Guest Reviews
- Anna (10/5): - This was such a nice stay! The AC was powerful and the instructions for the doors were clear. The staff were friendly and Varada helped me greatly with booking tours. Facilities were very clean and I didn’t hear other people while in my private room.
The location wasn’t the best, it was pretty far of a walk from markets and temples, but bolt solved that.
Overall a great stay
- Clyde (10/5): - Highly recommend. My go to place when I’m in Chiang Mai.
- Clyde (10/5): - Highly recommend this hotel. I’ve stayed here many times and am always very happy. Had a few problems the last visit and the staff addressed the issues immediately.
The hotel’s owner has lovely cats that are well behaved and crave attention. There’s fresh coffee in the lobby and a seating area where one can relax. There are several places to eat nearby and two Michelin star restaurants minutes away. 7/11 is a short walk and the surrounding area is very safe . Rooms are cleaned on a daily basis and there’s a safe to lock up valuables. Laundry machines downstairs and a drying rack on the balcony of each room. A laundry service is just around the corner if one prefers.
- Dylan (10/5): - I stay here every time I’m come to CNX. Great location and quiet off the busy road
- Clyde (10/5): - Highly recommend this property. Well managed , safe , quiet and extremely clean. The owner is available to help with your needs. Staff is respectful and courteous. There are several adorable cats too.
- Clyde (10/5): - Excellent property with a professional management team. Housekeeping is daily and there is a self service laundry downstairs. The owner has several cats that are very friendly.
Close to award winning Michelin restaurants and Maya shopping center. Walkable and a safe neighborhood .
I’ve stayed here many times and highly recommend
- Bahram (10/5): Best place in Chiang Mai - Loved this place! Very friendly staff, clean accomodations, laundry service, great security and amazing location. I've been in Chiang Mai for about 2 months and this local is my favorite so far. Close to Maya mall and Nimman area, close to Old town and street food market. And north of Varada you will find a very local scene with some very authentic and extremely affordable food ect. Don't miss Huan Muen Jai and Khao Soi Mesai acclaimed restaurants literally arou d the corner!
- Laura (10/5): - Loved the cats, Panda was our favorite. Laundry outside. Friendly staff. Very clean. Free coffee/tea. Great location. A little walk from old city, but we enjoyed the local restaurants in the north end more! Cheaper prices and more authentic.
- Rod (8/5): - Extremely friendly front desk.
Clean room. Very affordable. It was a good value.
- Joshua (10/5): - The hotel was nice and clean, the staff fun and friendly. The innkeeper was very nice and made sure I had a safe and homely experience. Highly reccomend
- Sirichai (8/5): - The property is very clean, and the staff are very friendly and welcoming.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Varada is a great value for the price. Clean and simple.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Everything is good, except that sometimes the bars nearby could be very noisy until midnight.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Close to downtown and foods just here around the corner and laundry machines.
- Michael (8/5): Not bad - Pretty decent hotel for a really good price. WiFi was very good. Water pressure in the shower could have been better, and there was a bit of an ant problem in my room.
Conveniently located with a lot of good restaurants in the area.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I stayed in the hostel portion of Varada. The housekeeper brought in a fresh towel everyday and cleaned the shared bathroom inside the room. There were nice big lockers in the room and the sheets were cleaned after every guest as well.
There was drinking water, tea, and coffee available all day.
There's a nice sitting area where I could get some work done.
The staff was also very friendly.
It's also pretty centrally located for your wanders.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Staff not very friendly, otherwise a nice budget hotel
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Clean, convenient, helpful staff. late night check in. Not fancy but good value.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was close to the city center, which made it easy to navigate Chiang Mai. The staff were very friendly and hospitable. The shower was difficult to use due to the shower head, but other than that, no complaints.
- Tori (10/5): Safe and comfortable stay - We had 4 nights here and really enjoyed our stay. The staff was extremely helpful and even set us up with a cooking class that we loved! The rooms were simple, but clean and comfortable. There was complementary water and coffee in the lobby.
The area was perfect for seeing all the sights, or grabbing a red truck ride anywhere.
Would recommend to anyone looking for the type of place to keep things safe and have a good nights sleep!
- Tim (10/5): Stay here - tremendous value for money - I simply can’t believe what value for money Varada place is - we got a spotlessly clean room and bathroom - a comfy bed, good linen and nice touches like free coffee in the lobby.
The staff were friendly and helpful and also helped us with a travel tip of using a local public bus to get us to the airport (20 baht each) rather than a much more expensive taxi.
I cannot recommend this hostel/hotel highly enough - we could easily have paid 2 or 3 times as much for the same quality in a hotel
- Maria (10/5): Great! - We loved our time at varada place! Great location, perfectly clean and the staff are great! We got some tours arranged by the hotel too that were great! Will be back!
- Tom (10/5): Wonderful accommodations! - This was my first stay in Chiang Mai, and I selected this place based on a nearby resident’s recommendation. Rooms are clean and well-maintained. The hotel staff was very nice and friendly, and upon checkin I was given a walk-through of the room.
- Dan (10/5): Very nice and conveniently located hotel in Chiang - I stayed here for 2 weeks. Conveniently located between IT mall and Maya Mall. Clean and quiet room that had TV, microwave and refrigerator. I would highly recommend this hotel. Close by restaurants and convenience stores.
- George Hue (10/5): unbeatable value - lovely
- Bradley (8/5): - Really good value for money. Staff very helpful arranging day trips. Location is a little outside old town area but it's close to main road to catch baht buses (although Uber is even cheaper). Had a room on the end and the beer garden next door can get a bit noisy
- Frank (10/5): Superstar guest house! - You won't find any better hospitality in Thailand. I had booked online a dorm room but there was an overbooking so guess what happened? I got my own private air conditioned room for 4 days!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Varada Place - Stayed in a single room for myself. It was good for what I needed/wanted. It was basically just a place to crash at night, but had I spent more time there had the nice ammentities of air conditioning, fridge, microwave, and tv. Staff were super nice, and helpful in helping me find some good activities on my first day there in Chiang Mai. Don't book adventures in advance. They have a big pamphlet of adventures, you pick one, pat at the desk, and get picked up (door to door service for all adventures).
- Lauren (10/5): Overall a good stay - Situated in a quiet side-street with lots of nearby casual restaurants/bars. Easy access to tuk-tuks/taxis. Room was very well-kept. They did charge us an additional cost because the "do not disturb" sign fell off the door and broke, which was slightly annoying. Overall a good stay.
- Gareth (8/5): - The hotel staff is very kind. Hotel check out is 10 AM, but our flight leaving Chiang Mai wasn't until 9 PM, but the staff let us store our bags in their main office until we were ready to leave so we didn't have to lug them around with us all day while we toured the city.
- Kristen (10/5): Great hotel and location! Highly recommend! - I have nothing but good things to say about Varada Place (except, no elevator)! The room was very clean and had a fridge/microwave. It was cleaned daily and I was given 2 bottles of water (refrigerated) per day. The owner is frequently at the front desk - she speaks English well, and was always willing to answer questions or give recommendations (she even showed me the best way to eat a mangosteen!). My airport transportation was arranged as well for a great price.
There is small balcony/outdoor area with a sink - good for washing/drying clothes (There are laundry facilities on site also).
The location is great - many restaurants within walking distance, a convenience store just around the corner, and a lot of expats hanging around. There is a large mall within walking distance, and you can cheaply and easily get transportation to other parts of the city by walking 2 minutes to the main road and grabbing a "red truck" (songthaew).
If I visit Chiang Mai again, I will definitely stay at Varada Place!
- Verified traveler (10/5): This hotel is the best budget hotel in Chiang mai - The price we paid for our stay at Varada place was extremely cheap for the standard of room & service, this place is by far the best budget hotel I've ever stayed in!! (And I've stayed in a lot ) If visiting Chang mai again i needn't look anywhere else!! Great staff, Great rooms, Great location!!! NUFF SAID!!!
- Bianca (10/5): Recommended. - A little bit out of the main city. But don't let that stop you from staying here. Great value, great staff, about 10 mins walk to the city wall. Will recommend.
- Cags (8/5): Clean, comfortable and quiet - Varada Place a clean, comfortable and quiet budget hotel - we were very pleased with our choice, it proved excellent value for money. The room was spacious, the bathroom clean, with a reasonable shower and there was a small balcony with a sink and rails for washing a few clothes. The hotel is located just outside the centre of Chiang Mai - it's walkable but you might prefer to get a tuk tuk (approx 80-100 TBH) or songthaew (the shared taxi you can flag down on the street, approx 30-40TBH pp). The staff were very friendly and helpful. We would definitely recommend Varada Place to anyone looking for good quality budegt accommodation in Chiang Mai.
- Mutsumi (10/5): Great stay! - I really enjoy staying at Varada Place~ The room comes with air conditioning, fridge, microwave, hair dryer, shampoo, body wash, tv, bed and a closet. The wifi worked great in my room and they bring you towels every morning. The fridge also works really well and it's close to two malls MAYA and Central Kad Suan Kaew so if you need to shop you have two places in walking distance. There is also a bank called UOB with pretty good exchange rates as well.
Also, Varada is extremely helpful and welcoming so she was very helpful. The people at Varada are very nice although some of them don't speak English that well, they will still try their best to help and assist you in any way possible.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Loud banging bar next door. Housekeeping not OK. - Major ex-pat bar nearby. Housekeeping clueless. Seems OK for a night. Not stay longer. Keep your things with you if you leave room.
- Ainsley (10/5): amazing value for money! - Staff excellent, very helpful! Room very clean and great facilities I.e aircon (good aircon), hairdryer, seating area, outside section for shoes/ drying clothes etc. Would definitely recommend!
Also good facilities downstairs.. Hot water (noodle pots) , computer etc.
- Amy (10/5): Everything you need! - Such a steal! The cleanest place we have stayed in Thailand, and amazing service as well. You're wasting your money is you stay anywhere else in chiang Mai! Comfortable bed and strong wifi. The restaurants out front are wonderful after a long day of adventure, and there are night markets right around the corner! Thanks Varada for a wonderful stay!
- brad (10/5): The staff honestly cannot do enough for you. - Amazing staff. They cannot do enough for you particularly when you ask for information. Free water every day in the fridge. Free wifi. Shower was a bit low as I am 6ft. Air conditioning was amazing!!! Surfers paradise bar across the road is awesome also and run by a great friendly Australian woman who will also give you tons of advice provided you're a friendly person.
Would stay here again in a heartbeat!!!
- michael (10/5): Nice hotel for a traveller on a budget - I have stayed at the hotel for 4 nights and i most admit its an excellent hotel for the money they charge.
Sometimes the noise from the hallway can be heard inside the room and i am only guessing the opposite might be true as well.
Anyway I will recommend this hotel to my friends
- Abigail (10/5): - We had
- Christina (10/5): Nice hotel with good accommodations - We only stayed at this hotel for one night & it provided all the accommodations described. The staff doesn't speak a lot of English but it wasn't a problem. Very comfortable & smooth stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Basic, very clean, great base - Stayed for 3 nights. Owner was very helpful, booking Thai cookery, elephant sanctuary trip and airport taxi and giving advice on taxi fares etc. Only complaint was mattress is covered in plastic and this made sleeping very hot.
- Kirsti (8/5): Good value for money - This is a very seriously and professionally run hotel. You definitely get your money's worth. We would not hesitate to go back.
On Friday night, there were a lot of people in the nearby Corner Bistro until very late, which made it impossible to sleep before 1 am. The week nights the noise was much less.
- Verified traveler (10/5): centrally located hotel with very helpful staff - The owners of this hotel were so welcoming and made me feel comfortable. It is very clean.
- Sara (10/5): Great place great location - Very nice staff, very clean accommodations. Close to city center, but in a quiet area.
- Jordan (10/5): Verada stay - Great location and very enjoyable stay. We were unsure as to our plan in Chiang Mai but the hotel owner couldn't have been more helpful. She assisted in planning our excursions and coordinating everything for us. Definitely recommend to friends and family
- Verified traveler (10/5): Pleasant and helpful - Very pleasant modern hotel. Lovely, kind, extremely helpful hotel owner.
- David (10/5): Beautiful and cheap :) - My experience was good, there isn't anything bad I could say about this place. The owner "varada" is a beautiful lady that speaks great English, although at times I wish she was present more because some of the other staff have a hard time understanding.
- Scott (10/5): She rocks! - Excellent stay. Our best in Asia during past month. Keep it up Verada, you're a lovely lady. Rent a bike for 150 baht from buddy bikes on the Main Street by the mall. Cheers
- Melanie (10/5): - Can't think of 1 thing to complain about. Aircon and wifi work perfectly. Use of the computer and printer downstairs was ideal for arranging onward journeys etc. Varafa extremely helpful and polite. Rooms spotlessly clean. Free tea and coffee a nice touch also.
- Antony (8/5): Very good value - A clean and tidy guesthouse in a great location close to big shopping centers and Nimmanhaemindha nightlife area. Excellent service and good security. Rooms are bright and airy. highly recommended for business travellers or tourists for short or long stay. Very good value for the price.
- Eimear (10/5): Wonderful place - Immaculately clean, wonderful staff who were always more than helpful. Varada and her husband were wonderful hosts and they have a few extras such as a computer, free printing which is a nice touch.
Little bit of a walk into town but food is cheaper here.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great hotel for the price. - Spent 3 nights here in July 2015, there were 4 of us and we booked 2 rooms. It was clean, the AC worked very well, there were no bugs, mold, stained sheets, etc. TV worked, front desk staff were friendly. Great value hotel. Don't expect satin sheets and room service, but if you're looking to save money I'd highly recommend Varada
- kranny (10/5): Nice hotel - Great hotel - super clean and safe. Pretty good location - easy to get taxi or red truck into town.
- A & F (10/5): Very clean and comfy! - Very clean and comfortable! Exactly what we wanted: ensuite with HOT showers and COLD air conditioning! The in-room wifi was very strong and worked great! Everyone was very friendly and helpful! Maid service every day that we wanted it plus 2 free bottles of water daily. We had a room on the 3rd floor in the back and it was very quiet. (We didn't mind walking up the stairs, there is no elevator.) Good location not far from the old city. You can get almost anywhere in Chiang Mai from here on a ro-dang for 20 bahts each (about 75 cents). A wonderful hotel, and all this for a VERY low price compared to hotels in the U.S.!!!
- jeannietcw (10/5): Clean, comfortable & cosy. Highly recommended! - We stayed in March & I didn't regret choosing this place to spend our 4 nights in Chiangmai. We were very happy with the place! The room is clean, the beds are comfortable and it's like home. It's like staying in a one-room apartment unit that comes with a TV, fridge, microwave, bathroom and a private balcony. Varada Place is not very far from the main road & it is a walking distance from Kad Suan Kaew shopping complex. You can make your own coffee & tea at the waiting lounge located at the lobby. The owner (Ms Varada) is excellent. She is friendly, down-to-earth & helpful. She was readily available whenever we needed advice on where to go, how to travel there. I'll definitely pick Varada Place as my top choice accommodation in Chiangmai near future
- Verified traveler (8/5): good budget - This was a great budget hotel.Located in the NW corner of the square it was a little far form the night market and other areas but we did walk everywhere. Room was basic, good air nice shower.
- soph (10/5): - Great host, very clean & well organised. Good restaurants near by.
- Walter (8/5): Great Value - Although this hotel is away from the main tourist area it only takes about 20 minutes to walk into town or there are plenty of red vans/tuk tuks available. Excellent value for money, rooms are plenty big enough and have a small balcony where you can hang your laundry - washing machines available alongside hotel and cost just 20 baht. Lady owner is extremely accommodating - she was quite happy for us to book in when we arrived on the overnight train from Bangkok. Plenty of eating places in location.
- Keong Choon (8/5): My pleasant stay at Varada Place, Chiangmai. - Comfortable and a convenient place to stay.
Not overly priced like other locations.
Weighing up cleanliness, near facilities and price,
it is good value.
Use the tuk-tuk or learn to ride a scooter b4 you come to Thailand.
It gives you a lot more convenience and mobility at a very reasonable price.
- Claudia (8/5): Great bargain, but avoid room facing the street - Varada place offers value-for-money accomodation in a non-touristy neighbourhood where one can find authentic local cuisine just around the corner. It only takes 5 mins to reach the old city by taxi. The place is very clean and well-secured. Varada, the owner was very helpful in providing tips to visit Chiangmai and generously offered her bicycles to cycle around for free. The bed is comfortable, but the pillows were too hard for my taste.Internet connection was a little intermittent.
I had a room facing the back for the first 4 nights, which was fantastic. However, I had to change room when I extended another 4 nights' stay, and this was not as nice because it was facing the street and there's a bistro right opposite that blasts the music volume until 12 midnight.
- bernard (8/5): would go again - poor Internet
- Jeanne (8/5): Comfortable room a little outside of the old city - The owner, Varada, really takes care of you! She sat us down at check-in and showed us where the must see things were on the map. She also helped us get our papers organized for our visa renewal. We only saw her on one other occasion during our 3 day stay but she was very pleasant.
The room was very clean and comfortable with hot water shower, refrigerator, desk, television, and 2 bottles of water everyday.
Although it is written that, unless you put the Please Make Up Room sign on your door the staff will not clean the room, someone still banged on our door at 8:30 am to ask if we wanted to have it cleaned. It was a bit annoying but we put up the Do Not Disturb Sign whenever we were in the room and did not get bothered that way again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great Value for Money! - Very clean, excellent price, extremely helpful owner, and free bicycles to use! Basic accommodation but unbeatable for the price!
- Mark (10/5): Great deal in Chiang Mai - Varada runs a wonderful guesthouse and makes for a great deal in Chiang Mai. Comfortable bed, air conditioning, and great service. She even went so far to ship a shirt I forgot back to the states.
- Sabine (10/5): Great place, great location, great owner! - Stayed here for four nights. We had a room on the first floor. The room was quite big and it wasn't loud (no noise from the street), the bathroom was clean and the shower didn't make a mess. Varada, the owner, is the sweetest woman, she helps you with anything you need or need information about. We came through Chiang Mai again layer and stayed here another night. Although she was fully booked we could stay at her nearby guesthouse which was just as nice (although noisy at night). She just added a lounge room next to the entrance with seating, computers and coffee. The location in super nice: 5 min walk to Maya Mall, 5-10 minutes to the old town and there are lots of food options and coffee shops around the hotel. This is a great place, I'd definitely come back!
- jim (10/5): Varada is excellent in every way. - Loved everything about stay, owner is amazing and very helpful. Excellent location for wonderful experience. we plan to return.
- Mata Ortiz gal (10/5): You Must Stay Here! - This was the single best hotel experience of my life, and I've had quite a bit. Varada, the owner, treats you like family. She goes out of her way to be helpful, allowing guests to check in early in the morning (if a room is available) instead of waiting all day until check-in time. Perfect for people, like me, who have taken the night train from Bangkok. She even fed me scones and coffee while I waited for my room to be ready. If no rooms can be available early, you can safely leave your luggage and explore the city.
I can't begin to tell you how great my stay was. I had a small problem, which I thought was an infected bite. I decided I needed to go to the hospital to have a doctor check it out. Varada took me to the ER in her own car. On the way, she wanted to eat, so she took me to a local favorite place to have lunch. She insisted on paying for my lunch, even though she was doing me a tremendous favor. When we got to the ER, she explained my problem in Thai to the personnel. Where else would you get that level of assistance?
Varada has traveled extensively and treats her guests the way she would like to be treated. I could go on and on about how helpful she was, arranging trips and asking other travelers if they would include me (a single traveler) in their excursions. Suffice to say that if you want very nice accommodations for an incredible price, with service that you will remember all your life, stay he
- Simon (10/5): Clean, busy hotel - Run by the lovely Varada, this hotel is outside of the city walls but within very easy and cheap access of the centre of Chiang Mai. Guests can use the swimming pool of the nearby Orchid hotel for a small charge and there is a great massage offered by a team in the building. I'd definitely stay there again.
- Kay (6/5): Comfortable - The rooms were clean and the showers were hot. The location is difficult to find your first time. Several tuk tuk drivers didn't know and had to call the hotel for directions.
We never saw the staff of the hotel. At check in we met a young girl who didn't speak English. Each time we had a question, they had to call the woman who speaks English on the phone to help us.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Good clean accommodation - Varada Place was great place to stay. Varada was lovely, she is very caring and does everything possible to make sure your stay is a pleasent one. She even has bicycles you can borrow to use around town.
- HN89 (10/5): Cheap and cheerful hotel - Ideal for those who are just travelling and need a place to stay.
Excellent rates and you get nice clean room.
- Danielle (10/5): amazing, stay here! - good size rooms, very clean, balcony, just off the main road so nice and quiet, 24 hour security. next door to massage, 1-3 mins walks to a variety of restaurants, 3 mins to a 7-11, 5 mins to a starbucks and a large mall with food court, 10 mins to the city wall. owner incredibly helpful and friendly, she will make sure you have seen everything you need to see and more that you didn't read on trip advisor, and helps you arrange transport for your itinerary. highly recommended, will gladly stay here again!
- Melanie (10/5): Excellent value for your money! - This is a great little hotel in a perfect location just minutes from the old city and close to useful shops, restaurants and services. Clean, bright, and well-priced rooms with air conditioning, private bathrooms and balconies. Helpful and friendly staff. We will most certainly be back!
- Nick (10/5): Third time staying at Varada Place - We've now stayed at Varada Place three times. The accommodations are perfect for longer stays and are very affordable. The room has a bed, refrigerator, microwave, TV, desk built into the TV table, armoire, nightstand and lamp. It also includes a bathroom with a shower, with fair water pressure. There is also a balcony with electrical and water hookups. If you need more than that, Varada is will lend you small things like dishes and an electric kettle. If you're there for longer stays, she will even help you buy a stove and or small sink to put on the balcony, if you're staying there for a while. Varada Place really shines because of Varada herself. She is very kind and helpful. If we are ever back in Chiang Mai, which is likely, Varada Place will be at the top of our list.
