• Michael (1/5): What stay? - Disgraceful, shouldn't be on booking.com. No communication from them beforehand and no replies to messages. On day of checking in I was on train to Sheffield and approximately 20 minutes away from arrival when my booking was cancelled without any warning. Thankfully I managed to find alternative accommodation. Just felt like a scam.

• Jo (1/5): Do not book - they are either incompetent, a victim of their own success or this is a scam. - It was easy to book using booking.com. Provider never sent details on how to access flat. Left me standing in an alleyway at 11:30 at night in Sheffield as a lone female traveller. I tried calling a number multiple times but went straight to voicemail, left two voicemail messages, a text message and subsequently sent an email. I had to find another hotel. I have heard nothing back.

We didn’t get check in details until after check-in time on our day of arrival. 2. The door code and fob to external doors didn’t work. 3. We messaged the owners several times including when we were stuck outside at midnight unable to get in but they never responded. We only gained access to the property because the door was left open on the first occasion and another tenant came to help us after we were knocking on windows. 4. There was no coffee

• Georgia (9/5): Good but lack of communication. - Properly was absolutely gorgeous. Spacious and matched the description perfectly. The bath was a stand out feature. The room did have a faint smell of cigarettes. Unfortunately, I messaged both booking.com and the host several times before arrival to the property. Days before and day of. Still no response. I had no check in details and no message on how to enter the property. After 7 phone calls non stop at 3pm (check in time) the host answered and guided us on how to check in.

• Winn (6/5): Some inconveniences but great for short stay in the town - Spacious and a nice clean room. Great kitchen and bathroom utilities. Secure entry system. Great location. Very well priced! The property itself was fantastic but unfortunately communication with the host was a disappointment. Booking.com confirms that they have to message you the day of the booking with details for entry but i had to call and message multiple times to get an automated message, so no apology with the very late response. I messaged a few weeks before regarding checking in a bit later and they never replied back to that either. Someone did answer the phone after calling four times about entering the building and whoever was on the other end didn’t seem like she wanted to be on the phone sounded fed up and blunt. The wifi was non existent and when we tried to connect it said our phones were restricted?! Again, contacted host about this on their mobile but not response even 24 hours later now. Tv wasn’t working even though it was plugged in. There was a musty smell as we entered the room but the place was clean so unsure what that could’ve been.
• Meg (1/5): Non existent. - I wouldn’t know what the property is like, they contacted me after I placed the booking to tell me the property was fully booked and that i was to be refunded, it is now 18 hours later and still not heard a single thing regarding the refunding. I’ve tried calling the property sending them messages on booking.com but I have had 0 communication. As stated above the property looks nice however the communication and the way the deal with customers is below poor, mistake was made on there end, systematic error, however if I had a better experience with the aftercare/ support team I would have probably returned despite the hiccups but not now. The pure lack of customer support is ridiculous.

• emma (7/5): Basement Studio in Sheffield - This unit is in a cool alleyway/close lined with old brick buildings. The apartment is decorated nicely and it's clean. It's close to Cathedral station, the tram, and Sheffield train station. This is a basement unit so it has all of the features of a basement. It was very cold and smelled musty. The TV would not turn on. The area immediately adjacent did not feel safe, transient drug users in the close outside. The entry stairwell to access the unit was dark and unlit.

Ignored messages and did not answer the phone, then turned the phone off so went straight to voicemail. Left us stranded and without accommodation, Booking.com customer service had to assist us and help us find alternative accommodation so we weren't homeless for the night. Extremely poor service from Mandega House, avoid at all costs!

• Taylor (2/5): - Good location close to everything and fairly clean It was really cold in our room and we couldn’t get the heating to work in our room to warm it up and we were sat in our coats as it was so cold and electric radiator took ages to heat up and when we tried to contact the owner they was non responsive and wouldn’t answer at all!
• R.Fear (8/5): Good for a night, maybe not much longer. - Lots of space, very, comfy bed and the aesthetic of the room was really good. Shower pressure was nonexistent, kitchen was lacking, needed a t-towel, and maybe some decent plates and glasses, was a bit of a let down in terms of quality. TV was also a bit wonky when against the wall and the WiFi signal was extremely poor so want able to work from the apartment.

So you will be heavily out of pocket when you cannot claim your accommodation costs on expenses. Poor basic admin and lack of responsiveness.

They didn’t bother to call or email directly just sent a message via the booking.com message service that fortunately I checked before arrival. • Craig (9/5): Great location for a night or 2 in sheffield. - Place was lovely and clean, easy access, very central to city center, shops,bars, etc. We parked in pennine five carpark, Silver Street Head, Sheffield City Centre, Sheffield S1 2DY. £10.40 for 24hrs.. cheapest around, and 5 minute walk to Mandega House. Bed was very comfy, will definitely be booking again on our next night in sheffield..

• James (1/5): Not pleasant - Nothing ---- DO NOT BOOK HERE ---- Arrived at room to find it hadn’t been cleaned/ serviced at all – it was in the messy state the previous occupant had left it. Not pleasant. Was called by Jason (assume the owner) who apologised, that nothing could be done and that of course they would refund. It had been a long day and was late so we made the best of the situation. Now, after weeks of chasing, the property is ghosting both Booking.com and me. They have not honoured the refund. Not acceptable. Therefore, my rant on here which is very much against my principles. Don’t risk turning up to a dirty room.
• Sarah (6/5): Confortable stay but with some initial code access challenges - The apartment is well located and confortable. The apartment is not in a very nice lane but it is quiet and seemed safe. The apartment was confortable, the kitchen was very well equipped for a few days and the whole place was clean. I initially inquired about the possibility of an early check-in but unfortunately didn't receive a response. When the day of arrival came, I followed up again to request this without additional charges, as my original message from over a month prior had gone unanswered. Regrettably, I didn't receive the access code before my arrival, nor at the time of ahcek-in, which left me waiting outside the property for some time. I also attempted to reach someone by phone without success, and communication through Booking.com proved challenging due to significantly delayed responses. Once I realised there was a whatsapp number the owner was repsonsive and provided the details, however, I had already experienced considerable stress worrying about whether I'd have somewhere to sleep that night. After this the rest of my stay was great, however, I would most likely not come back to this accomodation.
• Daniel (5/5): Bad start overall nice place - The room was clean and the amenities were very modern. Great location for Sheffield centre pubs and clubs. Quiet and comfy beds. We weren’t given the check-in information until 30 minutes after the scheduled check in time and staff were very hard to contact. There was a smell of damp in the room we were in, sort of expected in a basement room in winter rain but still something to consider.

• Georgina (8/5): Comfortable, clean and conviennent for a night. - It’s in a good central location and the bed was comfortable Some of the rooms are a little dark - but that is because some of the rooms are at street level.
