Guest Reviews
- Sean (10/5): - A lovely room, in a lovely house, with a lovely host, and a delicious breakfast. Highly recommended.
- Sandamali Yashodhara (10/5): A Cozy and Convenient Stay - The place was just as described and had everything we needed. The real highlight was the excellent breakfast, and the service was outstanding. The location is also very convenient if you’re visiting Edinburgh or traveling to other parts of the Highlands. The only downside was that the sink tap didn’t have hot water
- Samantha (8/5): Good stay - Would stay again if in the area but need ear plugs if in the family room with the busy road out the front. Lovely breakfast but no options given, all were served cooked breakfast. Lovely selection of yoghurts and fresh fruit. Very friendly and attentive.
- Karen-Marie (10/5): Lovely place - Lovely welcoming host who was very accommodating about an early check in to suit our needs. Clean, comfortable room and in a great location. Made us a special early breakfast so we could have something substantial before we headed off.
- Owen (8/5): A good stay - Breakfast was lovely..lots of fresh options.
We had an unusual welcome by the gentleman of the house, when answering the door I had to explain why I waz there. He didnt know which room category we had booked but said the double was now available. We booked a much bigger room so we could get a double bed but happy to take the double. I dont think it was quite ready. Towels were just on the chair one tiny soap and one tiny bath wash randomly in the bathroom. Cookies with tea and coffee was a nice touch. The bed was foam spongey and the shower very light in pressure. When we asked about local restaurant recommendations he wasnt sure. We met Mary a lovely lady . Would I stay here again yes I would..i just think we caught them off guard. We ttied to message re our arrival time late afternoon but the website would not let us send. Stay here you will be looked after.
- SARAH (10/5): - Very comfortable stay and amazing breakfast. We stayed here just one night to get to and from Edinburgh airport. The X18 bus comes right to the property (1hr ride) for about £5 or you can take a cab (25min) for about £40. We were pleased to see there were plenty of fast food places around that are open until 11pm or midnight - not all small towns in Scotland are like this. Only downside is we could not find an email address with which to contact the hosts during our travels, and since we don't have UK numbers we had to rely on courtesy phones to get in touch with them regarding check-in. Would highly recommend The Gables and their lovely hosts.
- Michael (10/5): Perfect accommodation. - I was only stay one night but I was greeted by Mary and everything to me was perfect.
Pleasant room and great breakfast.
- James (10/5): - Well maintained property with a friendly and helpful hostess. Excellent breakfast. Easy Parking. Location lacks services and areas of interest within walking distance.
- Kristofer (8/5): - Nice B&B with good access for Edinburgh!
- William (10/5): Wonderful homely and welcoming place..... - Stayed at The Gables for a weekend in August 2025. Had a wonderful experience, and the convenient location of The Gables made our lives easy. The hostess, Mary, was an absolute diamond. She greeted us warmly and provided us with a wonderful cooked breakfast each morning. The rooms were spacious and very clean. Would highly recommend a stay at The Gables for anyone looking for somewhere homely and welcoming within a short drive to Edinburgh.

- Veronica (10/5): - The house was built in the 1870's. It has lovely charm. They are so very kind and accommodating. My room was nice and clean and comfortable. There's bus stops near by that you can catch to the middle of town and a train station to take you to Edinburgh that's 20 minutes from the house. Everything is convenient. Highly recommend!
- Callie (10/5): - The home is absolutely charming! Mary and Donald were so sweet and helpful, we felt very warmly welcomed. The room was a bit small, but the bathroom was large and comfortable! Breakfast was filling and fresh, it’s clear lots of love and care go into it. The only issue we ran into was frequency of buses and trains, but if you’re willing to walk for 20 minutes to the train station you can get into Edinburgh within an hour.
- Andrea (10/5): - Lovely place and only a mile from the train station.

- Philip (10/5): - Surprisingly nice little bed and breakfast in Bathgate. We chose it because it was not far from Glasgow and about 20 minutes from Edinburgh airport. But it was very clean and had everything we needed. Mary met us at the door and settled us in. The room was slightly small for 4 people, but it worked. Not far from restaurants and other amenities in downtown Bathgate. Parking and breakfast included.

- Ross (10/5): - Host very approachable and helpful, couldnt have wished for better service
- Michelle (10/5): - The Gables is a very cute B&B conveniently located about 25 minutes from the Edinburgh airport, and was perfect for our last night in country. It had a room that had beds to accomodate 4 of us in one room, and the area is quiet and the location easy to find. Our host was very flexible with our arrival time and greeted us at the door when we arrived. There were 4 of us winding down a 10 day visit to Scotland with all our accompanying luggage. We were even allowed a bit of additional space to sort through our belongings and repack properly before heading to the airport in the morning. The room and en suite washroom was clean and well appointed. Our host explained the use of everything and was very helpful. Breakfast in the morning was delicious and plentiful. We had everything we needed and it was a great final experience to round out our trip! The only downside was that we had quite a bit of luggage to get up the stairs as there is no lift on the property, but most B&B's do not have a lift, and we knew that going in. Thank you for a wonderful stay!
- Susan (10/5): Bathgate belter. - Stayed here for 3 nights. Very clean. Spacious twin room. Lovely white soft towels. Water and biscuits, tea and coffee making in the room.lovely fresh breakfast cooked to order. Owners very friendly and hospitable

Very accommodating

- Melody (10/5): - Great stay! Host was wonderful, just what we needed on our last night in Scotland.
- Dale (10/5): - Nice out of the way place to stay.
- Benjamin (10/5): - Was a nice stop over on our road trip. This little bed and breakfast is operated with love by the owner. Rooms were clean and the communication was good. Breakfast was a typical British breakfast spread (eggs, bacon, beans, etc), though made with much more care than you can get in bigger hotels… good enough that we all finished it which we couldn’t do elsewhere!
- bob (10/5): - Mary, our host, was lovely. Very friendly and helpful. The Gables is a cute, quaint building. Our room and bed were on the small side but both were comfortable. Easy bus ride from Edinburgh and train ride from Glasgow.
- Agnes (10/5): - We cannot say enough about how wonderful Mary was during our stay, and we stayed here when we first arrived in Edinburgh, and again on our way back home. Comfortable rooms, great service, excellent breakfast. Mary herself was wonderful, friendly, helpful when we were planning our days and travels. We would definitely recommend Gables B&B, and would stay here again. Thank you so much Mary!
- Ralph (10/5): - I liked everything
- Helen (10/5): Lovely independent b&b -
Warm friendly welcome, excellent sleep and tasty breakfast. Parking on site and a very good nights sleep after travelling thank you very much
- Tim (8/5): - The property was easy to find but when u Google map it use the postal code not the address. Theres 2 places with same address and there 25 minutes apart. breakfast was good rooms were nice ,bus was a few minutes away. Our 1st time at a bed and breakfast and we're quite with our stsy.
- Peggy (10/5): - Very gracious hostess, good breakfast

- Nicola (10/5): - We loved our stay at The Gables and will definitely be returning. Everything was fantastic, from the comfy beds to the delicious breakfast.
Mary was a brilliant host, and nothing was too much trouble. She had even put a creme egg on our side plates, which was a lovely touch this Easter Sunday.
It was much nicer than staying in a generic hotel, and much better value.
I can highly recommend The Gables
- Ben (10/5): - Probably the most comfortable bed i have ever slept in
