- Thaddeus (4/5): I was very disappointed. - Great location. Horribly uncomfortable bed essentially sleeping on two box springs pushed together. Dated and dingy. Western toilet. “Breakfast” was cereal, toast, and a boiled egg. It was vastly overpriced, I paid it so supply and demand I guess. I had to change rooms which was annoying. I checked out of my room after the first night, stored my bags in the storage, and they didn’t have my new room ready until 4 PM. I was tired from a day of skiing and it was irritating that they didn’t prioritize getting me a room earlier in the day for the inconvenience.

- Peter (3/5): - location no wifi in room
worst buffet ever
lifts open at 8.00 and buffet starts at 7.30 absolutely nuts

- Kim (4/5): Would not recommend. - Close to slopes. Beds were terrible, no internet Rooms, toilets not working. Items not as advertised on booking.com.

- Ryan (1/5): Do not stay here if there are other options. - The location was good but everything else was absolutely terrible. Nasty room with the ceiling paper falling. The double bed wasn’t actually a double bed. It was two separate singles. There was no WiFi in our room. Very outdated. The front desk staff acted too cool for us.
- MORIYAMA (8/5): -
- Jennifer (2/5): Awful - Leaving I booked it for my sons, currently living in Uni flats so their expectations are not high, and it was so bad and filthy (showers especially) that they left after one night instead of staying for the 2 we’d paid for.
- Ami (3/5): -

- Moritz (5/5): For being close to the slope and not costing too much, it is acceptable - You get a hotel very close to the gondola. The attached restaurant/bar is pretty good. Breakfast is included, but very very simple. The rooms and overall appearance is a bit lackluster. Cleanliness was fine, but it was a bit of in a state of disrepair.
The shower concept is not good at all. In the room we’re not many hanger to hand jackets or other things after skiing.
There is no changing room if you check in early. (there is one at the gondola though)
- Samuel (10/5): Overall a great experience - Location Nothing
- Ashton (10/5): Would absolutely stay here again or reccomend this place. - There was a bar/restaurant attached, showers were straight forward, bathrooms, etc. everything you need to survive and thrive Literally the only thing that was less than ideal was the burger I ordered at the attached bar. But let’s be honest, you don’t go there for burgers, you go to hang out. If yall used different patties and brioche buns or something it would go from a 10/10 stay to a 11/10.

- Evangeline (7/5): - Great location, decent showers, good bar Incredibly rude female Australian receptionist (yelling, sassy, and unprofessional) left us with a sour taste of this place. Outdated ‘hotel’ but really it’s more of a hostel. Thin walls.
- Imogen (7/5): - bad wifi
- Artid (1/5): - feel like a camp kids feel like a camp kids
- ernest (4/5): Can’t say that they r a hotel. It’s a hybrid between youth hostel and guest house. - Bearing in mind of the price, basic was expected but it was less than basic. House keeping. General guest service etc.
- Wendy (4/5): - The people who work here are WONDERFUL. Sad that mgmt put them in this position.
The facility is really in terrible shape, maintained in a patchwork, the grounds had snow boulders falling from roof and a treacherous entrance to reception. The worst arrival we've ever had; there was no shuttle service to the hotel. The roads were icy and there were no available taxis so we wandered around with gear and suitcases for 1 1/2 hours taking two nasty falls on the ice after a 12 hour trip to get there.
Instead of skiing, we planned our second day of slope time there lugging our stuff back to the bus station for shipping in order to prepare for departure.
The property is not a hotel, rather it's a dorm/hostel type of place. The shared bathroom was on another floor from us on 4, had one out of order, and it was flooded from the other leaking and smelly in the women's 3rd floor. Fire exits were blocked with old beds and furniture, tied open to window latches or inoperable with doors removed, no sprinklers, etc. It was completely dangerous as far as fire safety evac goes. Difficult to navigate by its byzantine corridors and lockers for gear don't lock. I never went to the communal shower but opted to use the hot springs (a 20 minute walk) after seeing the grunge reviews about not going in without shower shoes. If you wanted a nice bath there, it costs ¥3,000 extra which is more than the one in the village. Overall, the staff and location to lift were super.
- Albert (6/5): Does what is says on the tin, no frills - This is a very basic hotel, catering mostly to young Australian tourists. It is extremely conveniently located next to the Happo One gondola and several popular bars / restaurants. The rooms are clean and generally the staff were very helpful, but the physical state of the building and the smell of diesel fuel is a little off putting. The breakfast is very basic but in the hotel’s defence, everything was pretty much exactly as described and the price reflects the value you get here.
- David (2/5): - Good location. Noisy until late from the bar. Dirty room with hole in the wall. Mostly polite staff, one rude staff member checking in. Maybe good choice for younger party crowd.
- Benjamin (2/5): - This place is the definition of everything that is wrong with Hakuba!!
A fossil of the 1998 Olympics, now owned and operated by Australians, like the rest of Hakuba.
Walking into this hotel was like teleporting straight into Front Valley, Perisher.
The only Japanese person we seen, was told to speak english by reception staff when he asked for his room number in Japanese. Disgraceful!!
- Stuart (2/5): - Rooms are far too small and cramped insufficient power points to charge mobile lighting way too dim you can hardly see anything they don’t have a courtesy bus to local bus depot and if Taxis are unavailable as they were well it’s just too bad for you .they gave 3 busses sitting there but apprantley they belong to another company steps are way too steep and would be illegal in Australia breakfast was a joke overall disappointing stay
- Saihung (4/5): - The location for Happo One basically can't be beat. You can throw a snowball to the Gondola from in front of the building.
The building is old and there is only Wi-Fi in the guest lounge.
I tried to email the staff for some information multiple times over a month and they never responded.
- Woody Ki Fung (2/5): - Not as advertised. Definitely not a 3 star hotel.
No wifi - at first I was wondering why all these folks are hanging out at the reception area. It turned out that there's the only spot in the "hotel" with WIFI. There is no in room wifi. This "hotel" definitely does not have "Free Wifi" to me.
Although "check in policies" said check in time is from 4pm to 11:30pm, there was no staff at the reception at 9:30pm. There is a little envelope with your name and the room key in it at the reception...
The lack of any amenities other than body soap, shampoo and some filthy towel. There is no kettle or hair dryer in the room, which I consider a standard for 3 star hotel. In other 3 star hotels, you can pick up razor, toothbrush or whatever at the counter. There is none in this hotel.
No drinkable water - There is a vending machine at the front door, but you know what, water was sold out. A guy from another group looked at me and said "There is no water bro, what are you gonna get?...."
Unstable, structurally unsound bunk bed. OK, I paid I think 3000 more to get the room with 3 twin beds, and what I got was a double bed and a bunk bed...The bunk bed makes all kind of squeaking noise when I was just trying to get onto the top bed. It feels really dangerous
Breakfast with no meat - I have lived in Japan for a long time, and I have stayed in many cheaper hotels, but this hotel provides by far the worst breakfast. There was only bread(toast) with jam and cereal for food.
Don't bother.
- Hayley (10/5): - We usually stay in a ski resort type hotel, but decided to try a different hotel this time and we’re not disappointed. This hotel has no frills, breakfast is a very simple affair, but it’s convenient, reasonable and the staff are friendly. Be aware, if you hire your kit from the hotel, it’s convenient in terms of location and price, but the opening hours for rental are limited. We turned up at midday expecting to be able to do half a day of boarding, to find they had closed and didn’t reopen until 4pm after the slopes closed, which was frustrating. All in all though a great place to stay, the bar was fun to visit and it had a great Aussie vibe.
- Mark (2/5): - Property is old and not maintained well. Breakfast is poor. Rooms are small, old and dirty. Understaffed and awful manager. Lazy, does not want to help with anything. Very poor service
- Serge (8/5): Good budget option for not fuzzy travelers. - I chose this hotel as we were on a budget. Two nights during peak season would set me back around 150.000 yen. This hotel was below 60.000 yen for three nights which was the reason I reserved immediately without checking the reviews. Afterwards I started reading the reviews and then the worries started to grow... shared toilets, dirty, etc , were keywords which popped up in most reviews. When we arrived we were met by a polite Japanese person who checked us in. There is no parking, but next to the hotel is a snowfree parking for 1000 yen a night. The room was spacious and really nice and warm. It's a bit old, but nothing to complain about. We had a family room with toilet and shower and bath. The toilet and the bath unit are together so this was a little inconvenient for a family of 5...but certainly not 100.000 yen worth of inconvenience. We had a double bed for the parents which was comfortable, we had a bunk bed for two kids, but the upper bed was too noisy, so we took the mattress and put it on the ground. The third bed was a sleeping sofa which was not comfortable due to a hard part which splits the sofa/bed in the middle. But we were all dead tired, so we slept through all incomfort. In the morning we had a free breakfast with toast and jam, cereals and boiled eggs. The area is very nice and lively and it's really in front of happo gondola. My family are all boarders though so we drove to hakuba 47 which is a 10 minute drive. All in all, we had a great time, thanks!
- Verified traveler (10/5): A pleasant stay - Overall, I had a great stay at the Hakuba Gondola Hotel.
The room were clean, very comfortable, and The staff was amazing.
I highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Hakuba.
- Sathish Kumar (10/5): - Excellent !! Convenient location for Ski in-Ski out and Dining
- LeAnn808 (8/5): - Very good location, it is an older style lodging which I knew ahead of time by reading the reviews, I was not expecting anything more. Water pressure is good and the showers water is hot which is needed after a day of snowboarding. It met my needs. A place to stay to rest and shower, and free breakfast in the morning. Would stay again if I could bring my dog next time.
- Kurt (10/5): Great location, top tier service - Walking distance to the gondola is what drove us to select this hotel, but the service and amenities made it the perfect place. We had 3 to a room and it was not too bad for space. The attached bar and restaurant were always welcoming and the hotel includes a spacious dry room with lockers to put your gear after hitting the slopes. Overall, a great stay and would definitely recommend.
- BernieComerford (10/5): - An amazing location. Lovely helpful staff. Great bar. Our rooms were a good size with ensuite and lovely view of the mountain. Loved the small chub to relax in at the end of the day. English breakfast that was included in the price was perfect. Looking forward to returning one day.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Horrific staff, forced room changes during stay and claimed they informed hotels.com of this.
- Alex (8/5): - The building is beautiful, location amazing and the pub is great must try the mad cow burger. On the nagative the bed springs are shocking and the bathrooms are ancient bring shower sandals.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Just a simple youth hostel with 4-5 star hotel prices.
We had the room with a bathroom but I had a better bathroom in camper van.
The guys at reception were friendly enough (Aussie) but it almost felt like they were doing community service or out on parole.
Our friends stayed in another hotel which was cheaper and that looked much better value for money.
Don’t let the pretty pictures fool you.
It was Very close to the Gondola and we hired or equipment from Woodys across the road - great service and very friendly.
Not sure I will rush back.
In fact the stay ended up with us having an average experience in Hakuba.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Hotel met the basic needs. Really inconvenient for the hotel not to accept credit card. Breakfast was very basic (cereals and breads). Soft boiled eggs were good.
- OC (10/5): - Near gondola good.
No parking so had to park outside and need to pay.
