Guest Reviews
- daz (6/5): Would stay again. Quaint - Location was lovely.
Staff were great
Atmosphere is great
Rooms are fine
Food was nice Breakfast wasn't possible as not fully stocked dining area. Not a drama, just check before taking it for granted.
Bathroom is acceptable but shower door didn't close allowing water to escape. It's Not going to be your problem as it's not your property, just be aware of it
- Hannes (8/5): -
- Colin (9/5): - Good breakfast continental. Sleeping accommodation great. Nothing
- Angela (9/5): We would happily return - Friendly welcome. Quiet location Would prefer suite and TV in the room
But for the price it was great
- nicholas (8/5): - Pub vibe Sharing the bathroom
- ALLA . (3/5): - Only garden No even TV in room,no interbet connection.bad bed.
- Ian McN (8/5): Simple but perfectly acceptable accommodation. Very helpful staff - Simple room with shared bathroom but very clean and nicely set out. Complementary coffee, cereal and toast avaiable in adjoining little breakfast area with fresh milk, butter etc which was a nice surprise
Did the job prefectly well and good valuye. Staff very helpful and friendly
- Chloe (5/5): - Location great, Bradford on Avon is a lovely town. Thr beds were comfortable. I did not find any information about the fascilities being shared prior to our stay. It was not ideal sharing a bathroom with the other rooms and unknown guests and is nkt a situation I woukd have chosen had I been aware uppn booking. Some of the guests in other rooms were also very loud when we were trying to sleep. Breakfast was cereal or toast from self served in the communal kitchen area which also was not ideal.
- Jenny (6/5): -
- Anna (8/5): Friendly budget accommodation - Lovely old pub in a sweet little village. The food at the pub is wonderful and the staff all lovely. A very reasonable cost for somewhere to sleep. You help yourself to toast and cereal and coffee in the morning, which I liked. No TV in the bedroom but it’s not a deal breaker for me.
- Kelly (7/5): - The facilities were easily accessible, the rooms were separate to the pub so we didn’t have to walk through to get to our rooms. There was plenty of breakfast items in the kitchenette; toast, butter, jams, cereal selection and tea and coffee with fresh milk.
- richard (4/5): Location superb, facilities basic +++ - location, beautiful village convenient for multiple visits to friends and rellies in N., S. and w Wilts bed small double, room small, shared "facilities.
Just rather basic but served our needs: would not return
- Justin (4/5): Basic - The bed was comfortable and slept well.pleasant staff pleasant pub. It isn't that clean. Milk was off, shower awful ,towels hard and not quite big enough and one was marked. No bin liner i know it's acheapish place to stay but they could do so much better
- Ruth (9/5): Nice room over a pub - I had a nice meal in the pub. Very friendly staff. Quiet and clean.
- Sarah (2/5): - Location. Not having an explanation for where the toilets and other facilities were, or being told how to check out. Check in time was too late ( 4pm), Check out time too early ( 10 am). Pillows were as hard as cement.General feeling in the accommodation was one of ' uncleanliness', therefore not wishing to touch many areas in the accommodation. We left the Old Ham Tree after not having slept much, at all and followed our intrinsic need to leave and uplift ourselves by seeing other places in the area ( despite it being Sunday and nowhere being open for us to be protected from the rainy, windy weather.
- Phillips (8/5): I'd stay here again if I was back in this area - Staff were friendly and helpful, food was delicious, bed was comfy I had to ask for the heating to be switched on, a pre-warmed room would've been nicer
- Hayley (5/5): - Location No tv floor was wet in the room
- Adam (7/5): Very good value and would book again great if you want to explore on a bicycle. - It was a nice comfortable stay its basic and no nonsense just a nice bed with plenty of tea and coffee toast in the morning or cereal, the shower is good bring your own bathing gear 👍 . The pub is a proper local good beers and friendly staff. Short jaunt to Bradford on Avon. More soap in case the dispenser runs out.
- Shirley (7/5): Very reasonable for what we needed for our stay in melksham. - It was quite nice to be able to make breakfast when we wanted It would have been nice to have an onsuite but as it was only for one night it was ok.
- Hearher (10/5): Would definetly come again, very clean and comfortable, very hospitable hosts - The beer garden was lovely and very pretty with all the flowers.
My room was perfect, nice view from windows
Very nice pub as well with good food
They were having quiz night on night i stayed and landlord said i was more than welcome to join it, which i thought was very welcoming and hospitable Nothing
- Susan (8/5): - Location fine, did not bother with breakfast only had a cuppa in bedroom, left early to continue our trip to Cornwall. Steep stone steps to accomodation
- lyn (7/5): -
- Zahra (9/5): -
- Oliver (9/5): Booked, stayed, left. - it was a Comfortable room, with a breakfast option, which i didnt take a look at as i needed to be out quite early, to early for me to eat, which was above a cozy pub serving food until 9pm, with excellent range of ales and friendly staff
- John (7/5): . - . .
- wendy (5/5): Somewhere to sleep! - Location Bedroom facilities basic, poor decoration, room temperature low,
- Sergiy (6/5): -
- Clive (5/5): just a two star hotel - Good location if visiting the area with easy parking space Arrived on a Sunday when pub just closing. Shown room and told breakfast was "continental", but in fact was just bread for toast. Not ensuite so shared toilet and small room
- Russel (8/5): - Basic but clean & comfortable with a great pub offering good selection of reasonably priced food & drink Nothing
- Danny (8/5): Great country pub - Perfect location to explore somersety and wiltshire. Lovely country pub run by very friendly staff. The dinner menu was exceptional, great young chef. Rooms were basic but as expected and very clean. Mattresses were very comfy and of good firm quality.
- Lee (6/5): On OK experience but I wouldn't book again. - The food in the pub was nice and good portion sizes. It was listed it breakfast included but it's actually just toast, cereal and instant coffee in a separate room which was only highlighted after booking. We ended up getting a proper breakfast elsewhere and on reflection wished we'd booked elsewhere as there were similar priced deals close by with a cooked breakfast and we ended up paying more.
- Lee (10/5): -
- Paul (10/5): - Clean very helpful
- Edmunds (5/5): - Nice pub and friendly staff Bit too basic, no tv, shared bathroom, bare minimum breakfast
- Nina (9/5): Great value for money, no-frills pitstop with lovely staff in a beautiful area - A lovely no-frills pitstop for a friend and I who were travelling up for a funeral. Comfy bed, lovely friendly and welcoming staff and very good value for money. The shower was decent too. It was clean overall, but as mentioned, it's a no-frills kind of place (which was fine with us). Did have one issue with the toaster tripping the electrics, but the very friendly lady who was the point of contact on the phone resolved it and replaced the toaster on the same day. The separate loo leaked a bit of water on the floor when flushing.
- Julian (9/5): Delightful - The separate breakfast room was wonderful...the whole place a delight. The option to have cooked, or at least warmed, food in a microwave would've been welcome, as would something savoury in addition to jam e.g. Marmite, peanut butter?
- Gary (10/5): -
- Martin (5/5): -
- Michelle (10/5): -
- Euston (4/5): -
- Michael (10/5): -
- Stefano (7/5): A jorney through NT sites - The position, close to National Trust sites
Cheap compared to similar solutions Bathroom can be improved: shower partially clogged, no hairdryer, soap was over
Breakfast could be a bit richer
- Sharon (7/5): As expected, no frills pub rooms. Clean., comfortable for an overnight, plenty of parking, tea/coffee and simple DIY -
- paula (7/5): Good value for money - Great location clean & comfortable No tv in room
- John (10/5): -
- Marcin (9/5): -
- Venetia (9/5): Superb - It was fine for us. Thankyou.
- Thorn (10/5): Exceptional - Everything Nothing
- Maree (7/5): Good -
- Jane (5/5): Basic facilities but adequate for one night . We had booked knowing there was a shared bathroom -
- Kathryn (6/5): Pleasant - Lively pub in beautiful village Room was a bit tired
No tv in room
Door was sticking
- Stephen (6/5): Functional, though felt I was mid sold on the breakfast. - It was an inn, handy location, tidy enough. The inn was closed Monday- Wednesday, tho the rooms were available. It was sold as bed and breakfast, but reality was DIY Cerial and toast and make yourself a brew. Not what I envisaged.
- Jane (5/5): Passable - Great pub. We loved the little kitchen area, and fridge. We knew it was a shared bathroom but not that one shower was shared between three double rooms.
- Michael (10/5): Excellent - Location Breakfast bery limited
- Erin (8/5): Lovely, traditional stay - Lovely, traditional property in an easy to find location. Nice & clean with comfortable accommodation. Staff were excellent. In particular, Lily, who was very helpful & friendly
- Leanne (7/5): Very good for the price - U come and go as you wanted without disturbing anyone and little kitchen to make breakfast No shampoo/conditioner/wash in bathrooms. No tv in room either
- John (4/5): Suits my needs -
- David (7/5): Holy is a fantastic historical place and this is a historical place to stay - Room was clean and comfy. Had tea milk coffee sugar kettle and cups in room. Breakfast room with cereals milk toast jam butter. Shared bathroom and separate toilet but was clean and well stocked. A bit of road noise but not their fault. I could have closed my window but chose not to. Nothing it was very good for the price and perfect location for me
- Hong (6/5): Pleasant - Location was beautiful Room was a little small. Bed wasn't very comfy.
- Lindsay (10/5): Family wedding - Very friendly and helpful staff, The location was great and the rooms were comfortable. I would definately stay again if visiting Bath and the surrounding area. Kitchen could have a sink for washing dishes
- Adrian (6/5): Pleasant -
- Caroline (4/5): Disappointing - Bed was comfortable Torn towels. Broken lock on toilet door. Everything very badic
- Edwards (8/5): Value for money - Simple, good parking, comfortable rooms and clean shared bathroom. Do it yourself breakfast was perfectly adequate and we enjoyed chatting to the other couple staying A bit clearer about check in time. I ticked 10-11pm arrival time but clearly the staff thought we were late. If there us a 10pm cut iff please could there be no option to tick a later time
- Brody (8/5): Would recommend and stay again - Amazing breakfast. Cosy rooms. Felt very much at home instantly. WiFi was a bit sketchy the first night, but was working well afterwards. Pub downstairs was delish, but on the slightly more expensive side.
- Marcin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tom (8/5): Very good - clean comfortable room
good food & beer in the pub
- Steve (8/5): As it says on the tin. - Proper pub, but with a few basic rooms to get your head down. Tea, coffee and cereals and toast provided, beds comfortable and pub friendly with good food. Nothing.
- Ean (2/5): Needs tv and shower step sorting out ( anti slip floor required - Nice area No tv in room fell of step in shower had to go hospital next day lost day of work
- Hayley (9/5): Lovely will always go back - Lovely and quiet nice staff lovely pub and clean just need a tv in the rooms No tv In rooms
- Lesley (8/5): Great stay - pretty little pub in a gorgeous location. Staff were friendly and helpful and it was lovely and clean Shared toilet and shower isn't great and being a bed and breakfast, we did hope for a cooked breakfast but there was a self service kitchen.
- Garry (8/5): Very good -
- Gary (7/5): Good - Nice location and good value for money. Bedroom was comfortable and facilities adequate.
- Robert (7/5): Old Charm Pub - off road parking, Old Charm Pub with Beer Garden, Sitting room for cuppa's and Continental Breakfast Shared Bathroom although not many other rooms to share with
- Matthias (9/5): Superb -
- Louis (8/5): Great value for money - Great friendly pub, room was just what was advertised and had a good stay whilst visiting friends Nothing
- Steven (6/5): Dated not comfortable at all - Dated and not the cleanest even found a two pence coin on the very small drink shelf
- Paul (5/5): Passable - shared toilet and no proper breakfast
- Markegreenhalgh (7/5): Keen pricing for the area - It was OK at the price point as other places in the area were quite a bit more expensive so overall it was reasonable
No TV in the room was a bit disappointing but not the end of the world and that may have been stated in the write up but I missed it
If your on a budget and want to visit the area then its fine for that
The pub food was decent and the staff were great so overall not bad and if I was in the area for tourism the missing tv wouldn't of been an issue If your looking for people who stay in the area for work stick a small tv in the room
- John (6/5): As a cheap option for a one-night stopover, it was adequate but disappointingly basic for 2025 - The room was quiet (double glazing) The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The atmosphere was convivial as one would expect from an English pub. The only towels provided for the shared bathroom were two hand towels. Another guest commented that this aspect was very much like being in a youth hostel.
The do-it-yourself continental breakfast was very basic.
- Marcus (9/5): Superb - We have stayed here before and as always it was super easy with a warm welcome from the owners and staff. We didn't eat in the restaurant have in the past and it offers a good range of home-cooked pubstyle food
- Malcolm (8/5): Cheap and cheerful, great value for money. - Great staff, nice pub. Great location. More hostel than hotel. Very basic breakfast provision. No TV in the room.
- Daniel (4/5): Disappointing - Clean Should make it clearer there is no en-suite and shared bathrooms
- Arundhati (7/5): Good -
- Lesley (7/5): Comfortable stay, thank you. - Fairly quiet for rooms over a pub. Nice location. Friendly, welcoming staff. Good basic self serve breakfast. No TV in room and shared bathroom (although very clean). Only one hand towel to take to the shower but then discovered larger towels in the wardrobe afterwards. Perhaps put those on the beds?
- Lesley (7/5): Apart from it being cold, comfortable stay, thank you. - Quite quiet considering it’s over a pub. Friendly, welcoming staff. Good basic, self serve breakfast available. I stayed in room 1 and it was freezing. Couldn’t turn the radiator on. Slept in a fleece and socks.
No TV except in the breakfast room.
- Kim (10/5): Exceptional - Great place for a nights stay. Would definitely stay again
- Ashleigh (10/5): Well worth a visit at this quaint little pub - The area where it is situated and the facilities are lovely as well as the staff are efficient and friendly. Nothing
- Ian (6/5): Nice people, nice pub, basic facilities, good value for money - A quiet pub with rooms in a quiet Wiltshire Village No Ensuite
- Durant (10/5): Brilliant - Excellent service and value for money Nothing
- Scott (5/5): Passable -
- Adnan (1/5): Bad -
- Linh (5/5): Passable -
- Martin (5/5): Basic accommodation, wouldn’t pay more than £50 next time -
- Sarah (5/5): Staff did not seem to be expecting us - I was ver clean and warm No television in room, i would of expected that as a minimum requirement, the room was not dressed as in picture when you book and no draws in bedside table made it look un finished.
- Andras (7/5): Good -
- Andy (8/5): Very good -
- Wendy (6/5): Pleasant - Friendly staff. Good location. It was not a double bed as advertised. It was a 4 ft. Breakfast was poor. There are not enough tables to sit at. One couple retreated to their bedroom to sit on their bed. There were no chairs in the bedrooms. There was no butter left at all & very little jam for the toast. Poor form.
- Prett (9/5): Simple stay next to a lovely country pub. Perfect. - For the money it was an excellent bargain.
Just what we needed
Room , breakfast. Quite. Warm.
I could have paid that amount of money just for breakfast for two in a cafe ! Nothing
- Dean (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jan (9/5): Really happy, lovely comfy beds, free WiFi, nice staff, nice view from our window inclovely location - Location perfect for the wedding we were attending at a venue with a 3 minute walk away! Lovely room, easy to check in and drop off keys after the event, the staff kindly let us have the rooms earlier than the check in time stated in order to dress for the wedding. Didn’t check the full info and was hoping for a full English! However the ‘help yourself’ breakfast supplied (cereal toast etc) was adequate- we did however visit the Merkins Farm cafe up the road as we’d set our hearts on bacon & egg!
