• EMMANOUIL (5/5): - Τα δωμάτια έχουν παράθυρα που βλέπουν στο Γάγγη. Παρέχουν διπλά κρεβάτια. Το κεντρικό σαλόνι είναι ψηλό και μεγάλο. Το προσωπικό ευγενικό. Η υγρασία είναι ανυπόφορη, οριακά δεν μπορείς να ανασάνεις. Ο δρόμος προς το ξενοδοχείο θυμίζει εμπόλεμη ζώνη, όπως και όλο το Βαρανάσι βέβαια. Μας έβαλαν στο ισόγειο χωρίς να μας ρωτήσουν. Τα μπάνια είναι σε κακή κατάσταση. Το πρωϊνό άθλιο και σερβίρεται σε άλλο κτίριο. Εκτός αυτού για τα δεδομένα της Ινδίας το κατάλυμα είναι σίγουρα ακριβό. Δεν θα έμενα ξανά εδώ με τίποτα.
• Oliver (3/5): Wenn man wenig erwartet, ok. - Die ganzen Bewertungen auf Booking scheinen erfunden oder für ein anderes Hotel geschrieben worden zu sein. Ziemlich runtergekommen aber ok sauber. Braucht dringend neue Anstriche. Varanasi ist nicht Bielefeld, klar. Und man muss sehr viele Abstriche machen. Das ist bei dem geringen Preis zu erwarten. Aber die Bewertungen sind üble Schönfärberei. Runtergekommen, wenig liebevoll. Aber super Lage und sicher.
• Chris (10/5): Amazing hotel in Varanasi - Incredible location, just minutes from the ghatts. Set inside the old town you have to navigate the incredible maze of alleys to the hotel. Once there, you’re in a little oasis of calm and quiet. Our room has a balcony which overlooked the Ganges - just stunning! The room was perfect. Comfortable, hot water, drinking water. The staff were lovely and so helpful with all our questions about Varanasi, and helped organised a private boat trip for us.

• Stephanie (1/5): Katastrophe, nicht wie auf Booking beschrieben! - Nur der Blick auf den Ganges. Das Hotel hat den Namen „Palace“ nicht verdient. Die Zimmer sind heruntergekommen. Die Wandverkleidung beult und löst sich, das Furnier blättert, Fliesen sind kaputt, Fugen schimmelig, Vorhänge fleckig. Die Türen sind voller fettiger Fingerabdrücke, ebenso das Betthinterteil von fettigen Köpfen. Das Hotel hat kein Restaurant wie auf Booking beschrieben. Im Foyer lag überall Zeug rum. Zum Frühstück musste ma in ein anderes Hotel gehen. Der Frühstücksraum glich einer Kantine mit langen Tischen. Laut Booking hatte ich ein Zimmer mit Balkon gebucht, bekam aber eines mit Fenster und einem Gemeinschaftsraum mit Fenstern. Nach Reklamation konnte ich erst nach 2 Tagen wechseln. Alles ist sehr lieblos und ich hatte den Anschein, man legt überhaupt keinen Wert auf Gäste. Schade!!
• Mayur Carsane (10/5): Excellent Stay in a Perfect Location - Really good overall experience. The location is amazing—very close to all the main areas anyone would want to visit. The staff are excellent, very attentive to details and always helpful. The rooms are well equipped and comfortable. The highlight is the great river view with a shared balcony (with AC), perfect for enjoying sunrise and sunset. Airport transfer and laundry services are also available, which made the stay even more convenient. Many good tourist spots and facilities are nearby, especially close to the main ghats. No major issues during the stay.

• Martin (8/5): - The view of the Ganges from our balcony. After traveling India for a month on a budget conscious itinerary, Sri Okmar Palace stands out amongst the many other hotels. There's a mini fridge in the room, the A/C blows cold air, there was always hot water, and above all was the constant attention from the staff. We stayed in one of their larger suires upstairs. They arranged to have us picked up at the airport, and porters helped carry our bags down the labyrinth of impossible alleyways to reach the hotel. The bathroom could use some updates.

Hotel ideale per chi vuole fare una esperienza indiana ma non troppo estrema. Fantastica la camminata di 10 min negli stretti vicoli che portano all hotel dalla strada principale. Il servizio è essenziale ma funziona bene. Ringrazio Sanjay che alla reception ha organizzato in pochi minuti il taxy e 3 persone per portare le valigie. È difficile dire cosa non mi è piaciuto perche l hotel va contestualizzato con la città di Varanasi, la pulizia era buona ma per chi cerca la perfezione forse non deve nemmeno prendere in considerazione la città come meta Inoltre a varanasi ci vado da molti anni ed ho imparato che i prezzi degli hotel vicino al fiume costano mediamente molto.di piu che in altre aree secondo me legate alla manutenzione annuale dovuta alla stagione delle piogge e alle difficoltà logistiche di approvvigionamento. Ultima nota: il letto per me era troppo duro.

• Orsolina Franca (4/5): Da evitare - La vista sul Gange è notevole benché avvenga da una terrazza non privata ma comune ad altre camere, sporca, infestata dalle scimmie e pertanto non utilizzabile. La struttura è sporca e maltenuta. Intonaci scrostati e sporchi, tappezzeria scollata, rivestimenti dei divani sporchi, puzza di muffa, lampade non funzionanti, arredi demoliti, asciugamani puzzolenti color più’ grigio che bianco, Wi-Fi mal funzionante ,personale che dorme già alle 9 di sera sui divani della hall. In ogni angolo oggetti di servizio ammassati qua e là. Le foto pubblicate della struttura e delle camere sono completamente fuorvianti. La colazione non viene servita in hotel ma nell’hotel vicino. Raggiungere la struttura dalla strada principale è un’impresa a causa del dedalo di vicoli dove ci si perde. Per fortuna dalla vicina e ripidissima scala del ghaat si può facilmente raggiungere il lungo fiume ed anche l’area delle vie principali. Rapporto qualità prezzo sballatissimo.

• Mainak Banerjee (8/5): Heritage Stay Steps from the Ganga & Kashi Vishwanath - Had a very pleasant stay here. The property has a lovely heritage feel, and the owner/manager was genuinely warm and accommodating, which made things easy from check-in to local guidance. The location is a big plus—just a 2–3 minute walk to the Ganga, and around 9–10 minutes to Kashi Vishwanath Temple, making early morning darshan very convenient. One thing to note: like much of Old Varanasi, it’s a bit of a walk from the main road (car-accessible) through narrow, winding lanes, and it’s easy to get turned around if you’re not familiar with the area. That said, the stay and location more than make up for it. Highly recommended for anyone wanting to experience the old-city charm close to the ghats.
• Markus (7/5): Wonderful stay in the Center of the Historic Quarter of Benares! - THIS TEAM IS THE BEST! You feel welcome and supported from the moment you book the room and when you leave you feel like leaving friends. Anyhow, do NOT expect a Hotel according to western standards (when booking most Hotels in India), as the standard always will be slightly lower in terms of maintenance, equipment and standards. Some guests have been dissappointed, but you should not be! Because with THIS HOTEL, expect the BEST and warm hearted and service oriented HOTEL TEAM you will ever meet! From overal communication and responsiveness (mail, phone, chat), to organizing airport pickups and boat rides, handing you a water bottle whenever you enter the hotel and taking care of any special whishes. These guys are really there for you. And, with some rooms, you have got a terrace right over the Ganges River to enjoy the sunrise or have some evening drinks! Thanks for the Time at your place, when I come back to Benares, it will be to your place! The location in the HISTORIC QUARTER (and its narrow and ancient alleys) is a bit tricky to find as you really need to memorize the way or use google maps the first times going back to the hotel. But thats NOT really NEGATIVE, thats just SOMETHING you need TO CONSIDER. On the Upside, you are in the middle of everything and never need more than a 3 minute walk to get to your destination!

• Laurence (3/5): Ville fantastique, hôtel décevant! - La possibilité d’avoir un transfert (payant) gare/hôtel et hôtel/aéroport organisé par l’hôtel. La vue depuis la terrasse. La proposition d’effectuer diverses activités sur places (payantes) ou un guide pour visiter la ville. Les photos sur Booking sont très largement trompeuses. Nous avions expressément choisi une chambre supérieure avec terrasse. Impossible d’y accéder en raison tout d’abord des singes très agressifs et ensuite à cause des travaux au-dessus de notre chambre. Des bouts de ciment tombaient sur notre terrasse !!! Et ce, sans aucun avertissement de l’hôtel. C’était non seulement extrêmement bruyant mais dangereux !! D’autre part, il y a eu une grande confusion avec le guide qui nous a été recommandé par l’hôtel. Le prix a été 10x supérieur à ce que nous avions compris. Erreur de notre part de ne pas avoir bien compris, mais ce fut le guide le plus cher que nous avons payé durant tout notre séjour en Inde ! Heureusement, celui-ci s’est révélé tout à fait bien et passionné par sa ville qu’il a à cœur de faire découvrir (shivaguidevaranasi). Le prix des transferts était très élevé également. Bref, nous ne recommandons absolument pas cet endroit, malgré un emplacement dans le vieux Varanasi très agréable.

• Felipe (8/5): Localização privilegiada - A localização é excelente, fica a poucos minutos a pé dos principais Ghats. A equipe é muito educada e prestativa. A cama é confortável, o banheiro tem água quente que funciona muito bem (fomos no inverno, dezembro/2025). A equipe prontamente nos ajudou a organizar roteiro com guia turístico e passeio de barco no Ganges. Além da proximidade com o rio e com os Ghats, o hotel fica bem perto de bons restaurantes para refeições de qualidade. O hotel precisa de reforma nos quartos. Imagino que a umidade nos quartos seja alta pela proximidade com o rio Ganges. As paredes têm mofo e estão descascando, a umidade acentua o cheiro. O hotel fica no centro da cidade, onde não permite o acesso de carros nem Tuk tuk, pois as ruas são muito estreitas. Tem uma caminhada boa a pé para chegar no hotel, mas eles oferecem ajuda para carregar as malas neste percurso (esquecemos de utilizar esse recurso). O preço poderia ser melhor, pois o valor que pagamos foi o mesmo da nossa estadia em hotel 5 estrelas em Nova Delhi.

Lo staff gentile e disponibile ha portato le valige a spalla dalla strada principale fino all'hotel tra i vicoli e viceversa. Un grazie ai ragazzi. Abbiamo soggiornato dal 26 al 29 dicembre nella suite Rudraksha, che di suite ha solo il nome! La camera è piccola, decisamente datata come il bagno. Umidità fortissima, tanto che abbiamo chiesto una stufetta. Pulizia approssimativa, dopo 2 giorni abbiamo richiesto che la camera venisse pulita e gli asciugamani cambiati. La colazione da consumarsi in camera ( il rooftop non era agibile per lavori), poca scelta e di scarsa qualità. La terrazza è in comune con le altre camere vista sul fiume, e al mattino è invasa dalle scimmie che si calano dal tetto! Il tutto al modico prezzo di 70 euro al giorno.

You definitely need the staff to collect you & your bags as it’s quite a walk from where a taxi will drop you off. It’s to narrow to get cars along the streets. You will soon get your bearings to walk about yourself. It’s about 2 minutes to the ghats. Only problem we had was the location of your room, 101, it’s the first room as you come in so you got all the noise. My partner did complain and it instantly stopped.

• Gemma (7/5): Great location with friendly staff, just needs an update - It was in a really great location, right on the Ganges, and easy to walk to all of the sights we wanted to see. Staff were friendly and accommodating, they booked us a boat trip, and also helped us get to and from the property. Our room felt a little run down and just a bit dirty in the bathroom in places. The room wasn’t cleaned at all during the stay, and by the end it felt like we’d brought in quite a lot of dirt from the streets and it just needed freshening up. The breakfast was really lovely and the staff were very welcoming, but the rooftop was a building site whilst we were there.

Das Zimmer und Badezimmer waren gross. Einfach eingerichtet und man hat alles was man braucht. Die Mitarbeiter extrem hilfsbereit. Erfüllen alle Wünschen und Organisieren auch Ausflüge. Das typische Indische frish zubereitete Frühstück mit dem Masala Chai auf der Dachterrasse war ein Highlight. Danke Sanjay und das ganze Team für den schönen Aufenthalt!
• Aditi (9/5): Hidden gem on the ghats of Benaras- worth making your way through the labyrinth of narrow lanes. - The location of this hotel is both its plus point and minus point. The location is fabulous because it is located close to the ghats, perched on a height, which ensures amazing views of the mighty river Ganga and all the activity happening in the river(boats of various types sailing by all day) and on the banks. And yet, due to the location near the ghats, the hotel can only be reached on foot after navigating the (in)famous galis of Benaras- narrow lanes where you have to share the passing space with two-wheelers, majestic bulls, dogs, goats and people, whilst carefully scanning the ground, since you might inadvertently step on cowpats or worse. However, those 15 minutes of careful walking pay a rich reward when you finally get to the hotel and behold the Ganga in all her glory from your room window/ terrace on top of the hotel. The rooms are adequate, with all basic requirements fulfilled, including toiletries, tea/coffee making facilities, fridge(not all rooms), hairdryer, hot water at all times. The restaurant on the terrace is a great bonus- fab views, great staff, including the very skilled cook- the menu is reasonably diverse, and everything we tried was fresh, tasty and nicely presented. The included breakfast was delicious, too, with continental and Indian breakfast provided as a buffet. All the staff are very helpful- Shashank and Sanjay at the front desk, along with Neeraj, efficiently arranged transfers from the railway station, to the airport, sunset boat rides, provided information about when to visit the temples. The rooms are not kept in great condition- some of the light switches are not connected to lights, a few lights do not work. the paintwork on doors, plaster on walls is a bit unkempt- but none of this detracted from my stay. Its just something that could be easily improved on, to justify the 3-4 star label. The stairs to the restaurant on the terrace are quite steep, not very suitable for the elderly or people with restricted mobility.

• Ishita (10/5): I cannot wait to return❤️ - Omkar Palace is a fantastic heritage hotel right on the ghats on Ganga, offering beautiful views and a comfortable stay. I stayed with them for 3 weeks in November and the staff made sure I was nothing but comfortable. It was blissful waking up to the sunrise over the Ganga and sound of temple bells. The food was delicious and freshly prepared on request. The staff made sure they assisted me whenever they could, especially Hanuman Ji and Neeraj Ji. I sincerely thank each and every one at Omkar palace for making my stay so memorable. I will definitely book with them again when in Varanasi. The only downside would be the Wi-Fi situation. It is not as strong as it should be in river facing rooms. Also the monkeys (although adorable), make it difficult to get a stable Wi-Fi by damaging the wires around the hotel. Since I also remote worked while staying here, this was a bit of a struggle. But the staff was very helpful in guiding me through this.

The rooftop terrace is veri nice. Very nice boat trip with a great guide (Ghoula). The bed was very comfortable. There was a lot of noise in the patio in the evening, just a few metres from our room, caused by people talking loudly. A bit of humidity smell in the room. The room was not super clean. The photos on booking.com are not representative of the room.

• George (10/5): We all enjoyed it very much for its location and the staff. - I was right on the bank of the river Ganges, and that is why we booked it. It has a nice restaurant with a good selection of meals and snacks which they were happy to serve on the room balcony. The staff were so helpful and would do anything for you. You can’t get a taxi to the door you have to go down small lanes to get the the hotel which is an adventure in its self when you are in a wheelchair. And don’t forget the monkeys running about. Sadly the hotel is looking run down and is in need of a complete revamp to bring it back to it formal glory.

• Michelle (9/5): Great Location With Ganges View - We booked the hotel to have a more authentic experience in Varanasi than staying in a large corporate hotel. The staff and location are what make the hotel. With a roof terrace, where you can enjoy a drink/food whilst watching the boats sail along the Ganges. It had everything we needed. The staff should be mentioned too and met us at the roadside to carry our luggage and show us the way on foot (no roads to the hotel - take hand luggage only, if possible) The very kind man on reception that liaised with our tour guide and taxi driver to ensure we got where we needed to be. Everyone we encountered during our stay were super helpful and when returning to the hotel after sightseeing we were met with cold bottled water.

Bathroom had shower & toilet combined & water had to be swiped away after every use. There was water damage in bathroom. There were ants in the room. Room expensive compared to other Indian hotels.
• Katharina (8/5): Sehr freundliches Personal - Das Personal ist äußerst hilfreich und war bei vielen Wünschen sehr zuvorkommend. Es wurde eine persönliche Bootstour organisiert und ein Pick-Up/Drop von Bahnhof (900 INR) und zum Flughafen (1000 INR). Die Lage des Hotels ist sehr in der Nähe des Ganges, so dass man in ca. 10 Minuten fussläufig zum Kashi Vishwanath kommt. Bei der Anreise sollte man berücksichtigen, dass man mit Auto/Rikshaw nicht an das Hotel kommt. 5-10 Minuten zu Fuß sind nötig. Daher war der Abholservice sehr hilfreich. Auf der Dachterasse befindet sich ein Restaurant mit sehr nettem Personal und einem köstlichen Palak Paneer, sowie einem kleinem Frühstücksbüffet. Wir hatten ein günstigeres Zimmer im Vergleich zu anderen in diesem Hotel - hier ist zu beachten, dass es in diesem keine Fenster gibt
• Charikleia (8/5): Nice budget hotel in the heritage area - In the heritage are of Varanasi, so not accessible by car which can be a challenge. However, hotel provided staff that could carry your luggage to your car. Facilities were quite good. Service was excellent. Buildings in Varanasi are very old, so not really a "palace" by today's standards.

The size of the room amazing, clean with a very good food, service very helpful as all over the India. The hospitality and feeling safer then in even EU was just amazing. Not only in here but all over our Indian tour! Staff was amazing, the river view WAS OUTSTANDING, food?? AMAZING. The way the hotel arrange taxi from the airport and way back ... OUTSTANDING . everything was just perfect

Without the staff negotiating our way to the hotel on arrival would have been hard in the alleyways. The staff were friendly and no query was too much. They organised transport and even managed to get us front of house seats last minute to enjoy the Arti ceremony! The rooms could.do with bit of updating as could the roof top 'dining room', which was nothing more than a run-down shack on the foof. The ceiling was falling down and it lacked an inviting facade. The rooms did not reflect the website photos and the odd shaped bed was quite unique! However, we could not fault the food and the attentive staff.

The hotel was helpful in organizing tours, assisting us with finding a shop in the city that was not on Google Maps, calling a music venue to ask questions for us, and they carried our luggage to and from the taxi. They also responded promptly to issues with the room, and gave us plenty of water. Our room had a shared balcony overlooking the river, and was a 10 minute walk from the main street.
• Siva (9/5): Great View of Ganga. - Excellent location, beautiful view of Ganges and sun rise from the shared balcony. Very close to temple and important Ghats. Hotel is very clean but it is a very old building so you might smell some dampness occasionally. Hotel is situated near a ghat, you can reach Ganges via steps and have a holy dip. That means access to the hotel from the main road where taxi and auto drop you is only by walk. Takes about 20 minutes via a windy Gali, you could easily get lost but google is good, and we used google all the times. If you have an old person or disabled then it might be difficult but there are excellent freelance wheel chair help available, costs around rupees 300 per trip. Hotel staff are extremely helpful and friendly. Breakfast is included but we didn't have it. We ordered alacarte dinner couple of times, food was home cooked to order and excellent. Totally we stayed five nights, we thoroughly enjoyed, would definitely stay again. Access is difficult but worth it. TV and internet wasn't working due to mischievous monkeys. Good mobile reception though.

• Van Alstine (8/5): I really enjoyed my stay. The staff are serviceful, willing, always happy to assist. - My room was comfortable, on the main floor and easily accessible. Also accessible was the balcony which was wonderful to be able to use and view the Ganga. The mini split air-conditioning unit was placed right over the bed. Cold air, needed in general was uncomfortable. The vent from the mini split was directed down at the bed. I was forced to turn it off in order to avoid it causing extreme heat in the room. I turned it on and off throughout my stay.
• Charles (10/5): - Stayed two nights in the Kailash Suite, nice big room (decor feels a bit dated), good A/C. Loved the breakfast on the roof, what a view. The best feature was the large balcony. It's a shared space but only with two other rooms so if those two rooms are unoccupied you'll have it all to yourself, great place for the sunrise. Breakfast itself is simple, Indian or masala omelet with white bread, no fruit, a nice touch they give you a little thermos of coffee rather than just one cup. It rained heavily one afternoon and a good amount of water seeped into the room from the balcony doors. A couple guys came in with squeegees and took care of the problem. I'm guessing this is a recurring issue.

• Robert (8/5): - The property is more run down than photos suggest, but still comfy. I was a bit let down by the condition given the high ratings, though everything’s relative. Important: the hotel isn’t reachable by car, rickshaw, or even pedal rickshaw—you have to walk 10–15 minutes from the closest drop-off. Contact the hotel for porters; they’re essential. We visited during monsoon and didn’t realize this, so we dragged rollerbags through narrow alleys with 2” of water, cow dung, and buzzing scooters. Backpacks are much easier. GPS can be off in the alleys—using two phones or pausing until the dot jumps works. Staff was great and responsive, though one pushed tours and boats too hard. Food was good, and the location is epic—awesome Ganges view from the balcony. You don’t need a guide for the burning ghats or aarti; Google Maps gets you close enough even with a few wrong turns. Touts in Varanasi (not the hotel) are the worst I’ve seen in India. Many lie to get money—ignore them like locals do. Foreigners look like walking ATMs. Key rule: no photos at the burning ghats without family permission. You don’t need to pay or have a guide to be there. Rain leaked through the balcony doors and brought a few ants, but not a huge issue. Airport taxi via hotel was ₹1100—beat-up car, no AC. Uber was ₹945 but dropped us 800m away in the rain. Hotel porters help a lot. Recommend booking transport through the hotel but ask for a better car.

La colazione era buona, con opzione continentale e indiana. Sicuramente per raggiungere l’hotel, entri nel pieno della vita di Varanasi Ho pagato un ingente extra per avere la stanza con terrazza vista Gange. La terrazza era però inutilizzabile in quanto invasa dalle api. Il fatto che la struttura non sia raggiungibile in auto rende difficile organizzare le attività online (io ho avuto problemi con Get Your Guide). Il bagno è piccolo, senza vetro o tenda per la doccia, quindi di base ogni volta che ti lavi si allaga.
• Paul (8/5): An unusual hotel experience that helped us appreciate Varanasi and its functions for devout Hindus - This is a special place, hidden in the alleyways of old Varanasi, ten minutes walk from any road that a car can access but the hotel arranges guides who also carry luggage. Location otherwise is good, only a short walk to the ghats and a number of local facilities. We stayed 3 nights and began to know our way around the alleys. It turned out there were quite good restaurants very close, and one local hotel had a concert of classical Indian music on its open rooftop while we were there. Having been worried at the outset, being led down alleyways late at night, we came to enjoy the setting and were glad we stayed there, close to the Ghats, rather than in a more usual hotel on the edge of town. Untidy piles of laundry and bedding were left in full view of guests

• Yvette (8/5): Our second stay at this hotel. Will book again and again and again. - Our second stay at Dwivedi Hotels Sri Omkar Palace in Varanasi. The staff is super helpful and friendly and the location of the hotel is fantastic - in the old town next to the Ganges river. It is the small things that count and at this hotel, the staff really looked after us e.g giving us a small bottle of complimentary water when coming back from walking outside in the heat, booking a boat ride or to help with something. The food from their restaurant is also delicious. We ordered room service and enjoyed dinner in the big sitting room overlooking the Ganges River. We liked this hotel, it is older and lived in but you can see it is well loved.

• Jeffrey (10/5): Great Place! But Don’t Monkey Around…. - All Good at Sri Oskar Palace. Since it was not high season My Aircon no-river view was complementarily upgraded, to A Riverview room complete with a great shared balcony. They were really good at getting me from and back to the airport with the taxi service. My only issue, and it is not the fault of the hotel, was the aggressive monkeys. They would come onto the balcony and at first, be cute. I made the mistake of letting one sip some beer I poured for it on the top of the wall. It made a great Social Media post, but the next day, two monkeys joined me up on the balcony, and I didn’t have any beer!! They were not happy and acted out towards me… I Didn’t feel totally safe up there after that… Don’t give ANYTHING to the monkeys! Have breakfast away from the edge on the rooftop, because monkeys jumped on our tables and made a mess and broke glasses all over the floor…
