Guest Reviews
- christine (5/5): It was an “ok” property that served a purpose for a night - . The walls were paper thin - could hear full conversations of the guests next door
Car park was awkward to get into and very tight

- Teresa (8/5): - Idea for a short stay
- Teresa (9/5): - The bed

- Janine (7/5): - Very old & basic
- Christopher (9/5): - No breakfast. Excellent location
- David (10/5): - Private off street parking, room was spotlessly clean. Good access to shops within walking distance. Nothing

- Trevor (7/5): Ideal for a short stay maybe up to a week. -
- Robert (8/5): Central for bars and restaurants you come and go as you please - It's room only
- Natalie (9/5): -
- Elbertus Hartman (8/5): - Ligging ten opzichte van de Ferry Centraal in de plaats. Makkelijk uit eten. Niets
- Jenny barnard (3/5): Cold night couldnt get comfortable the heating went off so it was freezing ❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️ - The place was uninviting, and cold, and there was a awuful smell about the tiny room, cheap but definately NOT cheerful would not stay there again. I think even the homeless wouldnt stay The whole set up 1 night was booked one night was enough, there was no extra blanket for warmth, you needed to phone to find out where the key was, on the windowsill door was open, never saw a soul
- Paul (1/5): - nothing It looked so unappealing.Didn,t even stay.
- Matthew Fraser (9/5): Would return - Clean, warm and quiet Entrance looked slightly offputting
- Tomas Workman (7/5): Great option, particularly if heading for the early ferry. - Great price and really helpful location. Also it was tucked away off of the road and so it felt very private and secure. Check in was super simple and the rooms are really close to local amenities. Décor was a little dated, but I guess reflected in the price.
- Scott (9/5): - Really friendly staff and good clean digs really good place to stay Bed was a little bit soft could do with changing
- Guest (8/5): -
- Julie (7/5): On our way to Northern Island great spot to get the ferry the next morning - Great value for money Doesn’t look great from the outside
- Krys (9/5): Great value for money and not far from the ferries! - Lovely room with lots of space and a comfortable bed. Bathroom facilities were decent too. Overall it was very good value for money. Also close to Cairnryan for the ferries, handy if you have an early one! The walls between the room were very thin. Not overly distracting, but you could definitely hear everything in the next room (mostly their TV)
- anne (8/5): - The beds Too small tv
- Shirley (10/5): - Great location
- BRIAN (7/5): -
- Copeland (10/5): - It had an American motel feel it was very nice we enjoyed the l 3 rooms we booked Was a bit chilly in the moring the radiator in my room was off but storm Dave hit and it was freezing
- marcus (9/5): Basic but comfortable beds would stay again. - Accommodation was basic was a cold night no heating in bathroom ideal location for the town. Heating. Car park tight for a big car.
- Adam (10/5): - Clean good parking excellent
- John Colin (2/5): It was very disappointing to arrive at such poor and dated room after a journey of 200 plus miles. - Comfortable bed. The room was very cold. No heat from radiator. No hot water at sink. Too cold in bathroom to consider using the shower. The thistle inn was looking very rundown and obviously closed for anything other than accommodation in the rooms in small annex in the carpark. No staff on site.
- David (9/5): Just what we needed! - Everything, Sandy was most helpful on checkin & provided safe & secure storage for bicycles. All was fine!
- Damian (6/5): Basic accommodation - Very basic accommodation, the place seem clean towels and sheets were clean, carpet not sure if was clean or very worn, the gentleman who handed over the keys was a really nice fellow The entrance, looks super dodgy not sure if the rooms are behind an abandoned house, I was about to book elsewhere as I wasn’t sure as we weee the only people at the place
- Adrian (8/5): -
- James (9/5): -
- Justas (9/5): -
- Sarah (8/5): A great stopover on the way to the ferry - This is the second time we have stayed here. It is an ideal place to stay before a ferry crossing to Belfast. The room has everything you need for a comfortable overnight stay The room is not quite warm enough on arrival but we are from the South so feel the cold!
- Melanie (8/5): Very convenient for the hospital, train station and pubs/restaurant - Very handy for train station and hospital Maybe extra coffee would have been nice (I like it strong)
- Tracey (10/5): Great Chalet - ideal base for catching a ferry or sightseeing - Sandy the owner is absolutely lovely and friendly and incredibly helpful. All the facilities were exactly as we were expecting and Sandy went out of his way to ensure we were comfortable. Sandy also gave us a good tip about there being a Morrisons with a cafe just up the road, where we could get breakfast on the way to the ferry the next morning - which we did, and service was quick too! There was parking directly outside our chalet, which was perfect as I have mobility issues. Our disabled wet room was spacious and equipped with a chair in the shower, which I couldn't have done without. The beds were warm and comfortable. There's a kettle, and tea making facilities provided - which was great as I need at least one cuppa to start the day! The Chalet is ideally located for those needing to travel the short distance from Stranraer to Cairnryan to catch the ferry - it's 10-15 minutes away. We made our ferry to NI on time, and adopted two beautiful Labradors - which was the whole purpose of our adventure 😊 I would definitely stay here again if I need to catch a ferry! Thank you Sandy meeting you really made our stay more enjoyable 😊 There wasn't anything I didn't like - I wasn't expecting the Ritz!
- Alison (7/5): -
- michelle (10/5): We all had a great sleep which is very important, will definitely come back. - We like the property it was nice and cosy and a great location I’d prefer to have heating control in the room, as when we arrived it was raining and we were cold and the room was also freezing but as soon as I called the owner the heating was out straight on.
- Lynn (6/5): Average would have been better if the heating could be regulated from the room - It’s was central to where we were going. The only thing I didn’t like about the property is the heating was on for 20 mins when we arrived and not back on again. Myself and children were all freezing throughout the night.
- Alan (7/5): -
- Brian (8/5): Great place to stay - Clean and comfortable Quite cold inside
- Geoff (8/5): We would book again if ever in the area. - All fine Nothing.
- Julia (10/5): Would definitely stay here again. - Very private. Large room and all facilities required were there. Only one staff member to deal with and he was very friendly. I was a late arrival and he still answered the phone for instructions. He came to meet me the next day to see if I was warm enough or if I needed another heater. The car park was a bit awkward.
- Gordon (10/5): Excellent all round - Facilities location ideal Nothing
- Marian (8/5): It was value for money for what we required on this occasion. - Convenience to town Could have been 2 bath size towels, as there was 2 people. Tv was difficult to operate, and that was my husbands description. Smell of dampness.
- Paul (7/5): It was good and fulfilled my needs - I found everything had been provided with a clever use of the limited space. The facilities were clean, comfortable and very good value for money. Sandy was kindly on hand to answer my questions.
The premises were well located for the town facilities I found difficulty in locking the front door (chalet 3).
The space for cars to park and turn was very tight.
- Frank (7/5): -
- Janet (9/5): Comfortable 1 night stay, - Central location, clean, quiet Nothing
- Gary (9/5): Good - Good location Nothing
- John (8/5): -
- Graeme (8/5): Comfortable and very good value - The room had everything I needed other than a usb point to charge my phone.
Clean and comfortable room.
The walls are very thin and although I heard some voices, it could be intrusive if a family were next door As above
- Laura1385 (6/5): Not Perfect but ok for a stop off. - The room was as expected for a motel. It had what it needed for a one night stop over before catching an early ferry from Cairnryan.
It was easy to find and only a 10 minute walk to morrisons We could hear the people in the room next door and putting plugs in the wall would echo into neighbouring rooms. We were only supplied with one large towel for the two of us but other wise it was fine.
- Julie (7/5): -
- Lorraine (9/5): - Location and supplied coffee No fridge but owner supplied cool box which was too loud. Was disappointed that the inn was closed so no bar or community area. Shower poor.
- Michael (8/5): Good for overnight stay. - Perfect for a quick overnight stay
- susan (10/5): - Love it there very cosy and host is very nice.
- Alison (8/5): Great communication - Comfortable mattress and cosy little space
- Alison (8/5): Staff were very responsive - Mattress 😊
- Sarah (8/5): A good value, comfortable stay - The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. When we arrived after a very long journey, the room was not very warm. It was exceptionally cold outside though but it did take a while to warm up.
I probably misread the description but we thought the Inn would be open where we could maybe get a drink and some food.
- Craig (8/5): Perfect overnight stop for the ferry to Ireland. - The staff were friendly and accommodating, the room was tidy and very private. Its very conveniently located for the ferry to Larne. I would stay again in the future. The carpark was quite small, I found it quite tight with my van, it would be fine with a car though.
- Maxine (10/5): We have stayed here on many an occation and will do for many more - Bed super comfy. room very clean. very quiet area, 5 min walk to all cafe's, shop's and bar's. everything perfect nothing we didn't like
- Rajan (10/5): -
- susan (10/5): Osy - Everything was good N/A

- Guest (9/5): Comfy, practical and secure - Everything in place and very clean

- Stuart (10/5): - Owner was pleasant and friendly and let me book in earlier as i was attending an event. Room had tv was clean warm and had tea and coffee room was value for money Nothing
- Samuel Winton (9/5): -
- Jan (9/5): Very good - No hassle booking in stayed lots of time s No heating on when arrived
- Laverty (8/5): -
- James (8/5): - Clean and simple but effective, perfect location for an early morning ferry trip. The bathroom was way too small and claustrophobic.
- GARY (10/5): -
- Gerald (1/5): Will not recommend 2 anyone else! - N/A Feezing cold, I would have been warmer in the car!
- Ruth (7/5): One night - Chalet was clean and comfortable thou bathroom was quite small gentleman who runs it very nice pleasant and helpful they are perfect for one night stay.
- Rona (10/5): - It was so cute and just ideal for what we needed for one night. All good no dislikes.
- Tom (10/5): Friendly, and good value. - The very friendly host, Sandy, welcomed us as we drove in to the parking area. The Thistle is like and American motel, with the parking area in front of the rooms. Beds were very comfortable, tea and coffee in the room, excellent heating. Just a wee bit old fashioned.
Needs a shelf in the shower room for toiletries.
- John (9/5): Great little break away in a compact comfortable place close to all ameneties. - Everything went just fine.Happy to recommend to anyone in the area for reasonable priced accomodation. All good.
- Matthew (8/5): Excellent - Handy and easy to access
- Lynne (9/5): Very good value for money - The man who gave us the room, nothing was too much trouble for him. The room was comfortable and close to the Main Street for food etc. very helpful, room was clean and tidy and we weren’t there very long so it served the purpose. Very narrow drive way to the car park at the back but I wasn’t driving so it didn’t worry me !
- Alex (8/5): -
- Laura (10/5): -
- Vivienne (9/5): Stay with a twist - Loved the motel style room ,spacious ,clean an warm ,hairdryer in bathroom great little touch ,not far to walk into town either well situated, earn plugs provided ,definitely be back again Walls are thin ,so if next door is loud speaking or little hard of hearing your going to hear them lol ear plugs provided ,also the entrance to the area is narrow ,so if your not too confident best park on the street
- Stephen (7/5): Clean basic accommodation with great cleaning and tidying daily - Good contact about getting access to the room, all done via booking.com. Provided tea/coffee and toiletries great at the price point. Daily service to make up the bed and clean much appreciated after early starts

- Brian (7/5): -
- Nikki (8/5): - Wheelchair access was good. Narrow entrance to the car park, but having parking was great.
- Jeanette (10/5): Had a nice cosy stay in a clean chalet room. - The property was very handy in a good spot near town. Also it was nice and clean. We were satisfied with the property and didn’t find anything to not like.
- Pamela (6/5): Room was clean and served its purpose - Ease of access able to park right outside the door. Very dated. Could here guests in room next door
