Guest Reviews
- Rene (8/5): - Omgeving en 0antourage Toiletten algemeen
- Karin (9/5): -
- Marleen (10/5): Huiselijke gastvrijheid. Even in een andere wereld. - Vriendelijk personeel.
We werden totaal in de watten gelegd.
De kinderen mochten zelfs in de vijver zwemmen! Geweldig -
Insgesamt absolut empfehlenswert!
- Else Østergaard (10/5): A hidden gem, that is really worth a visit. I would give it 12, if that was possible! - This is a really fabulous place. So if you would like to try somerthing completely different, this is really the place. We were the only two in late October, but our host cooked a 4 meal course at the fireplace of the restaurant. Fantastic meal in a fantastic setting. We were astonished by the warm welcome! Also breakfast was really good.
- stan (8/5): I - The evening meal was excellent. Very well cooked and presented. The breakfast was fine, croissant, bread, orange juice, and coffee. There was no door or mechanical extract fan in the bathroom/toilet
- Jackie (9/5): We would love to come here again ! - This was a unique experience rather than just an overnight stay…the building is wondrous and the host so welcoming and also a talented chef. Bathroom a little tired
- Anthony (10/5): - The room was spacious, quiet and warm. The dinner was really special. Limited menu but everything was superb as was the service and especially the dinning area. The breakfast was also very good.
- marc (8/5): The young man who looked after us was alone for everything.. He did this superbly well: friendly, politely, efficiently - The atmosphere of an old mansion We arrived a bit early(1600 hrs) and could not find anyone to check in….
- Anna (10/5): -
- shirley (10/5): - I could not fault this property
- Roger (8/5): - Very historic property and village which is very attractive. The village is quite isolated and has limited facilities.
- Marijke (10/5): -
- Francis (8/5): Toffe authentieke accomodatie in een prachtig dorp. - De leuke en authentieke locatie.
- lutz (10/5): happy - Tolles historisches Haus, liebevoll renoviert, klasse, persönlicher Empfang.. einzigartiges Gebäude, gutes Frühstück.. einfach angenehm
- Denville (9/5): Highly recommend booking the evening meal at this delightful property - Beautiful building with authentic features. Dinner and breakfast were excellent Bathroom window was not frosted and looked out onto courtyard. Would benefit from a blind that could be pulled down or curtain. Also no shower in our bathroom
- Karine (4/5): -
- Anne (8/5): -
- Sophie (10/5): -
- Eric (10/5): Séjour agréable dans un cadre magnifique, auberge et le village dans laquelle elle est située. - Le petit déjeuner était parfait. Rien
- Antonie (7/5): -
- David (8/5): Lovely owner and chef. Very attentive and food excellent. - Beautiful old historic building. Bedroom was rather dark but understandable as the building was several hundred years old!
- Mr B C J (10/5): Great small historic hotel with wonderful service - The Auberge de l’Abbatiale is a wonderful small family run hotel with excellent accommodation in a historic and very interesting building. Very friendly owner and staff. Dinner in the restaurant was delicious. Thoroughly recommended as a stop off point while travelling through France as it is located in a picturesque historic village fairly close to an exit on the A31 (13 km away). Half way between Calais and the south of France.
- Ian (9/5): Superb -
- Charlotte (7/5): Overall very nice, had a super stroll around the village after we arrived and a lovely breakfast. - It was v quirky and the people were lovely. Chef clearly knows what he is doing. Beds v comfy. Plastic garden furniture, v weird bathroom arrangement in the family bedroom suite.
- Robin (10/5): An amazing stay! I know you hear this phrase a lot these days, but this really is a hidden gem and I wish them every suc - It’s an amazing property, lovingly restored. The rooms are very comfortable, but with an eye to authenticity for the period. It is clearly a labour of love for the family who own the Auberge. We dined there and although we were the only guests that night, there was an excellent choice on the menu and the food was amazingly good. The service was perfect and Barbara, the took our order and delivered the food in a very friendly and efficient manner. Before he left for the evening, the chef came for a chat and to check that we were satisfied with the food that he had “ cooked especially for you”. Delightful!
- Christopher (9/5): Perfect stop on journey from the south of France to the north - Location, character, dinner, staff
- Philip (1/5): Bad - Leaving. We did not stay. The management (Roman) was helpful in finding an alternative hotel. The room we were offered was nothing like the photos on Booking.com. it was a dark medieval stone vault with no window. The room was very dusty, which creates problems with dust allergies. The dining room was similar. We decided not to stay. I'm afraid Booking .com descriptions are unreliable - sometimes ok, sometimes terrible!
- Sarah (10/5): - We spent a very comfortable night in this beautiful old property, that is full of history and charm. The dinner was excellent as was the bottle of local wine. The town looked charming although we had very little time to explore. Hopefully we will be back.
- Paul (10/5): Another lovely stay -
- Paul (10/5): Extremely pleasant and welcoming atmosphere at the Auberge - Marie gave us a great welcome and we loved the historic building.
Dinner and breakfast were superb and we were also looked after by Chantelle who was charming and friendly There was nothing we didn’t like
- Andrew (9/5): Superb -
- Annette (10/5): An exceptional, charming place to stay - Utterly charming, delicious food, wonderful hospitality, great for walking and beautiful setting, and such an interesting history. I've stayed here before and will definitely come again!
- Geoff (8/5): Very good -
- Caroline (9/5): Superb - A beautiful, ancient property, oozing ambience.
The owner was an absolute delight the food delicious.
The location is a great half way stop over between Calais and the south of France. We will definitely return
- Diane (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alexander (9/5): Superb - food very good stronger banister that didn't wobble on external staircase
- Rude (10/5): Great! - Dinner was excellent. Breakfast as well.
- Jeremy (9/5): A delightful stay - far from the normal - A quirky, characterful old building, located next door to an old Abbey with a long history (religion, prison, art galleryetc.) which is well worth exploring.
Think more upmarket Chambre d'hote than boutique hotel.
Buildings and furnishings are all delightful old antiques.
Excellent evening meal and a very good breakfast. Be aware that some of the rooms are approached by a narrow set of outside steps, which might be a challenge for the less than active, especially when wet.
- Yvonne (9/5): Superb - A beautiful unique hotel set in a very old grand house. We dined in the hotel's restaurant & the meal was hands down the best meal we've had on this trip. absolutely delicious! Some more pillowslip the bed would have been nice.
- Maurice (8/5): Unique accommodation but … - Atmospheric, historic, comfortable and warm on a damp, miserable day. Location in lovely village. Comfy bed. Excellent (albeit expensive) evening meal, beautifully cooked. Good breakfast. Expensive by comparison with other comparable properties recently stayed in. No shower gel or shampoo in bathroom - the only property in recent experience not to provide toiletries. No wifi in our room. Access to bedrooms would be difficult for those with mobility issues.
- ELizabeth (10/5): What an amazing place! - Step back in time with today’s comforts. What a wonderful stay. The owners have put a lot of effort and love into the renovations of this property. The service was personal and considerate. We also had dinner here which was excellent. I think we will look to come back here again in the future
- Simon (8/5): Very good -
- Gina (10/5): Warm and comfortable, amazing food and peaceful - I felt like going back in time but with comfort and warmth There was nothing I didn’t like!
- Susan (7/5): Very historical and excellent food - The dinner and breakfast were amazing and the hostess was wonderful. Wine list was good.
Plenty of hot water The property is very old but rooms were comfortable it was unfortunate that the weather had changed and was very cool and it was cold in the property, but this was not the fault of the hostess.
- David (9/5): Fantastic welcome from a unique venue. - Very characterful property, excellent location for breaking a long journey through NE France on the A31. Extremely personable service in both hotel and restaurant. Excellent local produce and wine at dinner. A great stay! Limited parking. Fairly remote area if you are not already passing by.
- John (7/5): Interesting relaxing and friendly environment - Very individual and characteristic of staying in a castle, staff were very friendly and attentive. Grounds and environment pleasing, restaurant was good Not very private as people could see directly into our bathroom- could do with a blind to cover this window. Shower in bath clunky and awkward to use without spraying water on floor. Tea and coffee not topped up so very little left.
- John (10/5): Nothing like it! - What a place to stay! Unique accommodation which we really loved. Very comfortable (although the shower was a bit of a squeeze). Super evening meals in the neighbouring restaurant and good breakfasts too. The village and the neighbouring abbey are well worth discovering during your stay.
- Louise (10/5): Worth a visit. Accommodation is specatacular! - Our stay was fantastic! The food was incredible and Maria the host was wonderful and extremely friendly. The only negative was the comfort of the beds. The beds were really hard and I woke up with uncomfortable backache.
Beds are always a matter of personal preference so this might not be the experience of all of the guests.
- Susan (8/5): Peaceful quirky old inn. - This is a haven of peace and solitude despite only being about 20 mins from the motorway. The welcome is so nice. Dinner was excellent and breakfast a pleasure. It’s all great - quirky but great.
- Graham (7/5): Good - Very interesting property. Restaurant good. Parking difficult as was full when we arrived .
Had to park 100 yards away which wasn't the best with cases and rain.
- David (9/5): Bed breakfast evening meal all brilliant A big thank you - Very quirky liked it We found it all exceptable
- Jean (9/5): Superb -
- Robert (9/5): Superb -
- Judith (8/5): Great stopover on way from uk to south of France - Beautiful quiet village about 10 minutes from motorway. Very friendly staff and lovely food Room somewhat lacking in modern amenities but large and comfortable
- Alan (9/5): Bravo! - An amazing restored abbey residence with cultural kudos in bucolic tranquility! The host Roman, was very accommodating and polite, helpful and friendly despite being so very busy! The room was lovely. The only issue was the pillows which were not great. The pillows!
- Claudia (10/5): Beautiful Castle experience & Excellent food! - The place is fantastic an authentic petit village, and it is as if you are sleeping in a castle with beautiful artefacts from ancient era. The personell super friendly and very helpful. the food was fantastic compliments to the cook! nothing
- Jan (9/5): Wonderful stay with amazing people - Everything was great!
Especially the hospitality of Romain and Anne-Maria hard warming.
You feld immediately at home, in the beautiful Auberge and incredible nature.
To have total silence in the woods is overwhelming.
We wish Anne-Maria and Romain all the best in the future, don’t change anything as Romain rightly stated 🙏 The menu could change a bit more during the week
- Daniela (9/5): Very interesting place to stay. - The building is amazing and steeped in history. The food was fantastic and we were made to feel very welcome.
- Eleanor (9/5): We were made to feel welcome. The setting was lovely and the dinner was very good and our waiter was delightful - The position, a very attractive setting Nothing
- Derek (9/5): This was our second stay at the Auberge, using it as a superb overnight stay to end our holiday. - Location. Atmosphere. Character of building. Excellent dinner and breakfast.
- Susan (8/5): Very good -
- Jonathan (9/5): Superb - Historic & oozes character & charm.
Warm welcome from the owners & staff.
Fabulous food in the restaurant. Nothing.
- Frederick (9/5): Quirky accommodation with character - The character of it Nil
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional - Beautifully restored historic property in a beautiful hidden corner of France. With a great restaurant as a bonus. Made a great overnight stop on a long journey.
- Joeri (8/5): Very good - The only disappointment was the fact that to charge the electric car we where directed to the charging station in the village center as there was no charging station at the hotel. I feel this should be stated in advance by booking.com as this plays a large role in the planning of a journey by electric car.
- Charles (10/5): A truly unique and beautiful place to stay. Outstanding in every respect. We will be back. - This property is located in the most tranquil and picturesque village, surrounded by rolling countryside. A veritable gem, with outstanding cooking and hospitality. Ana Maria could not have been more welcoming, a perfect host. Actually the Auberge exceeded all expectations, and we loved it all. There was nothing that could have been better. The dinner was truly outstanding.
- Peter (9/5): A truly authentic and enjoyable stay in rural France. - The authentic French charm, situated in an ancient building next to a Cistercian abbey made this a truly unique place to visit. Warm, quirky and comfortable, our hostess was charming and a delicious meal in the dining hall restaurant by a blazing log fire was the highlight. The 17th Century layout and staircases could be challenging for people with mobility issues.
- Graham (10/5): Great stay on route to Italy. - Historic building with great charm. Cosy and warm too.
The owner was extremely helpful and friendly, we loved our short stay. N/A
- Gerald (10/5): Historic accommodation with style - Beautifu ,artistic and full of character. Lovely hostess who is also a fantastic chef
- Valerie (10/5): Wonderful immersive experience in this hotel - a great way to enjoy history! - What an amazing historic building. This was an exceptional place to stay, steeped in history and yet still with all the comfort that you need when travelling through France. Add to this the delicious evening meal and a great breakfast with fresh bread, local meats and cheese, croissants with homemade jams all eaten in a medieval dining hall with tapestries and furnished in keeping with the age of the building. Great choice of wines as well. A true historic experience and one that we will definitely be repeating next year. There was nothing that we disliked.

- Emma (9/5): An excellent venue for a short stay visit - This is a charming Auberge in a pretty location. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the room was very comfortable.
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional - Everything The shower head should be changed.
- Roger (9/5): Lovely historic stone property - Lovely historic stone property with bags of character. Welcoming staff. Room was nice and cool and very comfortable bed. Tea/coffee and mini bar provided.
We enjoyed an excellent evening meal, good choice and varied wine list. Location was ideal for us. The bathroom arrangement is not ideal - large bath with handheld shower. Installing a blind on the window would also provide a little more privacy (!). There is no TV or WIFI in the room (but this didn't bother us).
- Nicolas (9/5): Superb - Beautiful location, lovely rooms with authentic details.
The staff will do everything to make you comfortable.
And they have some excellent wines.
- Jacqueline (4/5): Did not come up to expectations. - The building was very old and interesting for its historical value and the village lovely to walk around. There was no door on the toilet in our bedroom - extraordinary in this day and age. We were disappointed with the quality of the food at dinner.
- Tim (3/5): Poor - Polite friendly staff. Comfortable bed Bathroom was poor, toilet was wobbly and cramped. Bathroom door didn't fit and fouled the light switch. Poor lighting in bedroom
Food mediocre at best and ridiculously over priced.
- Mariëlle (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful and unique location
- Adam (10/5): Stay in a historic monument to medieval France. - Fantastic Historic Building.
Wonderful Staff and excellent food.
Maria & Her Husband are very kind.
- Mihaela (10/5): Exceptional - Fabulos location, amazing host! We loved everything, the food, the restaurant, the rooms and the overall atmosphere and charm!

- Cathrine (10/5): Great place - Friendly staff, great location and a unique building. Very good food and wine. Our little dog was welcome too. Couldnt find the remote to the aircondition, but we did not ask, and it was ok anyway.
- Martijn (8/5): Very good -
- Brett (7/5): Good -
- Luly (10/5): A fascinating property and superb dining with lovely staff. - Like stepping back in time. A medieval building given a new life - very characterful, well thought out and full of artefacts.
An excellent stay for those who are looking for a bit more character than all the other hotels. we had a courtyard outlook from our lovely room which wasn’t that grand. Everything was carefully thought out bar the bathroom.
- Neil (9/5): a very beautiful and restful overnight stay - this is a wonderful quiet Auberge in the beautiful countryside, very peaceful and quiet and very accomodating and kind owners slightly tricky access to the room
- Stephen (10/5): Brilliant, will come back next time I’m driving south or North from UK to Provence - Amazing place, modest from the outside stunning insight. Full of Antiques, tapestries and quirky touches. I wasn’t expecting to be offered dinner and accepted it not what I would get . Excellent 3 or 4 course dinner with high quality wine collection. France at its best. Thank you
- Christine (10/5): Absolutely wonderful - we wish we could have stayed for longer. - Everything was wonderful and everyone was very helpful Nothing
