- Paul (8/5): Overnighter in Basel. - Had a much larger room for my second stay - overnighter before flight next morning. Reception good. Did not try breakfast but it was good the week before. Well located to see Basel and just 75 yards from rail station and airport bus.
- Paul (8/5): - A good hotel, well located near the rail station. Checking in was fuss-free on arrival for my 2 night stay. Returning for 1 night before returning to the UK the following morning. Room was ok although it did have several areas of low ceilings - not helpful when you are 6’ 2”. Bathroom was functionally good. Very large shower with an overhead and usual water outlet. Water was hot and came with very good pressure (room was on the 3rd floor). Breakfast was v good with selection of all you really need. Dining room located on the 8th with good views.

Location is ok but a bit of a walk to anything ‘nice’, convenient for bus to airport/train connections.

- Michael (8/5): - The City Inn offers a real bargain in Basel, so long as you like an architectural puzzle. A single building has been subdivided into one expensive hotel and one mid-price hotel, and all the rooms and passageways in between the two that didn't quite make sense have been called the City Inn. You check in at the posh hotel and have a fine breakfast in a panoramic 8th floor room in the mid-price hotel, and somewhere in between you wander various corridors and bits of staircase looking for your room. It will be odd when you find it, but comfortable, and very reasonably priced.
- Anantha narayana (8/5): Overall is a good hotel with scope of improvement - Overall, it's a good hotel, conveniently located right in front of Basel SBB. The front desk staff were very helpful, and the breakfast was good. If you're traveling with heavy luggage, it's recommended to ask for a room with elevator access. However, there's room for improvement regarding room cleanliness (photos enclosed).
- machiko (10/5): - Some rooms only have partial lift access, so you may need to manually carry your luggage up a flight of stairs or so - but it’s a great, economical base in Basel that’s totally worth the effort. The room is pop-modern, simple but clean and highly functional layout, with a comfortable pillow and duvet and thoughtful amenities that make you feel well looked after without excess. The staff are very professional and friendly, assisting with check-in, and self-checkout is available via the email notification you receive. I’d be very happy to book again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Needs improvement - The room was big, but the cleaning lady came very late in the afternoon. It was hard to operate the AC unit, and at times it did not work. The drain in the shower was too slow, and you take shower always standing in water ankle high.
- Anne (4/5): - It was clean and convenient to the train station. I knew that it was a walk up, but three flights of 16 steps each with a suitcase is too much. There was a very noisy rom AC and opening the tiny window just let in more noise from the street.
- Calvin (4/5): Small overpriced room. - Extrememly tiny room even for European standards. Window AC was old and in terrible condition. For the money and I know Switzerland is expensive it was definitely not worth it.
- Jacqueline (8/5): - Excellent proximity to the station. The property is an add-on for the more prestigious Hotel Metropol. The directions to the breakfast room were confusing so we made ourselves comfortable in the only one we could find. It didn't seem to go down very well. Perhaps because it was the Metropols dining room. Would we use the City Inn again? Probably.

- Robert (8/5): - Very. Centrally located with free transit for customers. The team members were exceptional and service oriented. There were missing tiles in the shower with a very slow drain. Slow to fix the drain and the leaking HVAC unit that was leaking water into the room. Breakfast was GREAT! Recommend they change it up with sausage instead of bacon everyday.

- E (10/5): Basel Weekend - Hotel extremely convenient for the main Swiss railway station. Also located close to one of the main tram hubs making it extremely easy to get around the city.
- Peter (4/5): - Best thing about this property is it's location just around the corner from the main railway station. But we had a problem checking in as we were told that we had only booked for two, even though when I checked my receipt from Expedia, it clearly stated that the booking was for three. Then we were told that we didn't have breakfast included, when again it clearly stated on our Expedia receipt that breakfast was included. It was late at night and we just needed to get to bed, so didn't argue and our son shared the king bed. The room was an off-putting green colour and would have been okay, apart from the pillows that were really flimsy and uncomfortable. We didn't have a good night's sleep. There wasn't anyone on reception when we left the following morning, so we just dropped our key and left disappointed.

- Stacy (8/5): - The Staff at the hotel were all so lovely. They were all really friendly and helpful. Can’t compliment them enough! Hotel its self is decent for the price. Clean and comfortable. The room we stayed in had a decent radiator and air conditioning, a nice size room overall, & decent bathroom with an excellent shower. Hotel location is brilliant, loads of local transport options right outside, and the train station to further afield is a minute walk. In the interest of a totally honest review, there were a couple of slight downsides. The location of the hotel means it is obviously a little noisy at times, but not so bad that it would be a real complaint. I am a light sleeper and was woken up a couple minutes of times during our stay, not a huge issue. Lastly, breakfast wasn’t great. It wasn’t the worst and you’d definitely find something if you’re not too fussy (fine for a coffee and pastry) but there wasn’t a whole lot of options and everything that should be hot was cold by time we got there, so we only used the breakfast facilities once during our stay. We unfortunately didn’t have the time in the end to try the main restaurant, however the food looked and smelled wonderful and we heard good things about it from other visitors. Overall though, fab hotel for the price in a really good location for exploring the city and nearby places, with wonderful and helpful staff.

- M3407HNjohnm (8/5): Excellent location - Excellent location. Very clean. Gentleman on a night shift at the the reception on 15th Dec was a STAR! Female staff member of the 8floor (breakfast) was initially rude claiming in a public that we can not communicate properly, sure that we want to bilk breakfast, next day trying to improve but it was elephant in the room already. No wending machine for night commers, but fruits for a pick up at the reception (nice). Great for a short stay.

Arrived outside the station and struggled to find as it’s in between their sister hotels which you gain access through. Just to warn you, mobility issues and it’s a no. Lift only goes to certain floors so lots of steps. Room basic but clean. Bed really uncomfortable bed. Both had back ache. All landings have a coffee machine and a kettle so unlimited supply. Cleaners great and attentive. Given a Basel card on arrival for free transport. Supermarket top floor in the station for cheap water and basic food as Switzerland is expensive. S

- Cynthia (4/5): Give it a pass. Not mobility accessible - The only good things about this hotel: Alina at the front desk and the room is large. Access the hotel from Hotel Metropol. There is no ramp and you have a flight of stairs to the door. Then more stairs to reception. The elevator wasn’t working - room was on the 5th floor. Layout of the hotel is one of the weirdest I’ve ever seen.

The hotel is not staffed 24/7 but the adjacent hotel (which is part of the same group) is, and they can assist with check in/out, bookings and other queries. Everyone was really friendly. Not all of the hotel is accessible by lift so if this is needed, let the hotel know when booking. We would stay here again.

- racheldH4882TU (8/5): Good hotel for a city break - The location is great,though the entrance could be clearer. The room was a good size, comfortable bed and small shower room. The lack of shelving/drawer space was a minor niggle, but the worst thing about the room was that the curtains didn't fit the window space properly and too much light got in. The breakfast was good, and staff helpful.

- Stefan (6/5): - This hotel is part of a 3 hotel complex. City Inn being the cheapest. It clearly depends what you're after. Cheap accommodation? This is your place especially when discounted on Expedia which beats booking directly at the hotel. We booked on Expedia 2 minutes before turning up at reception and everything was already in their system so no complaints there. Just be mindful that you really do get what you pay for. Rooms are tiny including the bathroom which may be an issue if you're a bit oversized. The rooms was very clean and functional. Coffee facilities available in the hallway. Aircon exists but unfortunately the remote had flat batteries so we could only switch it on but not off. Check everything upon check-in to avoid nasty surprises. Our room was facing a side street where Uber/Cab/food delivery trucks would park to wait for their next customers. Noise was unbearable almost all night. Aircon was loud too but at least there was one. Window can be opened but it was too noisy outside to do so. Check-in was painless just around the corner right next to Starbucks. Don't get confused. It's one reception for 3 hotels. The location is right across from the train station which makes it very convenient if this is your mode of transport. Bus/Tram are free during your stay thanks to the included Guest Pass you receive at check-in. Overall your rate of satisfaction will depend on the location of your room. Pay a bit extra to go higher up. Lift is available.

- Corrinne (10/5): - Great location, convenient to train and trams, walk from train station! Easy walking to local attractions such as the zoo, and restaurants. The free Basel card means free transport on the trams that pass by the hotel door. We received an upgraded room which was wonderful, very spacious,clean and quiet. Staff have been very welcoming and helpful with information and luggage lifting for tired travellers. Recommend and will stay again.

- 621maxj (4/5): Well located but with a number of major drawbacks - First the pros: The hotel is well located close to the main railway station, with plenty of cafes and restaurants nearby. The rooms seem clean with a good number of towels and all the amenities you need. The Cons: The hotel is tough to find as the signage is horrible and it is actually located within it's two sister hotels Euler and Metropole. Checkin is (very very very slowly) done at the Metropole reception. Main issue is the noise. Outside many windows there is some type of machine which starts every several minutes with a very loud screech. This is loud enough to stop you sleeping even with the windows closed. The only way to counter this is to turn on the very loud external AC unit to mask the sound. At least this noise is predictable and compensates for the closed windows. Secondly the hotel has a very random layout and lifts do not reach many rooms. Long uneven corridors, steep badly lit staircase (I had to climb 4 in total) are not conducive to carrying luggage and woe betide anyone who has any kind of movement issues. The reception does not warm you about this or offer any options. Finally the breakfast for 3 hotels is very ordinary. All in all very disappointing

However, screeching noise all night that the check in person nonchalantly said in the morning was the AC - and shrugged his shoulders. Awful breakfast which I refused to eat. Lovely bathroom / shower but shower gel bottle was empty - basics!?

Even though the gentleman at the reception was extremely polite and very helpful my check in was delayed by one hour with the excuse that the TV needed to be fixed whereas I found out later that this was because of late checkout of the previous tenants. Very bad way to start the stay. Rooms are very average to below average , small tv and generally horrible first impression especially when I compare with other hotels even cheaper that I have used the last 10 years in Basel!

- James (4/5): Heating wouldn't come on - Only stayed for one night but unfortunately the room was really cold, and despite turning the radiator up, and trying to control the heating via a remote control, nothing seemed to happen and the room remained cold all night.
- IllinoisSenior (6/5): Tiny room. Great location. - Very tiny room and bath but in a great location a few steps from the train station and across from all the local tram lines. Check in as at the Hotel Euler which is attached to the City Inn. Rooms at the Euler are more expensive but I think the better choice if you can afford it. The desk staff at the hotel were especially helpful. The hotel is very clean and had all the amenities you would need. Only drawback is the size of the room and the hallways look a little worn. Yes, the chartreuse color really is how one wall in the room is painted.

The only minus - which is not the hotel's fault, was the noise. Our room was looking out to a narrow street which seemed to be quite, but at night it was really loud - cars, screeming - it was difficult to sleep. All the hotel related elements were perfect!
- 1ntlpil0t (6/5): OK Choice - Super convenient to the Bahnhof and tram station, even in the worst weather. Starbucks is another plus, located in the corner of the same building. A small breakfast area is well appointed and selections are adequate. Not many hotels still distribute newspapers and my choice was available (the Intl NY Times). Hallways were old school, complex but clean enough. Room was large, bathroom extra large, shower extra, extra large, but the colors left me suspended in the 1960s. All Basel hotels will likely offer a tram pass for your stay, and this one was no exception. The desk and breakfast staff are superb.

We were surprised that there were no adapters to charge our phones.

Windows had te remain shut or on slit because of noisy climate installations nearby. Halfway our stay curtains came down but were replaced next day. Breakfast was the worst we had in years.

We were very confused by the check-in email info. Is right next to the Euler hotel. You can even walk through the reception area of the Euler to get there. Easy. You can see it from the SSB train station.

- KA FU (10/5): Good Location - We enjoy our stay! Except we had to carry our luggages for a few stairs to reach the room.
- AdelaideJulie (10/5): Good location - We arrived in Basel by train & stayed one night. We booked this hotel for the location near the train station. The room was compact but was fine for one night with a very comfortable bed & air-conditioning. The bathroom although small had a wonderful shower. Reception was friendly & professional. There are plenty of fast food, supermarkets & coffee shops next to the hotel. It is close to the cathedral & river.

- Richard (8/5): Functional hotel in Basel, by the Train Station - Hotel is well positioned. Basic hotel layout, ideal for those on the move. The lime green decor likely won’t be to most people’s tastes. Service was good, room we initially got smelt funny so the staff got us a new and upgraded room
- Verified traveler (10/5): Good Location next to Main Train Station and Trams - Located next to main train station and trams. Very friendly staff. Nice lobby with comfortable seating area. Nice wait staff for breakfast. Room had clean sheets with wall heater and air conditioner. The carpets were old and stained. The shower had very good hot water and great water pressure. There was a hair dryer and room safe. The door was thin. Could hear people exit and enter their rooms. But, it was quiet overall. Decent price for location.
- Rachel (6/5): - Part of the larger Hotel Euler (where you check in) this is the lesser version. The room was clean but absolutely tiny… could barely turn around in the bathroom (and I was upgraded) and the hallway reeked like cigarette smoke. It was also a maze to get to the room and you felt like you were going to fall through the stairs it was so rickety The staff were really lovely though and the place was clean. For a three star hotel I expected more and other cities like Geneva and Lucerne have much better for the same price.
- Calvin (8/5): The hotel is more than meets the eye! - He hotel was easy to find. I checked in at the Hotel Euler front desk. They directed me down a an interesting back hallway which seemed very strange. Up one elevator. My room was very tiny and that was with a twin bed! However, within time, I felt very comfortable in it. The room and the security measure they use made me feel safe. The bed and comforter were comfortable and it was easy to adjust the heat in the room. The bathroom was tiny as well, but was provided with all the accessories one needs. Towels were thick and soft. The shower stall tiny as well, however, this may have been once the very best showers in a hotel I’ve used. Superb water pressure and instant hot water. The lobby has a bar/restaurant and had a lady playing a baby grand the evening I was there. My first impressions were that I was ripped off with this room, but after being in it for two nights, I changed my mind and felt very positive.
- john sheldon (8/5): - Close to the Train Station Great Customer Service Don’t believe the Negative Reviews, yes the Rooms are down a hallway but it is safe, well lit and not that far to the elevator. We requested a room almost a year in advance and our request was fulfilled with no issues. My only minor complaints are that the Bathroom is on the small side and there is no closet. We would stay here again n a heartbeat.
- Kaitlyn (8/5): - Great stay for a good price. We were staying in Basel for the Christmas markets and this was a perfect location. Easy access to public transportation and very helpful staff!
- Menelea (8/5): - Access to room is little hard for older people and breakfast is expensive, service and workers are nice and honest so as location which is across the train station.
- Bob (10/5): Excellent hotel - Staff were universally kind and helpful and I would definitely stay here again.
- Jack (4/5): Things to whinge about - Three hotels have been consolidated into one business served by a single front desk, lobby, and restaurant. Because of this, the hotel is a maze of strangely connected corridors. My biggest concern is that my roof, at the far end of the labyrinth, had only a single exit as did that floor of the hotel, down a winding staircase. This arrangement strikes me as a fire hazard. The rooms were okay and bathrooms really tiny, but functional. Staff were someone sparse. The breakfast selection is limited, with some supplies running out by 7:30 and not replenished. I didn't appreciate the hostess of the breakfast restaurant yelling across all the other dinners to get my room number. All together, it left me in a pretty poor mood.
- Tom (6/5): - Extremely convenient location. But my room was absolutely tiny, nothing like the picture shown on Expedia. The carpet was really dirty (looks like a bunch of students had a house party in there). The bathroom was clean but also incredibly tiny. If you have more than just a carry on luggage good luck fitting you and the luggage into the room.

- Michael (8/5): Extended stay after river cruise - Check in was quick and easy. Receptionist escorted us to the lift as there were three hotels in the complex. Free Basel Card issued allowing free travel on buses and trams and 50% off museum entry which was very helpful Room was as expected, reasonable size and functional. Aircon was poor as hidden behind curtains and quite noisy. Bathroom was very small especially for tall people. Light switch was faulty but quickly repaired after reporting the issue. Did not take breakfast as quite expensive ~£22pp and used nearby cafes. Check out straightforward and luggage stored before catching nearby bus to the airport.

The staff were always so helpful with directions and help with the buses and the pass made it so easy to get back to the airport! We had an economy room so it was small but comfy bed and the WiFi was excellent for us as we were both on a work trip so needed good internet access.

- Olga (4/5): I was expecting more comfortable and clean room - The hotel did not have an elevator all the way to the room, we have to carry all of our luggage through long halls and one level up, beside that the ac was very noisy and the room did not look clean enough, it was full of dust and the carpet was full of spots

The bus to the airport was a 1/2 a block away. The staff was very courteous and helpful. Given the opportunity, I would stay here again.
