• Ron (9/5): A comfortable stay in a beautiful place. - The hotel is beautifully sited above a loch. There is a nature reserve close by. We had a comfortable cabin and a great host. Wi fi was intermittent in the cabin (but fine in the hotel lounge)

• john (9/5): - Handy to restaurants, supermarket. Quiet location. North Island ferry terminal 20 min drive. Lerwick a 30 min drive. Lerwick has lots of tourists, while Brea provides opportunities to interact with locals. Friendly helpful staff. Recommend.

Very limited buffet on bank Holiday Monday, no yoghurt, only 1 choice of tinned fruit, no fresh fruit, and very poor quality bread, no pastries. The second morning the buffet was much better. Dining room needs some love, some nice plants and local art, background music.

As a bonus point, the local Up Helly Aa takes place on the road just past the hotel There are few shops and restaurants within walking distance from the hotel, but it wasn't a big problem for me.

Card was wrongly charged for someone else's meal in the restaurant. Had to open a case with Booking as the hotel didn't get back to me. Very blasé response when they did, and they didn't offer anything in good will, so poor customer service given the misuse of my card.

• jean (5/5): Not what we expected, disappointing restaurant. No staff. - The hotel was very clean. It’s a large building. Shields on walls very interesting. The venue reminded me of a school, when looking up the buildings it was built to a dormitory’s style to cater for the work force. Corridors were decorated with rough paint which exposed the bricks. The restaurant was large with a smaller sitting area. The hotels guests contained a large group of people touring by bus alongside couples and workmen working in Shetland. The tour bus guests appeared to be priority over other guests staying in hotel. We waited nearly 2 hours despite being booked in. We declined to wait and walked to the local coop shop to purchase sandwich’s. The hotel offered a set menu which didn’t have a price. There appeared to be only 4 staff serving food and drinks to around 60 people. The staff were running from bars and kitchen. Guests names being shouted out to receive chosen dish. We received a table no menu, had to ask, then given set menu. Waited around 1hour and gave up. Girl had forgotten. The staff were run off feet, must have said sorry to ourselves and others at least 15 times. One girl greeted male customers by saying hello gorgeous. This felt very patronising as the average age of the tour guests appeared to be around 70. Breakfast was ok. One girl serving, clearing plates etc. Again, tour groups taken over restaurant. Girl forgot our tea. Breakfast standard. We were told best breakfast in Shetland. I would dispute that.

The location is good to access the north west of the island and Brae has good facilities in the community, the leisure centre just 5mi utes away from the hotel is very good and offer very reasonably priced swimming sessions There wasn’t anything we didn’t like, it’s not a plush luxury hotel but it’s clean and comfortable

Me dijeron en recepción que, si lo llego a decir, me hubieran dado otras. Tienen bañera en lugar de plato de ducha. Las instalaciones están un poco viejas y necesitan algo de mantenimiento. Aunque el personal pone todo de su parte para subsanar las cosas que van surgiendo. El desayuno es bueno, pero eché en falta algo de fruta.

• Alexandra (7/5): Clean & comfy - The accommodation was very clean and the bed was very comfy. The shower was great. It was a 5 minute walk from a small grocery store. The view of the bay was so beautiful. The walls were very thin - the hotel felt like converted dorm rooms. The room was very warm and it wasn't possible to open the windows enough to let the cool outside air in.

One or two items did not quite match our expectations such as the coffee. What we found really useful was the very well informed and friendly staff member on the front desk; she provided lots of useful information on what to do int eh area.. The room was a bit tight for space and the shower was over a. bath. There was also a little noise from the bar next door one evening. These were just minor irritations though.

What would have happened if a guest had a nose bleed or was ill and sick or a woman had a menstrual problem? Would they have been charged and. Doesn’t the. Hotel have their own insurance to. Cover such incidents which can happen with age? Also I would have thought a DEEP CLEAN would have been sufficient. I was informed duly by the Receptionist but was so embarrassed and stressed to challenge at the time. I would implore you to ask them to reconsider and refund part of the charge - under the circumstances?

We enjoyed the music compilation at breakfast and the hotel was clean and comfortable, with parking facilities and very conveniently located for exploring the north of the island. Continental breakfast was cereal and the occasional pastry. Presliced white and brown bread. No rolls. Fried breakfast okay. Location good for ferries from Toft.

• Cqtourist (9/5): A great place to stay in Brae - Excellent position in Brae. From here it's easy to tour the north of the main island and the northern islands. We had breakfast included, and the two men who ran this must be commended - they were excellent in their service and attention. All of the staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly. Room was comfortable and reasonably spacious. Dinner meals were sometimes a bit hit and miss. The roast beef with all the trimmings was a huge serve and excellent value; the cottage pie the next night was a small portion and rather ordinary for the same price!

• Euan26 (9/5): Well run friendly hotel in a central location - Lots of positives about the Brae Hotel where we stayed from 15th-18th June 2025 the staff were very helpful, friendly and polite and always happy to help with any additional needs (longer extension cord for example) The room was comfortable clean and well presented and the communal areas were also nicely laid out and kept scrupulously clean, the food in the dining room was of a very high standard with a good variety of dishes and plenty of it. The breakfast was hot and plentiful and served at the table as opposed to the buffet service you find in a lot of places, if I had one slight criticism it would be the omission of some other Scottish items ie Tattie, scones, Lorne sausage and black/white pudding but otherwise couldn't fault it. My only real criticism about our stay would be the Northern lights lounge, I had noted this on the website and was looking forward to spending some after dinner time partaking in some local beers etc before retiring only to find that it only opened on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday (the day we arrived and the one night we just wanted to go to the room after dinner) the opening times are not on the website and the hotel bar is only available during dinner service.
• David (10/5): Great place - Enjoyed my stay. The guy on the front desk was very helpful. If I had to pick one thing, it would be having to outside to access the bar. Not really that much of an issue to be honest.
• Janet (7/5): Good hotel for a stopover. - The hotel was clean. The beds were comfortable. The shower was powerful and the bathroom spacious. The staff were all friendly and helpful.
• patrix_kp (10/5): Nice Hotel with Beautiful scenery. - Our 5 Night stay at the Brae Hotel was quite nice and comfortable. Our 6 year old child made friends with nearly all the staff. They were very helpful and accommodative in many ways, tending to our every need. Brae Hotel is in a beautiful area and is situated in a very ideal location. It is in middle of Shetlands & very close a Co-op. We were very pleased with the Quality of Food served. The Restaurant was kept neat and clean. Initially the only room available was a double, was a bit small we thought. The staff went out of there was to provide us a big room with a Gorgeous view. Hats-off to them. We would like to thank Tiffany, David, Blair, Andrea & Callum for all their help and assistance. They have a strong commitment to customer satisfaction and success. Thank you.
• Wunjot (7/5): Good Brae Hotel With Lovely Staff - From check-in to check-out all the staff were very friendly and helpful. They really made this hotel. The hotel is very easy to find and is in a great location for exploring Northern Shetland. The rooms are quite dated, but this is reflected in the price, it's a much cheaper option than staying in Lerwick. We had a good overnight stop. No shelf in bathroom to put toiletry bag/products on. We had fish for our evening meal and it was a bit dry and overcooked. The cooked breakfast in the morning was the same.

• Rob (6/5): A convenient place to stay for exploring Northmavine. - The young staff were friendly, helpful and hard working. Dinner and breakfast were 'ok' but it felt like mass catering rather than restaurant standard.

• Owen (8/5): Nothing pretentious or unsettling - everthing nicely simple and functional - > BRILL Breakfast > amazing attentive & friendly / helpful staff > relaxed yet fully functional as a good hotel should be > good central location > always plenty of hot water - > the occasions we had fresh mussels / local fish on menu - this would be a bonus if offered more often or as special advance order (I would pay well for delight of a local lobster or crab or whole baked fish) > dog barking/howling for short periods quite late at night and early morning - intermittent and not consistent - sometimes none at all. Woken 2-3 times from sleep. Hotel was aware of issue. Dogs in a small compound across the road from room reacted manically when other dogs were walked past or person came near. > was not initially made aware that the restaurant would also serve the bar room menu >room was not as warm as wished but opening windows for fresh air - great!
• Trevor (7/5): Great place to stay with friendly saff only spoilt by the evening foods - The stay was good but let down by evening meals. The breakfast was superb served by very competent staff. The evening meals were very disappointing and expensive. The property was fine comfortable and clean.

• Gael (9/5): Comfortable overnight at the Brae hotel - Comfortable stay at the Brae hotel. Staff were all helpful & friendly. We were able to store our bikes safely which we were grateful for. The hotel is a little dated but clean and comfortable. We really enjoyed our evening meal & cooked breakfast! Nothing
• Sharon (10/5): Good Location, friendly staff and excellent daily menu change. - Friendly staff and clean rooms in a good location for travelling around the Shetland Isles.
• Gordon (10/5): - It was our first time in Shetland and from the day we arrived the staff could not have done anything more for us they went over and above to help us with places to go things to see . We arrived 5 hours early and they still let us check in so we could catch up on some sleep, Scott and Curtis are just fantastic they also go over and above to help they so friendly and happy which was nice to see and the singing was not to bad either ,The hotel is located in a very central location as there is a Chinese five minutes up the road and a chippy two minutes walk down from the hotel and a coop at the bottom of the hill , that is of course if you don’t want to eat in the hotel as the food is just as good too. I would certainly recommend this hotel.
• Carol (10/5): We would stay here again! - Very good meals here and very friendly and helpful staff. Checking in a very friendly and helpful young man told us about a place nearby to visit (cliffs overlooking sea) and it was a gorgeous place and a highlight of our trip. none
