Guest Reviews
- Joseph (8/5): Very good -
- Corbin (7/5): Good -
- Anonymous (4/5): just a bit disappointing - very nice clean room good shower and bathroom the bed was to hard for my liking and there was no breakfast although it doesn't say there is breakfast in the feed back customer's are saying they enjoyed breakfast guessing they are out of date
- Mari (9/5): Typical small Inn close to everything. - No breakfast available
- Michael (8/5): Very good - Very convenient for visiting friends. Shower quite narrow, also TV channels quite limited as most broke up due to bad signal.
- Ryan (8/5): Very good -
- Anonymous (8/5): Very good - Very friendly staff, comfortable bedroom. There was no breakfast available disappointing and unexpected.
- Jo (10/5): comfortable stay - location no breakfast available
- Shelley (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tracey (9/5): Superb -
- Stuart (6/5): Staff very friendly and helpful. Accommodation standard average and when considering the cost was actually poor. The pri - Parking and location Price versus quality of accommodation
- Julie (6/5): Nice experience overall - The staff were very friendly The room was very hot
- Jim (8/5): Very good -
- Tom (6/5): Does what it says on the tin – central and simple accommodation - Location is biggest bonus as you can walk everywhere in 10 mins. Car park was v handy given longer-term parking can be tricky and pricey in town. Didn't actively dislike anything but don't expect a chi-chi boutique. It's a perfectly reasonable place to bed down for the night in central Faversham. Didn't get a chance to try out the bar but it looked nice, and busy with locals. Noise not a problem from the bar either.
- Richard (6/5): Pleasant -
- Sue (6/5): Adequate, clean and convenient - N/A Chairs in the room
- C (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kevin (6/5): Pleasant, affordable, friendly staff. - Good Location for town. Room was spacious and comfortable. Could have been cleaned to a higher standard but not a problem. For the price in town, cant complain. Pleasant. Refit the rooms! Ancient telly, light switches and fittings/carpets, paint and walls could easily be spruced up. The price is true to reflect this, but the owner could pull in more money with a reno.
- Cynthia (4/5): Good location but decorations require attention - The location was excellent, which was what drew me to the site. Most historical sites are within walking distance, so are restaurants and pubs. The bed is very comfortable, and the room is airy and large. It is only one flight of stairs which is easy to navigate. The site provides hair dryer and ironing board. Overall the bathroom is unclean and it appeared to be painted in a hurry. The toilet is not clean, neither is the sink, or the shower, the tiles are recently painted, but can do with another coat, and there are splashes of paint all over the bathroom floor. Even the window requires a good wash. For the money, this is not good value.
- Angela (9/5): Superb - Location was great. It was just all we required for the night we stayed. Will stay again.
- Paul (8/5): Very good -
- Sue (8/5): Very good - Convenience light switch bashing bathroom door
- Ashmore (8/5): Very good - Excellent location, property was clean tidy and staff were very helpful NA
- Michael (6/5): Good location. - Central location to town. Free parking. Basic standard. Needs refurbishment. But ok for short stay.
- Deborah (8/5): Comfortable, friendly place to stay. - Excellent location and the staff very lovely and really helpful. The room was a little basic and could be easily improved with e.g. a bedside table. And I can never figure out why hotel rooms rarely have simple, practical things like hooks for coats etc.! But, overall, value for money.
- Philip (10/5): A really lovely welcoming place to stay. - My wife and I stayed here in November last year and liked it so much we said we would stay again when next in Faversham.
It’s a grade 2 listed Victorian building with a pub and restaurant downstairs from the hotel rooms. I believe it has been a hotel for about 150 years.
It has plenty of charm and character, the room had a very spacious cosy bed, an on-suite bathroom, shower, with coffee and tea making facilities.
It was very clean and tidy and the staff were very friendly and welcoming and attentive.
I believe the owners Donna and her husband have done a lot in redecorating and updating the place since they took over the place and have done a great job.
It is just a stones throw from the railway station and the main market town is about a 5 minute walk away.
We definitely recommend a stay there and we will return again soon. The television in the room could have more choice of channels.
- Zach (8/5): A wonderful old Victorian hotel in the perfect location. - The Railway Hotel is in an amazing location, right in the heart of Faversham and walking distance to all the venues, cafes and bars you need. There is a wonderful restaurant in the hotel, The Old Smokehouse, which offers amazing food at a great price, and there is also a lovely old traditional Victorian bar on site. While the room does need a little updating, the bed was comfortable and the it was reasonably quiet for such a central location opposite the railway station. The staff are amazing, and looked after us so well. They were all very welcoming and friendly and a pleasure to deal with. The room we stayed in does need a bit of updating, perhaps new curtains, or blackout blinds. It was quite basic, but had a tv, and kettle. The wifi was a little slow as well. It looked like rooms were being refurbished one by one, and I think once done, perhaps with some quirky items of furniture, this will be an excellent place to stay.
- Matthew (9/5): Superb -
- Simon (10/5): Exceptional - Well located, lovely staff and nice clean rooms for a good price.
- Simon (9/5): Superb - Location good.
Manager was very friendly.
Room clean and warm.
- Owen (6/5): Pleasant - Good value and good location.
Nice big room with comfy bed.
Free parking Restaurant was closed as off season.
Shower is tiny, not very good for well built people.
- Steve (7/5): Nice & easy thank you 😊 -
- lesandbert (10/5): FABULOUS !!!!!! NEW OWNERS HAVE MADE THIS THE PLACE TO STAY IN FAVERSHAM !!!!!!! - We have stayed at the Railway Hotel for the last 5 or so years but since Donna and Dave have taken over about a year or so ago it has become a really wonderful place to stay, completely refurbished (and very large) rooms with everything one could want, en suite shower rooms, teas, coffees & biscuits etc, warm and comfortable with new carpeting throughout and dog friendly !!!....a bag of doggie treats were left for our little poodle on arrival, the Railway Hotel also has its own car park which is so convenient, it is at the top of the town and a 5 minute walk past shops, pubs and cafe's takes you right to the heart of Faversham town Centre, the staff are lovely and the pub itself is a real joy and everything that is good and what a pub should be, also they have a band a couple of times a month, B&B rates are exceptional for what is on offer, we have eaten there and the food is really good plus they are planning new menus and special evenings in the new year...
We would thoroughly recommend The Railway to anyone, couples etc who want to stay in Faversham, it is a lovely place to stay, eat and drink and UTTERLY convenient !!!!!!.........THANK YOU DONNA, DAVE & ALL THE STAFF for making our times in Faversham so much better !!!!!!!!!!...see you soon, Richard, Lesley & Percy poodle...xxxxx
- Amy (8/5): Very good -
- Philip (10/5): A quaint old Victorian hotel , well recommended. - The hotel was close to the town, the staff were very nice and friendly and the room was very nice with a large comfortable bed.
It had everything you needed for a short stay.
Coffee and tea making facilities, tv, en-suite bathroom with shower.
It also had a bar downstairs.
All in all my wife and I had a very enjoyable stay.
We would definitely return there again.
- Colin (6/5): A noisy pub, comfortable beds near to railway station and town for shopping - The Railway Hotel is within easy walking distance to the main Railway station, the room was comfortable with comfortable beds and soft pillows. It is easy access to main shopping street which has fast food outlets as well as restaurants. The creaky floorboards as well as noisy jukebox in bar plus live band on a Saturday night. there was no restaurant available for evening meals even the web site promotes one. No lift, no staff to take bags to room, no phone in room to contact reception.
- Jason (9/5): 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 - Everything Tele to small in my room
- Phillips (5/5): Passable - good location Not very clean. bedside light not working but didn't get it mended.
- Anne (9/5): I only stayed for a night and had a good night sleep. Thank you. - The location is great as it is just opposite the train station. It's also within walking distance to different historical buildings and sites.
The staff was exceptionally helpful and friendly especially Donna.
The room was clean and the bed comfortable. nil
- Lorraine (9/5): Excellent will return again - Breakfast wasn’t included which is a shame for the price.
Staff very friendly and attentive 🌸 Nothing
- Clara (7/5): Good - There was no one for check out at 9am on a Friday
- Paul (8/5): Very good -
- Catherine (6/5): Good location - Location was great and staff were friendly Unfortunately, there was no breakfast available on the premises. We therefore felt the price we paid was ‘over the top’ .
- Geoffrey (5/5): Fair - Proximity to railway station
Customer parking
Large bedroom Not very clean, particularly floor in bathroom
- Victoria (10/5): Exceptional - Clean large room, airy and bed had good mattress, also room was attractively furnished.
Location is very central and has a car park. Our first stay had a pump outside which switched on and off during the night. As we needed the windows open, it was noisy, though otherwise fine. Second room was perfect.
- Marcus (8/5): Enjoyable night at The Railway. - Great location. Very welcoming and friendly staff
- Allan (10/5): Exceptional -
- madeleinea759 (6/5): Basic - Still a long way to go to make this a decent place to stay. Grubby and old full laundry bags in the hallway.
Basic. Comfortable bed.
It’s got a restaurant so surely including a breakfast would be achievable.
Other cafes in the town benefit from this service not being offered and they are all in easy walking distance.
- Jason (10/5): Well rested - Clean comfi Nothing
- Ken (10/5): Exceptional - Over the road from the train station. Frendy welcome. The room was freshly decorated. Outside a bit, raudy late at night.
- Jane (7/5): Friends weekend away - The pub is in a great location with lovely friendly staff. Our room was spacious but tired. The beds were clean and comfortable. Parking on site is a real bonus. We stayed on one of the warmest weekends of the year. Unfortunately the bedrooms do not have air-conditioning and it soon became apparent that we would not be able to sleep with the windows open as the pubs actual extremely noisy unit was right below our window. It was on all night and made sleep practically impossible. We gave in and closed the windows but the fan provided was not powerful enough to cool the room which made for a really poor sleep. The room could definitely benefit from a deep clean and the bathroom needs updating.
- Diane2703 (10/5): Lovely Comfy Beds!! - We stayed here for two nights.
The hotel is sited a few minutes walk from the town centre.
We were given a very friendly welcome and shown to our room. As it was quite warm we were given a fan for the room.
There was plenty of space in the room, with complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits.
The bed was very comfy and we both slept well ( no noise from bar or train station).
The staff were lovely always checking if we needed anything.
Breakfast was also good.
Would definitely stay again.
- 956suziw (8/5): Great location - Great location. welcoming friendly staff
large comfy room.
quiet considering location.
use of car park very handy.
we didn't use the restaurant because we had another restaurant booked.
I think they would benefit from the choice of serving breakfast for guests
- Suzanne (8/5): Great location. welcoming staff - very welcoming staff.
room was very large and comfortable
considering the location very quiet
Good location. car park.
- Ashley (8/5): Very good - Excellent location in the middle of Faversham. Great pub with really friendly staff.
- Gaburro (10/5): Exceptional - really kind and helpful staff. excellent cleaning
- Peter (8/5): A great stay! - The staff were amazing ...nothing was too much trouble thanks to Tim and colleagues. Nothing
- David (6/5): It served the purpose for my wife and I as it was close to the venue we were attending. - Staff were extremely polite and helpful. Car park was useful. shower. Lack of rail on both sides of staircase.
- Glenn (8/5): Very good - Clean and comfortable. Some road noise.
- Michael (8/5): Really nice place overall, the staff are extremely friendly and welcoming, slightly overpriced at £105.00 per night even - Location of hotel, Faversham is a lovely town, close to rail station and high street. Large rooms. Height of summer no fans in room, had to search a couple out of store cupboard. Room needs a mini fridge with complementary water not just basic tea and coffee making amenities. Bathroom floor needs replacing, very old and covered in white emulsion paint, shower very small, need a very hot water sign on hot water pipe, both my wife and I burned our arms in the shower! Bathroom needs a feminine waste bin, sorry, but this should be a prerequisite for sanitary waste products these days.
- Helen (8/5): Very good - The beds were comfortable and the room spacious and clean. My daughter and I were made welcome It was exceptionally hot during our stay and we had the window open. Unfortunately there was an air conditioning unit outside our window which was on all night and hampered our sleep. Of course this would not happen very often in this country!
- Anna (9/5): Friendly welcoming staff and perfect location - The staff were so lovely and accommodating! Really nice room and fantastic location
- Suzanne (5/5): Passable - The bed was comfortable and clean the staff were friendly and polite and small plates of food we ordered were lovely we didn’t want a big meal The bathroom shower needs updating and toilet seat need to be a proper solid seat this was a cheap plastic one
- Christopher (7/5): very good all round trip will come to the town again. - breakfast was n/a ,however my son and I had a great well cooked Sunday lunch at a good price with very good service before we left Faversham. The brewery needs to help the railway with a little T L C , just some licks of paint here and there would cheer it up but loved the place and would stay again.
- Eddy (8/5): Very good - It's a shame they don't do meals but staff were very nice and friendly can't find a better place to stay in They didn't have a menu and breakfast
- Martin (9/5): Good quality location and good pub area - Really responsive to our needs
- Sally (9/5): Better than expected. Quiet - Bed, room and food
- Peter (6/5): Pleasant - I liked the location of your hotel and also pleasant staff welcomed us. I though it not great value for money considering the grade of the hotel and that breakfast wasn't even included for that price. Your restaurant didn't seem to be lively at any stage and we wondered if it was even open for business.
- Julian (10/5): Exceptional - Room was lovely, staff was helpful in what ever information I required. Very easy going and a relaxed atmosphere. The location was excellent, just a short walk and your in the middle of town.
- Nadia (10/5): Great value for money - Everything.Brilliant location, friendly staff most comfortable bed. Stair case leading up to the rooms was stunning.
Would most definitely stay again. Nothing
- Gordon (10/5): Jolly boys outing - They have done an amazing job turning the hotel around in the short time they have been there.
Would definitely stay again. Having to leave
- Beth (9/5): Amazing staff -went the extra mile. we were staying for a wedding and couldn’t get a taxi to our venue a few miles away. - the staff and the location! shower was a hot on the first night but couldn’t get any hot water on the second day
- Gary (10/5): Staff were excellent especially the manager I would definitely stay again -
- Voang (8/5): Very good -
- Dorothy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Damion (10/5): Convenient location, comfortable room, friendly staff. - Large comfortable room with high ceilings and plenty of light. Good curtains for blackout. Quite a small shower, but good pressure and hot water.
- jussiewood (8/5): New management have made a difference - The new management are lovely and we are pleased that we gave it a revisited this year (since the new management) we stayed previously under the old management and the room was grubby, tired and needed some love and we said that we wouldn’t stay again. Then we found out that it had changed hands and thought we would risk it … so pleased that we did. This time the room was clean and repainted and the new team really could not be more friendly and helpful. It’s hard to find places that are dog friendly and this hotel is perfect for that, our dog was very welcome in both the room and in the bar. We also ate dinner in the hotel (from the restaurant menu but in the bar as we had the dog with us) Could not fault the food! A great variety on the menu including vegan options. We wish the new management the best of luck, they have made a difference in a short space of time and deserve success. We will stay again when we next visit !
- Thomas (2/5): Very poor -
- Slarks (8/5): Good. - Excellent full English breakfast. Spots of paint on the shower room floor. Poor attention to detail.
- rettf (10/5): Quaint and Friendly, Perfect Location - Under new ownership and it shows! My room was spacious and comfortable. Very surprised how quiet it was for being over the pub. Big, cozy beds and pillows. Coffee, tea and biscuits in the room. En suite bathroom. Bery clean room. The 5 stars is absolutely due to the amazing staff. Everyone was so friendly and lovely. I felt so at home. The pub had great food and a fun but relaxed atmosphere. I visit family in Faversham once a year, and totally plan on staying here again. We'll worth the price and the location is perfect. Walk to the train station (which is not at all loud) and walk to coffee and shops.
- Kevin (10/5): Exceptional - Staff were friendly and couldn't do enough for you, the hotel was in the perfect position to get into town.
Breakfast was great and the guy who cooked it serenaded us with an interesting version of I don't want to miss a thing by Aerosmith, from the kitchen, which did make my wife and I laugh. Shower was a little small but I do have big shoulders.
- jdh41 (10/5): Very nice friendly staff with a warm welcome - Nice friendly run pub. Staff nice friendly giving a very warm welcome. The Guinness is very good, and they accept both the blue light card and defence card, giving excellent discount on all drinks plus the discount is given on the rooms which are situated above the bar.
- richardsmith878 (10/5): GREAT PLACE TO STAY !!!!!..GREAT PUB !!!!...GREAT MANAGEMENT !!!!!!! - New Management and we have to say Donna and Dave were a delight !!!!, the property has had a facelift and is so much better now with a really good atmosphere all around, the rooms are clean, spacious with everything one could need and the pub itself is inviting and warm, the prices for the rooms are exceptional and cheaper than anywhere we have stayed, they are working so hard in making The Railway a better place than it had been in the past and and we have so enjoyed ourselves here this time, it is a work in progress but if the new landlord and landlady are anything to go by then this place will go from strength to strength, thank you both (and all the staff) for being so kind and helpful and we promise to be back again in the new year, and a big thank you from Bertie our poodle for the lovely gifts you left for him.......We would thoroughly recommend The Railway Hotel........
- jscholefield (2/5): AWFUL HOTEL - Save yourself and go to Premier Inn - Myself and partner stayed for two nights here in June. It is was beyond a joke, the first morning there were no staff anywhere in the building to serve us breakfast (which was included in our booking) and on both nights there was no hot running water. (Bare this in mind because they were serving breakfast the next day - not sure how the staff were washing there hands)👎. On top of that, the shower in our room was literally duct tapped to the wall, the kettle was disgusting inside (amongst many other things). On the final day when we went to check out the member of staff on site happened to be in the middle of a domestic argument which involved a lot of shouting/swearing etc by clearly a disgruntled parter.
I have been seeking a refund for over a month now despite being told at checkout that a full refund would be sent back (via booking.com). I have rang the hotel 20+ times, emailed, asked booking.com for help (they cant do anything as they are channel partners) and ive even asked the pub owners (Shepherd Neame) but they also cannot get in touch with the person who leases the hotel.
SAVE YOURSELF AND GO TO PREMIER INN
- Globalnomad71 (2/5): Despite paying for breakfast no food transpired and no refund given - How disappointing to stay at the Railway Inn Hotel over Christmas and receive zero customer service. I was told that we would not receive any breakfast because the chef had gone to South Africa. We were told we would get a refund and that hasn't happened.
- thelmag557 (2/5): Complaint - They do not serve food, we paid for bed and breakfast but we were not informed until we asked what time breakfast was.
I would not recommend this place and I came home with bedbugs.
- alimP3183PW (6/5): Needs some TLC - Starting with the positives - reasonably priced, central location, friendly staff, lovely comfortable bed and pristine white bedding. Not so good - black mould in the shower cubicle (walls, ceiling and corners) and chipped shower tray. Door warped, so difficult to lock and unlock from the outside. Lamp didn't work. Noisy at night (from bar, outside and staff returning to their room at the end of their shift).
- iangroyw2017 (2/5): Avoid at all costs! - We stayed here last year when attending a local music festival and the service was great - staff very accommodating and had a great time. We re-booked for this year directly with the hotel and reconfirmed by e-mail in May (various mails exchanged).
Due to rail strikes we booked an extra day earlier this year.
When we mentioned the original booking we were told that the manager had no knowledge of it (though we knew the managers name from the May mail conversations).
We were forced to spend one night only and find accommodation for 11 people at short notice with no help from the management.
It was obvious from the state of the hotel rooms and breakfast that there had been a change of management - couldn't have been more different from our previous stay.
Very poor response to our requests, no apologies and frankly couldn't seem to care less about service - we dodged a bullet in not staying extra nights.
We have used this hotel for last 3-4 years but never again - unfortunately Faversham pubs and taxis also lost out on our trade due our relocation.
We will back in Faversham next year but not in this shambolic hotel!
- gordonw171 (2/5): Don’t expect breakfast - Stayed here last night, rooms are pretty basic but very dusty, bathroom hygiene was ok though.
Biggest issue was the lack of breakfast. Advertised as bed and breakfast, and that’s what we paid for. Went down to restaurant at 8.30 this morning and nobody is present, no food laid out, no cooking smells from kitchen, nothing but cups half empty cups from previous day and some out of date bread.
I can’t believe that in this day and age owners/ management could care so little about customer service.
Would not recommend
- 170dailye (2/5): The worst hotel I have ever stayed at! - We arrived to a scruffy, grotty and tired looking hotel (pub). We had to check in at the bar and the person who checked us in looked a bit tipsy and like he might be on something. The carpets were dirty on the stairs and in the corridor. The room looked terrible both beds were old and creaky with very hard mattress which meant that we got no sleep. Drunk people shouting and swearing in the street until way after 12 pm also did not help. The carpet was worn and not clean. The curtain was. hanging off it’s hooks and the place was generally in a bad state.. The room did not smell clean at all This was not the image we saw on booking.com. The advert on booking.com is very misleading. All and all I would say that staying at the Railway hotel in Faversham was an awful experience and it’s note the quint hotel/pub that you would expect, instead it is rather rough and does not meet basic minimum hotel standards.
- 30sidl (2/5): Don't waste your time. Shambolic. - Had a room booked for 3 months only to receive an email 3 days before we were due to stay telling us our booking had been cancelled with some lame excuse that booking.com had overbooked them. I highly recommend you avoid an establishment who is happy to treat their customers with such contempt. Utterly disgraceful.
- 390PaulB390 (2/5): Dire! - Following the excellent reviews on Booking .com I booked a room here. On arrival they had no record of my booking and coulkd only offer me a single room. The hot tap in the sink had been left running for weeks. The toilet didn't flush, Shower door wouldn't close, The shower hot water tap didn't work. The carpet was filthy and debris under the bed. Apart from that the sheets and towels were clean
- 678PETERT (6/5): It is What it is - We booked this hotel just for the night to save driving home after a party . It is in a good part of the town, it’s very basic and could do with a tidy up to be honest . The price was good so bearing that in mind was worth the stay. Our room was above the bar area and downstairs a group was playing but the stopped at a certain time . I expect in the old days it was a haven to stay in.the lads doing the breakfast worked hard to give the ten visitors are cooked breakfast .
- norunec (2/5): No good for work trips - I booked this hotel for two people who were working with me this week. I had to move them after one night as it just wasn’t suitable as a hotel for a work trip.
The hotel is also a pub, and it was noisy till midnight on a Monday night. On top of that, breakfast is served too late to be of any use for anyone who starts work at 8.
And my colleagues did not like the rooms. One in particular was very small and shabby.
But this hotel was advertised on booking.com as suitable for a work trip. So I feel rather aggrieved that when I contacted the hotel about these issues, there was no solution offered and when I said that I might have to move my friends, they said there would be no refund of the bill paid in advance. I found the staff were a bit rude really.
I’m sure it would be fine for a fun boozy weekend in Faversham, but that’s not what I booked it for. For work, I would suggest somewhere else.
- Stefbhg (2/5): Derailed - Unfortunately this hotel has seen better days.
The pictures on the website must have been taken a while ago and do not resemble the tatty and sticky interior of my room.
Dusty lamp shades and a Skeewiff light did not add to the charm ! Complete overhaul is needed along with a big pot of care…
on a plus side ..the beds are clean and the toilet flushes… thank god!
No wonder when you book your keenly told to pay and it’s non refundable… this place has come of the rails and hit the buffers!
