Guest Reviews
- Andrea (9/5): A good stay near town - The staff were very helpful and organized taxis, airport transfer, breakfast to take. Great check-in and help with luggage too! Late at night I was trying to use the PowerPoints and I had trouble, don’t know if it was me or plugs?
- lauren (4/5): Activities disaster - The staff were lovely, it was really helpful taxiing to get cash (more about this in a minute), rooms were clean and fresh, they were always happy to help
the restaurant recommendations were really good! Cash: they do make you aware before this is required but only certain banks will give you max $300USD so take it out before you arrive.
Swimming pool: it is mentioned there isn’t one but the nearest beach is about 10 min + drive away so if you want to be chilling by a pool or relaxing it’s not really ideal
Activities:
I was told before I arrived no need to pre book anything my self as the hotel can do it when we arrive.
the first day after landed the activities were all full.
I was under impression or tour for first day of arrival was booked and confirmed, then when I got up the next day it has been cancelled as activity was full and no one had said. I did ask at breakfast as the others who arrived same time as me had theres was cancelled and they said to wait and see until arrival time.
We were told there was no jelly fish in jelly fish lake and that it is not work booking to see it. People on my tour went to opted for the lake and saw hundreds of jelly fish. Others who went a different day so a loads of jelly fish too.
I struggled to get booked onto tours by front desk as they were all full. I mentioned I had spoke to one of diving companies for a snorkel and she said at front desk they won’t do it, they just to dives. I got booked onto said snorkel tour for the next day by organising myself.
On my last full day I booked a scenic flight (which had been booked by hotel the day I arrived). It was grey in the morning and raining and front desk phoned to ask if I wanted to cancel and I said no (it was my last chance to do it) and she said it had been cancelled because of the weather. I asked if any other flights rest of the day or other companies and she had tried and it was either $600USD or all full or cancelled because of weather. I contacted the company I was supposedly booked with whom had no record of me being booked on at 9am and luckily had space at 11am for me to fly.

- Christopher (8/5): Perfect place to stay, short of an expensive resort. - If you want reliable western comfort, without paying top dollar for a resort, this is the place. Perfect shower, air conditioner, and internet, and very helpful staff. Great view of the sunsets. In Palau, most of the action is on day trips and you probably shouldn't spend all day in the resort. But if you are looking for a resort for rainy days or long afternoons after your trips, don't expect a glamorous room or a beach. It's about $10 cab ride to a public park with a good beach and really excellent snorkeling by international standards.
It's within walking distance from several good restaurants. You can tell it's an older building in places. But do you really care if the hot showers, internet, and AC work perfectly?
- Huseyin (9/5): A descent/budget friendly hotel in Koror - This was my second stay after a liveaboard trip. I noticed they improved breakfast too. Nothing really.
- Huseyin (9/5): A nice stay - Spacious room and balcony l; breakfast improved against my prior visit Nothing specifically
- Huseyin (8/5): A descent city hotel - Breakfast is a bit weak compared to room comfort
- Yasmine (5/5): -
- Donna (6/5): Nice 2 days stay before liveaboard - Clean friendly staff- for the most part- front desk was a bit manic- rest of staff was extremely helpful and friendly Nice hotel in the middle of derelict properties
But once inside was nice
- Ulf (9/5): - Nice place ,Great balcony , Breakfast items changed every day. Helpful staff , helped us rent a car . Wifi ok.
- Stuart (8/5): - Flora at the front desk did an OUTSTANDING JOB supporting and helping us = A+
I enjoyed the breakfasts. View from balcony of the Bay was nice
Internet worked very well Car noise from nearby street was not enjoyable
Electrical outlets for USA plugs were difficult and some were non-functional
Walking distance to town a little long, and not ideal in the dark

- James (7/5): This was great place for the money if you just need a place to lay your head for the night. - The staff was very helpful and let us stay in the room to the last minute We missed breakfast and that was a bummer
- Maria (4/5): Wouldn't stay here again - Staff was friendly and we had a working AC and a dehumidifier unit in our room. I liked the shampoo and shower gel they provided. It was difficult to communicate with the employees because of language barriers (Chinese staff), but they did try their best. The hotel is located by the water but everything around was closed or private households. The breakfast was quite lacking and after trying it, we ended up going somewhere else - could not even vouch for their coffee. Showering was a bit annoying as there was nowhere to place the shower head near the tub and it was impossible to not get water everywhere.
- Guest (8/5): -
- Cynthia (7/5): - Very nice staff, good view from terrace, good breakfast, convenient location Stairs required to get to rooms, no pool
- Quilliec (5/5): -
- Jens Louis (10/5): -
- destaval (6/5): Just a place to spend a day waiting for your flight - Friendly staff Place needs renovating
Very Chinese and plastic
Some tiles in the room came off
Price is expensive for the quality offered
- YA HAN (10/5): - 特製早餐!可以選擇稀飯配青菜
吃不習慣西餐有稀飯真好!員工友善 其他還好
- Muzaffar (9/5): -
- Yan (10/5): - It was such mistaken when I thought I got unauthorized credit card spending in hotel. I really appreciate the staff patient and help! They provide immediately help and clarification for me. It turns out that it was not from hotel spending. Thanks a lot! And the Manger Flora is super nice and friendly!
- JenniferKasper (10/5): - A Place Where My Mind Could Finally Rest
Staying at Ocean Star Hotel was a truly healing experience. The owner gave me the rare gift of being able to fully relax – not just physically, but mentally. I’m deeply grateful to her and will carry that feeling with me for a lifetime.
The hotel has a warm and welcoming atmosphere that makes you feel at home from the very first moment. The rooms are spacious and spotlessly clean, and the staff is always helpful and kind.
Breakfast was fresh, delicious, and prepared with care – a perfect start to each day.
I can’t wait to come back. If you’re looking for a peaceful, heartfelt place to stay, Ocean Star Hotel is more than just a recommendation – it’s a must.
- Louise (5/5): - The room was quite spacious and had a lovely view of the water. Staff failed to pick up dirty, wet towels even though they dropped off the clean ones. Coffee cups were never washed. No teaspoons, milk or anything else to make a coffee! The breakfast was terrible! So little food and at first no hot food! After speaking to the manager some hot food appeared on our second morning. Very limited selection of foods to choose from!
- Anka (8/5): -
- Carolina (7/5): Overall good experience. Clean and the room was big - Clean No flexibility for check in even if the room was available
- Quentin (9/5): Hotel with helpful staff, clean, good location and view - The staff in this hotel were all exceptionally friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much for them. Grace in particular at the front desk helped with many arrangements. It is not clear why they did not have more guests as everything was good and the rooms all have a nice bay view. They have free parking right at the hotel. And the hotel pricing is fair. I looked at he other top end hotels in the town and one were quite a bit pricier. the other about the same. The breakfast is the only thing I thing that could be improved as it was a little sparse for a 4 star hotel. I understand that there were few guests staying and they likely didn't want to waste food. When they heard I was vegetarian, however, they immediately adapted the menu which was nice of them.
- Lincy (6/5): Pleasant - clean and friendly staff. location not great breakfast was under average.
- Minor (8/5): Content and happy with my choice - Quiet great view of T-dock cove. Bathroom was clean and worked great. Amenities include toothbrush/toothpaste. Soap, shampoo and conditioner. Comb and super quiet vortex dryer with cold button was great. Low water pressure on hot water. Bathroom had wall of glass see through window. Why?
The bath/shower has no seal so showering splashes water all over the floor.
- Kaye (10/5): Very quiet and comfortable. Staff were lovely and very helpful. Looked ordinary from outside but nice inside. Would choo - Room was very neat and clean with plenty of space. Recently refurbished so quite modern. It was a bit out of town - not too far but it kept the noise down. Nice outlook over the water. Breakfast varied - not hot. But on 1 day it was great.
- David (10/5): Exceptional - Clean and comfortable - everything worked - feels very Chinese
- Zachary (9/5): Superb - Comfortable room. Friendly and helpful staff
- Michelle (9/5): Great hotel, would stay again - Hotel is clean, the beds are firm, breakfast wwas a good spread of Chinese and western choices. Enjoyed the bath tub in my room and had great water views. Would have been nice to have English channels on TV. There's a nice spot to watch the sunrise and sunset at the end of the road, but there are some scary barking dogs you have to pass.
- Minh (10/5): A nice stay in paradise - Walking distance to town centre, spacious room, staffs are very friendly and helpful None
- Andrea (8/5): Lovely room in a lovely country - The views from our room was amazing, and the room was clean and tidy. The front desk staff were very helpful, and I loved that they encouraged us to refill our water bottles — and provided the water jugs to do so.
- Iva (4/5): Disappointing -
- Kaj (9/5): Superb -
- Ivanromeo (9/5): Worth for few days. - All the Guys of reception were kindly, helpful and polite. A special mention for Miss Flora and Mr Christian ! Very kind and available the staff of the rooms, gave us all the items we need more ( chair and pillows ).
Good room face to the sea. Free parking. The breakfast. Poor. Always the same food.2 days we were alone and no breakfast served. Only few things we asked. No sweeties.
Absolutely to improve !!!
Unfortunately no lift ! Only stairs !
- Miyaw (7/5): Good -
- Gabriele (7/5): Good - Size of the room. Quiet location. No coffee/tea in the room
Breakfast would have been tasty if it had been hot.
- Carol (9/5): We had a nice stay at the Ocean Star! - The staff was outstanding and the premises very clean. The water view was very pleasant. We had a little mishap with the bathroom door lock, but it was addressed and fixed very quickly.
- Mark (7/5): Good -
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was excellent Neighborhood dogs should be controlled better.
- David (8/5): A good base for visiting Palau. - Very friendly staff. Clean rooms. Location allowed walking to town. Neighborhood more local than touristy and we felt safe.
- Zane (6/5): Comfortable room, passable facilities. - Despite the other previous reviews we were surprised at how close this hotel was to the Main Street. We also didn’t experience any issues with the dogs around the area. We could park our car at the hotel and the beds and AC were great quality. The biggest issue was the shower. It was a bath with a hand held shower but if you put it in the holder the entire bathroom would fill with water. It created a mess each night we had to shower. The breakfast is forgettable however we do understand it may not be easy or cost-effective to source a wide range of breakfast items.
The coffee and iced tea was great. A little more fruit would be appreciate.
A few minor issues with the wifi but it did keep us connected for a majority of our stay (barring one night).
- Sb (10/5): The hotel is nice and we enjoy our stay at the hotel very much. - The room is spacious and clean. The balcony is huge with nice seaview. The restaurant has very good seaview and the breakfast is good. The staffs are helpful.
- Eveline (7/5): Good - The room is extremly clean, and the staff went above and beyond to help with anything we needed. The wifi is not great, the description of the hotel facilities are interesting as we couldn‘t find the garden, and the bar is basically the breakfast room.
- Majky (9/5): super, recommended - ok
- Caroline (8/5): Good value for large room with helpful staff - Size of room. Employees. Many people at the front desk didn’t speak English and it was hard to communicate.
- Rosslyn (4/5): disappointment when the operator hung up on me. - nothing It said it was close to the airport and it was 30min away with a taxi which I had to pay when it was advertised as a shuttle.
- Lee (8/5): Very good -
- Lisa (4/5): Stay somewhere else. - Clean. First day no hot water in the morning shower. Complained about it and was told the “sun wasn’t big enough “ meaning it’s solar heated so you aren’t getting a hot shower in the morning. After we complained there was more hot water so obviously they have a powered heating system they were just trying to save money and not turn it on.
The toilet makes a godawful noise when you flush it. Roosters crowed all night every night keeping us awake. Breakfast is mediocre at best. Stay elsewhere is my recommendation.
- John (6/5): - It's a nice place. It's all white and the staff was very friendly and helpful. It's by the water which made it very pleasant. The room was very large and the bathroom was modern and very large as well. The food was good, exotic of course and I liked it. However, the bed was a little too firm for me and the television stations were all Japanese. Also, one of the neighbors had a rooster. Besides that, it was good hotel.
- Tahnee (2/5): Hotel in poor condition - Some staff were lovely, others were unhelpful. The location was central. This hotel is in far worse condition than it appears online. The lobby smells of mould, we had no hot water for multiple showers, the toilet is in the shower and there was black mould in the bathroom, lights were flickering and the buffet breakfast was served cold and dry.
- Sunny (9/5): Superb -
- Stefan (7/5): Good - Nice rooms with Balkony. 10 min by foot to restaurants. Breakfast was not very diverse and dishes were not refilled.
- Kaj (7/5): Okay but rather expensive hotel but everything is expensive in Palau. The room was very clean but didn’t have much charm - The location by the sea The lighting in the room was “sterile”
- Mr. (7/5): Good - The staff were really friendly. The location is OK. About 15 minutes to the town center. Pictures were better than the rooms in reality. The place is slightly outdated. Altogether, it is quite expensive for what you get.
- Yu (8/5): Very good - Good location. The staff are all nice and helpful. The room is clean and large. There's no AC at restaurant. A liitle bit hot at breakfast place.
- Barbarae (6/5): Clean 3 * max, nice size rooms but not much more - We paid extra for seaview but it wasn’t apparent that there would be the parking lot in front. In general everyone was friendly, especially the guys at night shift. Room had a good size but again booked deluxe. The massage treatments offered are excellent. The terrace was huge but no table. We thought it was absolutely ok but not luxurious at all. 4 stars are not the right rating. 3 * at the most. Misleading. Banged up furniture - not all but quite a few not repaired damages. No toilet paper when we arrived, went to buy some at the store 80 yards away. Breakfast: a plate prepared ahead and standing at the counter until you arrive - Chinese cook - no choices see pic. It is not sustainable because you cannot even communicate that you want less. Coffee: no regular milk available. breakfast in a not airconditioned area - no coffee after 9 am available. No international calls possible from the reception not even to the US. That is last century standard. Note: no elevator.
- Radu (9/5): Great room/bed and location, basic breakfast, a little far from center but very quiet, - Location is nice on the border of the ocean, a little remote but only 10-15 min walk to the center. Dogs mentioned by some are no issue very relaxed no threat, Breakfast could be more varied
- Chin (9/5): Superb -
- George (10/5): Exceptional -
- Siew (8/5): Very good -
- Steve (2/5): Would not stay here again. - Beds were comfortable and the room was clean. This is not a hotel, it’s an apartment block with a front desk. The breakfast is very poor, no juice, no milk, expect you to have powder milk despite asking for real milk. Same stuff everyday. No bacon or anything fresh. Food cooked before 6:30 and the same is still there at 7:30. Never see anything changed.
- Lilly (10/5): - 4 stars ★★★★. Hoped there was laundromat available at our hotel. But other than that, they provided everything we asked for. Love the free breakfast. Cool staff and customer service. Sulang!
- Iching (9/5): It’s a wonderful hotel with eager staff and a great sea view. - The bread-fast was really great. We stayed there for five nights and the chef tried to change up some of the dishes so we wont be eating the same thing everyday. The service is also great. The staff was eager to assist and accommodate our needs. The view of the sea is also really great. It’s a bit father away from the dock if you are going to snorkeling. If you don’t or cannot walk a few hundred meters, you’ll need taxi every time you go out of the hotel. The public area in second and third floor is not air-conditioned. During our stay, it’s hot to walk in the hallway or dine in the hotel’s restaurant.
- Alexandra (5/5): Passable -
- Peter (8/5): A Chinese hotel at the outskirts of Koror with fantastic sunset views but disappointing restaurant - Big, newly renovated room with comfortable bed. Due to the ongoing renovation works I was upgraded to a Deluxe room with gorgeous views of the sunset from the big balcony. The reception staff was very welcoming, friendly and efficient, they can also help with car rental, laundry, booking of tours and dinners, and organize transfers to and from the airport with the hotel bus (20 USD). Noisy renovation works ongoing, but should be finished soon. Only Chinese TV programs. Not much infrastructure around the hotel.
The biggest setback however is the breakfast: A few (all cold!) Chinese dishes that are absolutely incompatible with Western palates. I bought my own muesli, milk, yoghurt and cheese for breakfast. Also tried a pizza for dinner and was very disappointed.
- Grant (7/5): Good -
- Andre (7/5): Good Value for Money in a place with not many options - This Chinese hotel was better value for money than most options in Palau. Laundry was cheap and good - which was a plus. They arranged all taxi transfers Bit of a walk (15min) to town area - which can be a bit scary given the menacing dogs roaming free. Take a USD5 taxi, it is safer.
- Yi (9/5): Superb - The staffs are very nice and the room is good.
- Ames (8/5): The staff was kind and professional. The breakfast was adequate and on time. The room was spacious and clean. Overall a - It was spacious and kept clean. There seemed to be several things in need of repair. Several rooms were open to expose supplies from floor to ceiling. A railing from second to third floor is for looks only and cannot be trusted for balancing a person.
- Man (2/5): Very poor -
- Korhonen (9/5): Would stay again - The balcony is huge and the view is magnificent. The staff is also very friendly. Possible to rent a car with a short notice for a good price. Good Wi-Fi. Walking distance to shops and restaurants. The breakfast is very basic. The air con could be a bit more efficient.
- Adele (4/5): Hotel was a disappointment - Good location for sunsets
Large shower recess
Reception staff helpful
Clean rooms in general Mouldy shower mat
TV only had Chinese stations, no pay channels to cater for all guests
No lift, just stairs
Smelly drains making the rooms smell
Small water bottle provided, needing to have to attend reception each time it needed refilling
Kettle in room but no tea/coffee - why is the kettle there?
Breakfast very simple offering, purported to be on a terrace - more like a closed in room with windows all around. No atmosphere.
Power voltage/socket different to Palau - had to borrow adaptor from hotel
Plant in room needs to be refreshed.
- Mansoor (8/5): Very good experience. - Staff and service were great. Especially, Christian who was super friendly and helpful. I also liked the amenities given in the bathroom. WiFi was very good. Although staff at the breakfast were very nice, I wish there was more variety of food to choose from. Also, I requested a shuttle service from the airport, but didn’t receive a reply.
- Stuart (9/5): Superb -
- Daniela (8/5): Very good -
- Douglas (9/5): Would absolutely stay here again! - Great staff! Great location. Spotless. Nice breakfast. And did I mention the great staff?! They were super helpful! Air conditioner in the room could use a little more heft and as noted in an earlier review, the rain shower head in the bathroom shower seems to be for decoration only (doesn't work at all -the diverter valve is rusted in position and can't move)
- Anita (8/5): Very good -
- Christoph (7/5): Next time only wirh ocean view and balcony room again or hotel more central - We had the best room class and we enjoyed it ver much. Spacious and ocean view 10 min walk to city center
- Yosef (7/5): Disappointing - Room was large with a nice balcony. Never had hot water in the morning. Every time different excuse.
Stuff English is really bed.
Hotel is in rather run down condition.
Wifi sometimes does not work.
15 minutes walk to the center.
Really poor breakfast.
Everything extra like laundry of airport pickup, they kind of chase you to pay immediately in cash rather then settle your bill at checkout as in any normal place.
- Chaein (10/5): satisfaction beyond the price - kind staff(They provide services to ensure that I am satisfied with the requirements with smile)
They clean every day.
They’re trying to reduce plastics, it’s so impressive.
If you’re vegetarian, you can have some fruit, salads, stir fried vegetables(different everyday) and rice porridge. There was a smell of smoke because you can smoke on the balcony.
- Chaein (10/5): More pleasant trip memories thanks to the hotel staff. - They use Chinese but there is no inconvenience because they speak English well. On the last day, after finishing the jellyfish tour, we had to go to the airport, they provided a space for us to shower. There is no shower curtain in the bathtub, so sometimes the bathroom floor gets wet.
- Idonya (10/5): AA++ I had an excellent stay and will recommend this hotel to friends. - Hotel Had a great view and my room had a balcony. Had a short but excellent stay at Ocean Hotel. It was nice to be able to sit out and enjoy the morning. Nothing bad to say about this hotel.
- Vincent (8/5): Very good -
- Somchai (9/5): Superb -
- Tamás (9/5): Superb - Friendly and helpful staff, good location, walking distance from Koror's city center, clean rooms, delicious breakfast.
- Konstantin (10/5): Comfortable and straightforward place to stay in the city - My stay at the Ocean Star Hotel in downtown Koror, close to the T-Dock, was a notably comfortable experience. The standout feature of the hotel was its exceptionally clean and modern rooms. I found the attention to cleanliness and the contemporary design of the rooms to be very welcoming and conducive to a relaxing stay.
The staff at the hotel were particularly commendable for their friendliness and attentiveness. Their approach to service was warm and accommodating, which greatly enhanced the overall atmosphere of my visit. Every request was met with a smile and prompt assistance, making my stay smooth and enjoyable.
The hotel offers breakfast, which I found to be quite satisfying. The quality of the food was good, providing a pleasant start to each day. It was a enjoyable meal that catered well to the start of a busy day exploring Koror.
The location of the hotel is ideal for those looking to be in the heart of the city and near the T-Dock. It serves as a convenient base for various activities and exploring the local area. The proximity to key attractions and ease of access to day trips around Koror was a significant advantage.
In summary, the Ocean Star Hotel provided a good stay with its clean, modern rooms and excellent service. The breakfast was a nice addition to the mornings, and the central location made it easy to enjoy the best of Koror. This hotel is a suitable option for travelers looking for a comfortable and straightforward place to stay in the city.
