The full breakfast and baked goods were delicious. It was an easy walk to town too! We would definitely stay here again.
• 834lawrenceh (2/5): Holbrook House - A HORRIBLE place - STAY AWAY from this B&B. We booked a room for two nights but left after the first night. There are several reasons for this. 1. I requested a first floor room because I'm handicapped and struggle on stairs. When we got there we were given a second floor room and the owner pleaded ignorance. Yet I specifically communicated and requested the first floor room. 2. The room we got was a joke. a. no closet, no safe, a joke of a desk, minimal space. No place to hang anything. b. bathroom had a tub, which for an orthopedically handicapped person is a real problem. For this reason I couldn't bathe. c. The bed was torturously uncomfortable. After one sleepless night my wife and I would have confessed to any crime if pushed, it was that uncomfortable. The mattress was lumpy, the bed wasn't level (foot of the bed was considerably higher than the head), and the pillows smelled like they hadn't been laundered. d. the carpets were wrinkling because of poor installation, the wallpaper was peeling, the decor of the room was in a style my wife described as "nothing matches". Basically yard stale antique. e. using Motel 8 soaps works if you're not paying $380 a night. But it didn't work for us. f. It's a B&B and they served breakfast. The breakfast wasn't horrible but after the night we had we decided it wasn't that great either. We left after the first night and attempted to get a refund, first from the innkeeper, then from Expedia, with no success. The innkeepern said he had no objection to refunding our second night but when Expedia contacted him, they were unable to work it out. My suggestion to you, if you're reading this review, is look somewhere else. Bar Harbor's a great place to visit and Holbrook House pretty much ruined it for us.
• Josi1949 (6/5): Terrible Room - Terrible room! I reserved the Frenchman Bay room based on the photos on the website only to find that the bathroom (2piece) was basically in a closet with the sink being outside next to the door! It was difficult to see this by looking at the photos. Given that the inn was fully booked as was the entire town of Bar Harbor, I had no choice but to endure the less than ideal accommodations. I would not recommend reserving this room. Other than the room the inn was ok- breakfasts were good and it was in a good location several blocks from the downtown.
• KDAA (10/5): Beautiful B&B. Excellent stay. Nice location - First time staying here and in Bar Harbor and we were very happy with our choice. Location - Very good. Maybe a 10 minute walk to downtown, so convenient to the shops, restaurant, and waterfront, but far enough away to be quiet. Off street parking and never had a problem getting a spot. Exterior - Very pretty and beautiful gardens. Front porch seating and some garden seating. Common areas were very nice, with an enclosed sunroom for breakfast. Room - We had the Cadillac room which is a spacious room for two on the top floor. We loved it and it worked perfectly for us. Please read my notes regarding whether it will work for you. It had a really nice sofa to watch TV, plus a separate seating area for two. Mini-fridge and microwave included. Two large closets. The bed was fine with good pillows and generally we slept well. Some road noise in the morning, but very minor. Some noise from neighbors as well as is is an vintage home, but to be expected and not a problem for us. With the room AC running, you get a nice white noise background. AC worked well. The windows also open if you want fresh air. Bathroom was well appointed. The room was cleaned well every day. Notes on this room: This is the top floor of the house. It requires two flights of stairs to get there and is built into the eaves. If you have mobility issues, I would not take this room. If you are over about 5' 10", you might want to avoid this. The ceiling is low is places, including the shower. Also, because of the layout, there is no room for nightstands next to the bed. The room is spacious and there is no shortage of space in general. but it does require two flights of stairs so keep that in mind. We really liked how quaint it was, but the room isn't for everyone. Breakfast: Breakfasts were excellent and ample. We generally skipped lunch and went right to an early dinner as they were so filling. There were options for what to get, but we always opted for the main selection and never regretted it. Fresh hot coffee and juices in the morning. 24x7 Keurig and snacks, both packaged and homemade. Service: Everyone was friendly and we had no issues. We would gladly go back here on another visit to Bar Harbor.

• Lindsay (10/5): - Eric and his team were wonderful. We feel so lucky that they had a last minute room available for a few days. A delightful and special place to stay. Breakfast and snacks were delicious and plentiful. Bed was comfortable and the shower was HEAVEN. This B&B is just a couple of blocks from the main street of Bar Harbor. We only used our car to drive to Acadia, minutes away from Holbrook House. There is even a park shuttle close, if you don't want to take your car into the park. We cannot wait to go back!!! Highly recommend!!
• Dan (8/5): - Nice location and excellent breakfast. Rooms don't look like photo on website. Room was small and Victorian feel and bed not comfortable. Fortunately we didn't spend time in room. Breakfast was the highlight prepared by a former chef. Just wish coffee was stronger/better prepared but they did have a Keurig machine as alternative.
• Debra (10/5): Very Nice - Nice Inn on a busy street. Short walk to Main Street. Exterior is beautifully landscaped and a nice front porch. Our room was a bit small, but very clean and comfy. Hosts are busy but helpful and friendly. Breakfast was delicious.

Our room was small , bed was soft , uncomfortable, and small (not sure it was a queen as advertised) and didn't look anything like brochure photo. Top feature was home cooked elaborate breakfast each morning- although I wish he had better (stronger coffee). Well located a 8 minute walk from town center.
• Stephen (10/5): - When you enter in, it is a very calm and peaceful environment. Very clean. People very friendly and accommodating. Breakfast is great. Wonderful location to town. Only feedback would be try to get a room on the backside away from the street as sometimes you can hear traffic.

• NatParkLove (10/5): Charming B&B near downtown Bar Harbor - We stayed at Holbrook House in the Ash Cottage for 5 nights this summer and absolutely loved our stay here! The location was great - it was close enough to downtown without being right in the middle of all the hustle and bustle. It was SO quiet at night! The breakfasts and afternoon snacks were completely delicious! Definitely make it a point to grab the daily baked goods each afternoon after 3. One of our favorite parts of the inn was the long front porch - every late afternoon before dinner, we'd sit out here watching the world go by. It was also handy for a rainy day to be outdoors without getting wet. As far as the cottage specifically, it was nice having our own space separate from the house with a little porch area as well. The unit was exceptionally clean with a spacious walk-in shower, 2 bedrooms and small sitting area. The only suggestions I have are to put in a couple lamps in the living room - maybe a floor lamp and a tabletop lamp, so that people who don't want the very bright overhead lights on can have softer lighting and not sit in the dark. Also as a heads up, the beds are very comfortable but VERY high. It might be a good idea to include a step stool in the bedrooms. Overall, we absolutely LOVED our stay here and in Bar Harbor in general and I highly recommend Holbrook House.
• nancyeN4633JY (10/5): - This is a fabulous place to stay in Bar Harbor, Maine. The B&B is within walking distance to the Harbor, Restaurants, Shopping and even the grocery store. The owners are wonderful folks and breakfast is amazing! Our room was very clean and if you needed anything extra it was promptly delivered to your room. Their property is beautiful with amazing flowers and plants everywhere. Very relaxing to just sit on the porch or outside in the gardens and perhaps read a good book. It is very quiet at night also. We would definitely stay here again if we go back to Bar Harbor!

Would definitely recommend Holbrook house to anyone that is planning on visiting Bar Harbor.

The room has a 6 inch difference from one side to the other, so the bed slopes bad and you feel like you are going to roll out. For 430 you can have a much more pleasant experience elsewhere. They could have disclosed this up front so we could have made our own decision.

When you sleep in the bed, you feel like you are going to roll out. They could have disclosed this up front and gave us the opportunity to make our own decision. I have pictures of both.

• DeborahS638 (10/5): Hidden Gem in Holbrook House! - My husband and I recently stayed at Holbrook House in Bar Harbor, Maine while hiking in Acadia National Park. It was wonderful! The accommodations were so nice, the architecture of the was house beautiful and inviting. The location was ideal.The morning breakfasts were top shelf! So delicious and creative. Erik and Michelle have a lovely place to stay. We will definitely stay here again when we return.
• MartyB719 (10/5): A Few Tips About the Holbrook House - A classic B&B close to downtown Bar Harbor. This 13 room Inn is located along the main avenue, Desert Street. There is a 10–15-minute walk to the famous Village Green. Michelle and Eric have own Holbrooke for 14 years. We met a couple who has visited annually this Inn for the same amount of time. It is a well operated, organized, clean and friendly Inn. This 2024 visit was our second time to this Inn. The key is to go-on-line and pick your room. We had chosen room #11, “Compass Rose,” as it has a king size bed, has a walk-in shower, AC and a small balcony. The room, though, is on the second floor and would not be good for those that have mobility issues. There are rooms on the first floor too. The highlight of the Inn is the breakfast. What we thought was good for 2023, was even better in 2024. There are 2 seating’s: one for 8:00am and the other 9:00. You can also opt for a take-out breakfast for those that want to go out earlier. You do get several choices for each day. A clip-board is placed on a table for selections for the following day. Eric brings out a small bowl of fresh fruit to start the breakfast. For our 7 days we had Frittata, pancakes, French-Toast and gourmet styled eggs. There was always some type of meat like country-ham, bacon or a good size sausage. Everything was delicious. As for alternatives, there is choices like a good size salad with eggs; and home-style oatmeal. Coffee (and decaf) was provided with fruit juices. In the afternoon, there were home-made snacks like freshly baked cookies and various cakes with fruit inside. Parking is either in the front of the house or in back. If you do park in front, there are times of the day in which the road along Desert Street is awfully busy. My wife did not like the smaller TV in the room. She also complained about the Roku remote control. But she loved the soft pillows though. On our second visit to Bar Harbor, we made it to Jordan Pond. Take the free bus located on the Village Green as parking is atrocious. On a nice day, we did take a large boat to see the Lighthouses. There is much to enjoy in Bar Harbor. • wgbach (10/5): Another Perfect Visit - Where to begin? I've lost track of how many times we've been back to Holbrook House for our annual fall visit, but I can count 5 rooms we've stayed in and I'm pretty sure we've repeated some. This year we stayed in Compass Rose; it was spacious, quiet and with multiple windows facing different directions, the natural light was always just right. The shower spa is awesome, so much so that we're figuring out how to install one at home. Eric is continually making improvements and it's apparent in so many details. What drew us here in the first place was the breakfast. As vegans, a bed and breakfast often means a bagel and black coffee; not so at Holbrook House. Michelle comes up with something wonderful every day - sometimes a vegan variant of the regular menu, and sometimes a dish done specially for us. Always fabulous, and always enough to send us on even the longest hikes without much concern about lunch. From the cozy living room and parlor, to the rockers on the porch, to the beautiful garden, everything is just right. We'll be booking our next visit as soon as next year's calendar opens.

It was our 3 time here, it is the perfect place to be, Michelle and Eric and there staff are wonderful, from the moment you arrive, they take care of you. The rooms are beautiful, spacious and extremely clean. The Holbrook B&B is in the middle of every thing, green village park and the Bar Harbor central town just a few minutes away. PS: don't miss the breakfast in the morning, they're extremely delicious.

The Shower had a spa like faucet with the best water pressure! The bed and pillows were super comfy. Would definitely stay here again. From a hearty,delicious breakfast to the most comfortable bed, it was on point. I loved the rocking chairs on the front porch as well as the fresh baked goods that were replenished daily. The proximity to all the activities in Bar Harbor was perfect for us! I hated to leave this beautiful Inn.

We had a cooked breakfast on the veranda every morning which always very tasty. You order it the night before and there were 4 different options to choose from.
• B2716CIbobc (10/5): Holbrook House, the Real Deal - Authentic Bar Harbor Maine bed and breakfast inns are slowly disappearing. Many have been bought up by corporate or large developer entities. They are fine places to stay but you tend to miss that personal touch you expect. This is absolutely not true of the Holbrook House. It is the real deal. Run by on-sight owners, Eric and Michelle, it remains true to what a B and B should be. They have owned and cared for it for fourteen years. Each year they have poured money into renovating and improving the inn. Plus Michelle plans the menu, cooks the gourmet breakfast every day and Eric is the server. They are super friendly and helpful offering their guests advice on what to do and where to go. Each afternoon cookies and snacks are available. The rooms are super clean appropriately decorated. Their huge front porch and breakfast room are both great public spaces to meet and visit with other guests. All of this makes it a true B and B experience. If that’s what you are looking for then you should check out Holbrook House. But, decide and book early because they fill up quickly. Check out their website.

This bed and breakfast is close enough to stroll downtown and quick access to Acadia. The housekeeping was tremendous. Everything was so clean. The hospitality was exceptional. The rooms were modern and fresh in appearance. I will absolutely be staying here again. Would highly recommend.

We stayed in the Ash Cottage and found it to be very comfortable and quiet. It was plenty of room for 3 of us. The bed and pillows were top quality and we slept like rocks after a full day of exploring Acadia and Bar Harbor. The grounds are beautiful and we loved all of the perennial beds in full bloom. A delicious breakfast that varied daily was served on a glass porch overlooking the gardens and lawn. One afternoon we relaxed on the rocking chair front porch. Restaurants, shops and the harbor are only about a 10 minute walk away. I would highly recommend!
• terrymZ7515YX (10/5): A Wonderful Bar Harbor B&B - Michelle and Eric Allvin are the innkeepers at the Holbrook House in Bar Harbor and it's a lovely B&B run by true proprietors (not the corporate types). The rooms are well appointed and the personal service excellent, several creative breakfast choices provided each morning, snacks and candy treats out for anytime you need a quick shot of energy. The Holbrook House is just a short walk down Mt. Desert Street to Main Street and the shops and bayfront park. Acadia National Park's entrance is a short drive up the road. And if you're weary from a day's activities, you can relax on the Holbrook House's adjacent lawn. The Holbrook House is in tune with Bar Harbor's soul.
• AustinnBoston (10/5): Short getaway - We chose the Holbrook House because of the location and TripAdvisor ratings. Conveniently located a short walking distance to downtown Bar Harbor. The House has a big porch, comfy living rooms, beautiful grounds, plenty of parking and exceptional breakfast. We stayed in the Garden room. It was very clean, bed was comfortable, good size mini-fridge and cottage feel. No tv in room but not an issue for us. Michelle and Eric are super nice and helped us with restaurant choices. Of particular note, the breakfast options were all delicious and were a perfect start to our day.

We stayed in Ash cottage which is charming. The breakfasts were fantastic always a real treat....as was the afternoon snack. Michelle and Eric always were available and took time to answer all questions. My husband left a couple of shirts behind and Eric mailed them that day. They were home as soon as we were. That is certainly a very caring person. We shall stay at Holbrook on any future trips to Bar Harbor.

Prior to our stay we were concerned about the impact of Tropical Storm Lee on Bar Harbor, and on the Holbrook House, in particular. Eric, the owner, calmly and patiently answered all my questions the 2 times I called ahead of our stay. We arrived after hours, and the after hours check in process as it was outlined on their website went flawlessly. The room we had booked, The Blue Ribbon Room, was quite charming, with its vintage furniture. But the best part were the breakfasts! They were all very delicious, healthy, and filling. I had never taken pictures of food before, but I did here because the presentation of each breakfast was as terrific as the food was wonderful. Eric and Michelle were always very helpful with their suggestions about what to do in Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park, and gave helpful hints about how to navigate the park. I would wholeheartedly recommend the Holbrook House as a place to stay in Bar Harbor!

Although on the main road to Bar Harbor proper, it was quiet yet easily accessible via a 10-min walk to shops, restaurants, and the shore walk. Adjacent to Acadia Natl Park, this is also a great base from which to explore all the park has to offer. Our room was clean, if basic (i.e., no tv or other hotel-like amenities), but we did not miss anything. The outstanding feature was the breakfast--first rate in every way and so filling/nourishing that we could skip lunch. Highly recommend for a 2-3 day stay.

The B&B is clean and comfortable, and it has a lovely porch and backyard if you want to spend a little time relaxing outdoors. The hosts are warm and welcoming and have great suggestions for dining throughout Bar Harbor (our two best meals were Eric’s recommendations). My partner and I wanted to spend long days hiking in the park, and we greatly appreciated the takeaway breakfast options—they were delicious and incredibly convenient for us. Based on the quality of the takeaway breakfast and the lovely treats they set out in the afternoon, I have no doubt that the full breakfast is amazing! The inn is just a short walk from the main Bar Harbor area, which means you get a little reprieve from the noise while still having access to all the restaurants and shops. We couldn’t have asked for more, and we’d absolutely stay here again if we return!

The location is perfect, easily walking distance to the main square, the coast, grocery stores, etc. Parking is right in front of the property so that's not an issue. A fairly gourmet breakfast (and VERY tasty) is served daily along with fresh jucies and coffee. There is always an option for an alternative breakfast if you dont like or dont have time for the main entree. On thing to note, and it's totally preference, but there are no TVs here. There is very good wifi so you can watch from your device. Also, the rooms are somewhat small, but not in a bad way, but remember that you are staying in a 1860s era cottage. That said, it's very clean, great water pressure and QUIET. I love kids, but it's very nice that this property doesn't allow children. I'd highly recommend this property to those looking for something in this area.

The main part of the house can be accessed at anytime, where coffee, wine glasses, etc.are always available. Eric was helpful and treated us very well. The gardens are beautiful. This is a first class property. Sorry we only had two nights.

The only "drawback" was there is no TV in the room but that ended up being a benefit since we were there to decompress and relax. It was my wife's first time being at a B&B & she really enjoyed it. Homemade baked goods were available daily in individually wrapped packaging. We liked that there was a to-go breakfast options so we could get to the trails earlier. Our room was exceptionally clean and the innkeepers were friendly and available whenever needed.
• Ryan L. (10/5): Bar Harbor - This is a nice BnB. Its location is walking distance to Bar Harbor commercial area and far enough away to avoid congestion and traffic. The room (Robin's Nest) was small and cozy. It lacked a TV, mini-fridge, and microwave, but these are not necessities to a BnB room. The mask enforcement was pretty strict, which makes little sense if you think about it. Walking from your room to get a cup of coffee or snack in the sun room, you must wear a mask. But if you sit down to sip your coffee in the sun room, you can take it off. It's just like restaurants where you have to put your mask on just to go to the restroom. Is the risk any greater to people you walk past, as opposed to the people at a table six feet away? Dumb. Maine state health rules are over the top, unfriendly to distant visitors and are a legally unconstitutional restriction on interstate travel. How is it that New Yorkers are safe to enter the state and Arizonans are not? Everyone knows New Yorkers are brash, uncareful, and their COVID numbers prove it. Yet they can waltz right into Maine and spread disease, no questions asked. This BnB enforced the rules much too strictly to be a warm, inviting environment. Businesses don't have to buy into the paranoia and illegal gubernatorial mandates. A business owner with guts should stand up to Gov. Mills' tyranny. She cost Bar Harbor businesses a fortune in revenue in the late spring and early summer. She should be thrown out of office and businesses should sue the state for lost profits. Anyway, none of that will matter when the stupid pandemic is over. Would definitely stay here again.
