Guest Reviews
- David (10/5): - Everything Nothing
- fiona (10/5): - The friendly welcome, plenty clothes storage, hooks on bedroom door very useful and so often not provided. Loved all the stylish touches . Very nice breakfast in a well appointed room. Additional power point would be handy for hearing aids
- Anne (10/5): Lovely B&B - Friendly hosts. Good breakfasts with gluten-free choices. Lovely, clean room and very comfortable bed. Good location near train station. Nothing.
- Mike (10/5): Very good stay - Nice people and comfortable room Nothing
- John (10/5): - The whole stay Nothing
- Soph (10/5): -
- alexis (10/5): - Everything was great. Ian and Ruth were 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻.
- andrew (10/5): Pleasantly suprised and very satisfied. Good historical location. - The welcome, friendliness, the overall appearance of the guesthouse. The freshly decorated bedroom. The large bathroom and more importantly the bath towels were exceptional due to their size and comfort even for those who have an above average girth. The breakfast was freshly prepared with accompanying cereal if required , no shortage of tea or coffee .
Probably one of the best guest houses that we have stayed in. As a bonus, easy parking in front of property and real traditional pub across the road with sagging shelves of liquers that nobody longer drinks. Approx 200 metres from town centre and railway station.

- Tony (9/5): Friendly hosts, comfortable room, great location close to town and railway station, great breakfasts - Breakfast was very good. Good choice of times - three choices. As an habitually early riser who likes to be up and out I was grateful for the 7.30am option Not really the fault of the hosts, probably the location, but the reception on some of the TV channels was poor or non-existent. Had there been very poor weather, confining me indoors, this could have been a nuisance.
- Lee (8/5): Very enjoyable. May well stay there again. - This B+B is very warm, friendly and welcoming. It is a 'solid' structure in that a peaceful environment is always maintained. The rooms are comfortably basic. The bathroom/shower in my room was fitted with two substantial wall mounted grab handles to enable the user to get in and out without fear of slipping or over balancing. This type of aid is missing from nearly all hotels and B+B's i stay in and that includes much higher rated properties than this. Well done The Cowrie!. The Cowrie is only a five minute walk from the railway station. Berwick also hosts a very good Indian restaurant in Bridge Street, Magna Tandoori. Well worth checking out. Nothing really. The Cowrie is a B+B and does not pretend to be otherwise. Just plain good.

- Julie (8/5): Overall we had a lovely stay. - The hosts Ian and Ruth were lovely. Great breakfast. The room was a bit on the small side but a comfortable bed and very clean. Parking was a bit of an issue because of the main road. We used a free car park just a short walk away.
- Marion (8/5): -
- Diane (9/5): -
- Joseph (10/5): Excellent, well worth the visit. - Good location easy to get too and too find again when we had been walking..I didn't use the WiFi but think sue had a bit of a problem with it. A bit age related but could have used a hand rail on both sides of the staircase.
- Winnie (10/5): excellent was made very welcome and thoroughly enjoyed my stay i will be back - breakfast was excellent. the room was light and airy and spacious and very comfortable and clean. the service from both Ian and Ruth was excellent and i was made very welcome and nothing was tooo much trouble for them
- Guy (10/5): 2 thumbs up. - The place was great abd the owners that served the breakfast were friendly and great to chat with. A perfect B&B stay Nothing.
- David (9/5): -
- MaggieJL (10/5): Friendly hosts, very comfortable stay - Hosts were welcoming, room comfortable and breakfasts, delicious! The location is central and within walking distance of the rail station. Very conveniently located for accessing Berwick-on-Tweed attractions. The room was located on the front of the house so traffic a bit noisy but very quiet at night.
- Marion (10/5): This was our second stay at this accommodation and would certainly return. - Location close to Railway Station. Continental and English breakfast offered. We could not find any fault with any part of our stay.
- Wallace (8/5): -

- ROBERT (10/5): Ian made us feel very welcome and explained the local attractions. Very pleasant stay and would highly recommend - Accommodating host and spacious room Nothing

- Jeffrey (10/5): - Lovely Location. Very friendly owners.
Loft extension room was gorgeous, modern and spacious. The bathroom had both aqubath and walk in power shower, which was beautiful after a day's walking.
Breakfast was ample and well presented.
Enjoyed our time there. No real parking on street for long
But was a free council car park just down the road.
- Ann (10/5): -
- Michael (8/5): Certainly the best breakfast with lovely local ingredients, the place is well situated to the town . - The room was comfortable an d well furnished, the bed was comfortable, it was well decorated and the host was extremely pleasant.
Breakfast was brilliant. The place looks taciturn from the outside and we were in two minds whether to stay or not. Parking outside was ok but we needed to move the car in the morning.
- Carolyn (9/5): Lovely bed and breakfast in a beautiful little town. - We loved our quiet, comfortable and spacious room at the top of the house. Breakfast was delicious and substantial and hosts welcoming. Convenient for the station. Everything was great.
- Stephanie (10/5): - Breakfast great. Parking a little difficult as in centre of town
- Doris (10/5): Ruth and Ian were really good hosts, nothing too much trouble. The room was excellent. - The room was lovely, lots a space, great bathroom and shower. Nothing
- Robert (8/5): Very enjoyable and well worth what we paid - Good location near the railway station but easily accessible from the town centre.
- Andrew (10/5): Probably the best guest house I've ever stayed in. Very, very highly recommended! - Extremely warm and generous spirited host. Thank you, Ian! Possibly a little clearer information about fire evacuation procedures and fire exit signage would have been handy.
- Kathy (10/5): Enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend The Cowrie Guesthouse. - The Cowrie is situated just a few minutes away from the railway station and also nearby to many shops, pubs and restaurants. On arrival we were greeted by Ian and shown to our rooms which were very clean and comfortable. The fresh milk in the landing fridge for guests to use was particularly appreciated. The breakfasts were great and we especially liked the imaginative specials. The hosts, Ian and Ruth were very friendly and helpful and we would definitely stay here again if visiting Berwick-upon-Tweed. Slight problem with our shower but these things can happen in the best run of establishments.
- Moira (10/5): A relaxing break. - Room 5 was a large room decorated to a very good standard. The bathroom with a spa bath and walk in shower was lovely.
I particularly like the different special breakfasts that were on offer each morning. Nothing
- Margaret (9/5): -

- David (10/5): We would definitely stay there again - Beautiful if small rooms with everything you would expect. Beautifully presented breakfast with superb choice There was nothing that I didn’t like
- andrew (10/5): Very comfortable - Very well kept guest house Very convenient
- Woodruff (9/5): Would visit again if coming to this location. - Breakfast very good with good choices.
Good shower and good hot water.Nice and clean&modern. Mattress to soft.
- Ian (9/5): Will be back to Berwick, and will certainly stay at Cowrie again. - Don't judge Cowrie from the outside as it looks a bit ordinary. Inside, the hosts are very friendly and helpful, the rooms have everything you need and the breakfast is great. There is even a fridge with fresh milk to make your own cups of tea or coffee. Can't think of anything
- Catherine (9/5): - I had an excellent stay here. The room was very comfortable and clean, the breakfast was delicious, and I appreciated the fresh milk left in a landing fridge for guests to use. It's also moments from the railway station and the centre of Berwick. I'm looking forward to visiting again soon!
- Steph (6/5): - Bathroom was a good size and clean.
The top of the bed head, back of the bedside cabinet and, skirtings were very dusty, cobwebs with dust settled on the cobwebs. Obviously the room hadn’t been checked before we arrived.
The breakfast was good, specials a good idea. See above
- Andrew (9/5): Lovely break.x - Breakfast was lovely.Good location.Owners were absolutely lovely.Will definitely stay again.x
- Moriah (10/5): - Great place to stay! Delicious breakfast. The hosts were extremely helpful with questions and very kind. I would stay here again! Also the location is close to the train station.
- Jennifer (10/5): Exceptional - Location, comfort and a friendly establishment
- Joan (10/5): Very enjoyable - Excellent breakfast Very friendly hosts
- Maria (10/5): Excellent - Everything was fantastic, hotel, area. Nothing
- John (7/5): A lovely place to stay - It is a lovely B&B, very clean and lovely decor, we only had toast for breakfast as we don't usually eat until later but the breakfast we saw served looked lovely, the owners were very friendly and helpful, the noise from the road wasn't as bad as we were expecting, it's close to the centre so it will be a bit noisy, the bed was one of the most comfortable we have had ,Berwick is a beautiful place to stay, we would recommend staying at the B&B and Berwick The double room is extremely small for 2 people, especially if one of them is 6 foot tall and quite big, it would be perfect for one person but we could hardly move around at all and as we had to have the case, ruck sacks, hiking shoes etc on the floor at the side of the bed we tripped over quite a few times as there was just no room, there is a chair but if you sit on it and the other person wants to walk by you have to get up and move it, the shower is amazing, but there is little room to lift your arms to wash without worrying about whacking yourself on the glass doors, we would stay again, it is a lovely place but in a king room not the double
- Peter (10/5): Exceptional - Friendly, helpful proprietors. Lovely comfy luxurious room with all facilities you need. Lovely breakfast room and exceptional food cooked alternatively by Ruth and Ian. Perfectly located for Berwick which we loved. Nothing
- Elizabeth (9/5): Superb -
- Shirley (10/5): Lovely B&B - Our second stay with Ruth and Ian, a lovely friendly couple who go all out to provide a comfortable visit. Great breakfast choice, cosy beds, light airy rooms with windows that open !! ( rare in some places ) fresh milk and plenty refreshments. If ever in the area again we would definitely stay with them.
- Jonathan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sandra (10/5): A lovely place to stay. - We had a lovely big bedroom and a good size bathroom. Our bed was very comfy.. position was good. We managed to juggle parking nearby. The hosts were lovely. A good breakfast. I had a special breakfast one day it was lovely. No faults at all. But a fan would have been helpful when weather good.
- Bennett (10/5): Exceptional - Really good hosts. The room was compact but had everything you need in it. Most of all it was clean. Had a lovely stay there. Would book again.
- Michelle (10/5): Exceptional - Great location, large comfortable rooms, fresh milk for drinks, excellent breakfast, very friendly hosts. Free parking in the area. Train station 5 minute walk. Lots of local places to eat and drink. Limoncello restaurant very reasonably priced and good food. Nothing, was perfect for us
- John (10/5): Exceptional - The location was great and the owner very friendly and organised. All was fine.
- Elizabeth (10/5): A great stay - The host Ruth is absolutely lovely. Bed extremely comfy and one of the best breakfasts I've had in a B&B. Clean and cosy.
- John (9/5): Lovely value for money break - Friendly and helpful proprietor. Great location in the town centre and a few minutes walk from the train station. Great breakfast, everything well organised. Loads of cafés and coffee shops nearby. Fresh milk just outside our room in a shared fridge. Everything was fine.
- James (9/5): Superb - Location and cleanliness . Good breakfast !
- Andy (7/5): Ideal short stay - Close to station, able to leave bag after checkout. Room was illuminated from outside carpark lights and blackout curtains were struggling to cope.
Found very few places to eat open in early June.
Limoncello to be avoided as service is pants
- Amanda (9/5): Lovely accommodation, excellent breakfast and Ruth and Ian superb hosts - Central location -excellent for visiting the town centre without a car. If we had to make any comment here at all is the road is quite busy and a bit noisy but we used the fan provided and slept very well.
- Terry (10/5): Exceptional - Great place to stay near the centre of Berwick. Easy free parking. Ian and Ruth are great hosts. Breakfast was incredible and plenty of choice, I had haggis one morning. Nice little touches made the stay even more enjoyable for us. There was absolutely nothing to dislike
- Peter (9/5): A very clean bed and breakfast in a central location - We loved the Cowrie Guest House, which has five ensuite double rooms, which are located on two floors, which are got to by flights of stairs. Our spacious room was the only room on the second floor with a jacuzzi bath and a separate walk in shower. Plenty of storage space is available. We had two easy chairs and another one in front of the dressing table. The bed was very comfortable with a medium mattress.
- Gina (9/5): Lovely guest house in a great location for a weekend getaway. - Great location to explore Berwick on foot, and further afield by car or bus/train. The room was compact but comfortable with everything we needed for a great stay. Lovely friendly hosts and attention to detail throughout the stay. Super clean and a great breakfast, nothing to fault! Nothing! All great!
- Iain (9/5): Excellent, friendly, welcoming . - We booked this at 1 hours notice b4 arrival. A great B&B with lots of nice touches in the room. We had room 3. Brekky was excellent, with a good choice and Ian was a great host. Excellent bathroom too. I would definitely stay here again.
- Smith (10/5): Fabulous - Both fabi Liked every thing about it fabulous
- Carol (9/5): Superb -
- Eve (10/5): Uber clean, comfortable, great breakfasts - This is a boutique guest house in an seventeenth century building. It was very comfortable and the breakfast food was impeccable served and delicious.
The guest house is very clean. The two owners were bith very friendly and chatted with us. The worst thing that happened was that the bathroom got very steamy 🤭
- Harriet (10/5): Perfect place to stay - Hosts were friendly and helpful. They went out of their way to cater for me, as I have food intolerance. Location of Guest House is great.
- Debbie (10/5): Fabulous guest house and hosts! Excellent place to stay ! - Great location and exceptional accommodations Nothing!
- Marc (10/5): Stay between 2/5/25 - 7/5/25 - Ruth and Ian were very good hosts. Room very comfortable, nice bed and shower facilities. Breakfast first class every time. Toilet took quite a few attempts to flush and traffic noise was a little disappointing when not used to it. Would recommend sound proofing windows.
- Graham (9/5): Superb -
- Michael (10/5): Thoroughly enjoyed berwick and accommodation - Great hosts, comfortable room, shower, bathroom, lovely breakfast, great attention to detail Cannot fault this little gem
- Louise (10/5): Fantastic weekend - Central, very clean, lovely hosts , excellent breakfast, good value
- Christopher (10/5): A gem in the heart of Berwick - really nice, clean and comfortable accommodation with a great shower. having to leave.
- Neil (10/5): - Lovely place in a great town
- Pat (8/5): Friendly helpful owners keen to ensure you have good stay - There was nothing for me to dislike
The room was v comfortable for me as a solo traveller ( possibly the smallest room ) and the hosts have taken time to ensure their guest house has everything you need including ear plugs ( though it wasn’t noisy when I was there)
- Lucie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Christine (10/5): An enjoyable stay in in a warm, welcoming environment, providing superb, high quality breakfasts. - Centre of town location in an interesting old house. Nothing.
- Joanna (8/5): Very good -

- Simon (10/5): - Great place to stay, central, lovelly rooms, great breakfasts, nice hosts
- Piea (8/5): Good location and great hosts. - Ian and Ruth were lovely hosts and Ian was helpful with information on check in. we enjoyed our stay.
Breakfast was great. Even though we enjoyed our stay, unfortunately although room was nicely decorated and bedding was of a high standard, the room was very small and we struggled finding space for our two suitcases. When we managed to find space we had to be careful not to trip over cases.
- Mary (9/5): Superb - The breakfasts were yummy and Ian and Ruth were very nice.
- Linda (10/5): Exceptional - Ian is very approachable, and his local knowledge is A1. A very friendly host.
Great breakfast, food 10/10 presentation 11/10. Loved the local sausage and haggis.
A warm and ver comfortable room.
Location - We could not ask for better. We weren't aware it was on Main Street until we arrived, and we were able to park up our car and have a truly relaxing break. The parking in Berwick upon Tweed is ample and free on Council Car Parks but also very reasonable at the train station
It was a very pleasant trip and will return to complete our tour of the town and surrounding attractions. We had to leave too soon. Would book longer next time.
- Robert (10/5): Exceptional - Friendly and helpful hosts
Superb breakfast
- Jonathan (10/5): The perfect guest house in Berwick - The hosts were both very friendly, and the breakfasts were delicious and varied. Our room was really well thought-out and had everything we might need in it. And the Cowrie Guest House is perfectly located to explore Berwick!
