- Rebecca (7/5): A comfortable nights sleep. - The staff in the bar were very friendly and approachable. The room itself was tastefully decorated with rustic furniture and a very comfortable bed. The room had is own private ensuite modern air conditioning and most importantly - tea and coffee making facilities. It was a last minute booking for me after a long drive to Essex and I'd happily return.
- Radford (10/5): - The room was clean beds were very comfy Little noise sat night
- Paul (7/5): Found value for money - Lots of space Banging noise of heating and no bin in main room
- Terry (8/5): -
- Barrie (5/5): The stay was functional - The staff were first class, cheerful and friendly Comfort and shower
- Alick (8/5): - Filthy
- Kimberly (4/5): Wouldn’t book again - Third time staying here and will be the last Not worth the money! Bathroom was filthy, piss left in the toilet. No toilet roll. Stains all over the stink and marks up the wall.
There was two unplugged mini fridges left in our tiny room at the end of the beds so even less space in an already small room
- Huw David (2/5): Left a day early as unsatisfactory. Would not recommend. - Beds were ok. Generally a bit shabby. No food at all. Unable to connect to the WiFi. Pub tatty & noisy. Massive plant growth to gutters with pigeons nesting in it.
- Polly (1/5): Grim. - Close to venue Filthy. Rooms not cleaned. Someone’s sock in the room. Dead flies.
- Denis (9/5): -
- Blanchard (4/5): Stay was ok, nothing special, could be but more looked after in the bathroom. - ——- ———
- Tim (3/5): Nice hotel need to sort noise in bedroom - The room was large and comfortable We were in room 9 and there was a banging noise every 5 minutes all through the night. We had real trouble sleeping. Told afterwards may have been from an air conditioning unit for the pub part of the hotel. No staff on duty at night or next morning to talk about it (which we knew). Can share video of noise.
- Christopher (6/5): - It was close to the party we was attending It was very tied and need updating but the bedding and towels was very clean
- Jakub (10/5): -
- Jessica (1/5): Awful - Close to my event Everything. It was dirty, smelt bad, there was mold in the bathroom, sink was tiny and smelt, cups were dirty, kettle was horrible with old water left inside, lots of clutter at bottom of the stairs and also a fridge at the top of the stairs blocking the way a little. Also had no working tv and the heating didn’t work.
- Marie (1/5): Avoid - Car parking Cold, only an air con unit for heating over your bed. Radiators didn’t work.
Pillow only 1, sleeping on a price of A4 paper would have been more comfortable.
Bathroom mouldy, no loo roll, bathroom mirror only suitable for 6’5 people
Noise from the pub which is actually a night club !
Great place to stay if your into clubbing
- Ade (5/5): -
- Fredericka (10/5): -
- Davidjgullane (10/5): - All of it Not breakfast
- Michelle (7/5): - To many dodgy people hanging around
- Gerard (6/5): Ordinary - Central location No wardrobe or clothes hanging facility
- Christopher (10/5): I had a wonderful time, the staffs were nice and the location is good. - The Ambience Nothing
- Gosia (5/5): Cheap and fit for purpose of staying a night. - Good location, friendly staff. Easy access to the room. So much noise during the night, tiny corridor separating the room stank horribly.
- Shirley (5/5): Simple changes to make perfection - Location / staff perfect , bed lined and towels absolutely perfect comfortable beds and great to bag e tea making facilities The room which we stayed in before is like the room that time stood still , same poor interior , walls really need to be repainted / sanded all woodwork and some time aka effort put into making this family room better
- david (9/5): -
- Linda (3/5): - Location Dirty, smell of smoke, not very secure.
- Christopher (8/5): -
- Tunaulu (7/5): -
- Lynda (7/5): One night at the Dorrington - The accommodation /bathroom was basic, but clean throughout. We booked two rooms for one night with a separate shared bathroom WC between the two. Tea, coffee and kettle provided to make your own cuppa. Bed was pretty comfy, even for my partner, who has back trouble! Room was a bit chilly at night, but we couldn't figure out the digital thermostat. We were told there was a ramp to access the rooms as my partner uses a wheelchair, sadly there wasn't.
- Becky (2/5): Dive - Nothing in room : Boarded up window, toilet seat too small for toilet so you literally fell in the toilet when sitting on it. No one maning the bar, maintenance guy had to serve and check people in. Heating didn't work..... No handle on bathroom cupboard door, absolute dive.....
Wardrobe placed next to bed so doors couldn't open.....
- Jamie (6/5): Great central location - Nice and central in Halstead. There was an issue that was very well dealt with by extremely understanding and professional management.
- angela (6/5): - Wasn't't very organised on booking my poor mother couldn't get up the stairs without a handrail but they did re locate our room The price
- Alex (6/5): Not bad - Great location, you get limited choice when travelling with pets, this was OK, bed linen was clean and mattress comfortable can't ask more for the price.
- Davidson (1/5): Stay at home - Nothing Everything
- Gordon (5/5): Bed comfortable staff very pleasent - No wardrobe bathroom taps and sink had limescale on them and bath taps constantly dripping
- Lee (7/5): - Room was good. Very clean. The night club downstairs was extremely loud and went on until 2am!
- Garry (8/5): -
- Serle (7/5): Good size room and good value for money - Location excellent. Room size (deluxe family room) and en suite were massive. Good value for money. Decor war tired - cracks in paint and peeling in en suite. Some tiles cracked in en suite and the fit of the shower curtain wasn't ideal (water all over the floor after use). Carpet could do with a wet/dry vacuum but as it was dog-friendly not bad at all. Entrance foyer was full of pigeon feathers and reception was only while the bar was open. Having said all of this I would stay here again quite happily.
- Steve (9/5): Would definitely stay again if in the area - Good room, nice pub
- Julien (8/5): -
- Sam (3/5): Disappointing - The room was big It hadn’t been cleaned fully and there was still the last guests rubbish in the bins and on the floor. Thankfully the beds had been changed though.
- Chris (6/5): Convenient - Location first of all for the event we were attending. Clean, but you expect that as a minimum. No full length mirror and clothes hanging space in the room. Stayed 2 nights but tea/coffee/biscuits not replenished after first. Some light bulbs not working. Only one pillow per single bed. Woke up by fire alarm through whole pub at 5am, no fire thankfully but no one on prem to deal, so we left earlier than intended.
- jacqueline (2/5): Overall would not recommend - Not much to be honest but Kya was very helpful in organising taxes for us which we appreciated very much We didn’t have high expectations so not disappointed but the fire alarm sounded at 5am so everyone in rooms were outside 5.45am still no sign of anyone or fire brigade which was worrying to say the least! Alarms still ringing we left so left
- Lisa (7/5): Ideally located, clean and value for money. - Easy to get to and ideal for access to Halstead, a lovely little town. When we arrived we weren’t too keen with the access to our room, the stairs up were shabby and access was from where the bins were kept. However, the room was lovely and it really wasn’t thought about again.
- hicks (6/5): - it had space. the shower didn't stay hot for very long. the TV had no signal so couldn't watch it. the pub was a bit noisy. two of the beds were falling apart. very rickety. bathroom wasn't very clean.
- Paul (5/5): Rough, but just about acceptable. - Free parking Decor a little rough and under maintained, layout of the room was odd in relation to sockets and light switches, the room odour was a bit off and finally our tv did not work.
THE HOTEL DID NOT EVEN KNOW WE HAD A ROOM BOOKED, UPON CHECK IN.
- GARY (10/5): Just good - Good No comment
- Peter (7/5): - Easy to find, with parking available behind the building. The host was friendly and communication was smooth. We had a room upstairs. The room and bathroom were spacious. Both a bit dated, but perfectly fine for a one-night stopover. A few shops are nearby.
- Bruce (9/5): - The room was really good and clean and the staff were welcoming The bar entrance/reception is not as good as the rooms and a little attention with a dustpan and brush to communal areas would be good.
- Ruth (8/5): - How close to shops and amenities
Friendly Staff
Good value for money Nothing
- Paolo (3/5): Unfortunately wouldn’t stay again due to noise - Location was good for me and the price The noise was horrendous, it sounded like there was a family of elephants upstairs, there was no soundproofing and I could hear every footstep that sounded like they were going to come through the ceiling, also the room next door left at 5am and the slamming of the shared entrance woke me up then the noise upstairs kept me awake
Nowhere to hang clothes up
- Wendy (8/5): We need the room for one night before our early flight so it fit our needs perfectly. - We had a late check in and had to check in at the bar which was pretty busy but the staff were very welcoming. The room was larger and more comfortable than we expected. Seems like it’s in a great location. The carpet is worn and dirty.
- Gary (8/5): -
- Krisztina (3/5): - Staff was kind The place is dirty. The carpet sould be replaced as it is VERY dirty. Toilet seat was visibly dirty.
- wright (10/5): - Excellent place to stay
- Grzegorz (5/5): - The location is generally not bad (just a few minutes from the main road) and the pub downstairs is convenient,
The service was very friendly and helpful as possible. Generally not bad value for money if you don't have better option. The room was pretty small. It was quite clean, but there were some spider webs on the window frames and the toilet doors hardly closed.
- Marsh (7/5): Great price. lovely staff would definitely stay again. - Nice room with Aircon. Great location Bathroom could do with some tlc and TV worked but picture wasn't great must of been damaged before.
- Will Brotherhood (5/5): -
- Peter (8/5): Great value for money!! - It had a great air con unit that was very effective. Didn’t expect that for the price we paid! It was great!!
- Margaret Cochrane (8/5): - Location in Village
- Adam (8/5): - It has everything you could need for a reasonable price. Most of all, the staff are exceptional; they exhibit a natural tone to exceptional customer service, as opposed to the almost un-relatable service seen in formally higher graded establishments.
- Michelle (8/5): -
- Sharon (10/5): Clean, Convenient Location - The staff were very friendly and helpful. Although dated, extremely clean. Even though we were very near the door to the pub it was unexpectedly quiet throughout the weekend. There was a fan in our room which was very convenient. Great location convenient to pubs and shops. There were no hand towels in the bathroom. No hairdryer in the room.
The single mattress was very uncomfortable. There were plenty of plug sockets. Unfortunately, two were in an awkward area above the stairs. An extension lead would have been handy to be able to use these.
- Stephen (2/5): Awful place - Staff where sympathetic and very helpful Cleanliness room allocations, poor advertising, noisy, looked very tired, broken windows, damaged fire doors, no bathroom doors, shared bathrooms. Infestation of ants,
- Casebow (9/5): - Room had air con and was good value for money. Also bar closed at 11:00 which was great. Basic furniture in bathroom, but everything worked and was comfortable.
- Lisa (10/5): Our family live in London and when ever we have a gathering or celebration they always stay here. They have tried other - Great service, good spacious clean rooms. N/a
- Michelle (8/5): -
- Christopher (9/5): -
- Andrea (4/5): Convenient stay - Location within Halstead was excellent.
We were attending a party at the Dorrington.
Staff were friendly and helpful.
Room was large. Carpet within the property leading to our room and within the room was stained and needing hoovering. Bathroom had large amounts of mould on the ceiling and cracked floor tiles leaving sharp edges. Shower tray was stained and the temperature setting erratic. Blinds in the bedroom were broken. Paint was peeling off the bedroom walls. Plaster around the window above the bed was cracked. Bed was clean but was exceptionally soft. Sadly this room needs a lot of updating before renting out again.

- Dorrie (1/5): -
- joy (8/5): Gave us a good night's sleep after a family party -
- Kion (8/5): The Dorrington - I have stayed here before. Nothing
- MARIA (10/5): - The staff is amazing, friendly, very helpful, the room was huge, clean, comfortable bed. The location can't be better. Check in and out was easy.
Thank you very much.

- Callie (8/5): -
- Tiff (9/5): - The staff were fab and very friendly. I left my glasses but after a quick phone call, they were posted back to me the very next day - very grateful!
- Lee (6/5): -
- robert (7/5): Ok for a night stay, lady we met was very nice and welcoming - Location Shower was like warm
- Paul (9/5): -
- Muzzah (1/5): Won’t be coming back - The shower Constant noise for about 15 minutes after midnight. Air con didn’t work - machine taken to 28 degrees and still chucked out cold air. Radiator didn’t work. Big rat seen running across the car park. Very poor.
- Cayley (8/5): -
- ian (10/5): -
- Eva Foldi (1/5): AVOID - Nothing There was NO HOT water. This is not a HOTEL this is a HOSTEL service.
- Edyta (9/5): -
- Rowson (3/5): Bad beds & bedding , no hot water, but staff were present - The room looked nice & clean The bed was too low & mattress so thin & soft. The pillows were so flat . Run a bath & water was almost cold .
- Gavin (1/5): Do not stay here worst place I’ve ever stayed in - We had booked a Deluxe Double Room. On arrival to the hotel, we were attended to by a friendly member of your staff that had trouble trying to find the room key, once found we was taken outside and upstairs to a room, my husband saw the embarrassment on your colleague's face as she opened the room that clearly wasn't made up and cleaned. she apologised and offered us complimentary drink in the bar while she tried to find out what was going on. After 10 minutes she come back to us and advised another room had been found for us and was ready when we were.
She took us to the opposite side of before and said that we could have the family room with a shared bathroom but no one was staying in the other room. To say we was disappointed was an understatement the room was no were near what we had booked the room was very very run down and the bathroom clearly needs a refurbishment mould around the shower, a tiny bit of toilet roll left and freezing cold especially when you're having to walk from the shower to your room and corridor was even colder. The double bed was awful as you just both rolled into the middle, no TV, nothing to hang a coat and only one radiator worked! And when in the shower the lights turn off as the sensor is by the door so you have to try and get out the shower for the lights to come back on which is quite dangerous when you step up to the shower.
This is the email I sent to the hotel but I haven’t had a reply which in my eyes says it all awful customer service!
