better in pictures - The interiors looked a little worn overall (scuffs on the walls etc) but the room they gave us was horrendous. There were signs of damp, unhoovered carpet. The bathroom looked like a hospital /care home bathroom. They then upgraded us to their ‘bridal suite’ and I’d say that was an average budget hotel room, more like we were expecting. I have to say the staff were very accommodating. We weren’t expecting to be upgraded, we just simply couldn’t stay in that room so were going to leave but they were helpful in accommodating us. The grounds and exteriors are also pretty. Not a great location if you want to be in central Oxford as it’s about a 20 minute drive out. Breakfast was fine, nothing wrong with it.

• Steven (8/5): Good hotel - Good stay, good room, good breakfast and helpful staff,… only issue was delayed check in as hotel did not receive my booking from hotels.com but the staff sorted it eventually.
• Kevin (8/5): 5 night Wednesday to Sunday - This venue is much bigger than you think. Conference centre and wedding venue so ask if either of these are happening during your stay: parking becomes a problem with the extra guests (no-ones fault, just the way it is) and it gets boisterous and noisy if a weddings on. Weekdays are quieter than the weekends. I didn't mention that my wife's mobility is restricted when I booked and our room allocation was up 3 flights of stairs. A word in reception found us reallocated to a ground floor room outside the main building. No drama so a big thank you for that!! Breakfast is buffet with all the options you could want. Evening meal limited but okay. Like everywhere the staff are stretched but are very hard working.

• Jason (6/5): - Very Basic room which was very dated. No aircon... or fan in room. Hotel looks amazing and set in beautiful grounds. Felt the room was over priced due to it being quite small and very dated....
• Dilys (8/5): Excellent location with free parking - We had a lovely overnight stay at The Coseners but there were some oddities! Before going there, we wanted to establish whether our room would have a King Size bed as this was important to us. It proved extremely difficult to get through on the phone, time and again. We were then told that it was impossible to guarantee which bed we would get as rooms were allocated nearer arrival time. Finally, a solution was found which was to give us an 'accessible' room which had a Superking bed and which could be booked in advance. At check-in, no-one was at the desk and no bell to ring. Our room was in the comfortable but functional modern block, with no pictures on the walls or other interesting touches. The large bed was indeed very comfortable, but the washbasin inevitably low, and we lost the river view and the bathtub. Breakfast was very good, with excellent service. Delicious scrambled egg, but no choice of fried eggs. We sat in the conservatory and enjoyed the beautiful view. The gardens and location are stunning right on the bank of the Thames, and to have free parking in such an ideal location was a big bonus.
• Beverley (6/5): Lovely location, adequate stay - The hotel is in a lovely location and the building is gorgeous. The staff were extremely friendly. The bedroom was very clean. I only had two real issues: 1 minor point was that the shower cubicle was horrible. I understand if it’s not been renovated (I got a cheap deal and don’t expect to be put in the best rooms!), but I do think it would be possible to reduce the limescale and discolouration. 2. Major issue: there was a loud family above me. It was really awful. I don’t think it was entirely their fault - the floor must be really thin, as they weren’t shouting, only talking loudly. I really think that when old buildings are converted into hotels, the hotels must ensure proper soundproofing or heavy duty dampening. Families don’t whisper (nor should they),and other people certainly don’t want to hear every word they say or every step they take. I was just lucky they went to bed at 11pm. Sadly, they woke up at 6am.
• Allen (2/5): Disappointed - There was a birthday party at the hotel and they requested that they have sole use of the bar and restaurant which the hotel granted. There was a band for the party and we were given a room directly above the band. We finally asked to be moved and were put in a handicapped room where the bathroom mirror was 3 feet off the floor. Bed was too hard and terrible pillows. It was one of the worst nights I ever spent in a hotel.
• Susan (10/5): Lovely setting in the centre of Abingdon. - The Coseners house is a lovely old building in the mist idyllic, peaceful setting in the centre of Abingdon. I stayed for two nights while working in the area in a single room. The room was very basic, a bit like student accommodation, but it had everything I needed. Thank you.

• Jeremy (10/5): - Very pretty setting close to the Thames path. Easy access to Oxford by bus. Less than 5 min walk into Abingdon for shops, pubs etc Room (a delux one) was clean and quite well appointed and the bed was comfortable. Nice view of the garden and river from the window. Breakfast was very good.
• Ian (8/5): Coseners - An amazing location on the Thames at Abingdon. Check in and staff friendly and efficient. Main building old and romantic. However, we were booked into a new extension building exhibiting a number of issues. Had the feel of a college dormitory with no carpeting, banging doors, echoing noises and uninsulated walls. Bathroom clean but shower bath had high sides. Room quite cramped with only two power outlets (for kettle and floor fan) and no outlets or USB by beds. Discovered this was a government owned establishment that created real issues for WiFi login. Wi-Fi kept dropping out and demanding lengthy re-login process. Wi-Fi did not reach new extension. Luckily the NagsHead pub free Wi-Fi across the river reached our room. Breakfast and service was excellent.
• Martin (8/5): - The hotel was in a lovely spot by the river, very close to the town centre but quiet. The room was great with a comfortable bed and plenty of hot water - a proper bath too which we appreciated. Our only gripe was that the wi-fi wasn't working and the staff didn't seem surprised by this.
• Caroline (10/5): Fabulous location - beautiful terrace and Gardens. Good Breakfast. Clean and pleasant room. Helpful staff. I would stay again - it is in a fabulous location. No kitchen service after breakfast on a Sunday. But close to pubs and restaurants in the town - whilst feeling as if in the middle of nowhere.

Residential accommodation in modern block very pleasing but height of mirror in bathroom was a bit too high for small adults. Staff attentive and Eliza delightful! A glitch with one serving of the main course was dealt with well. Would certainly go again.

Bedroom and Bathroom very clean but communall hallways quite grubby. Needs a lift in main house. Overall not convenient for anyone with mobility problems but May visit again in summer as position and grounds very nice.

Walls need to be painted, the furniture has marks and veneer damage, the bathroom is still in the 80’s with vinyl floor which is lifting and the bed was poor with tatty fabric and a below average mattress Positives were the breakfast was good and the hotel was clean Shame as the building is fantastic and with a refurb this could be exceptional.

• Clive (8/5): Great location for town - Terrific location for a stroll into Abingdon for restaurants & pubs. Plenty of buses for a quick journey to Oxford. Our room No. 3 had a great view overlooking the garden & river. Good breakfast selection, & helpful staff. Avoid room 2, it's the most depressing hotel room we have ever seen.
• Verified traveler (8/5): Nice and friendly - Hotel was brilliantly situated. Right near the Abbey and town centre. Setting was lovely, right next to the Thames. Breakfasts were good and staff were lovely and friendly. I was disappointed with the inside. Really needs an update but keep the character of the age of the house.

• Jolanda (6/5): - I had booked a single room and the room was very small, but had a lovely view of the grounds and river. My confirmation said I had a deep bath in the room, so I was disappointed to find only a shower. I mentioned this on leaving, thinking the hotel should have this information, and was told that Hotel.com would have been responsible for the mistake and I could complain to them. The receptionist was unconcerned and didn't seem to think that the hotel should take any steps with Hotel.com to make sure others were not misled. Breakfast was disappointing as all the hot dishes on the buffet were lukewarm. I think something may have gone wrong with the heating system, as `I saw boiling water being poured into the vats manually, but there was no warning of this - if there had been I would have ordered dish from the kitchen. No-one comes to the table to ask about drinks so I had to go and find someone to order coffee. The hotel is in a lovely house and an attractive spot but there is no warmth from reception when booking in (or when pointing out a problem) and breakfast needed to be sorted out on the morning that I was there, though the staff who were on duty were pleasant and friendly.
• Nga Ying (8/5): - The vintage house atmosphere is definitely there. The lobby is stunning, love the stairs. Not a big fan of the room though, a bit too small considering the price. Even though it’s a 5-star hotel, it used to be a house.
• Gordon (6/5): Coseners Abingdon - Interesting old building in a good setting. Room was basic. Very good breakfast and friendly staff.
• George (6/5): - The hotel itself is nice, staff friendly and breakfast is good. The rooms outside of the main hotel in the stable block are really disappointing though. Small and sparsely furnished even though they are quite new. The plumbing is good, the bathroom worked fine. For c£100 b&b there are other options in Abingdon that offer better value.
• Fiona (8/5): - The property from the outside was very nice, however inside didn’t live up to expectation. The room, which was in a separate building, was basic and felt more like a council building. I gave up trying to access WiFi, as I had to send a text to get a user name and password. There were then additional questions, at which point I gave up. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. There was very limited parking, so had to pay to park the car in nearby car park.

• Ian (6/5): Lovely with disappointing aspects - Booked 2 nights in a deluxe room. Welcomed at front desk and checked in fine. Deluxe rooms are in a separate building that looks more like a business centre from the outside. Once inside the building the hotel section is decorated and finished to a high standard. Allocated a room on the first floor. No lift, so stairs the only option. The deluxe room is decorated and finished to a high standard but is much smaller than advertised. This was very disappointing. The room size of 35 m sq. and the pictures of the room are taken from the family room and not the double. Bathroom was lovely and again finished to a high standard. The whole place is spotless. Wi-fi in the room was a joke. Best wi-fi locations were the common areas of the main building. Breakfast was also disappointing. It is not cooked and served fresh, instead the items are cooked in advance and stored in warmers. Leathery sausages and cardboard bacon, yummy! The grounds are well kept and the hotel itself is clean and well maintained. Location is on the bank of The Thames with a very short walk into Abingdon. There is a lovely large park next to the hotel.
• Alun (8/5): Lovely hotel with great location - Great location. Right by the river, with the park on one side and the town centre on the other. Perfect for me, going back to meet up with old school friends in the the town I was born in. Room was a single and definitely on the small side. It was very hot overnight. But the hotel had a really nice ambience, great location, and friendly staff - I'll happily stay there in the future.

• Verified traveler (10/5): - Very pleasant location by the Thames in the centre of Abingdon. Good food, friendly staff. A bit noisy at least in the main building as there are lots of heavy fire doors which bang when they close, but presumably necessary in an old building.
• Michael (8/5): - This was my first stay at the Coseners House and i found everything to be very good. My room was in the Orchard building and although fairly basic in style,the furniture and bathroom were quite new snd spotlessly clean. I had a very enjoyable meal in the hotel restaurant and an excellent breakfast the next morning. I'll definitely be staying here again when it reopens.
• Chris (10/5): Do not hesitate. Amazing. - Fantastic hotel. Beautiful setting in the grounds of Abingdon abbey. Description on hotels.com doesn’t do it justice. Abingdon is a great town as well. Loads of decent boozers and restaurants. Great weekend away.
