Lovely bathroom, comfy bed and substantial breakfast for the price we paid. The restaurant in the pub was lovely the staff were so kind and friendly and the food was exceptional, we will definitely come back

Door was difficult to lock and after breakfast, when I returned to my room, I couldnt unlock the door. Rang the pub door, rang their phone, emailed. No response, no one around. Another guest eventually helped, but he also had trouble. Finally unlocked, but really not ideal.

- John (8/5): Accommodation interesting - The suite accommodation was very interesting with the bed on a mezzanine floor. This was very comfortable and was the strongest positive point of the stay. Sadly the internet (which also controlled the TV) was extremely patchy and unusable. The restaurant (a pub dating back to 1560) was charming but had problems with service which was slow. Food was OK but nothing special.
- tim (8/5): Gas mark 9 - Very good staff, excellent safe parking for my motorbike. Food excellent and decent price, I don’t usually go for set meals but it worked for me. Beer is spot on ales. Butty Bach is served well. My ONLY gripe was that the room was 36deg because no one had bothered to open windows and ventilate it. The whole night it only dropped to 27deg with all windows open. Otherwise I would have given it more stars. Also the ‘continental’ breakfast is basically toast and cereals, no fresh coffee.

Room was basic but well appointed, bed super comfy, shower was hot, tea and coffee in room. Self serve continental breakfast in a dining room was great. Food in the restaurant was amazing and beautifully presented. Set in a small town with adjoining farmland. Close the Hampton Court Castle and gardens.

- Sally (10/5): Great find, I’d come back again - Very welcoming staff so that was a great first impression. Very well presented accommodation. Great shower. Plenty of beverages and having a sofa too in the evening was a bonus. Enjoyed some good food in the pub along with a very drinkable bottle of red. Great atmosphere. Bed was very comfortable. It is only self serve continental breakfast of cereal, yoghurt and toast. But price we paid was ok for that. Bad points - road was noisy but ear plugs sorted that out. Also need an eye mask as the roof window doesn’t have blind but apart from those points, I’d stay here again.

- Neil (10/5): - A great place as a base to visit Herefordshire. The food in the pub was all freshly cooked to order and there was a good selection of beers and wines. The staff were excellent particularly the bar manager (Cam), he was totally aware of customer needs throughout the pub. The Arkwright room was a good size, well equipped and clean however, the stairs to the raised bed area could be a problem for some people and the bathroom is downstairs. Overall, for us, it was exactly what we were looking for and the rates were very reasonable. The continental breakfast self served in the communal breakfast room was enough to set us up for the day. I would stay there again.

Fruit choices only banana /apple! We were able to book a table for evening meal but staying guests not reserved a table ,so prior reservation required.
- David (10/5): - we were very impressed with the value of England's Gate .Plenty of convenient parking, the room, although small, was immaculately clean, very well and comprehensively equipped. there was also a generous hospitality tray. Breakfast is DIY but do not judge! The selection of food on offer is wide, a choice of hot drinks, juices, yogurts, cereals, fresh fruit and bakery goods is enormous. We also dined in the restaurant were we had good food at sensible prices. Nothing not to like about this place, we would not hesitate to return.
- alfred (6/5): Englands gate and Coach house - The young staff did their best, however the photo I saw and confirmed for my stay showed a double bed,I actually got a single bed , which felt extremely soft and small.I expected more from alledged boutique hotel,make your own breakfast too,easy money I guess if we are dumb enough to fall for it.

- Phil (10/5): Awesome 10/10 - This was mine & my fiancé first time at England's Gate Inn & Coach House and we booked on the spur of the moment for a weekend getaway & we're so pleased we did! We had the Chilman room with a private entrance & what a view we had from our huge super king-size bed from our private door! Just hope they get the handles fixed on the private doors fixed for our next visit but that's a small thing,and the food next door was awesome! Enough said thoroughly enjoyed ourselves 10/10

Continental breakfast was very basic and help yourself, however that was all we needed on this particular stay. Only thing to mention was very thin walls and we had a very loud lady next door chatting on the phone til 1am!

Free parking space for each room. Extremely good value for money. Premier Inn, Hereford wanted £110 more for 1 night(!) and would have charged extra for breakfast and parking! We had a meal at the pub that was OK. All the staff were very helpful and friendly.

- Lisa (10/5): Great stay with fabulous food at the pub - It was a lovely room in a converted barn which had 7 rooms I think. We had booked the most basic room but the bed was comfy, it was clean, it had a lovely bathroom, there was a TV with apps connected to their internet which worked well without any lagging (which happens often at hotels!) Breakfast was nice, a do it yourself continental with everything you could need. We had a meal in the pub and I have to say it was the best food we have had in a long time, the chef was on point and everything was delicious. The staff were short staffed so were running around a lot but were very attentive and great at their job as the place seemed to be running like clockwork! I would recommend staying here but make sure you have a meal as you would be missing out!

- Sam (6/5): - Decent room and comfortable bed, but hadn't been hoovered on our arrival and we found previous guest's hair almost everywhere in the room, toilet and bath included. Light fixtures only half-worked, WiFi signal was weak, the entire room shook when our neighbour used their front door and there was no curtain on the skylight. That said, it's a relatively cost-effective stay, we had a decent night's sleep both evenings and it's a short car journey to Hay-on-Wye, which is the reason we booked in the first place.

- Verified traveler (8/5): A tale of two halves - We stayed two nights and it was both good, and not so good… arrived Friday, shown to our room by a lovely chap (sorry, didn’t get his name); we ate outside as it was a lovely evening. Food was excellent. Breakfast on Saturday was good with plenty of choice and gluten free produce available. Saturday evening - Cameron and the other chap were working their socks off, as there was a big party in. After much discussion, they were eventually able to organise food for us, outside, but not till 9pm, having been promised 8pm. However again, food was really good. Unfortunately Sunday morning breakfast was poor - none of continental breakfast foods had been replenished from the day before, so there was one croissant and one yogurt to share between seven rooms, as the place was fully booked. We had plenty of bread for toast, baked beans and lots of cereal so we didn’t starve, but it wasn’t anything like the previous day. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Would I stay again? Probably not, despite the wiring/bar staff being as accommodating as they could. They needed more staff on, on Saturday evening.

- David (10/5): Quaint country pub with modern compact rooms - What an amazing find in rural Herefordshire. We just needed a bed for the night, but got a whole lot more: a wonderful welcome from the barman who was aware of my disabled friend’s requirements, and nothing was too much trouble for him; a table reserved for dinner next to the accessible door; a lovely accessible bedroom with external step free access; spotlessly clean with relevant adaptations to the bathroom including a seat in the shower; tasty pub food served efficiently and with a smile, and to cap it all 4 different local Wye Valley real ales on tap served in this traditional pub full of friendly locals. We will definitely return!

The restaurant the evening was very good, the service was a little slow ( slightly understaffed, and busy evening), the food was excellent with generous portions. The choice for drink was very good too.

It was “get it yourself” with no supervision. The produce was prepackaged, and really wasn’t a Continental breakfast. Croissants in wrappers, no fresh meat, cheese or rolls. No filter coffee. A bit of effort could have made something special.

- Lee (6/5): - Being quite remote is an advantage and a disadvantage, it’s a local pub for local people but the staff make you feel welcome. There was not terrestrial tv in the room so you have to log into one of your streaming services, fine if you have them but no good for news and live programs. Our door key fitted the main door as well as our door, this made us think that this may mean the other keys may also fit our door? Continental breakfast is in the kitchen type area, and seems well stocked, I hope you get along with the other guests as there is nowhere to hide over breakfast.
