Guest Reviews
- Di Lullo (10/5): - This property was absolutely stunning! By far our favorite place we have ever stayed. A perfect oasis above Varenna that feels secluded but close enough to enjoy the beauty of Lake como. We can’t wait to return!
- Guest (9/5): -
- Laird (5/5): It was OK but I would not return - Grounds very impressive....well kept, although it felt like the property was closing up for the season. Views were outstanding.
Dinner first night - very impressive, one of the best meals we had in Veronna. Staff very attentive.
Breakfast next morning - full breakfast - good but overpriced. Staff still attentive.
Perledo night bus worked VERY well to return to the property at night.
The transport (25 E one direction) from the resort to the town or from town to the resort on demand during the office hours worked very well. The hotel might want to consider a shuttle service that operates at specific times during the day. No heat until we complained the day before we departed
No daily fresh towels until we complained on the night before we departed
Towels we had could not dry as there was no heat. We were supposed to get housekeeping every day but it was almost like they did not know that we were there.
Light breakfasts other mornings - staff did not appear to really want to be there and guests were an irritant.
The resort was more remote from the town of Veronna than I thought it would be. The walk to the village is more like 30 minutes and would be impossible if raining (as it would be too slippery).
- Nicholas (10/5): Very lovely - Fabulous location above Varenna. Castle was amazing
- Winnie Sze Man (10/5): - Thank you Grazia for attending my requests even after her office hour. It is a pleasant stay and the view is impressive. Just a bit far from the city.
- ianmck206 (10/5): Wonderful location, hospitality and views - Wonderful location above Varenna. Beautiful grounds with great views and vistas in multiple directions. Wonderful onsite restaurant and exceptional welcome from the staff. Our villa was wonderful and we wished we had more time in the area! You do need a car to get to this place. We had a rental car problem that meant we had less flexibility than we otherwise would have. There was a night bus during the time we were there that really helped but would have enjoyed it even more if our rental car had been available.
- Alison (9/5): Peaceful setting in the hills of Varenna with exceptional views of Lake Como - Beautiful setting up in the hills of Varenna The house was damp and a bit of mildew as set against a rock
- Jacqui (10/5): Comfortable with stunning views - The views were spectacular and staff wonderful The distance and terrain to the village was difficult
- Jérémy (10/5): Parfait - Cadre magnifique personnel, très sympathique Juste un petit peu le prix du petit déjeuner. Sinon restaurant, excellent de très bonne qualité.
- Ann (9/5): -
- Paul (10/5): Stunning views from well kept gardens - Secluded and quiet No views from balconies. Shaded by trees
- Nora (10/5): Exceptional - The property was nice and cozy, we were 8 people and everyone loved it, the swimming pool was children’s favorite thing, for adults the panoramic views. Thanks!
- Alyson (4/5): Not our best choice - Grounds were gorgeous, staff was nice. We sat by the pool one afternoon - very restful. We paid a lot of money for a very old and musty house/cottage. It was clean, but the decor was so dated it wasn’t ‘charming’ anymore.
- Carroll (10/5): Exceptional - Absolutely beautiful property, we wished we had stayed longer! The views, pools, rose gardens and cute dog were amazing. Would highly recommend!
- Richard (6/5): Pleasant - Stunning location. Friendly and helpful reception staff. Casa Christina is rather dark and too low for a great view of the lake.
The "Light Breakfast" is terrible - 10 euros for a greasy toasted sandwich, fruit drink and tea. And "not permitted" to take a bread roll from the buffet.
- Jennifer (10/5): Wonderful and memorable - Remote. Quiet. Very helpful and friendly staff.
- Andrea (10/5): Delightful rural property in great location for day trips and with helpful, friendly owners/staff, - Beautiful rural location. Enjoyed the hike of the property. Room was stocked with wonderful food and drink items. High quality toiletries. Comfortable bed and bedding. Short drive to Pienza and located well for other day trips. Enjoyed the activities offered. I would have liked the property to be a little closer to Pienza or another town so we could easily have walked to restaurants.
- Lisa (2/5): Extremely overpriced, would never stay again. - The location in terms of the views was wonderful. The landscaping of the property is beautiful. The first thing that greeted us when we were lead into our room was a can of raid bug spray! The cottage was not decorated well, very drab, cheap IKEA furniture, etc. It was advertised as having a fireplace, but that was not usable. It was damp and drab. The kitchen came with some coffee and a coffee maker, but no cream. There was no water provided. (The staff did give us a couple of bottles when we asked, though.) We were the only people staying on the property and we had an issue with our flights and could only come from one of our two nights, and they refused to refund us for the one night we were not there. I believe they should’ve made an exception considering all of the circumstances- especially that they were completely empty other than us! The restaurant wasn’t even open! Because it was beforethe season begin begins, and I believe they had just opened. But they should have taken that into consideration when they were asked to waive one of our nights day. We would absolutely never stay at this property again.
- Nitish (10/5): Very beautiful view point inside the location - Location Very difficult to reach by foot
- Saule (10/5): Exceptional -
- Greg (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michael (10/5): A special VIP oasis in the middle of Lake Como - Amazing views, beautiful lawn, olive trees everywhere, close proximity to the adorable car-free village, very kind staff, playful dog, well- appointed housing, next to the Varenna landmark castle, feels like VIP vacation experience. -
- Anna (10/5): Highly recommend! - The view is absolutely incredible. It is one of the loveliest Villas we have ever stayed at. Our house was also very comfortable, equipped with everything we needed. The staff was very helpful and easily reachable by phone. We loved everything! This has nothing to do with the Villa, but I recommend a mosquito repellent as there are a lot of mosquitos in the area generally.
- Roman (9/5): Superb -
- David (4/5): Did not meet expectations sorry I really think it could be an amazing place just needs some manageme - The view was amazing! Relaxing Our room was good , the grounds are
Over grown where you walk . After long day of travel there should be away to get any type of food and drinks . No one available after 5 or 6 very unsettling if emergency. We were stuck down in town they we doing construction we think couldn’t get ahold of anyone . Lucky we found the last car up the hill . We think it can be a great place needs better management when you aren’t from the country there should be so more help. We traveled all over Italy and had better service . Very nice provided coffee no filters kinda hard to make coffee. Very damp maybe humidifier in room would help couldn’t sleep with moldy smell . We have stayed in more expensive and much less expensive the service just isn’t there
- Sulaman (10/5): Exceptional -
- Fajer (9/5): Worth it & will comeback again - THE VIEW
PRIVACY
sharing pool
The whole space is so peaceful & calm Just wish if there was some official service we can order to pick & drop from the apartment ( the staff was very helpful when we need the gulf car ) but i wish it was an official service because u will need it alot if u have someone older with u or someone can’t walk on winding road
- Riqiang (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful view! Not easy to order a taxi (perhaps it is easier to find one in the train station). The property is located on the top of the mountain. We had to climb the steep pebble roads most of time when we went to the town center. It would be challenging for older people.
- Roth (9/5): Superb -
- Michael (1/5): Severe black mold issue. Unhealthy to stay in. Unacceptable at any cost let alone the $400 a night. Plenty of good revie - Severe black mold issue. Unhealthy to stay in. Unacceptable at any cost let alone the $400 a night. Plenty of good reviews here, but stay away- I rarely leave reviews of hotels, but feel that it is important in this case that the Agriturismo Castello di Vezio know and have the opportunity to fix the significant problem that they have and for future guests to be warned. My wife and I checked into the hotel on the 10th of June and were supposed to check out on June 13th. It had been raining in and off for a few days prior to our arrival and during our stay. It was later in the day when we checked in and when we entered the house, we stayed in Julia, there was a very musty/moldy smell. I thought that it was probably due to the rain and being closed up. We had been traveling for a couple of weeks and needed to do some laundry. We were excited to find that the house had a washing machine. Like in many parts of Europe there was no dryer. So we hung up the clothes on a drying rack in the room. That night when we went to bed, the sheets were damp and the moldy. It was difficult to sleep. We actually put the heat on low thinking that it would dry things up, but to no avail. When we got up the next morning the sun was out and we opened the windows to help get fresh air in the house. Because of the rain that night, there was water in the foyer. It must was have leaked through threshold. The clothes were still wet. We put the rack outside and went down the hill to catch a ferry to Bellagio. We enjoyed the day discovering Bellagio and Varenna. We knew it was expected to rain again around 4, so we headed back to the resort. Unfortunately, the clothes hadn’t dried on the line outside, so we planned to go back to Varenna later to dry them at a laundry mat. While back at the house we noticed black mold on the walls in the living room and the mold smell was much stronger. It was after 6pm so there was no staff at reception. They leave at 6pm and return the next day. Severe black mold issue. - Nicholas (2/5): No car? Don’t bother staying here. Stay in Varenna near the lake. - The views are excellent, the staff were pleasant and as helpful as they could be. The location was not as described. The “short walk” to Varenna is a 20 minute hike for very fit individuals, on slippery cobble stones over a path that is not lit at night. Access to and from Varenna relies on taxis that are hard to come by, or a night bus with an erratic timetable. This detracted enormously from our stay. It might work if you have a car, but this has other challenges (narrow winding road, parking in Varenna). They are building a restaurant, and promising their own shuttle bus, but they didn’t exist when we were there.
- Louis (10/5): An unforgettable, breathtaking stay! - Our stay in Varenna was nothing short of spectacular, thanks to this incredible place. From the moment we arrived, we knew we had found a true gem. The pictures really don’t do the place justice - it’s unbelievably stunning.
The place is located up a windy road but there is a more direct footpath from the stay down to Varenna. It takes around 15/20 minutes to get down and around 25/30 to get back up. The path is steep but we often walked down and got a taxi back up later in the day / evening - only walking back up maybe 2/3 times. The walk down and up is do-able but if you had any difficulty walking it may be advisable to hire a car as I know many people had done.
However, the views from the hotel are absolutely breathtaking, rivalling those of many villa gardens in the area. Each morning, we were greeted with stunning panoramas that made our stay truly magical. We enjoyed sitting having a morning coffee or evening drink listening to music overlooking the mountain and flowers - truly breathtaking, very romantic and without question the most beautiful place I’ve stayed.
The staff were amazing and exceptionally friendly, always going above and beyond to ensure our comfort and satisfaction. They provided us with some amenities to get us by as we did arrive a little late. The coffee was amazing!
Varenna itself is so beautiful, it’s everything you want from Lake Como, the views, the food, the romantic walks, Gelato - it’s very easy to get to neighbouring towns - highly highly recommend this place. Nothing - amazing!
- Kali (10/5): Stunning Views in a Peaceful Sanctuary - LOVED this gorgeous property on the hill! It’s a peaceful sanctuary away from the crowded streets in Varenna below. Stunning!! Only noise was really the chickens.
The staff was so kind and Stefano was so helpful, going above & beyond for us!
Would 100% stay here again. Only complaint would be the beds are very stiff. Not the coziest sleep ever.
- Andrea (10/5): Exceptional - The property is stunningly beautiful and peaceful. Our cottage was lovely and the staff were kind, friend,y and helpful. It is a wonderful respite from the crowds of the villages. The property is about a 10 minute drive from Varenna. There is a steep path where you can walk into town. Taxis are few and must be reserved.
- Abdullah (10/5): Highly recommended - Location & friendly staff I would suggest some lighting to be provided in the beautiful garden so people can enjoy it during night and also to make some night activities such as to set a fire in designated place in the garden
- Paula (10/5): Exceptional -
- Christine (8/5): It was lovely, just very difficult to get cab to get there, and trail to Varenna very very difficult - Location was not easy to get to,not many cabs in town or always busy. Host was fantastic, hosts drove us into town when we were leaving as there was no cabs on sunday( for a fee)
They had cereal, jams, bread for breakfast.
- Joel (9/5): Superb -
- Rosemary (8/5): Very good -
- Caroline (9/5): Superb -
- Muhammad (7/5): Amazing location, but it has 0 accessibility, except for one restaurant nearby which was still nice. Everything else was - Beautiful scenery Accessibility inconvenience
- Almas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional -
- Harriet (10/5): Absolutely perfect! Beautiful scenery, amazing views and lovey apartment - This property is stunning, most beautiful place I’ve stayed. The apartment was perfect, so peaceful, with a lovely balcony. The staff were amazing and so helpful. Can’t wait to come back,
- Nour (10/5): Beautiful and tranquil stay 10/10 would recommend!! - Absolutely stunning property. The property is even nicer than the photos which says a lot because the photos are stunning! I’m confident its the best lake views in all of lake Como. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The pools are amazing. Theres no where else I would stay in Lake Como. Small but insignificant, no daily housekeeping.
- Philip (10/5): Perfectly romantic setting with unforgettable views of lake Como. - The views across lake Como from the elevated position were unforgettable and made for the perfect romantic setting. The house was beautifully presented, spacious, clean and well equipped. The pools were clean and a welcome way to cool off on the hotter days. Nearby Varenna is a delightful town with several good places to eat and drink, bustling with people making for a great ambience. The steep walk from Varenna to the property at Vezio was a challenge but it helped preserve the tranquility by keeping the crowds away. The service team led by Stefano and Giovanna were delightful and very helpful. For a couple of days there was a group of noisy residents playing loud music around the swimming pool.
- Michel (7/5): Wonderful place to relax for a couple of nights.... - Very nice property with breathtaking views from the lawns. The "chalets" were nicely appointed and provide sufficient privacy. The pool is large and pleasant for a few hours of relaxation. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Due to the remote location and limited restaurant (breakfast only) the hotel should fill the fridge with more food items, which they could charge for. Some soft drinks, chips, chocolate etc. In addition the bathroom kit were rather poor. Tiny bar soap and tiny shampoo. We were not able to drive down to Varenna to buy bathroom items due to opening hours.
- Alexandra (10/5): Wonderful- felt like we were in another world. - Wonderful view and great swimming on site. Lovely friendly staff and nice restaurant very close
- Gemma (10/5): A beautiful location overlooking the lake & Varenna - The setting is beautiful, located a 5 minute walk to the castle. The facilities were really good, a large swimming pool, tennis/football court, table tennis and seating areas in the gardens overlooking the stunning views in a quiet setting. The apartment was a really good size with everything we needed & the bread/milk/cornflakes/jams was a lovely touch and needed as there are no shops nearby. The staff were really lovely & helpful too. Nothing about the property itself but if you haven’t got a car which we didn’t, the walk back from Varenna is exceptionally steep and cobbled, the walk down is about 15 minutes but you have to be careful as the cobbles can be a bit slippery & not many hand rails. We often used a taxi for approximately €15-20.
- Sandy (10/5): Far exceeded expectations and would book again and soon! - Good breakfast and excellent service. Would be nice to dine outdoors and/or with the view. Absolutely nothing. Perfect start to finish!
- Trinh (10/5): If I come back I will look for this property again. - Beautiful play to stay. Breathtaking view. can’t expect any better. I arrived on the raining dạy. We took train and ferry, we came at time the front desk about to close. They waited for us. We couldn’t get any taxi, Giovan came to pick us. What a exceptional host. It’s unforgettable experience.
- Erin (10/5): Exceptional - absolutely incredible relaxing beautiful place
- Stephanie (10/5): fantastic place to stay in lake como - stunning grounds with a beautiful view of the lake nothing - it was great!
- Susana (10/5): Absolutely a dream! - This place is a paradise. The grounds are absolutely beautiful and the views are unreal. Casa Cima was charming and just perfect for us. Staff was super helpful and extremely kind. We will definitely come back. This place is on a hill so I recommend bringing a car for your stay.
- Anonymous (10/5): The staff is absolutely fantastic, and the property is beautiful! we went in late May, and all of the flowers were in bl - this property is absolutely stunning! It is so peaceful! I wish there would’ve been options for dinner, but other than that, this place is amazing!
- William (7/5): Beautiful but difficult to get to without a car. - Apartment was lovely. Clean, modern and spacious. Grounds are beautiful. Views from the ground are also beautiful. The location for being in Varenna is very inconvenient. You have to walk up and down a very steep road fro 20-30 minutes to get to this location. With luggage one definitely needs a taxi which are sparse right now due to the road closure the way to Varenna. Trains are unable to run currently to Varenna so people have to make their way via buses, taxis and ferry.
- Morgan (10/5): Exceptional - The staff was very kind and extremely helpful with helping us book transfers down to Varenna and also to the airport. The house was clean, very private and we loved all of the greenery as well. N/A, everything was great!
- Kopko (3/5): Poor - Place was great very clean, Can't stay here without a car,
- Doina (9/5): An awesome location for a good price. - This place is amazing, with an old family house, yet that has all the necessary amenities in it.
The kitchen has everything you will need, and the table is next to a window facing the Como lake.
They also have an amazing garden that you can explore, and its also pretty instagrammable.
The hosts were really friendly and helpful with any queries that we had during our stay. If you are arriving to varenna with your backpacks - do not go by foot. Take a taxi, because the location is on a hill that is pretty tough to climb with your backpacks on. I wouldnt put that as a minus for the house, but rather something the tourists should know.
- Dk (10/5): Loved it, I could’ve stayed there a week just sitting outside enjoying the view. May do that stiil - beautiful, i loved the view and the property I think you should just know, its a hike uphill. Just like love, the pain is worth it!
- Carrie (9/5): Really lovely, highly recommend. One of the most magical places I've stayed in a long time. - the property is absolutely stunning. the accommodations are lovely the beds are very very very stiff.
- Berry (8/5): Beautiful secluded stay on Lake Como. - The grounds are even more beautiful in person! We spent a whole day hanging out by the pool, walking the grounds, and appreciating the view. I wish I had several more days to do that. Giovanna and Steven were also incredibly helpful– they arranged taxi’s for us (hard to come by in Como) and were quick to respond with anything we needed. Comfort of the rooms– mattresses and sheets could have been nicer.
- Rachel (8/5): la dolce vita! - breathtaking views, beautiful grounds, lovely well maintained cottages and wonderful staff!
- Amal (10/5): the view is amazing -
- Gabrielis (9/5): Epic stay on the top of the hill - Beautiful historical location, unbelievable views, super friendly and helpful staff. Wonderful stay, would recommend and return again. -
- Stephen (10/5): A little bit of heaven - The location was superb, so beautiful , the most beautiful place we have ever stayed . The only downside was we tried to walk there from the station with our luggage, definitely not recommended, ring for a taxi. The path is beautiful but very very steep .
- Kama (9/5): Superb -
- Knight (10/5): Exceptional -
- Simone (10/5): Amazing amazing - Perhaps the best travel experience of our lives. We loved absolutely everything. To wake up with exceptional views, to have the peace and tranquillity of the gardens, away from the crowds, with the best view of Lago di Como. The view never grew old. We sat for hours, with a glass of wine, watching the boats, the clouds, the water. Gorgeous Stefano and Giovanna were always there to assist. Kitchen is well set up too. A local restaurant in Vezio, 100m away was cute and served coffee/drinks/local dishes. We also had a delicious lunch/coffees/drinks at the castle entrance. We didn’t have a car, so used the steep path, which is a good workout after the pastries in Varenna. There are taxis about, but we needed to book one to get to the train.
- Caroline (10/5): It was great and we will come back - Great view , great garden ! Thé breakfast could have been better : no homemade jam 😩
- Karina (8/5): Really special location high above the lake with beautiful views - This property is a very unique experience. The cottage we rented was beautifully decorated and very modern. The staff were very helpful and the breakfast was beautifully done in the formal dining room overlooking the lake.
The property is very beautiful. The grounds are kept up and maintained by very attentive and talented staff. I felt the mattress should be replaced. My back is very sensitive however so I often have trouble with mattresses.
Also we really would have liked a daily cleaning and towel replacement daily for the price that we paid.
