Guest Reviews
- Deborah (10/5): We stayed to go to selwyn ski fields. This was close enough that we could drive there easily. There’s also a place aroun - Quiet, fireplace. Easy to find.
- Jamie (6/5): -
- Tobias (10/5): -
- Hannah (5/5): -
- Stephanie (6/5): - The accommodation was basic but clean and we had everything we needed.
The location was great and the pub and bakery were just a very short walk away. We skied at Selwyn so was just 30mins away. There was no one at reception and we just picked up a key off the front desk.
Though the town was very quiet and felt safe, the lack of having someone available/present made me feel slightly uneasy as it was just my young son and I staying.
- Tom (5/5): Good place to stay for a few days at the snow. - Good location. The room was clean and warm, and the beds were comfortable.
There were some basic facilities for meal preparation in the common room (microwave, toaster, hot water).
One of the other guests collected firewood and lit a fire in the fireplace one night. The room was tiny - ok for a few nights, but not for a long stay.
We didn’t see the manager at all. It would have been nice if the open fire was lit each evening.
- Vitaly (10/5): Affordable nice stay in the convenient location close to the Selwyn Snow Resort - We needed a short stay (2 days) near the Selwyn Snow Resort and we found this motel as the most affordable and closest in terms of its location. Everything matched my expectations according to the advertisement. The room is 20m2 - very tiny but functional as we needed just beds for sleeping. When we arrived late night, the reception was unattended but the key for the room was left, the A/C unit was turned on so we went into the warm and cosy room when we arrived. Toilet/shower were quite clean. There was hot and cold water supply in the lounge area with tea and coffee bags. We parked in front of the motel reception that was very convenient. In the range of a few hundreed meters we found a few places to eat - bistro and bakery and enjoyed eating in both of them. Overall, it was good value for money in such remote location and close to the snow resort. N/A
- Larissa (1/5): UNSANITARY, DIRTY, UNPLEASANT STAFF TO DEAL WITH! - NOTHING - The place is dirty, the bed sheets were not changed.
No staff present on site. The place is UNSANITARY! The bed sheets had not been changed and the bed and pillow had hair all over it.
The manager Anne came to the hotel when i called to inform her, she checked the room and tried to brush the dirt and hair off the bed, she said "i thought it was done yesterday although i did not check this myself"
The room is small, the bathroom is dirty and the place is very outdated for the price you pay!
I will not ever stay again and will NOT recommend to anyone.
Read through the reviews and i am not the first review like this!
Save you money and stay at the Snowy Mountains Report as you head into town, better rooms, better staff, clean facilities!
- Robert (4/5): -
- andrea (6/5): -
- Matthew (6/5): Pleasant - Good location proximity to Selwyn Snowfield No firewood provided for open fire
No facilities to wash dishes - had to use own (very small) bathroom basin.
Dirty dishes left out in common area
Towel missing from bedroom - no one at reception for initial check in.
- Rachel (5/5): Family stay - Close proximity to Adaminaby pub and town centre
Parking was easy at the front
Check in was hassle free Bathroom was tiny
Room was very small for 4 people
Bed wasn't the most uncomfortable
No dry room for skis and boots
- Swastika (6/5): Pleasant -
- Kate (8/5): Great option for the snow - Well located in town and for the snow, large communal areas Very small rooms and bathroom
- Anna (5/5): Very small - Good location but the room was extremely small, bathroom was even smaller, It was advertised with slippers but no slippers anywhere. The communal room was warm but the furniture had its use by date. Definitely not a 4 star. Bathroom extremely small, barely could sit on the toilet
- John (4/5): Disappointing - Very noisy.
- Bruce (8/5): Welcoming manager - Anna the manager is extremely helpful and considerate. Very comfortable and clean ....very homely and relaxing environment. Great common lounge and dining area. Very warm and welcoming when so cold outside Family room a bit tight with adult size family members...but still workable for a short term
- Windy (9/5): Nice and clean affordable hotel - Clean facilities and the location is exactly on the way to the Selwyn snow resort.
Quiet and friendly people around this little town
- Carly (5/5): Passable - Good location to Selwyn Needs updating
- Paul (2/5): Very poor - Location Rooms small, cold, air cond / heater was very noisy but only way to heat room overnight, light did not work in bathroom
- Mik (7/5): Well located motel in Adaminaby close to Selwyn snow fields and the dining options of the town - Location is fantastic, the value is great and the quality of facilities needs to be put in context of the cost. No staff at check in or check out, but this made life straightforward. Large open plan communal lounge/dining area with tea and coffee making facilities which were well stocked. Bunk beds creaked and were noisy constantly every time someone moved on them, and 2 towels provided for 3 guests. The bathroom was very small, but at least private and attached to the room.
- Ian (7/5): Good -
- Kathryn (10/5): - I came to town for a low key respite holiday, to have a look at the mountains and to enjoy some quiet, and was rewarded! Thank you for the clean space and plenty of fluffy pillows. Dinner at the pub is an easy walk, all within the majesty of the snowys.
- Alan (7/5): Good -
- Christoph (8/5): - The common area lounge room is cosy and has all the things necessary to heat up your food or make some breakfast ie toaster microwave hot water, milk, tea and instant coffee.
- Paula (6/5): Cheap and convenient - Convenient stop over.
Close to pub for meals
Nice village to walk around easily from Lodge Rooms were small and bit cramped.
Didn't see anyone at check in or out but fine as keys were available.

- Wick (10/5): Value for money and comfee. - We did not take breakfast Everything is fine
- Priyantha (7/5): Good - N/A
- Marcus (8/5): - Room was clean and comfortable enough, but a little noisy thanks to thin walls and doors.
- Sean (6/5): Good value, basic stay. - Comfortable stay in a convenient location in the centre of town. Very good value for money. Basic but if you check the website and previous reviews you will be aware of this. Exactly as expected and all we required was a bed for the night halfway through a long drive. Nothing to dislike, just as above, a very basic accomodation.
- Julie (5/5): Passable - Location Tired, basic, paper thin walls.
- Cristina (8/5): Good for the price - Quiet location and convenient check in.
- Alison (8/5): - Small room, tidy and comfortable. Appreciated the shampoo etc. Would be great to have a bedside light option for reading.

- Salih (8/5): - Thank you
- Lorraine (7/5): Good -
- Nona (5/5): Cheap - Quiet Old, dirty
- Robert (7/5): One night stay on Snowy Mountain Highway. - Was convenient after visiting Yarongabily caves. Close to Snow Goose Inn . Cheapest accommodation on our holiday so far but knew before booking that it would be basic. Ok for one night but you wouldn’t want to stay longer. Ok value for money and bed was ok.
- Josh (5/5): Passable -
- Phil (7/5): Comfortable, clean, reasonable price. -
- Michelle (8/5): Very good - Excellent location in Adaminaby. Short walk to the local shops including a good pub (great for dinner) and bakery (open early for breakfast). Rooms and ensuite bathroom very small but functional and very clean. Large open plan communal lounge/dining area with tea and coffee making facilities which were well stocked. Overall, excellent value for money.
- Robert (8/5): - I was able to make my own breakfast and basic dinner using the Lodge's facilities which was unexpected and a big plus. The Lodge Manager was off site until the morning and was very helpful. The Lodge provided all I needed and for a good price.
- Richard (6/5): Pleasant - decent place-basic but clean.
just that there were no staff on location-and no crockery available as above
- James (5/5): Wish we hadn’t - Location in town Uncomfortable bed
No wifi
No face washer
Tiny room
Tiny bathroom
Obviously we made a silly decision in staying there but … there was little else to choose from.
- Clare (5/5): Handy walk to the pub (nice place for a meal) and bakery for breakfast - It was available when nothing else was Looked uncared for and abandoned
- Troy (8/5): - It did the job.Place was clean and tidy. A small uht milk in the fridge for coffee would have been helpful though
- Ali (10/5): - Good to stay
- Shaun (8/5): Very good -
- Aaron (7/5): Good -
- Heather (10/5): - Basic but quite adequate for a stayover. Very clean. Great shower.
- Christine (10/5): - The room was small, but very clean and had all that I needed for a one night stay. It was also a very reasonable price. The shower was hot and the bathroom clean. All appointments as indicated on the website.
- Dave (6/5): - Family rooms are the same size as standard rooms - Dongas.
- Margaret (8/5): Nice place to stay - Nice place
We had it to ourselves till last night when another guest arrived
Comfortable
Had ammenities we need to make meals ( no stove just a microwave)
Lounge area nice and comfy
Given time of year still a bit cold and split system s struggled a bit to warm up big space otherwise like our stay there
- Adam (3/5): if you are by yourself and desperate its ok but I felt like at was at school accomodation, - location and it was the only accomodation that was avaialble too small and the bathroom was too small and barely useable
- Nelson (7/5): Good -
- Leisa (8/5): Very good -
- Luisa (5/5): Passable -
- Colin (3/5): Could be a nice motel/lodge, but they don't seem to care. - No breakfast. I supplied my own. No staff (except for a few minutes each day). Very little heating. Big fire place that was never lit, in the middle of winter. Very dirty carpet.
- Art (6/5): clean and great value for money. - clean and comfortable cramped and basic
- Emily (8/5): Very good -
- Harry (5/5): Passable -
- Art (6/5): you get what you pay for, it’s clean and no fuss budget accomodation so it’s good value for money. - price dated and basic
- Saqib (8/5): Very good - Nice clean and simple space for my family
- Alexey (4/5): Never again. - Affordable price No personnel could be seen during our whole stay (evening and the following morning). Bedcovers had long black hair on them from other visitors or cleaners maybe. Tiniest bathroom. Very loud air con.
- Sarah (10/5): EXCELLENT value for money! - Great value for money. Great location. Fast and easy check in which allowed us to get there late on a Friday night. Very cosy rooms with air con and warm blankets. Water, tea, coffee, cereal, microwave, toaster and sandwich press available to use throughout the stay. Very short walking distance to the shops and pubs. The pillows were a bit too thin for comfort!
- Patrick (2/5): Very poor -
- Zhibin (10/5): Exceptional - Too good Too perfect
- Sabrina (3/5): Way too expensive and really not clean! - Close to Selwyn ski resort Dirty. When I opened the microwave I nearly throw up… very bad ne dirty communal area
- Nicole (7/5): Cheap and cheerful stay in a cute little town. - Walking distance to a few dinner options.
Good lounge area.
Check in and check out were very easy.
Aircon made the room very toasty.
Bed was comfy. Room had a few bugs and the bathroom smelt like vinegar.
The wifi is only available in the lounge area and there is little to no reception or wifi in rooms.
- Francesco (5/5): Passable -
- Andrew (8/5): Very good - Sheets were nice, shower hot, common room pretty good Beds were not super comfortable but OK.
- Cassie (6/5): Pleasant -
- Stephen (9/5): Superb -
- Stewart (8/5): Excellent value, comfortable and about as close as you can get to the Selwyn ski area - Excellent value - I'd be happy to stay there again. While the first impression is that it is a bit rustic, in fact it has been modernised. The bathroom was small but completely new, the heating was excellent, the bed was new and comfortable. I was in a triple room, which had a queen bed under a single bed in a manufactured bunk bed arrangement. (Couples, note: the bed will squeak if you move too much :) A double room might have a different bed, not sure. Plenty of facilities: fridge in the room; other facilities are in the common area near reception: hot water jug, microwave, toaster, toasted sandwich maker. Free wifi is in that common area but can also get reception part-way down the corridor. Quiet location but just 50m from the Adaminaby shops. It's 35 mins (46km) from the Selwyn ski field. The room and bathroom are quite small, but still very happy with my stay here, and excellent value.
- Joan (6/5): Pleasant -
- Slavco (8/5): Very good - I liked how you could sit around lounge talk to different people and have a fire place and TV in a open large room
- Paddy (5/5): You get what you pay for, and at $150 a night in Ski season, this is cheap. - Selwyn Star basically "does what it says on the tin". If you're looking for "Cheap" beds 40km from Selwyn Snowfields, this is the place for you. We managed to squeeze 2 adults and 2 kids into the room, the smallest room I've ever stayed in, for one person let alone 4, but it worked. The accommodation is more like Workers camp, rather than a traditional Motel and I think the usual guest are people working on local projects like Snowy 2.0, however the week wee were there the Snow was good so it was mainly Family groups like us travelling to Selwyn each day to ski. So you're up at 6.30am, out the door by 7am, back at 5pm, dinner at the Pub, into bed by 8.30pm. There's really nothing else to do. The showers worked and the beds did the job. There is a fire place in the "lounge" which is just an open room with a couple of couches and chairs - but there wasn't any firewood left after our first night - you need to manage the fire yourself, as there is literally no staff to be seen. But that's ok, it was like a lodge atmosphere, but a very basic Lodge. If you're planning to make lunches and breakfast each day, as we did - bring EVERYTHING you will need. There were no plates or bowls or proper cutlery. There was a Microwave and a toaster and a sandwich press though, in the Lounge area, and in the room there is a small bar fridge. There is a great Bakery though open most days at 5am about 100 metres down the road. You can get good coffee, pies, sandwiches, Bacon & Egg rolls etc there. Dinners are best at the Snow Goose Hotel, again about 100 meters away from the Star, and there is a Sports Club as well, but we ate every night at the Pub - massive meals were awesome value, and good Country Pub quality. The rooms were incredibly small - we had to get one adult dressed and out the door before we started getting the kids dressed. The "Breakfast facilities" really aren't up to scratch, which is a little disappointing, you need to bring your own plates and cutlery, there's plenty of room in the Lounge area with a couple of tables to set out breakfast & lunch supplies, just no stuff to do it, except a Microwave, a toaster & a Sandwich press. Alos there really should be a decent supply of firewood available in the lounge, so you can at least isn't in there and watch TV or play chess etc in front of a fire, when we were there the first night there was wood, which ran out as we went to bed, but no more, apparently if you buy a bag of wood from the Service station and leave the receipt they will give you a credit.....I think the least you could is just arrange that wood, so there's at least enough each night for a decent fire.
- Michael (8/5): - Stayed here for one night. Heading to Selwyn Snow resort. Nice Snowy Goose Pub with great dinner options 5 mins walk from motel. Also convenience store across the road. Good breakfast at the Bakery 3 mins away. Big trout is just 5 mins walk from motel. The fireplace was nice in the common area. Microwave, free coffee and tea there as well. Rooms are clean but a bit outdated. Water hot and nice shower. Also Ampol station just 5 mins away.
- Daniel (6/5): Pleasant -
- Laine (8/5): Happy - Happy, no issue for a ski holiday Nothing to worry about
- Ben (10/5): Exceptional -
- Thurgood (5/5): Passable -
- Veron (5/5): Passable -
- Alan (4/5): Disappointing -
- Heather (3/5): Poor - Good location for Selwyn Skiers. No service at all. You are completely left to your own devices though this is not clear when booking. More like a caravan site than a motel. The communal lounge had a fire place but no wood. Were told to buy our own. Completely unfair if one person did that, when the motel was at least half booked from what I could see. Inadequate provision for tea and coffee. One ordinary kettle for all of the guests, and a cold water container as the source of water which we had to fill a number of times for the number of people using it. No where to wash our own cups and other utensils other than the public bathroom or our own bathrooms. Will not book here again under current ownership and management. This property has significantly deteriorated in the last 5 years.
- Nadia (9/5): Superb - Super good location❤️
- Nithin (8/5): Very good -
- Regina (6/5): - Comfortable stay, clean bedroom. Rooms are small but comfortable. Shower nice and hot. Keep in mind that the kettle,Coffee , tea, cups are available from common area not in your room. There is a beautiful fire place but was off.
Hosts are nice and helpful.
- Kirsty (9/5): Perfect overnight stop for a family - Clean, warm, perfect overnight stop on way to snow. Would like a cup/mug
- James (1/5): Terrible. Won’t ever come back. - The fire alarm kept going off waking up the entire hostel. It first went off at 2:45 am and by the time we left at 8am it had gone off 16 times. Terrible sleep. Management not on site. We’re called but didn’t show up. Have demanded refund but they won’t respond so will have to this further with the Commission or Fair Trading. Obviously the false fire alarms all night preventing sleep. Non responsive host/management, bathrooms are cramped. Double mattress a big saggy. Poor communal kitchen facilities.
- Lani (7/5): Good - Common room and dining room were nice. Room was clean and warm. The bed was quite old and very small. We never saw a staff member while we were there, our room key was simply placed on the reception desk with a note with my name.
- Frank (8/5): Very good -
