The staff was exceptionally kind and attentive, making us feel genuinely welcome throughout the entire stay. The garden and the rooms were absolutely stunning, creating a calm and magical atmosphere. The ryokan also offers two different onsens, both beautifully maintained and incredibly relaxing. Both the dinner and breakfast were simply outstanding — every dish was beautifully presented, incredibly detailed, and full of refined flavors. It was one of the most memorable culinary experiences we have ever had.

A great location to relax and unwind. It was also a nice walk from the translation and bus station yo get to Monkey Park or back down to Nagano. Being an averaged height in the US, I had to duck at every entrance. So if you are over i would say 5'7" watch your head.

Антураж, доступ в бани в отеле и за его пределами. Всего предлагают 4 онсена, два в гостинице, 3 за пределами это совершенно не относится к отелю, но зимой было прохладно. В номере было несколько обогревателей - они вполне справились с обогревом. Такой сезон зима, никаких вопросов ни к персоналу ни к отелю!
- Maksym (10/5): Great experience, would recommend to everyone - The breakfast and dinner were amazing. The facilities were clean and well-maintained. The staff was very kind and helpful. There were enough warmers in the room during cold periods. It was also a nice advantage that we could book an onsen for private use for free every day. The hotel was walking distance from the train station, so we didn’t have any problems with our suitcase rolling to the location. The shower in the room was not so comfortable to use, as the water flow was weak. It appears to be designed for soaking in the bathtub rather than standing and taking a shower :)

- Lee-Ann (10/5): - Wow! This place ‘Kamei no yu’ was spectacular. A wonderful experience from beginning to end. The lobby area looks out onto a little garden. The room we were put in ‘ Mizubashou’ was large enough for our family of four. Little treats provided everywhere. The famous bath ‘Momoyama’ was up the road in Yudanaka Onsen. It was wonderful to get into the yokatas provided and use the onsen in another location. And you don’t want to miss using and seeing the Momoyama bath as the place is amazing! Dinner was served there in the same location - a huge banquet of little dishes. The breakfast was just as good but have this back at Kamei no yu. The cost for us wasn’t cheap but now I feel like it was worth every dollar.

The staff were extremely attentive and smiling. A bit expensive for the overall quality. Dirty carpeting. Few insects in the room that I had to kill. The food was excessively japanese, or not of a good quality, I cannot say which. Many thing were very old (bathroom, safe). The onsen for guests seemed old and with moe.

We have tattoos so we couldn't use the public onsen, but there are two open-air onsens you can reserve on the same day for a private bath so we were very content and satisfied.

After a lot of searching, I found Kamei no Yu, the price was fair, and I loved that it was smaller with only so many rooms. This place exceeds my expectations, the staff goes above and beyond no matter the language barriers. They make sure you're comfortable and have everything you need. It's the perfect way to relax and experience the true hospitality of Japan and its culture. I would highly recomend and would go back if I find myself in Japan agin.

We loved staying there for a night, having a half hour of free private onsen hot spring time, wearing the traditional clothing they provided and eating the traditional meal at the Beauitful restaurant down the street that is included… an experience we will always remember!

- Karin (10/5): - We loved Kamei no Yu! The staff was welcoming and kind. Our room was lovely, clean and looked out onto the garden with lamps. We recieved a welcome sweet with tea, and some snacks in our room. We were able to reserve a bath time in the ryokan. It was a little unclear at booking that the more historic baths and also dinner was at a larger ryokan up the road just a bit. We didn't mind, especially if it keeps a smaller more personal ryokan in business. We only were here one night so we could visit the monkey park. The last time we were in the area was 2008. The town still feels quiet and I imagine most people come for the monkeys and head back to Nagano or elsewhere. I'm happy we stayed and I highly recommend bringing your business not only to the park but to the local ryokan and other businesses.
- Addison (10/5): Exceptional - Intimate atmosphere, smaller hotel with less rooms so it was nice and quiet and relaxing. Big bonus was the private bookable Onsen. The set meals were phenomenal and filling. Nearby access to Yudanaka station makes getting to and from Nagano station a breeze as well as hopping a bus to go to the Snow Monkey Park. Absolutely nothing bad to say about this place.
- Ramsey (10/5): - We loved this hotel! It was the perfect place to explore the snow monkey park and also experience the local Onsen towns, a must do in Japan. The room was super spacious and cosy, and the staff were extremely friendly and welcoming, adding plenty of extra touches such as warm matcha on arrival and teas and juices for the road when we checked out pre-breakfast. Some of the staff speak English but those who don’t are happy to use translate apps to communicate. They made us feel very at home! The highlight for us was definitely the two in-house onsen, which can be booked privately once a day per room. Also included in the room rate was a 10 course traditional dinner and a wonderful traditional breakfast. This truly was a full traditional Japanese experience, much more than just a hotel. We highly recommend making a trip to Yudanaka during your trip to Japan and staying here!
- Alison (10/5): An Idyllic Retreat - Onsens, Fantastic Food, Snow Monkeys - What more could you ask for! A short walk from the Yudanaka Station, this is a perfect little spot. We chose to stay in the Japanese room, very comfortable with a gorgeous garden view where you could sit and forget about the world. The breakfast and dinner were absolute highlights of our stay. The breakfast was an amazing selection of many dishes beautifully presented using local ingredients. I loved the watercolor-sketched menu, which provided a unique and artistic description of each dish. The dinner service was equally impressive. The lovely staff were attentive and went above and beyond to accommodate our specific requests, ensuring a truly personalised dining experience. The staff at Kamei No Yu were exceptional throughout our stay. They were so incredibly friendly, helpful, and always ready to assist with any requests. We were particularly touched by the staff's attentiveness towards my mother, demonstrating a level of care that truly meant a lot to us. Tomo, and the ladies were incredibly patient and helpful. The highlight of our stay was undoubtedly the private onsen session. What a treat afetr a cold day exploring. Relaxing and rejuvenating experience, which I had one at home. Nothing - as our last stop in Japan, it was a brilliant way to finish our trip on such a high.

- Mercedes (10/5): - This is one of the most delightful Japanese full emergence experience you could have. We traveled from Tokyo which in itself a incredible trip by train. Protip: take an uber from the train station. You are greeted like family and your dinner, breakfast and onsen (Japanese hot spring bath) are planned. They offer two different ones in house. Staying in a traditional room is the perfect way to round out the stay. The hotel has beautiful gardens which you can enjoy from the lobby and rooms. The town main street is lined with bars, cafes and more hot spring baths! Dinner is served at a near by (5 min walk) hotel that reminds me of the Kill Bill movie. It is located near the Monkey park. Which is a journey. Walk down to bus stop. Take bus to town. Walk to park entrance then walk 2 miles to pay to go to hot spring where the monkeys gather. Note if you want to see monkey. Go in the dead of winter. Dec-Feb. The park does rent snow boots and gear. I highly recommend this stay. Its rustic beauty and friendly people takes you back in time.

Onsen can be a little too hot, but the entire experience when staying in this ryokan that you have access to multiple osens around. Ryokan provides yukatas and everything you need to make your stay comfortable.

They even left treats in our room and gave very clear instructions on using the various amenities Not too sure, everything was perfect and just how I always dreamed of experiencing an onsen

- Mathieu (10/5): - The room was incredible, experience a lot of fun (Onsen and monkeys) and the breakfast / dinner were some of the best dining experience. The value is unmatched ! Tomo is a very helpful and kind host who thinks of every detail to make your stay unique and memorable (pick you up from the train station / book a private Onsen). We only stayed 2 nights but should of spend at least 4-5 nights as it was a very relaxing area and peaceful area - a stark contrast from the big cities.

- Sophia (10/5): Exceptional - We really enjoyed our stay at Kamei no Yu. The lady at check in was very kind and helpful. Dinner was wonderful and it was nice to be able to book a private onsen. The accommodation is linked to a much larger hotel, where we were able to use the onsen and where dinner was held. I made a mistake with check out and they were very lovely about it. The matcha and sweet on arrival were very nice as well.

- Michael (9/5): great service though a little pricy. - service was good. food was really nice. room very comfortable. nice for a couple for a night. air conditioning did abnormal noise. had to have dinner in hotel next door (5 min walk). onsen facilities could be nicer though had good shampoos.
- Hang (10/5): - The staff are super nice and went above and beyond in helping us. The male housekeeper has excellence English and is very helpful. One of the best accommodations we had this year!
- Mattias (8/5): very pleasant Japanese guesthouse - The staff is very kind and helpful. we even got a free ride to the train station. Really recommend trying the private bath! nothing in particular.
- Graham (10/5): Fantastic Onsen in Yamanouchi - The hotel was exactly what we hoped for. It was traditional in style, had a range of bath options and looked fantastic. The room had plenty of space for two people and was stylish and warm. It was comfortable and the staff were very helpful and attentive but not at all intrusive. Our lack of Japanese was no issue for them or us. It was an easy walk to the Yadanaka train station and bus stop to the snow monkey park. The dinners and breakfasts were amazing. Nothing.
