Guest Reviews
- joe (10/5): A wonderful authentic Sri Lankan experience with lovely people and amazing food - The authentic experience and lovely hostess Nothing.
- sam (10/5): A truly authentic experience - I felt this was a very authentic experience. It was humble, but everything I needed- the food was incredible and everyone was so hospitable I had no way of contacting my family to tell them I had arrived safely. It was quite remote- my fault for not taking it into account
- Nabil (10/5): - Expérience inédite personnel incroyable
- Heidi (10/5): Peaceful paradise on a tea estate - Highly recommend if you are looking for a calm and peaceful stay off the beaten path. Your meals are made using a traditional fire stove and you’re welcome to help out. Nagama and Kiwan were very welcoming and take pride in looking after you during your stay. Beautiful walks around the estate and valley. The hosts will happily arrange a tuktuk to the station if you are catching the train to Ella. Limited facilities (such as WiFi) at the line house but you may be able to use facilities at the nearby hotel.
- Victoria (10/5): Perfect - I feel so lucky to have stumbled across this absolute gem of a place. Nestled in a secluded valley just a few kilometers from the Ambewela train station, this boutique accommodations includes scrumptious full board, prepared by the proprietress. Staying here, away from the hustle and bustle of nearby tourist hotspots like Ella, I felt like I had a small window into the authentic life of Sri Lanka. Meena Amma is such a gracious hostess, and the amazingly delicious meals she served (traditional Tamil cuisine) could have fed 3 other people besides me. My three room private apartment (sitting room, bedroom, and bathroom) was unbelievably quiet and comfortable. The bed was truly perfect, super warm and firm and cosy. From the walkway in front of my sitting room I could hear the gentle sound of a rushing brook and see hillsides planted in tea, and the sunrise cast an ephemeral golden glow across everything. The view over the valley is so beautiful I had to stop my driver multiple times on the way out after breakfast to take photos. I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to slow down and get to know Sri Lanka and its people a bit better. For me it was one of the top highlights of my trip. Access is straightforward, but note that the location is about 300 meters farther down the road from where the pin is on Google Maps. If you get lost, kind neighbors will help you!

- Man wah (9/5): I suggest you go here from Nanuoya railway station although this way is a little bit longer, but the road is better, and - Meena’s meals were very delicious ,and she always take care of us .
- Lou (10/5): We felt like we were in the heart of the village, a world away from home in NZ. Friendly. - This a super cool experience. Speed dating cooking class. Delicious food. Smiley and welcoming Meena.
The tea tasting was fascinating. We make wine for a living so into tasting generally. Fun to do a blind tasting having tasted the line up. Everyone who works there are super friendly and kind.
Lovely sound of water rushing down the valley. Cosy blanket on the bed.
- Zoran (10/5): Warm hospitality and authentic local experience away from the tourist trail. - Meena Amma was a great host. She made us very welcome and her cooking was delicious. She was kind to include us in the preparation to learn traditional Sri Lanka dishes. We enjoyed her walk through the tea estate learning about the area.
- Vernon (10/5): Amazing host; strategic location in the Highlands - We chose Meena Amma's Tea Experience because we wanted to have a closer and more genuine experience with locals, and because we wanted an accommodation close to the hiking trails of the Hortons Plains.
Meena was such an amazing host. She took care of us in the best way possible. She walked with us to show us the surroundings, explained to us useful tips on Sri Lankan cuisine, and cooked for us the best and most authentic meals we had in Sri Lanka. Although, we thought that her cooking was amazing, it was a little bit salty for our taste buds.
The room was nicely decorated and has the convenience of a nearly a 5* standard.
Highly recommended accommodation in a strategic location close to Nuwara Eliya and Horton Plains. Just beware of the entrance road to the village is not asphalted!
- Joseph (4/5): Disappointing - The food and location. We paid for a tea experience with Meena. We had one cup of tea during our stay and Meena walked past our room and said hello and we didnt see her before or after. The lady cooking for us was great although she spoke no English and was the only staff looking after us. We had no fresh water to drink throughout our stay and the whatsapp service to english speaking staff was never checked or responded to. Along with that no information of the Warwick estate, no info in case of emergency. Lots of bugs and mosquitos again no spray or net in room. All together although it was a lovely setting we thought it was very unproffessional and a rip off.
- Hedley (9/5): A perfect authentic Sri Lankan experience with great food and hosts - A perfect location and very special experience
Staff were great and while Meena was on holiday we could not have been looked after any better and the food was the best we had in Sri Lanka and it was cooked over a wood fire. Could not recommend it enough if you want a real Sri Lankan experience Like it all but a sign post or more detailed directions or what three words would help. But I don’t think most people drive themselves
- Carl (10/5): Exceptional - Our stay with Meena was absolutely fantastic, her hospitality and warmth for us was outstanding and her cooking was amazing.
- Udayanga (10/5): Exceptional - We stayed at Meena Amma's Line Rooms operated by Jetwing Warwick Gardens. Rooms were Clean and Meena Amma was a very friendly personality. We felt like home with her hospitality. She always greeted us with a warm smile and even took care of our special requests. We would like to recommend her "Payasam" to anyone seeking comfort food in that weather. Though the rooms were situated away from main property it is safer environment for anyone. Even villagers were very friendly and helpfull. We would like to recommend Meena Amma's Tea Experience to anyone who is seeking to experience authentic village life in hill country of Sri Lanka.
- Matt (10/5): The perfect hostess - We stayed with Meena Amma for three short days, and wished we had longer. Meena’s hospitality is note perfect, and her traditional Sri Lankan meals the best we have enjoyed in our time on the island. The setting of the two line rooms is stunning, from the beautiful sunrises to the peaceful evenings in the valley. Thank you Meena for your warmth, effort, care and culinary brilliance - we won’t forget it! Nothing
- Yasiru (10/5): It was a really good experience - We really enjoyed our stay. It was a different experience. Meena Amma was really kind and caring. The food was tasty and she asked us what we wanted and she cooked it. It's like personalized cooking. On the day we checked out we wanted to have the lunch to take away and needed a bit early without hesitation she cooked it for us. It was a really good stay. There was no mobile signal most of the time.So be prepared for it.
- Kevin (9/5): Cozy, and heart warming - The drive, the climate, the scenes, and Amma’s personality Hot water is not readily accessible
- Kushmy (10/5): love it and enjoyed lot - get the experience of the line room with the sound near the water stream. nothing.
