Guest Reviews
- darren (10/5): Had a lovely stay, would definitely use again if we return to the Island - The breakfasts were excellent with plenty to choose from. ( personally I would have liked a bit larger Albert breakfast but then perhaps I am just greedy!)
We didn’t eat in the restaurant but the hotel was perfectly situated for some cracking local pubs. Can’t think of anything
- Chapman (8/5): Very pleasant…good for a short break…pity about the rest of East Cowes..! - Steeped in history and nicely secluded Shower and bath need a little maintenance
- Jonathan (10/5): - Breakfast was excellent, room really comfortable.
- John (10/5): Excellent with a touch of luxury - The period charm and the people
- Sharron (10/5): -
- WessexWiltshire (10/5): Albert Cottage Hotel - Easy to find as just up the road from East Cowes ferry terminal. The staff were welcoming and helpful. The room was beautifully decorated a nice size, and had plenty of storage for clothes. The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere and has an adjacent bar with the option of seating outside in better weather. The menu is not extensive, but still gives plenty of choice with the addition of any special dishes. The food was beautifully cooked and presented. Breakfast catered for all tastes and is served in the main part of the hotel. The hotel staff are very proud of its history with its connection to Queen Victoria and her consort Albert. Each room is individually decorated with modern conveniences.
- callummW4895YD (10/5): Delightful bank holiday stay - I want to say thank you to the Albert Cottage team for making me and my partners stay at the boutique hotel such a pleasure. We stayed for a mini-break over the bank holiday weekend in April. The room was spacious in a very traditional style. The bar downstairs is a delightful space for a drink before dinner. The hotel had organised music for the evening which was a nice touch. We enjoyed a two course meal inside the onsite restaurant. The scotch egg and 8oz steak with stilton sauce comes recommended. The nights sleep was comfortable (a tad warm) with a sensational breakfast in the morning. If you are looking for something a bit special, I would recommend a stay here.
- Daniel (9/5): -
- Allan (10/5): - Very friendly service and the breakfast was enormous!
- Josie (7/5): 20th anniversary celebration didn't live up to our expectations - Breakfast was a limited choice, always stay in 4 stars but various options not.on the menu & dinner wasn't value for money either Room looked tired & needed refreshing, one chair was absolutely thread bare & wooden chair look tatty & not in keeping with the rest of the room, also shower gel was not replenished had to get from reception
- bumps94 (10/5): FANTASTIC SHORT BREAK - We booked a 2 night stay with Travelzoo and were delighted. Lovely hotel well run by Chris and his staff were all delightful. 2 cocktails with delicious canapés on our first night and a fabulous 7 course tasting menu with good quality paired wines for each course. Don’t let your chef go anywhere !!! Our room (4) was large and comfortable but would be improved by some shelves or storage in the bathroom. I do suggest that the owner gets a report soon on the original roof which looks overdue for replacement.
- Peter (7/5): Ranging not up to standard to excellent. - Its location, the food and especially the staff was exceptional The decor and the maintenance.
- Petrosina2014 (6/5): Delicious meat but the rest was disappointing - We went for a Mother’s Day lunch , portions were good, the meat and Yorkshire pudding was perfectly cooked and delicious. However, the roast potatoes and vegetables let the rest of the meal down ( potatoes tasteless and not particularly well roasted , cabbage / kale good but the red cabbage was sickly sweet and the swede/ carrot mix was so salty it was inedible , not one member of staff asked how our meal was until we’d finished . It appears the other tables were given gravy boats but we had been forgotten and were given 1 horseradish and 1 jug of water between 7 people. I don’t think we’ll be going back next year.
- Paul (9/5): -
- David (10/5): A lovely little break - shame is was such bad weather - Lovely place to stay and a short walk to most places in Cowes (East and West)

- joshpC5665AV (10/5): A Perfect Birthday Stay in a Stunning Setting ✨ - I was lucky enough to celebrate my birthday at Albert Cottage in January, where I’d been secretly booked into the Master Suite. and wow, what a room. Everything was beautifully presented and maintained to an incredibly high standard, and the bathroom was absolutely stunning.
The team were fantastic throughout the evening and again at breakfast the next morning - nothing was too much trouble. A truly special stay in a gorgeous setting.
- Parminder kaur (10/5): Enjoyed our stay - Was good helpful with our needs No lock on bathroom but quick fixed
- Patricia Elaine (7/5): Quiet which is what we like. - Spacious bathroom, good shower. The location is ideal as it is within walking distance of my daughters house. Lovely breakfast. Windows vented, unable to close. Bar too busy in the afternoon for a drink.
- Samantha (10/5): A proper period property with interesting history and lovely staff! - I hadn’t realised the historic link of the property and that it was used for royal guests of Queen Victoria! I also therefore didn’t realise how close it was to Osborne house which was the purpose of our stay.
The period features were fantastic and we were put in the Bridal Suite which was amazing. The stand alone bath was a real pleasure for me and the most comfortable I have ever experienced. The bed mattress was firm which I like and there was everything you need. The grounds were delightful and a lovely place to sit in the evening before dinner. I loved the homely feel despite its grandeur and the beautiful cat in the stairs as we went down for breakfast was an unexpected bonus! The staff were very friendly and attentive and I would definitely stay there again. There was nothing I didn’t like about the property but I love places like this and a bit of peeling paint and dampness on the high old ceilings doesn’t bother me one bit but it might some people.
The bed had a footboard and for my tall (6ft2) husband was difficult as he couldn’t get properly comfy and stretch out how he likes to do!
- ROBERT (10/5): Made our trip so much nicer as we were there to attend a funeral - Very friendly and welcoming staff, location was superb ( by accident not design)! Breakfast was superb and the server couldn’t be more helpful! Absolutely nothing!
- Leona (9/5): Great location comfortable and charming - Great location to Osborne house with a period charm given the royals used this residence. The service was lovely and so were the meals .
Parking was also very easy. The room layout to the bathroom was a bit strange, there was a loud dripping from the roof after the rain outside due to guttering issues
- Carmel (3/5): - The location was good The room was very run down paint chipped off and stains all over the carpet and furniture. Our room was so cold our baby woke up freezing so we didn't sleep from 230am. Really disappointed with our stay.
- Vanessa (8/5): Historic stay on the Isle of Wight - Great location near Osbourne House and ferry to Southampton. Lovely hotel with Victorian era history. Lots of variety for breakfast, so much food - no need for lunch! Lovely restaurant and bar area for afternoon drinks leading out to the gardens. In room milk supplies were capsules as opposed to fresh milk, would be good to have an in room small fridge.
- Marguerite (9/5): Birthday mini break. - Lovely evening meal. Very comfortable and period room. Excellent breakfast. Efficient and pleasant staff for the whole of our stay. Light on telephone that came on during the night.
- Ka Yee (9/5): -
- Sandy (9/5): Charming character hotel with excellent service. - Beautiful building and grounds and felt very festive with lovely Christmas decorations.
- Natalie (6/5): -
- Peter (2/5): Very dissappointing, over priced, definitely not Deluxe and most certainly NOT worth the money. - The location was convenient for access to other attractions and amenities. The Hotel room we had was room 4 the Albert room. This room is immediately above the Engine Room which provide breakfast to guests. Consequently from approximately 7:20am every morning the door to the Engine Room is continually opening and closing with a loud bang every time which shook the floor and the bed in the Albert Room. So one didn't need an alarm call! The room itself was very tired and needs redecoration. The furniture apart from the large wardrobe and drawer unit was extremely shabby and would not have looked out of place in a junk yard or at the rubbish tip. The dressing table top was split and had a terrible large black stain on it while the accompanying chair was also badly split and splintered along the top. The sprung mattress on the bed is completely shot and the structure of the mattress collapsed such that it sags in the middle making it extremely uncomfortable. The fabric on the two side chairs was split and the button studs missing on one making it also uncomfortable. There were two chandeliers in the room with LED lamps in them. Unfortunately not all the LED lamps worked. The curtains in the room and in the en-suite bathroom were split / torn.
The main restaurant was a long walk from the main hotel. The menu was extremely limited, gave a false impression and did not live up the the expectation set in the write up for the Hotel or its own documentation. While the food was edible it was generally poorly produced. We were the only people in the restaurant on the Friday evening. We cancelled our subsequent reservation and ate out.
We have never encountered such a catalogue of problems with an hotel room before. This was meant to be a Deluxe Room. It certainly was not.
- Michelle (9/5): Very good - Lively and cosy and nice furniture nice bar Nothing to dislike
- Daniel (9/5): -
- Sally (10/5): Lovely historic stay near Osborne - What a lovely and historic stay - beautiful room that was dog friendly too. Highly recommended. All good for us!
- Phil (8/5): Perfect one night getaway - Amazing traditional hotel with great charm A little understaffed
- Edward (8/5): -
- Nick (10/5): - Really attentive staff , great service and really good food
- Brian (10/5): Fantastic - Staerf friendly Surading
- Peter (9/5): A delightful hotel refreshingly different from modern offerings. - A delightful historic hotel. The staff were outstanding and the breakfast was very good. Pleasant bar and restaurant. The mattress was not the best I have slept on. The bathrooms were spacious and well-appointed, but some peeling paint and loose tiles. No hand cloths although the towels were good quality.
- Sue (10/5): A charming visit with Prince Albert. - A gorgeous property! Very comfortable room and excellent breakfast. The surroundings make you feel as if Prince Albert has just stepped out. Very convenient for the Portsmouth ferry and visiting Osborne House. Nothing
- Denise (8/5): Enjoyed it. - Good Old, marked furniture. Understand why - but since you ask…
- jonathan (10/5): -
- 120jennyf (4/5): Poor - We booked this hotel to celebrate my husbands 80 th birthday as it had good reviews but were very disappointed with the cleanliness of our room wee on toilet and only hot water in shower and stains on bedspread breakfast was good and most of the staff were very good but the hotel manger was not the best he just didn’t want to listen to our problems we did try to get some composition for the inconvenience but we were offered a free glass of wine but we did get a bottle and he was not going to review it and said he had done enough in the way of composition very disappointing
- cliveexmouth (10/5): Really good. - A historic place to stay which has maintained it's character. Lovely outside grounds, and so traditional inside. Our room was lovely with an amazing bathroom. Perhaps the double bed could have been a queen or a king. Staff were superb and overall it was a relaxing place to stay. Breakfast was very good. Cannot comment on lunch or dinner.
A very enjoyable 3 night stay.
- emmac933 (10/5): Great stay! - We booked this through a travelzoo deal and were amazed, lovely place. Gardens and terrace beautiful with comfy seating and blankets. Staff were all really friendly. Restaurant food and breakfast very good! The bathroom in room 11 was huge just lacking shelf space to put anything including in the shower although it was big enough to bend down to the floor. Unplugged the phone as all through the night it would light up every few minutes but they are just a couple of really fussy points. We had a lovely stay thank you!
- Lynne (9/5): Very pleasant and relaxing. Will make a future visit - The comfort and quality of service. The friendly helpful staff. The style fits the age and history of the building A warm day but the room radiator heating was on and couldn't be turned off. Staff did rectify the problem but still left the room uncomfortably warm
- Micemurders (8/5): Boutique country house style close to Osborne. - Country house style hotel on the edge of Osborne estate. Plenty of guest parking, friendly checkin. Spacious room, comfortable bed, even more spacious bathroom. Good choice of breakfasts included in rate.
Room a bit hot even though heating not on and windows open. Decor needs a refresh in places, otherwise all good.
- Barbara (9/5): Great hotel - Beautiful building and position to Osborne house lovely gardens Nothing
- Steven (8/5): -
- Jodee (10/5): -
- RayH301 (10/5): Lovely stay in an historic building - We stayed in the Albert room on the first floor. It had a large bedroom with a comfortable bed. The bathroom was very spacious with a separate bath and shower.
The breakfast was excellent and we enjoyed drinks in the bar/garden. All the staff we met were very helpful and polite. I would happily stay there again.
- Mike (9/5): -
- christophernF3202VE (2/5): Owner and Management are not interested in legitimate issues - My partner and I stayed at the Albert Cottage hotel in room 5 - Arthur from the 31st July for two nights.
We booked the stay after having a most enjoyable experience on a previous visit for two nights on the 27th May when we stayed in the Empress suite upstairs. We enjoyed the stay so much that we were keen to come back, and booked our most recent stay before we checked out, but requested a ground floor room as my partner has mobility issues. We were informed that it would have to be a double room, but we were happy with that and having prepaid, looked forward to our return.
On our arrival, we were informed that we were given room 12, which is upstairs, I mentioned that I had already arranged for a ground floor room, the member of staff then offered us room 5.
We found the room to be very small and was informed by a member of staff that it was the smallest room in the hotel. This wasn't a major problem, but the stifling heat in the room was oppressive. We found a fan, but with the short lead, it was ineffectual in moving the air sufficiently round the bed area. It was also noticed that the windows were held open by small wooden props.
There was a reasonable supply of tea and coffee, but as my partner cannot have caffeine, I asked a member of staff called Chris, who it turned out to be, was the general manager, if we could have some decaf teabags and more milk. Having done so, we popped out for a few hours, but on our return, the teabags and milk had not arrived. As it was past 5pm I popped along to the bar and spoke to Luke, who I remembered from our last visit as being very friendly and professional, he immediately organised the tea and milk, plus an ice bucket to keep my partners probiotics cool as she was recovering from a very serious diverticulitis flare up and hospitalisation.
Our evening was spent watching TV as my partner felt too tired to go out, especially with the flash floods which had arrived that evening.
As previously mentioned, the windows were wedged open, but being on the ground floor, we did not feel it prudent to leave them open overnight, so I removed the props which was fine on the bathroom and right hand window, but the left hand window fell with such force, and trying to stop the window, I strained my right shoulder
For background, I am due to have surgery on my shoulder on September 23rd, but this incident exacerbated the pain I am suffering.
In the morning, due to the stifling heat in the room, I attempted to prop the windows open again. The left window, again caused problems as I had to use my right arm to open the window, due to the beside cabinet and light being directly in front of the window. The sash cord being broken and the cause of the problem.
I felt that I needed to report the incident and again spoke to Chris, the manager, he informed me that he was aware of it and would get maintenance to fix it, but that would be early the following week. I had already told him, that I had hurt myself in the process of opening and closing the window, but he brushed over this and did not once ask about my welfare. I suggested that it ought to be recorded in the accident report or log book and he said he would do so.
Later that afternoon my partner and I arrived back in our room and found that the bed had not been properly made, the used bathroom products had not been replaced, Dirty plates and rubbish had not been removed. As such I had to speak to Laila who, being very professional, dealt with the issue personally and suggested that we wait in the bar and enjoy complimentary drink. On our return to the room, it was made up perfectly, unfortunately it was still uncomfortably warm.
The next day, on check out. I spoke to Chelsea and she was aware of the substandard room clean, but was not at all familiar with the window problem and at my request, she checked the accident log and found that the manager had neglected to make any report whatsoever. If I'm honest, it did not surprise me as he seemed so blasé over the incident, but I was annoyed at how my requests to him, firstly regarding the teabags and secondly my injury had been dismissed as inconsequential.
As I mentioned at the beginning of the email, we both thoroughly enjoyed our first visit, but this visit, made us feel as if we were in a completely different 2 star hotel, feeling that Basil Fawlty was in charge!
I reported the problems via an email to Annie, the owner, but despite contacting her and the hotel four times, she could not be bothered to respond, obviously customers and their welfare are not not even a consideration and not worthy of putting pen to paper and frankly, my partner and I are disgusted by the owner Annie and the manager, Chris's attitude.
Iwas informed by a member of staff that, she is trying to sell the hotel, perhaps she has lost all interest in it and the guests!

- Linda (10/5): Excellent in every way - Fabulous hotel in great location with lovely friendly and helpful staff Everything was perfect
- iangQ6346VV (8/5): Lovely Building with Great History but lacking in finishing touches - Where do I start
Isle of Wight not great for Hotels
Albert Cottage has some great things going for it … history and beautiful buildings.
Unfortunately this must cost a few quid to maintain and whilst we saw great efforts it is obvious there is a problem.
We had a really great nights sleep and staff were great also but finishing touches are lacking
- Judith (10/5): -
- Lukas (8/5): Albert Cottage Hotel will see us back again. - The hotel and surrounding immediate area is like fairytale. We stayed in the Empress room which took our heart away with its size, decor and general ambiance. You have personalised message with homemade biscuits on arrival too. Everywhere you step there is a touch of class and taste for art. We cannot wait to be back in that room again! We loved everything but if we need to point out one thing that would be the size of the cooked breakfast. To get 1/2 slize of mushroom and 1/2 slize of black pudding feels rather stingy and doesn’t feel appropriate to the rest of this wonderful experience of stay.
- Gary (8/5): -
- Nehal (10/5): -
- Chris (9/5): A great stay - The hotel had generous sized rooms, very clean and beautifully furnished/decorated We had two rooms. In the suite the main bedroom doesn’t have a window to outside, but to a sealed court yard instead. On a hot day, the room
Didn’t feel ventilated enough.
In the other room the window squeeked all night.
- Sandra (9/5): - Location very good beautiful grounds excellent breakfast Limited bar time, closed at 10pm, a little tired in places, bedroom lock very difficult to use
- Carmen (9/5): Really enjoyed the hotel and facilities and would have rated it five star if we hadn’t needed to mention the minor issue - Historical aspect, fabulous building and setting, great staff, great bar and restaurant. Shower tray very slow to release shower water, shower head in need of descaling, stained bed cover.
- Rosemary (10/5): -
- Noel (10/5): A memorable stay …will be back hopefully next year. - Fantastic location, room , surroundings , food and ALL staff. Nothing!
- alessandro (9/5): - Bellissimo cottage, camera spaziosa, parcheggio, staff, colazione e buon ristorante. A 3 minuti dal Ferry
- Tara (9/5): Elegant and a great get away :) - We stayed in Room 2, which was beautifully curated and thoughtfully designed. The bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom was spotless and elegant. The room also had a TV and complimentary water, which was a nice touch. The on-site restaurant, Sapphire, was absolutely incredible, and the staff were fantastic throughout our stay. Breakfast was delicious, and the location was very convenient — only a 9-minute walk to the bus stop and right next to Osborne House, which is an absolute must-visit. As for the dislikes, there were only a couple of minor points. The carpet had one noticeable dark stain in front of the bed, though this didn’t affect our stay at all. There was also no air conditioning, but fans were provided and the windows opened, so it wasn’t a major issue at all.
- Ton (9/5): - The building and garden. Great breakfast. The bed was a bit small and the room rather warm, but what do you expect from a hotel with the allure of Queen Victoria’s era?
- Karl (9/5): -
- francois (7/5): -
- Derrick (8/5): -
- EVELYN (9/5): Relaxing hotel. - The restaurant manager was very helpful and friendly (Luke) . Made us very welcome.
Very relaxing location. We have stayed before but many years ago. Bath flooded when trying to fill.
Reception were aware but didn't seem to believe us when we said it came from under the Bath end. Scatter cushions on bed were grubby where customers had been using instead of removing before lounging.
There was plenty of seating so why us the bed scatter cushions so can't really blame the hotel.
- Keith (10/5): It was a highlight of our short stay on the IOW - The enthusiasm of the staff. Excellent restaurant and kitchen. Decor and ambiance outstanding. A great experience only to be repeated. Nothing to dislike
- Emily (10/5): -
- craig (8/5): Beautiful hotel - Lovely attractive hotel, well situated near Osbourne house. Staff all were really good, chatty and pleasant. The room was on the ground floor and lovely old sash windows. Trouble was it was sooo hot at night and being on the ground floor we couldn’t really have the windows wide open. Needs air con or a much bigger better fan in the room.
- ShirleyD1488 (10/5): Lovely mid week break with Grandchildren - A lovely hotel and amazing staff. The hotel itself is a little tired around the edges but the friendly team and lovely grounds make up for any shortfall. Breakfast was very good, especially the sausages and omelettes. It might appear from the web site as not very child friendly but our Grandchildren loved it there and the Alice suite was a great size for the 4 of us
- Frank (9/5): Voortreffelijk hotel vlakbij Osborne House - Kamers waren ruim met goede bedden. Voortreffelijk ontbijt. Genoeg parkeerruimte. niets
- Conny (9/5): - Zalig gegeten in het restaurant, zelfs glutenvrij 😍
- robert (10/5): Excellent, sad that only 2 or 3 people came to the bar . - History ambience style and quality of staff . The owner obviously cares about hospitality Nothing
- Nicola (9/5): Posto incantevole - Location molto bella, storica e con grande fascino. Personale molto gentile e camere molto spaziose. Le tende sono di colore chiaro (almeno nella mia stanza) e quindi entrava un pò di luce la mattina.
- Ruth (7/5): Pleasant enough. - Location. Good breakfast. Very mediocre dinner.

- JPESP (10/5): - Great staff, beautiful garden, restaurant food very tasty, comfortable bed. Could do with a plug socket/extension closer to a mirror for hairdryer use, but very minor!
- Christine (10/5): Expensive but worth the price - lovely place to stay - We had a excellent stay and would love to stay again in the future
Suffice to say we would recommend the hotel to others and highlight the excellent service and balance of old world. Harm and modern comforts The tv was a problem to navigate and unclear re channel access
- Emily (8/5): Lovely and welcoming hotel, could do better to cope with dietary requirements - We had a great family room which was actually more like a suite, very spacious and comfortable
The gardens are beautiful and we enjoyed the restaurant at dinner time I have a gluten free diet and warned the hotel in advance. However at breakfast my smashed avocado ‘on toast’ was delivered with no toast. I then had to request this item and waited over 10 minutes for it to arrive - by which time my poached egg was stone cold. This meant that my breakfast was not enjoyable at all. This lack of consideration is not acceptable in a hotel of this ranking.
- Alan (8/5): The hotel was a suitable base for our stay on the Isle of Wight - Breakfast was OK. Location suited our purpose. We were not aware that the dining room was closed on Monday and Tuesday (two nights out of three) until our booking was confirmed. Very limited choice of good eating places within walking distance. Unfortunately our room overlooked the busy road which could be noisy.
- Sebastian (7/5): - Gardens and room size. Carpets needed cleaning.
- Chris (7/5): Pleasant. - Choices at breakfast good and well cooked. Whilst the bar service was good, on occasions prolonged conversations with guests were unnecessary.
- Monique (9/5): Geweldige, historische locatie. - Prima ontbijt met voor iedereen wat wils.
Personeel behulpzaam. Bedden zijn aan de zachte kant wat ik niet gewend ben.
- Anne (8/5): - Our bedroom
- Stuart (4/5): Disappointed after getting a very positive review from a relative who stayed there a couple of years ago. - Beautiful building and gardens Tired room. Bed too short and rain shower too low for a 6 foot person. Wear and tear on the fittings and bed was soggy.

- Sarah (10/5): Recommend this great hotel - Lovely welcome, wonderful restaurant and bar and great location! There was nothing to dislike. The owners are gradually restoring the rooms and this will take time.
- jeremy (9/5): Lovely setting, great staff, lots of parking. Very relaxing -
- Helen (10/5): - Wonderful experience. Hotel had a lovely ambience. Room was superb.. staff very helpful and pleasant. Definitely eill stay again. Nothing
- susan (10/5): Lovely historical hotel - Cleanliness was excellent.
Good selection at breakfast. N/A
- Pauline (10/5): We had a lovely stay all quite perfect - Location, facilities, friendly staff All to my liking
- carolineinkl (8/5): Period elegance - We spent 3 nights in The Albert Suite. Very comfortable bedroom with a large bathroom with bath and shower cubicle. If you are noise sensitive you might prefer a room at the back.
Breakfast menu was varied and all cooked to order. We had dinner in the restaurant on Sunday evening and sampled two pubs the following nights. Prince of Wales an easy walk serving ‘pub grub’. Longer walk to The Lifeboat but lovely setting and good food.
The hotel organised our ferry crossings and tickets for Osborne House. Worked seamlessly.
A charming stay that felt full of history and charm. TQ to the team.
- Blaber (10/5): - Beautiful grounds, rooms were very impressive, in keeping with the victorian building. Dinner and breakfast were also excellent. Nothing
