Guest Reviews
- Pamela (10/5): - Very clean, welcoming staff , excellent value for money and relaxed. No negative feedback at all.
- Christine (8/5): - Very friendly staff. Lovely setting My room was cold but as soon as I mentioned it the lovely staff bought me a radiator.
My room was on the third floor so hard with my heavy suitcase up and down. Next time I will request a lower ground floor room.
- Margaret (10/5): -
- Louise (9/5): - Clean and new Only 1 towel given for 2 people
- Axel (9/5): - Affordable and clean accommodation. Staff were very friendly and professional. Breakfast was delicious and very well priced.
- Stewart (7/5): Could have been better based on past experience - I've stayed before so the rooms are clean and comfortable and located in an annex so quiet, overall very good. A little disappointed this time arrived around 9pm so no food of snacks available, which is fine, however they weren't offering breakfast either due to low occupancy so that was a disappointment not even a coffee. It would have been good to have notice of this. I had stayed before so i know the food is good, but if i had known there was no food i might have stayed in another hotel/ pub. Also if low occupancy why did i have to have the room right at the top of the building which served as the annex. Also, one final complaint no heating when i arrived in the evening and no heating in the morning so a bit chilly
- David (9/5): Very pleasant and comfortable- lovely staff - Very good choice of food. Excellent service. Apartment was comfortable and very well equipped.
Two points - no proper mirror in the bathroom.
Radiators very difficult to work.
- David (9/5): I'll definately be back. - Staff were really helpful and friendly even calling me to find out where I was (delayed trains!)
Excellent breakfast too.
Sadly, due to my late arrival, I missed thbe restaurant in the evening but other guests told me it was really good. Excellent selection of beers.
- ROBERT (7/5): Great Resteraunt rooms not so - Great location and restaurant Room was very cold and small with wallpaper falling off shame as staff where great
- Seymour (8/5): Good place but could improve - Excellent friendly Staff. Room was was clean and well decorated. Room was very small to be described as a double. Single wardrobe would be a clue . Kettle to make coffee needed to be placed upon the floor. Bathroom was very small but functional but had no heating. Room got cold in the night đ and early morning. Heating had been turned off.
Could hear the TV đș from the Room on the same top floor and the people's conversations.
- Stuart (10/5): Everything was excellent! Staff amazing. Great location. - Everything was excellent. Lovely room, great food and friendly service in a great location. Nothing
- Lorraine (10/5): Faultless - Fantastic apartment, had everything we needed and spotless. Staff were lovely , great customer service. we had a beautiful meal. The location is perfect .
- Trevor (9/5): -
- Stephen (5/5): - Location was very nice Heating in the room did not work. Eventually got the radiator working late at night 10.30pm but it failed again the following morning.
Also, given the incorrect key to enter the annex where my room was located
- Paul (9/5): -
- Kay (10/5): -
- Janet (9/5): - Good location in quiet village Good food staff very helpful Good breakfast Good rooms a very nice stay will stay again N/A
- Simon (7/5): Massive rooms in the annex, but you'll be a few minutes walk away from the restaurant - The County is clearly a former pub converted into a restaurant, so it has a pub feel inside. The food in the evening was lovely and so was breakfast. My room was massive and came with a kitchenette and sofa. My room wasn't in the main building but in an annex (looks like a converted pub) 3-4 mins walk away. This wasn't a problem when I stayed as it was dry, but if it had been raining wouldn't have been so good.
- Frank (9/5): Super choice for a good value, no-frills stopover on a road trip. - Very handy for a stopover off the A1(M) but no motorway noise at all. Friendly, well-run pub with a good breakfast. Comfortable room in house next door, well-equipped enough for a longer stay. Nothing not to like!
- Neil (10/5): Overall great stay - Great and accommodating staff. They listened to feedback provided and responded. Breakfast was very good and friendly service.
- Dean (10/5): Amazing service, great rooms and excellent breakfast. Highly recommended! - Fantastic location. Clean and cost!
- Alan (7/5): -
- Karen (10/5): Will return - Spacious and modern apartment
- Holly (9/5): Enjoyable location with a warm friendly welcome. - Lovely staff. The food in the Restuarant was delicious and the rooms were clean and nicely decorated. The small double rooms were lovely but get warm. It was hard for my elderly father to open his skylight but I didnât have a problem.
- Joe (9/5): - Very good breakfast
Drinks were expensive.
Food was very good.
- Andrea (9/5): -
- Shelley (9/5): Been going to The County for years. Still as good as ever - Great atmosphere. Great food. Great staff Bed could have been bigger in the double room
- Carla (10/5): -
- Peter (8/5): -
- Arkadiusz (10/5): -
- Genevieve (7/5): Stay and location was good, breakfast was great đ„° - The heating was on during night and so hot in the room! Couldnât switch off the heating at all.
Mattress was to soft.
- Juliet (7/5): Comfortable Basics of a Home - Overpriced - Lovely Staff. - This is not luxury accommodation as suggested - one combined cheap shower gel and hair wash along with sachets of Nescafé confirm that. Comfortable basics of a home. Massively overpriced.
- Jessie (9/5): -
- Leroy (10/5): Enjoyable - Perfect location for our stay
- Matthew (9/5): A quick one night stay as I was working locally. Would highly recommend staying here - Nice comfortable room next to the County Restaurant and ample parking. Staff were welcoming and the menu at the County was so good.
- Peter (9/5): -
- Ruth (4/5): Wouldnât stay here again - Not a good location rooms away from the bar and restaurant Too far to go to hotel room , hot stuffy room with noisy road outside
- Jonathan (10/5): -
- Chris (10/5): Brilliant stay again. So glad I found it -
- The Manchester pirate (8/5): Lovley place friendly staff food was ok - Lovley night sleep tv was a nightmare could not get it to find a Chanel Tv worked normally
- Roselind (10/5): -
- Julie (10/5): -
- Richard (10/5): -
- Donna (10/5): Brilliant - staff at the County were excellent ! Very friendly and couldnât do enough for us - Very modern and had everything we needed Nothing
- Paul (9/5): - N/A None
- Darren (10/5): -
- Albert (9/5): Very enjoyable stay.will stop there again - Very spacious accommodation and very clean. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Had a wonderful meal on the evening Bit confusing about where we were staying but easy in the end
- Jennifer (9/5): -
- Margaret (9/5): Great stay as always, and will be back. - We were catching up with friends, and The County is where we stay. The staff are always friendly, courteous and accommodating. The food is very good too. The apartments are lovely. There wasn't really anything that could be done better. I enjoyed our stay and felt very welcome in the hotel.
- Christopher (10/5): -
- Victoria (9/5): Would definitely recommend if staying in this area. - Location excellent for Kynren. Breakfast really good - plenty of options. Will cater for dietary requirements. Apartment clean & very comfortable. Nothing - met our requirements perfectly.
- Joanna (10/5): -
- Jonathan (10/5): -
- Michelle (9/5): -
- Amanda (10/5): Extremely pleasant, had everything we required, was spacious, very clean and we totally loved it. - Pub part was lovely, with such helpful friendly staff, especially the young man in the evenings. Nothing was too much trouble.
Accommodation was amazing. Right location to were we needed it to be, size was great and it was extremely comfortable, absolutely spotless, in fact it felt like we were the first ever to stay there it was that clean and cared for. Nothing! It was amazing and perfect
- Lisa (8/5): - Nice accomdation
Rooms a little warm but nicely equipped and of a high standard. Breakfast took a long time to come (waitress very apologetic, but obviously under staffed)
- Georgina (10/5): Great place to stay! - Lovely location and great apartments. I have stayed here 4 times and loved every visit. Feels safe and has everything you need to cook and relax. Nothing
- Cameron (9/5): Superb -
- Peter (10/5): Exceptional - This is our 2nd stay here and won't be our last. In ideal position for our travels.
- Ian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mark (6/5): Pleasant - The room, apartment, was great. Lots of room and useful stuff.
Wish I'd read the blurb, I would have got some supplies in The organisation! Incorrect door codes written on a scrap of paper. Less than brilliant directions to the room. No information pack in the room. Incorrect WiFi code given.
- Lewis (10/5): Exceptional - Breakfast and bar staff were so good and the room was clean. Very good value for moneyâŠ
- Pamela (9/5): Superb - It was very spacious and comfortable. The staff were wonderful especially Ellen. The food was great. Very nice place and would highly recommend it.
- Robert (8/5): Very good -
- James (10/5): Exceptional - Breakfast was. Very good
- James (9/5): A fantastic little Gem - A unique, quiet location tucked away on a beautiful Village Green. Large carpark to the rear of the property. Staff were fantastic. Special mention to James, David, and Sam, who all made us feel welcome from the off.
The restaurant menu is very good, and the food was great too, although some items seem a little expensive.
The bed was comfortable, and both the bathroom and bedroom were very clean. I'm struggling to find in the hotel description where it informs the guest that some rooms are in a completely different building some 300m away on a main road. This isn't ideal if travelling with family members or children.
There is no large mirror in the bathroom of the Delux Studio, which makes shaving quite difficult in the small make-up mirror.
- Andrea (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andrew (9/5): Superb -
- Kathleen (9/5): Superb -
- Sharon (10/5): Relaxed and memorable - Food fabulous, staff very helpful, room lovely.
- Peter (8/5): Very good -
- Richard (9/5): Fabulous restaurant with rooms - The County is a lovely pub and restaurant and the food is excellent. We had dinner, lunch at breakfast and everything was fantastic, big portions of comforting pub grub, delicious. The apartment we stayed in was well appointed with everything you could need. The bed was super comfortable. The staff are amazing, Alex and the wait staff couldnât do enough to help. The only thing that let the property down slightly was a damp smell in the bathroom, perhaps the room was properly aired but the smell was quite strong throughout our stay.
- Margaret (8/5): Very nice and great staff who were very obliging - Breakfast was great. Staff were great. The bathroom sink and the bath didn't drain properly when showering or brushing teeth. The plugs wouldn't open properly. Otherwise the room was very comfortable
- Andrew (6/5): Pleasant - food and service was good, rooms had reasonable decor the bed mattress was far too soft and there was constant noise from the room above where there seemed to be no sound proofing.
Food was good but breakfast was charged extra - if we had a direct booking this would have been included!
There was a dirty nappy in the men's toilets the day we arrived and it was still there the next day - toilets in pub unclean and poor condition.
- Stephanie (6/5): Stuffy room - The hotel was close to the location of my work, which was very convenient. Room was in the loft. It was stuffy and overheated. Made for an uncomfortable stay and poor sleep. I also didn't like having to pay at the property - As a business, we prefer to make our payments via booking.com so our employees have no issues on arrival.
- Emma (10/5): Exceptional -
- Salma (8/5): Very good -
- Janina (7/5): Good -
- Turvill (10/5): Exceptional - Just excellent with very friendly staff, notably Alex and Sam
- Hodkinson (9/5): Superb -
- Edward (9/5): Tongue and Hum - The room was perfect. Spent most of the time in there, well.......... in bed.
Everything you need for a lazy weekend away.
The kitchen(ette) was fully equipped to tackle everything from a fully cooked Ulster Fry to a very romantic spicy sausage dinner đ.
Shower was brilliant, like a power shower and very roomy indeed đ.
Great heating system also to keep us at the constant right temperature in bed.
Staff were very friendly in the County Pub with Alex the manager doing a wonderful job at keeping all the customers happy and welcoming out-of-towners like regular locals.
Special thanks to David to had the very annoying task of delivering us an iron and ironing board all the way to our room so we could iron our pyjamas.
Would definitely return to this hidden gem of Newton Aycliffe. We would have liked a mini fairy up liquid and bottle of cooking oil but these are certainly not deal breakers.
Not much of a view from the rear so don't expect to people watch!
- Brett (10/5): Lovely hotel in nice little village - Very nice room, good at the restaurant was great. Exceeded expectations. Great value for money.
- Simon (9/5): Superb room, and excellent food and service -
- Kristine (10/5): Exceptional -
- Philip (8/5): Very nice stay - Everything was excellent, room was lovely but sadly the bed was far too small. Other than that we had a lovely stay. Bed needs to be bigger.
- Keeley-ann (8/5): Excellent hotel/pub with excellent staff - Comfortable bed. Really helpful and friendly staff. The pub was good too! Everything was brilliant, the room was a bit hot but was easily solved by opening the window.
- M (9/5): Superb -
- Dan (9/5): Lovely staff, comfy room, lovely food and great value! - It was such a pleasure to stay here - the culture amongst the team who work at The County is wonderful - I was greeted by name and felt so welcome. The room was comfy, with a delicious breakfast and great value. The bathroom didn't have a towel rail or any heating so it was a little bit cold.
- Steve (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (10/5): Exceptional - Everything. The staff, the accommodation and the food excellent. There was nothing not to like.
- Catherine (10/5): Exceptional - Great apartment, the staff were lovely and walked us round to where the apartments are located. Everything you needed was in the apartments,
Location was fabulous, despite been on the main road, it was very quiet.
Key coded doors were great and nice touch,
- Glyn (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sharon (8/5): Lovely room. - The hotel rooms are separate to the pub and restaurant, in the house next door. This was warm and cozy even in February, so we literally received a very warm welcome from both staff and property. The room itself was as shown on the website, nicely decorated, clean and well presented.
The breakfast was fantastic, we could not fault any of it.We paid extra for breakfast (as it wasn't included) but it was definitely worth walking from the room and into the pub for! We were in room 6, right at the top of the building. Whilst it was nice and snug to begin, the room was too hot during the night, it seemed to get hotter and hotter. It was difficult to see how to cool the room down, as the velux window was tricky to open. The pillows were too hard for us and the bed too soft, but this is obviously personal preference. Unfortunately, all this led to a poor night's sleep, hence 8/10 rating.
- Kyra (10/5): Attentive staff, comfortable, clean rooms and excellent food. - Great welcome to the property. Fantastic meal on arrival and comfortable stay. Room lovely and clean with everything you need for a short stay. Breakfast choice great value and very well cooked. All staff we met were super helpful and very attentive. Would highly recommend & would 100% stay again.
- Deborah (10/5): Fabulous staff comfortable rooms and great food. Special mention to Sam who goes above and beyond to endure everything i - Quiet location Nothing to dislike
- Mike (10/5): Business trip. Rooms and facilities excellent. Restaurant very good. Staff were so friendly. - Modern well furnished rooms
