Guest Reviews
- frederick (10/5): - Clean, great shower with lots of hot water. Staff excellent. Nice bar, locals were nice with good conversations. Bonus was last night there, locals had music night which was very enjoyable and entertaining. Nothing
- Stephen (8/5): quite night in great location and good value for money - location No working wifi, couldn't get the tv to work
- Elizabeth (10/5): Interesting old village - Friendly, welcoming pub
- brian (10/5): -
- Catarina (4/5): - The staff was really friendly. The hotel is quite old, photos don't really match how dated it is. There were hairs in the shower and there was rubbish in the bins already when we arrived, it seems like the staff forgot to take the previous guest's rubbish.
- Guest (7/5): All in all was a nice experience kind off old fashioned , no complaints.👌 - A toilet in my room would have been an excellent idea.Getting up in the middle of the night was a hindrance. That totally ruined my nights sleep.
That was the only fault I could find.
Comfy room quite pleasant . Anna was very helpful she too was very pleasant.
- Jacoby (10/5): - Comfortable and cheap. The folk band was good too
- Jacoby (10/5): -
- Barrie (10/5): - Lovely hotel in a lovely area .Friendly locals and staff. Stayed on a Sunday night ,bar closed at 10pm and very quiet Nothing
- Wright (4/5): - Good location No facilitiesin room, stated ironing facilities but nothing there in the room I had to take my clothes through the pub if I wanted to iron them. Tiny tv, no towels on arrival, and the room just looked like it hadn't been cleaned, especially the bathroom. Although it was cheap, that is no excuse for it not being clean.
- Leon (Lee) (4/5): - While we love cats unfortunately two of our party have an allergy to them and there was cat hair all over the carpets and beds, an extra ‘bonus’ was a pile of cat sick on the landing the next morning.
- brian (10/5): -
- DAVID (8/5): -
- Alison (8/5): Very enjoyable overnight stop in a friendly village-centre pub - The staff and all the locals in the bar were extremely friendly and made us feel very welcome. That includes our two dogs who were well fussed over. We’d also add that the village was very pleasant. It would have been nice to have had breakfast although we knew in advance that it wasn’t available. However the golf club cafe just a few yards away filled the gap for us.
- Zahira (4/5): Fine for the price - Staff are all lovely. Nice atmosphere downstairs in bar. Food was good. Anyone that does not like cats should avoid this hotel as the owners cat runs around the landings freely, I wish I read the previous reviews about the cat. I also could not leave my room in the morning as it was sitting directly outside my room watching me and sadly wouldn’t move when I tried to usher it away. This won’t be a bother for people who don’t have a phobia.
Mattress and pillows a bit uncomfortable but fine for the price.
- Becce (6/5): -
- David (6/5): Matters to hard for the wife ok for me out like a light. But it could be down to the alcohol consume -
- Stephen (2/5): We booked the hotel as a bed for the night after a wedding at a nearby loacation. The bed turnwd out to be the worst par - The staff were very friendly. The bed is the worst and most uncomfortable I have ever slept in. It felt like it was older than me.
The shower was stupidly tiny too.

- Ben (7/5): It was ok. - Staff were very friendly. Liked the fact it was dog friendly. Had all amenities that were required. Good location in a pleasant village just off A9. Unfortunately, the room was a little dated and could have been cleaner. Cobwebs on lightfittings. The mattress was uncomfortable with no decent pillows. Road noise outside was loud. Didn't have a great sleep. Shame as could be great.
- Becca (8/5): - Very reasonable price for a comfy room, great for a stop over as I was attending a wedding. Late check out is great. Would stay again
- Kenneth (8/5): Surprisingly nice fire a very good price. AND, just downstairs for a fly pint! - Budget hotel/local pub room above the main bar. Room was period but good quality furniture. Modern en-suite. No intrusive noise from the bar below. Nothing
- Robert (7/5): -
- James (10/5): - All worked well!
- Caroline (7/5): Could be quieter but it was a Saturday night! - Nice room, kind staff lady helped us to the room. Room was right above the bar so it was hard to sleep until the bar was closed after midnight. Ok if you're out late yourself that's fine.
- Colin (10/5): Fabulous - Really comfortable room. Great friendly staff. Ideal accommodation in a small village. Really comfortable room. Great friendly staff. Ideal accommodation in a small village.
- YOSHIKO (9/5): 快適でした。 - スタッフの女性がとてもフレンドリーで親切 お湯はよく出ましたがちょっと設備が古い
- Carrie (8/5): - Look I'm not going to lie it is what it is and to be honest my expectations were low because it was budget friendly for my business needs. It's not pretentious and if that's what you're after then just don't. If you're looking for somewhere clean and cozy to sleep then go for it.
We didn't intend to have dinner but we did as it looked lovely, and as we discovered tasted lovely too. Honest food with a quirky twist and a good pint and being a picky vegetarian that says a lot for me (you feel included -if you know you know)
Anna was absolutely lovely friendly and took time to answer questions and engage with all her customers!
We also were fortunate to meet Annie and Larry - a charming elderly pair of cats who have seen it all. We're cat people but I knew that Anna was there to round them up if we were not...Anyway cats choose you lol.
Summing it - up it's a wee gem, down to earth, clean, budget friendly and unpretentious. Maybe it's my age but I didn't like the idea of a bathroom not in your room. It was completely private with our own key and next to the room and I guess it's just the quirks of an old building and once I got my head around it, it didn't really matter, I mean I don't have an en suite at home.
- David (4/5): I will not be back - The bed was comfortable and the bottle of fresh milk in the mini-fridge was a nice touch. A single room with a double bed squeezed in, the room carpet was gritty, the two smoke alarm bases in the ceiling were empty of alarms, the drawer fronts on the dresser were streaked with spillage, the TV had severe pixel problems, and the "en-suite" bathroom was across a landing and down a few stairs. There was also a badly secured cable on the next flight of stairs presenting a trip hazard. The unsecured mirrors leaning against the wall in both the bedroom and bathroom had not seen a duster for long enough.
- Guest (10/5): Great Location Great Stay - The room was spacious and very quiet.
We also had dinner that was very good and the service was warm and friendly
- carol (9/5): Good hotel in nice location with helpful friendly staff - Comfortable. Staff kindly let us in early as we were attending a wedding nearby It was good for the price
- Macleod (7/5): Friendly staff and live music was a bonus ! - They don't do breakfast
- Fenton (8/5): I'd stay again if breakfast was available - Anna behind the bar was outstanding. I prefer to have breakfast on site rather than elsewhere at extra cost
- SEAMONS (10/5): Ticked all the boxes and would stay there again - Great location easy parking and friendly staff and great selection of beer and spirits 👍
- Emilie (9/5): Lovely inn, recommend 100% - Great location. Such a lovely village. The staff was so kind, welcoming and accommodating. Dog friendly. Great food as well. Honestly a little gem.
- Thoenni57 (9/5): - Wir wurden freundlich empfangen. Das Bett war bequem. In der Nachbarschaft kann man gut spät noch essen gehen.
- Alec (9/5): - Excellent value for money
Friendly staff
Nice room
- Karen (10/5): - Friendly staff and good food. There on a sunny evening so enjoyed beer garden.
- ian (9/5): Great food & really friendly place for a stopover - Really friendly place, obviously popular with locals too which was nice to see, though staff also took the time to look after us. Great food & local beer, easy parking & a nice village to stroll around after our meal. Only one chair in a room for two, but didn't really bother us
- Alison (10/5): -
- michael (8/5): Excellent value and location, helpful staff. - Breakfast not included Nothing really, very good value.
- Tom (9/5): - A friendly welcome, comfortable room and good evening meal. All was fine.
- Lauren (10/5): - Great room, great friendly staff, very welcoming and fantastic food. Will definitely be staying again, very reasonably priced.
- Guest (8/5): Clean and friendly and spot-on for an overnight stop. - Warm welcome and well looked after. Inclusive packed lunch for the following day was very much appreciated. Somewhat dated premises but clean and very friendly staff and ideal for an overnight stop. On Monday's they have an all you can eat curry night for about £11 so we scored on that account too.
- Manana (10/5): I had perfect time in beautiful Dunning. -
- Carol (6/5): Satisfactory. Curry buffet was excellent. - There was no breakfast. I found this confusing - I thought b'fast was available at the golf course - instead, I got a free packed - lunch! Very small room. Difficult to open window. Private bathroom a few steps from the bedroom via a stair-well - not en suite.
- Banerjee (8/5): -
- Gordon (10/5): Magic - Staff and beer garden
- Tom (9/5): - Friendly welcome and a good meal and evening in the bar. All fine.
- Antony (5/5): Be careful if allergic to cats -
- Fanos (10/5): Fantastic - Everything the staff the place the location.Come on there is a piano in my room it is fantastic the place definitely coming back.
Fire pit in the beer garden the best place to stay at.
Folk music at the bar on Tuesday night.
The place is perfect Nothing could have been better
- Paul (1/5): Shameful - The village The smell outside the dirty doorway the stink of frying in the whole building going through noisy bar to find room was above noisy bar … and so goes on. Did not stay and they not graceful and gracious enough to refund. Defensive in response. Don’t care about good or bad reviews. I don’t like to give bad review but this experience was horrible.
- Jakki (9/5): Quirky charming atmospheric and friendly . - Quirky little bar local musicians were having a wee jamming session . So nice to see and hear especially the Accordion. The room was lovely nostalgic furniture added to its charm . The mini fridge with a proper bottle o fresh milk made my stay the best . Better than uht pots . That milk makes a huge difference to a lot of people certainly for me .
Clean comfortable and friendly it’s the small touches that make a stay great. . No breakfast available cafe near by but not open for early departure. Not a reflection on the property as it was charming.
- Bernard (4/5): Friendly but room for i
mprovement - The welcome was friendly and helpful. The lady told us of breakfast options locally and offered a packed lunch should we want it.
Friendly atmosphere in the bar downstairs The poorly lit "private bathroom " was not next to our room, it was across a landing and up/down some stairs. Not ideal, especially in the middle of the night.
The room was small and cramped - the sash window was jammed open with a piece of wood.
There were no smoke alarms in the room.
Although this is "Hotel" it is essentially a room above a pub. Nothing wrong with that but it's worth noting .
The Hotel needs investment and improvement .
- Jane (8/5): A wee gem of a place - How friendly the staff and locals were Nothing
- Louise (10/5): - Fantastic room, warm welcome, comfortable bed, hot shower, definitely have a pizza while you are there and a hot chocolate at the bar before bed.
Brilliant little booklet in my room about walks around Dunning
- Linda (10/5): The Dunning Hotel was exactly what I needed for my visit to Perth. Thank you everyone. - The hotel didn’t offer breakfast but the lady very kindly gave me a packed brunch/lunch that I had later that day. That was on my first day.
- Dave (8/5): -
- Alec (9/5): Kind and friendly staff and accommodation at an unbeatable price - Amazing value for money
Pleasant village location
kind and friendly staff
- Tom Kennedy (9/5): an enjoyable stay - a friendly welcome from Anna at the bar and immediately shown to my room above. Comfortable bed and nice ensuite facilities. it turns out Monday night is curry night followed by locals playing music in the bar. Very enjoyable. A short walk to the remarkable St Serf's church is well worth it. I would stay again if I was travelling in the area.
- Keith (6/5): - Budget accommodation, clean with friendly staff above a busy local pub
- Tony (9/5): Excellent - Friendly people, lovely vibe, great food
- William (6/5): quirky, quaint and old - staff, meal, quaint village room was basic, fittings old and bed uncomfortable
- Paul (7/5): - Arrived to find the hotel closed and looking closed down. However once opened it was lively and vibrant. Room was nicely traditional if a little care worn. Food in the bar was good and the environment friendly and welcoming. Should really advise it is closed until 5pm.
- Fletcher (9/5): Tandem tour of Fife and Perthshire. - Location. The Monday night curry buffet. Food, wine. The bar. Live music jamming session. Liked the village of Dunning and the surrounding area. Would have liked breakfast on the premises but not too far to the cafe along the road. Room was small but that was reflected in the price. Private bathroom not en suite but again reflected in the price, so all good.
- juudjv (7/5): -
- Neil & Lorraine (8/5): Great authentic Hotel with nothing a problem lovely staff - Great experience and place to start to explore the surrounding areas for the price. Although the room was tired (which was expected for the age of the pub), it was very comfy, cosy, and the Hotel had a great atmosphere at the bar and dinner area with really good food and staff. We would stay again. Nothing really,
- Sarah (2/5): Wouldn't recommend. Will book elsewhere when I go back to Perth. - Lady who ran hotel was lovely and Perth is such a lovely place. The cat that was running around the place was physically sick all outside my room door. Shower was mouldy and not pleasant.
- Adriana (10/5): - Location was what I needed, staff was extremely nice and helpful, food was great, room was ok. Parking was good and room was quiet. Was perfect for me. I like a hard bed and here the bed was on the soft side for me. It was comfortable, though.
- Ian (8/5): -
- Angus (9/5): Friendly hotel - Friendy and easy check-in with a great comfortable room Good location
- Magdalena Gluszak (10/5): - Friendly service. Warm and clean. Great food.
- Veikko (8/5): -
- Huw (9/5): Very pleasant stay - Location was great and host couldn't have been more helpful. Great food.
- Sheila (7/5): It did what it needed to do, a bed for night! - Lots of character furniture in the room. Wee fridge box contained fresh milk in a bottle. The bed was comfortable and we were warm enough. Our room was above the bar, so was noisy. Although booking was for 2 people, there was only one set of towels. There was some rubbish in the beside drawer. The shelf above the sink in the shower room had not been cleaned (for some time, I’d guess!), so the rims of the drinking glasses would have required washing before use (we didn’t use them). We noticed that smoke alarms on the ceiling seemed to be absent.
- Emrys (8/5): Exactly what I needed, a good value room immediately round the corner from my appointment. Thanks - Really friendly welcome and good food served quickly. A very good stay.
- Donald (9/5): Great stay, quiet and very welcoming. - It was quiet and comfortable. Outside it was cold and windy, but the room was warm and quiet. Great food and atmosphere downstairs in the pub. Surprisingly, in my room I couldn't hear the noise of the pub, even though my room was directly above it. I was well looked after, too, by staff. The bathroom was private but it wasn't ensuite, so had to go out of the room to access it. It was alright, though, not too bothersome.
- Richard (10/5): Friendly nice room - Friendly staff good room and dog friendly no charge for dogs Nothing
- Charmaine (9/5): - It has a village feel, very friendly, locals came for dinner at the pub best curry I have tasted in a while, and then the locals having a jam session was amazing. Loved it all, it was an authentic pub experience in old Scotland. Best Haggis for breakfast as well.
- Ray (5/5): -
- Jeremy (8/5): -
- kurt de baets (7/5): - Vriendelijke ontvangst en bediening in restaurant en ontbijt in golfclub naast het hotel Kleine kamertje , weinig ruimte in kamer , ook al was er daar alles wat we nodig hadden ....
- Catherine (8/5): - Cheap, peaceful village location, lovely live music in the bar The room had a bit of an odd odour but everything seem clean and the bathroom was immaculate
- Derek (9/5): Great little hotel run by very friendly people. - Have stayed here several times. It's basic, but very friendly and matched the room rate. Try and stay on a Monday night. The local folk musicians jam in the bar, and they have a curry night. Have a walk around Dunning too. It has history. Nothing.
- Rupert (10/5): - Small, homely and comfortable. Friendly welcome with locals in the bar and delicious home made food. Warm room with a comfortable bed. Simple pleasures done very well at a reasonable price
- Neil (3/5): Inexpensive but in need of a complete refurb - Convenience and price Cleanliness, bed comfort, general wear and tear.
- Gemma (8/5): comfortable and pleasant - comfortable and clean accommodation, suitable for our needs, very friendly staff
- Susangraham (10/5): -
- Barry James (10/5): -
- David (7/5): It was an overnight resting place and great for that. - n/a On my room (which was cheaper I believe as a result) the bathroom was a short distance away.
- Laura (6/5): -
- Gary (9/5): - Very clean , friendly staff and excellent food.
- Aurora (9/5): - Very friendly and attentive staff. Dinner in the pub and breakfast (at the local golf course) very amazing, particularly dinner.
The room itself was perfect for a short stay, with a very comfortable bed. Totally recommend the Dunning!
- Barry (9/5): -
- Caroline (5/5): Pleasant and friendly, with good pub dinner, basic rooms but good price. Beds could be updated. - Excellent, at the local cafe golf club. mattress was old and worn and with my bad back, not a comfortable night
- Jonathan (9/5): Friendly staff, excellent value - Staff were very accommodating and friendly
- John (10/5): John - Lovely staff. Curry buffet on Monday nights excellent.
The jam session of musicians on the night was at first a turn off but the folk music they played was great, no amplifiers or loud speakers, lovely people to talk to as well.
Although I went to bed early they did not keep me awake.
Will definitely stay again. Nothing
