The balcony door needs a catch so it can stay open by a few inches if its needed for some extra ventilation to keep the room cool.

Good full English breakfast,cereals,yogurts,pastries and toast.offered for breakfast. Good investment in the drinks machine,rather than the hot drinks being brought to the table. The Sunday Roast ,was better than l remembered,nice touch the Easter Egg when you paid the bill. The staff are all very friendly. Ideal location on the sea front opposit the Bandstand. That good lwill be booking to come back soon. The building is old ,but they have achieved a lot since taking it over. What can't be changed is the sqeaky floor boards in some of the rooms.

I would recommend staying at the Cumberland. - Room was basic and looking a little tired, however the beds were comfortable and shower nice and hot. The breakfast and bar food was very nice and exceeded what I was expecting. All of the staff were friendly, polite and very helpful. There was nothing to dislike about the Cumberland, for the price of the accommodation it was value for money.

Jill (9/5): We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay there again. - My mother and I were visiting Eastbourne for a birthday celebration and needed somewhere, reasonably priced, to stay for just one night. The Cumberland had a great offer. It had the added bonus of being right on the seafront. All the staff were really friendly and helpful. The lady on the Reception desk on Saturday evening was particularly lovely. Our rooms were warm, spotlessly clean and comfortable.

helen (8/5): - Good location, lovely staff, good choice of food for breakfast, nice ensuite room. I won't put this in didn't like, as what do you expect for the price, it is a little tired in places. We expected that and didn't for one minute bother us . We would definitely stay again and recommend it as a good base. There is a free permit to park outside on the street. I'd missed this, my fault, so parked on a multi storey close by. I don't know if this permit is offered all year round, you would need to check. Mentioned only to save others from making the same mistake.

I was very surprised to be honest how good the overall experience was. I live in Cape Town and when telling people in Eastbourne that we were staying at the Cumberland I received various responses - not all positive. But for me and for value for money it was excellent and I will certainly stay there again. The only think I did not like was the pillows on the bed. Far too hard. One needs soft, comfy pillows so as not to wake up with a stiff neck.
Stephen (6/5): Fine for a one night stay - The seafront position was excellent. View from the room outstanding. Staff happy, smiling and very helpful. facilities downstairs very good. Breakfast was great. The room we had was fairly basic. Beds not very comfortable especially the extra single. Bathroom was cool to cold with no heater and windows really needed secondary glazing for the winter months.
Miyabi (10/5): - It was a hotel I booked for my parents. They said it had a very homey atmosphere. The staff were kind. They felt comfortable and at ease during their stay. My parents’ English is not very good. Even so, the staff communicated patiently with them. When they mentioned they had an early-morning flight the next day, the hotel arranged a wake-up call. They took care of even the small details. We are very grateful. We would like to stay here again.
Caroline (10/5): Excellent, value for money & friendly. - I was grateful for the room upgrades my sister and I were given. The staff were friendly, efficient and helpful and the overall appearance and atmosphere was lovely. The location of the hotel is excellent and we fortunately found parking very easy. We didn’t eat in the restaurant (as a large coach party was in situ) but the bar food was fine and served in a timely matter by pleasant staff. Breakfast was good with a plentiful selection and pleasant staff. A minor criticism would be that the hotel was overheated.

The room was clean and spacious. I would have liked the option to book a sea view room and wouldn’t have minded paying extra for that but there wasn’t an option and unfortunately we didn’t get one which was a little disappointing

Catherine (8/5): Decent place to stay. Good value for money - Great location and good sized bedroom. Comfortable bed. A little dated in places. Shower was in the bath but if you are over 5”4 you’d struggle to fit under it!
Graeme (7/5): You cannot fault the location, it’s the only reason you need to stay here again, 1 min from beach! - Location and view superb! Breakfast excellent value for money. Staff very friendly and helpful. Bathroom very nice and more modern than the rest of the suite. Opposite bandstand was a bonus! Parking fine and handy. Furniture and room was very dated; shared balcony was a little overbearing as neighbours were constantly out there treating it like a private balcony, with them constantly smoking in particular not being ideal.

Maria (8/5): Seaside stay with positive vibes. - The hotel is right by the seaside, you can hear the waves at night, which is wonderful and relaxing. Unfortunately, the downside is that it’s also close to a busy road, so you can hear traffic as well. The location is excellent, with plenty of restaurants and shops nearby. The staff were very helpful and welcoming, and our dogs enjoyed their stay too! 😊 Most things are very positive. Perhaps is just the insulation of the rooms. You can hear people outside of our door like they're in our room.

Lee (10/5): - Wouldn’t normally leave reviews, but the standard of the Cumberland was top level that I feel I have to. By far the cleanest hotel I’ve ever stayed at! Professional too. All round 10/10.
Adam (7/5): All about location - Location is absolutely ideal. We stayed on the top floor at the front where you could also see the stage on the pier. The property itself is very dated. Hotel have done what they can to make it more appealing to the eye, but you can’t hide the constant creeks in the floor, nor the dated showers

Harle (2/5): It was relatively cheap to stay there, but you get what you pay for. Would suggest spending more on another hotel. - Location was good, staff were friendly All floorboards were creaky so room was noisy, upstairs floorboards creaky making sleep difficult. Room was above the bar which was noisy and kept me awake until 2am. Bathroom was small, shower head wouldn’t stay upright so kept swinging down with the weight of it. Rust patches were covered in mastic. Needs a general overhaul and updating. One lift for the hotel isn’t enough.
