Guest Reviews
- Nicholas (8/5): Old style B&B in a comfortable house. - Comfortable stay in a typical old style B&B, with a shared bathroom in someone's home. The hosts are really friendly and helpful (and make a great breakfast), the room was fine, although mattress/pillows were on the thin side and you could hear noise from outside of the room, and tv reception could be intermittent at times! Wifi though was excellent, and never had any issues with waiting for the bathroom. It's a short drive into Sligo or Strandhill.
- Behdad (8/5): good enough for a quick stay overnight - know that this is a B&B at someone's house in a very nice neighborhood. Be on the lookout for kids on their bikes and running around the street, so you do not run them over. Also all the houses look the same so do not go to the wrong one in the dark, like I did. The owner is a lovely, retired gentleman, the house is very clean. You have to share the bathroom with the other rooms/guests. The pillows are little flat and the bed is kind of stiff
- Nick (8/5): - Expedia description seemed to indicate it was a hotel near the beach and a golf course but it is actually just a house in a cull-de-sac with not indication that it is a even a B&B.
A bed for the night with no frills and a nice breakfast for an additional €10.
Easy access to the town centre (20 minute walk).
- Eimear (10/5): - Lovely house and room. Host was very helpful in arranging transport for us and recommending thins in Sligo town.
- Dj (8/5): - Mary and Peter are lovely. If you're trying to see Sligo, it's a bit out of the way.
- Sara (2/5): - I booked The Old Fort Lodge based on the photo of a three story stone manor building set on large well manicured grass lawns, as the leading photo. There were photos of outdoor sports that indicated being attached to the stone fort or manor house.
The address was 3 Old Fort Road.
About the 13th photo was of a family home which I thought was an attached property.
I booked two nights, received confirmation then no other emails. Worried 24 hours before hand I googled again, the photo of the stone fort or manor house came up again, same address which I googled and this time pressed the street view image to get a 360 degree view of a suburb and realised I’d booked someone’s family home.
I would never have deliberately booked that.
I immediately emailed The Old Fort Lodge that I was canceling (gave no reason) understanding I would receive no refund.
No reply at all.
- Barbara (8/5): - The breakfast was very well done.
The pillows could be better.
The place was very clean.
I think small mirror in the bedrooms would be good as the bathroom is shared.
Also i think little tables in the bathrooms would be nice so you would have more place to put your toiletries.
Parking was great and convenient.
Thanks Peter for your hopitality
- Candida (10/5): Sligo - Very small B&B (3 rooms). Our room was spotless and comfortable with tea/coffee facilities and large bottle of water. Beautiful towels.
- Bridget (6/5): - Bit of a longer walk to town than expected.
- Jeff (10/5): - Nice and quiet B&B.
- Dorothy (8/5): - The check in was thorough and pleasant. Mary responded positively to our extra requests and Peter served a complete breakfast that was scrumpdelicous with all the trimmings.
- Mary (10/5): - This bed-and-breakfast was very unique very clean. Sligo was a beautiful city!
- Terrence (6/5): - The property was clean and tidy. Beds were a bit soft. No sheet, which is not unusual for Europe. If you don't mind sharing the bathroom with two other groups it is a very reasonably priced option.
- Peter (10/5): - We were very well looked after by the owners who also took us to the station.
- Margaret (10/5): - Hosts were friendly and very helpful.
- Nancee (8/5): - The owners disappeared behind closed doors the entire time-not breakfast. We wanted to turn the register on for some heat, but didn’t know how to reach them. We emailed but didn’t get a response. In hindsight we should have looked for a phone number.
- Gavin (8/5): - Great place just out of the town centre
- Cammie (10/5): Friendly, comfortable, great breakfast! - We had a lovely stay at the Old Fort Lodge! The hosts were friendly and welcoming and our room was very comfortable. The highlight was the lovely cooked breakfast in the morning to get us started on our day!
- Noel (10/5): - Peter was a gentleman and so nice and beautiful room and beautiful breakfast so quiet.
- DOUGLAS (10/5): - Old Fort B&B is a fine option for a visitor who doesn't mind staying outside the town centre. The walk from the train station is pleasant, and the neighborhood is charming. Clean, comfortable accommodations, with a full Irish breakfast.
- sun young (2/5): - worst
- P R J (4/5): Glad to be leaving. - Very dated and tired condition everything was basic no heating house was cold and shared bathroom . Looks like it was furnished out of a charity shop. Breakfast was good. Would not be a candidate for 4 in a bed.
- Louise (10/5): - Owners were perfect blend of yin and yang. Mary is a sociable, engaging and caring hostess, whilst Peter exudes an unflappable but equally compassionate calm. Both professional without resorting to a robotic script. Their wonderful manner (and the robust breakfast) got me through a difficult weekend and enabled me to have the end of life discussion my mum needed. I would heartily recommend for those who can share a bathroom without hysterics, and who understand that tasteful, established furnishings are more in keeping with the sustainable planet we all claim to love than this year’s bling. I will be back.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Proprietors are very friendly. Property is within easy walking distance to town.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Bright spacious and clean room, located in nice area.
