Guest Reviews
- Sue (7/5): We enjoyed our stay, but the included suggestions would definitely improve the experience. - Reality was the same as the photos on line.
servicing was good
We were very comfortable basics missing were:
potato masher, normal size tongs - only very large BBQ tongs were there. Matching wine glasses - sizes were random and only 3
On arrival, safe didn't work and no ironing board - this was rectified efficiently. No can opener - I bought one and left it in the unit for future guests.
Having 2 dogs and 1 whining cat as constant companions on our deck was off putting, especially the cat hair all over the deck chairs and thus onto our clothes. Instructions on how to work TV and get local channel would be helpful
- Nadine (8/5): -
- Guglielmo (10/5): Friendly, helpful staff. Very clean and comfortable, would recommend ☺️ - Very clean, comfy beds Quite dark to walk to on the side street, ok with phone torch or scooter/car
- Aroha (8/5): - Location was good across the road from Muri night markets. Loved the dog at the property. It was difficult to find needs better signage out on the main road.
- Andrea (9/5): - Great location and facilities. Beautiful villa
- kim (10/5): Love mama Tara. Would stay again. Maybe the villa - That it was set back in the mountain side. Very quiet
- Veronica (8/5): Loved our stay with Mama Tara’s. - Great little home away from home. Great location but away from the hustle and bustle a little bit. Clean and perfect for a little or larger family. Not properties fault but a very very friendly dog next door who was a bit jumpy at first. But tough on our 3 year old who wanted to run around outside. By the 4th day she had settled down. Friendly but a bit jumpy.

- Rebekah (8/5): We had a fantastic stay and would stay there again. - Excellent location, easy check in. Clean and tidy. There wasn’t anything that we didn’t like.
- Sophie (7/5): Great spot to stay in Muri Beach, would definitely recommend getting a vehicle to get to and from accommodation - Really great space and comfortable beds, close to town and lots of facilities A bit of a difficult place to get to without vehicles, bugs / ants inside at times
- Keu (7/5): Excellent place to stay for a small family. Quiet area with added comfort’s necessary for hot humid weather. - Beds were very comfortable. The dogs and cat. Dog pooped on outdoor furniture next to front sliding door. Team were great though, notified them of issue, I arrived back to accomodation and poop was cleaned. As much as i adore animals, having unwanted extra guests around wasn’t ideal. Guests: please refrain from feeding dogs or cat, it creates unnecessary behaviour from animals when other guests visit.
- Pankaj (10/5): Epic Stay. - Great location. Nothing
- Vanina (10/5): -
- Natasha (10/5): -
- Joanna (10/5): -
- Waiti (9/5): Perfect! - Loved the beds. Super comfy. The property was super clean and had everything we needed including a washing machine. Loved the space in the bedrooms and kitchen, lounge and bathroom facilities. The host was super responsive and the cleaners came a day early to provide more towels and do a room clean. Loved it!!! The ants were a little annoying.
- Lisa (10/5): Excellent place to stay - Excellent location, close to Muri Beach and tucked away down a long driveway
Very private
So clean and tidy
Beds and pillows were very comfortable
Air conditioning in both bedrooms.
Value for money!
- Bryan (10/5): Great for my wife and I plus our two daughters. Location was the best and I highly recommend to others - Very clean greatest location Muri beach close to shops and night markets only a walk away from everything you need Nothing it was perfecto
- Natalie (8/5): - Kitchen tap was very rickety and about to fall off.
- A (8/5): -
- Heather (10/5): - This place was fully self contained. It was private and quiet. Great place to stay - highly recommend Nothing really - maybe a few more kitchen utensils - but other than that - all great!
- Makere (9/5): Beautiful spot! Would stay again - Ideal spot for a family stay - spacious with great facilities including a washing machine. Private with friendly staff and friendly dogs visiting each day. Situated down a long driveway - only a 10min walk to Muri village but we found ourselves needing to plan our day without a car to avoid multiple trips to the house with the kids. Was much easier once we had a rental car.
- Teokotai (10/5): Visiting family - Location was ideal, quiet and peaceful 😌 No problems, was happy with everything
- Sean (10/5): -
- Barry (9/5): - The location was great and the beds were really comfortable
- Nicole (9/5): Would come back in a heartbeat! - Spacious, modern and homely. A nice relaxing location without the busyness of a resort. We really enjoyed our stay here and it's just a short, scenic walk to the beach. Great kitchen to use and stocked with coffee and tea essentials 😁 Only recommendation would be a 'Mama Taras' sign on roadside driveway for taxi's and visitors.
- Julia (10/5): -
- Adrian (10/5): Comfortable place to stay in a great location close to all the highlights of Muri Lagoon - Great facilities with everything you would need. Close to the beach, shops and plenty of bars and restaurants Nil
- Elizabeth (10/5): Great accommodation off the main road. Close to everything. Quiet & secluded - Fabulous. Clean & nicely furnished. Incredibly comfortable bed Nothing
- Virginia (10/5): Home Away from Home - It looked exactly like the pictures and was so spacious for our family of 4. The internet was very fast and never lagged. Bonus we had a washing machine too. Nothing
- Trudy (8/5): Lovely - presented beautifully Hard to find
- Amber-lee (8/5): -
- Douglas (10/5): Happy to re-book another time - Bathroom Ants and mossie's
- Gemma (10/5): - Great location, nice and tidy and super comfortable accommodation. Highly recommend
- Linda (8/5): -
- Nicolette (8/5): - Great location. Next to other bungalows but still feels very private. Lots of ants.
- Janine (10/5): Very comfortable. Enjoyed the serenity and visiting chickens. Excellent location for the night markets. Communication wa - Clean and comfortable. Walking distance to the night markets. The serenity of the mountain views and quiet location made for some great down time but also close enough to the action. Nothing
- Christian (10/5): - Just a wonderful place to call home it's away from the main tourist accommodation peacefully yet lovely homely feeling
- Karalee (10/5): Fantastic spot, enjoyed our brief stay -
- Janet (5/5): Unfortunately, the weather was cold, and the facilities were disappointing. - Location was ok, and on first glance everything looked pleasant. 1. The front entrance sliding screen door was jammed and almost impossible to move to get in or out.
2 The large new shower box was dangerously slippery. There is no hand rails whatever, and the water tap mixer was at the other end of the shower head - inefficient plumbing. Health and safety would fail this in any other country. We were an elderly couple, aged 80yrs and 90yrs and certainly missed at least one secure rail somewhere in the shower box. (I asked on the following day for a rubber mat to put in the shower, for our safety).
3. On the 3rd morning I stripped the king bed to ascertain the sliding, ill-fitted bottom sheets. The bottom sheet was very thin and obviously not clean (dark hair found) and quite grubby. The under-sheet was a Queen size, therefore did not fit at all on the king size mattress. - causing much puckering and discomfort.
Frankly we were appalled at the state of the mattress. Not only was it badly stained from old urine, but covered in gritty sand, human hair and skin, and a mass of flaking material that had built up in the mattress seams. It needed nothing less than a strong vacuum clean all over.
The contact person was called, came over and proceeded to vacuum the bed, and did indeed replace all the linen with good quality clean sheets, and as requested provided a small rubber mat for the shower box. The sliding door was repaired and we were pleased on our return to find everything in order.
- Jaselk16 (8/5): Lovely central place in Muri - Really nice, clean and modern place Just minor, be prepared to push your luggage over the gravel driveway on the way in if you are not dropped off.
Also the place you can store your luggage if needed is a good 10 -15 minute walk - best to get a taxi between the locations if you have large bags like we did. And the taxis are very expensive option, even for the short distance. Keep this in mind if you have lots of luggage.
- Christine (10/5): -
- John (9/5): No hesitation in returning here for next trip to Rarotonga - Location, cleanliness, facilities
- Ballard (9/5): Superb -
- Renee (9/5): -
- Jo-Anne Maria (10/5): - We really loved our stay at Mama Tara’s. Was very clean & had most of what we needed.
The only problem we had was poor communication, no directions & found no signage. Some lovely locals helped us immensely as it was late at night when we arrived.. Thank goodness!
Would definitely stay again xx
- Eleanor (9/5): Superb - Spacious and great location. Short walk to Muri beach. A clothes line and some pegs would be a good addition; more storage in the bedrooms.
- Kirsten (8/5): Lovely quiet location, back from the main road but easy walking distance to beach and shops. - Quiet and comfortable beds The next bungalow leaving outside lights on
- Rachel (9/5): We had a great time in Raro, the people are friendly and helpful everywhere we went.be sure to get a rental car to reall - We loved that the bungalow had good privacy from the other bungalows. Loved waking up to the many local roosters and fed the hens and their baby chicks. Neighbourhoods dogs also came to visit for some treats. Muri beach, cafes and shops and markets were all just a 5 minute walk away. Inside was clean and spacious. One of the hosts Chenee was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. There was nothing to not like 😊
- Permal (7/5): Kia Orana........... - The location was good, staff were accommodating, the BBQ set was excellent. Overall, the environment was nice The cooking facility did not include a rice cooker and given that the rooms were serviced at interval of 4 days, there were lots of ants. hence, the rating of 7 and not happy with cleanness and comfort.
- Trish (9/5): Good value for money thank you - Clean and good bathroom and kitchen Couches a little grubby and one aircon control did not work - access to a pool would have been great!
- Gary (10/5): Heaven on Earth - Breakfast not applicable.. Location Brilliant ⭐️⭐️ Only a little thing but no dryer
- Michelle (9/5): Superb - Lovely accommodation and great location, close enough to walk down to the lagoon.
- Claudia (10/5): - The property was beautiful and clean. Would go there again. However, now that we know where it is located its not a problem. We couldn't find the place and drove for some time to find it. Had to ask the locals. The owner of the land doesn't want a sign there??? Instead it is signposted wirh amother name. Go figure...
- Jacqui (10/5): Relaxing, like paradise - Clean, comfortable beds, lovely staff and great location.
- Nayoko (10/5): Exceptional - Everything. So quiet, nice and comfy.
- Fiona (10/5): A wee gem nestled back from the beach - Quiet spot nestled back from the beach but very close to the beach and everything you need.
The beds are outstanding! You know those ones with big thick mattresses that your body just melts into? Best sleep we have had on this trip!
Air conditioning in both bedrooms, shower pressure is great! Washing machine and drying rack with washing powder added bonus so we are able to have fresh towels each day and clean clothes for our trip home.
Lovely gardens, well maintained property. No pool but so close to the beach you don't need a pool!
We started our trip in a resort and this was a great first experience with villas in Rarotonga. Couldn't fault this property, we will be back!
- Irai (10/5): Perfect location and great service. - Villa was perfect, great parking, great rooms and facilities. Right by Muri night markets and other eateries - but far enough inland to get some privacy. One of the lights in a room went out, called the 24hr service number and someone was sent out and issue was fixed all within the hour. Also, they do have room service available which we were really grateful for as we were busy everyday with a family event. Grateful to Liana for helping us out during our stay. Loved our time here.
- Ian (8/5): Very good -
- Jodie (7/5): Alright for just a short stay - Not great communication in the lead up to our stay. We were fortunate to come across a driver when we flew in from Aitutaki that obviously knew who managed the villa so he made a few phone calls & dropped us off at Muri Beach Club to store our bags till check in. Liana who manages the property was nice enough to give us & our luggage a lift to the villa. Some women dropped around unannounced to pick up some paperwork later that afternoon.
I just thought that all the linen & sheets looked so old & unclean as they had stains. Even the lounge had an old blood stain on it. The knob off the fan was missing in one of the bedrooms & the lights didn’t work in the other. Needs a bigger clothes line for 4 people. We paid for 2 nights but only stayed one as we had a 9pm flight. Did us for one night. I was glad we weren’t staying here for longer. I know others have given a 10, but to each their own . And just a heads up, the expectation is that it’s a $50 per person spend to use the facilities at Muri Beach Club. We spent $93 NZ & our friends spent $89 NZ & they said we could use the pool. We ended up in the lagoon. No shade in the pool at all, so may as well use the lagoon & save your money
- Jennifer (8/5): Clean, comfortable, and good value - The bungalow was very clean and comfortable. Air conditioning was a definite plus! It's close to beaches, shops/cafes, and the Muri night market. We had a lot of trouble finding the place! The street name is not sign-posted, and once we found the right road, there were no signs for Mama Tara's Bungalows. We had to stop and ask for directions twice--once to find the road and then to find the house. Also, don't trust the info that the Muri Night Market is open until 9:00 p.m.--we went at 8:00 and all but one stall was already closed.
- Josman (9/5): Superb -
- Callum (9/5): Superb - Air conditioned tidy facility in a good spot.allowed us to hold our luggage for later check up as flight had moved Lots of ants but that's everywhere
- Frances (7/5): Good - The beds were comfortable and the unit was spacious & comfortable. Carpark2 was all flooded and had issues trying to navigate around the water. If it had gravel throughout carpark2 it would have been easier to get to the unit. The stairs were slippery so a railing on one side would help those to get up the stairs, the ramp too was slippery. The dog had made itself comfortable on the outdoor seat, where it made it wet, dirty & smelly that you didn’t want to sit out on the deck. Would suggest maybe fencing so the dogs can’t go right up to the unit.
- Ashleigh (8/5): Fabulous stay! Perfect for the two of us - Property was very clean and close to Muri beach. Great amenities, shower was stunning and the beds and pillows were super comfortable! Great service and there were plenty of recommendations in a booklet in the lounge. Plus Nescafé coffee! Really excellent The couches were a bit uncomfortable
- Basnayake (10/5): Excellent place for a relaxing holiday. Muri beach is at a short walk. Super market, coffee shop, at - We had everything we wanted. We were even given a late check out which is really appreciated.
- Masi (10/5): Definitely recommending to friends and family. Perfect spot for family accommodations. - Property was perfect fit for my family getaway, nice & quiet spot. Nothing to dislike, perfect everything from arriving to departure.
- Linda (10/5): It was perfect, location was great, the house was so lovely we would definitely stay there again. Highly recommend this - Loved the bedrooms, kitchen had everything we needed . I was also surprised that they provided washing powder, shampoo conditioner, body wash in a decent size bottle.
Having air con and the fans in the room was so good to have it kept my granddaughters
Nice and cool. The amend There was nothing we didn’t like about the property it was perfect
- Shane (9/5): Close to Muri and good value off the beachfront. - Had everything we needed and was modern. Close to Muri and a good option if u can’t get beachfront. Everything was good.
- Tanya (10/5): Exceptional -
- Heron (9/5): Superb - Great to have complimentary eye masks & Ear plugs. Modern amenities & peaceful setting. Lovely local soap/shampoo/conditioner. Would be good to know in advance that host representative was coming by.
- Glenda (10/5): Perfect away from the hustle and bustle of Muri central 😎. Having the use of Muri Beach Club (adults only) was an added - Great location only a 5 min walk to Muri central and the beach and great restaurants. The island in itself is small so close to everything really. One more lounger would have been nice but my fault for not asking … so nothing negative to say really.
- Ari (10/5): Awesome - True to website N/A
- Heather (10/5): Amazing stay at mama Tara's bungalow. - We liked everything about our stay close to beach, lovely modern villa nice and private had everything we needed. We even enjoyed visits from neighbourly dogs and chooks. We will be back. Was nothing we didn't like
- Debbie (10/5): Exceptional - This property is away from the noise of the beach area. The Villas are very spacious and peaceful.
- Sarah (10/5): Would recommend! - Excellent staff and well maintained rental. Nothing!
- Phill (10/5): So easy loved it - Really spacious, clean tidy and well appointed
- Phanith (8/5): - We suggest to the owner of the Mama Taras house to give us free wifi.
Everything is the best for us.
We recommend to the tourists to stay in this house.
Thanks,
- Sarrah (10/5): Relaxing, spacious, perfect for the whole family! - Such a beautiful bungalow! Plenty of privacy from other homes. So spacious inside and out. Plenty of facilities. Not a thing! The only improvement would be a sign to identify where the bungalows are when arriving as it was a bit confusing since we hired a car.
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ashley (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jingjing (9/5): Love this two bdrm bungalow close to everywhere for car rental/supermarket/night market/Muri Beach! - This bungalow is right in the middle of Muri beach, close to 3 different car rental, walking distance to supermarket/take aways and Muri beach and Muri night market. Liana is the best host👍She not only provide outstanding service but also let us know the activities around the area. Liana tried her best to accommodated us even when I called her late in the night for additional blanket and towels, she actioned to it really fast. Hassle free check in, the bungalow got everything we need for our short stay! Thank u for having us Liana, we enjoyed our stay very much, will see you again in the near future. The bed is a bit soft for both room, would be great if could upgrade the bed in the near future :)
- Kerryn (8/5): Amazing place for a good price in muri! - Loved this accomodation. Very clean and tidy, amazing having air con in the bedrooms. Very central in Muri Beach, walking distance to a lot of food places and beaches! Also a car rental place at the start of the road was very handy. Right across from the night markets too! Was very hard to find in the dark when we arrived! Would be good to have a sign at the end of the driveway!
- Jacqualyn (6/5): Pleasant -
- Angela (10/5): Really lovely unit ! - Beautiful unit! nothing
- Cristina (9/5): Superb - It is very comfortable and cleaning. The staff was very kind and help us a lots
- Georgie (8/5): Great place to stay, private and clean, close to Muri Lagoon, night markets, and outdoor activities! - Great place set back from Muri Lagoon, we had bikes and it only took a couple of minutes ride down the road before we were at the beach. Staff were very friendly, and the opportunity to store bags at a local resort made things much easier when flying out at night. There were quite a few dogs and cats that (although cute) hung around, and were begging for food when outside. Felt like you couldn't sit outside and relax while eating as they would paw you/jump up on outdoor furniture.
- Jennyne (9/5): Superb - Clean, tidy, close to dinner spots
- Hemalini (9/5): Spacious, comfortable and clean - The very clean, self-contained bungalow is spacious. We were in bungalow 2. The beds are probably the most comfortable on the island and the shower is amazing. It had a washing machine outside and you can hook up your netflix account to the TV to watch movies. The property itself is about a 5-10min walk from a couple of Rarotonga's must-do's: Island car and bike hire, Koka Cruises, LBV cafe and the Muri night markets. You could probably walk down to Koka Cruises and access the beach there as well as hire a kayak or SUP from next door. The person we were dealing with even had us drop our stuff off at another hotel nearby before we checked in so that we could go on our cruise. They dropped our luggage off later. Very accomodating It's a very nice property. Not much to dislike. It catered very well to our needs
- Maria (8/5): Very nice property and superb beds - Clean and very well looked after The TV didn’t work well
- Maria (10/5): This property is well set up with everything required for the stay. - Location to Muri.
Modern and clean look.
The property was/is great with everything required for our stay.
Presentation of property inside and out is great.
A lovely feel to the property. The stepping stones from parking area to the house steps. Stepping stones closer together would have been a whole lot better and easier.
The dog and cat constantly sitting at our door and hanging around, nuisance. Yes, we shooooed them away, but they wouldn't move off.
The shower entrance having to step over with no safety handle to hold onto, possible slipping hazard.
No rubber bathmat for shower floor, again, slipping hazard.
Use of non slip floor tiles throughout is a hazard, should have used a matte floor tile.
Not having a proper clothes line to hang up washing.
Lounge setting, kept slipping away when standing because of the slippery tile, hazard for anyone who is not steady on their feet.
- Philippa (9/5): Superb -
- Kennie (9/5): The short stay is good, nothing much I can complain. - The house was great and in a private location
- Erandi (8/5): Very good - Great location. A quick walk to the beach
Lovely two dogs on the property who come say hello.
Comfy beds and really appreciated the aircon Nothing
- Grant (9/5): Superb - Love the location, peaceful setting, well kitted bungalows. Nil
- Barbara (10/5): Exceptional - Great place, close to the beach.
- Doug (8/5): Very good - Fantastic property, we had 2 bungalows for a family group. Bungalows well appointed, everything you will need. Beach towels, umbrellas. Staff very responsive if you need something.
There are 2 kittens (black & white) live next door with the Mama Dog. Please feed them. Cat rescue (Paws & Claws) down
the road know about the kittens. Please help them with food.
