Guest Reviews
- Rosa (10/5): It’s the most amazing home stay in Palangka Raya, I wouldn’t consider any other option. The place, the people, the food - Thank you for your amazing hospitality, it was a fantastic experience! Hope we can meet again :)
- Gerda (10/5): -
- Agnes (10/5): - I stayed two wonderful nights at this amazing guesthouse.
I was given a very warm welcome by Rizal. He helped me out really well with a taxi to and from the shopping center, and he also personally took me on his scooter to an ATM and a supermarket.
I also got to enjoy a delicious fresh breakfast and dinner. All in all, a great host and really worth staying here for at least two nights. The tree house is especially highly recommended. Nothing
- Yoshua (7/5): - I love the architecture and eco-friendly style property The service. I requested an airport pick up and they totally forgot about it. It's also very difficult to contact the management via call or messages.
- Jonna (10/5): -
- Jonna (10/5): -
- Margherita (10/5): - The strutture Is nice, very nice and comfortable
Dazu selbst gebackenes Brot - lecker!
- Brit (10/5): Great experience - The place, breakfast, bed The mosque at 4 am - like nowadays everywhere in Indonesia;)
- Ambre (10/5): Quiet safe haven 😊 - the food (especially breakfast) and outdoor communal facilities were outstanding! The hosts are very kind and accommodating. Extended my stay for two additional nights as it was so lovely!
- Brit (10/5): - Breakfast, bed, design of place The sound of the mosque at 4am - why? The host can not help that, just a pity for those who do not need that.
- Lasse (10/5): Our stay at Bukit Raya Guesthouse was truly special. Beatrice and Thomas took us on different trips in the area and even - Beatrice and Thomas, the owners of this beautiful place, were absolutely wonderful. They were incredibly helpful with everything and genuinely more interested in making sure we were comfortable and happy than in making money. Staying here felt a bit like coming home to our bonus grandparents Honestly, nothing. We only wish we could have stayed longer.
- Caroline (10/5): What a phenomenal time we had at the guesthouse! The property is stunning, with a comfy room that had everything we need - Everything- the room, the location, the property, the hosts, the breakfast, the tours.. they knocked it out of the park! It was all great!
- Valentine (10/5): Nature in the middle of the city ! - Bukit Raya GH is amazing, Thomas, Beatrice and Rizal were fantastic hosts from picking us up at the airport, to organising a day trip to meet with the orangutans everything was great! Breakfast is amazing (with homemade bread and yogurt), and we’ve also taken all our dinners there, it was delicious (we’ve never had such delicious tempeh before). We highly recommend BRGH for your stay in Palangkaraya!
- Gwen (10/5): A lovely experience in this stunning garden paradise accomodation - Exceptional garden and surroundings -created by the owners . Very friendly helpful family . Clean rooms and access to coffee tea there was nothing to fault except a minor issue with the shower
Alles top
- Tasha (10/5): - The hosts were amazing! 100% would recommend for anyone in the area. Facilities lovely, everything we need nothing
- Susan (10/5): Excellent. Highly recommended. Especially as it was prior to going to the Orangutan Sanctuary. - Everything, especially the friendliness, the welcome and the food. Rizal was wonderful - so helpful in arranging to pick up my case from the airport. The lighting in my room was rather dull.
- Aimee (9/5): - Very cool design and beautiful gardens.
- Kim (10/5): Beautiful, unique place to stay! - This is a beautiful property, with comfortable rooms surrounding an inner open area that is green with vegetation. There is even a small pool, complete with koi that can be swam in. The property has been designed exceptionally well and is quite unique. There is also a nice common sitting area, and a tasty breakfast with home-backed bread.
- Ann_op_reis (10/5): - It felt like home far away from home!
Very nice people. The guesthouse was made by the owner, so beautiful...
And great bread!
We can recommend Bukit Raya GH to everyone!
- sacha (8/5): - Heerlijk plekje, mooie tuin. Heerlijk relaxte plek
- Rachel (8/5): Perfect stay for a few nights - I loved the uniqueness of the property. The breakfast are delicious with freshly baked bread every morning. Depending on what time you’ve chosen to have it you could be on your own or with other guests. It’s a very social place. Love that the family live there too.
There is a pool but it does have fish in. Location was good for what I needed. Location is residential so there isn’t anything around - it’s not a negative just something to be aware of. You definitely need a scooter or to use a grab.
Again not a negative but worth noting, it’s just behind a church so music starts at 5.30am on a Sunday and you also hear the prayer for call through the week - but that’s a given throughout Indonesia I’ve found.
- Sabrina (9/5): Nature, Comfort, and Hospitality - It’s a wonderful place, perfect for spending a few days surrounded by nature while staying just steps away from the city’s services. It was a unique experience, marked by cultural exchange, nature, and connection. All enhanced by the genuine care the owners put into the place, the food, the cleanliness, and their warm hospitality.
- Cindy (10/5): Exceptional - Everything. Extremely wonderful hosts, outstanding atmosphere, great accommodation, delicious food with homemade bread and yoghurt for breakfast. Our tour was great and tailored to our wishes and interests with a great tour guide. The hosts went out of their way and even organized massages and had our laundry done. We were sad to leave and definitely recommend this homestay. It's a relaxing oasis but still close to the city center. Nothing.
- Ian (8/5): Very good -
- Lina (10/5): Wonderful hosts, delicious breakfast, comfortable and memorable - Everything, especially the breakfast. It was amazing. The host Rizal is very friendly and easy to talk with. His Papa was also incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about the city and Kalimantan in general. Comfortable and lovely environment, very peaceful and clean. There is honestly nothing not to like!
- Stefan (10/5): When you meet the right people at the right spot, travelling becomes pure joy! -
- Marcelle (10/5): Exceptional - The whole vibe is family like.
Very homey rules for thea, coffee and water. Home made yoghurt and bread!
Very friendly swiss couple who go out off their way to help you plan your trip. The garden with treehouse is extra nice .
The owner even took me on her motorbike to the Dayak market!
Nice that they have repellent everywhere and you can use it for free.
Upper sheet is a sarong which is very colurfull! Nothing
- Mohammed (4/5): A terrible night - Host and staff were good. The property is not actually looks like what we expect from photos . A little far from city . No shops near by . Road access also poor . There were lots of mosquitoes I couldn’t sleep at night . Also it was hot , no air condition inside room . I took shower three times in a night to beat the heat .
- Aurelien (9/5): Charming Place with very Kind and helpfull Manager - Rizal the caretaker is a very considerate and helpfull person that will make everything to make your stay comfortable
- David (10/5): A tropical oasis - A brilliant stay. This was by far the best accommodation that we had during our 30 day visit to Kalimantan. The building is amazing. It must be seen to be believed, the brain child of Thomas. The building is complimented by Beatrice's beautiful gardens. A real tropical paradise complete with fresh water pool. The family host you with warm friendship. Rizal cooks scrumptious meals including a fabulous healthy breakfast, that has home made yogurt, excellent home baked bread and home made jams. Rizal, son and manager, will also arrange well priced exciursions and help with onward travel which we very much appreciated. He was a great help.
There are areas for privacy and areas for relaxation.
We enjoyed our stay so much that we stayed on for an extra night. All good. No complaints.
- Jeroen (10/5): Excellent! - -Excellent staff, very helpfull
-Quiet & cozy place
-Very nice garden!
- Jeannette (9/5): Sanctuary of tranquility 🙏 - Delightful stay in the tranquility of the eco-friendly treehouse villa. Wonderful super attentive and friendly staff. Rizal was amazing! Super communicative and his service went above and beyond, proving great food and sightseeing recommendations but in particular it was his hospitality and incredible baking/cooking skills with delicious homemade bread, jams, yogurt and muesli for breakfast. His papa even helped us to the airport. We only had 2 days but it was a complete sanctuary and we were totally rejuvenated 💪 Highly recommend this secret garden and we’ll definitely stay longer next time. Loved it! ♥️ Nothing. The place is a magical retreat.
- Sven (10/5): I leave happy and with a lot of new experiences and wisdom - This place is amazing built so you are living in a micro climate within a little jungle. The swiss couple is living here since 30 years and can provide you with insights, you can find nowhere else. Rizal (director) and his team will make you feel at home but moreover help you out with all things from visiting the markets, museum, set up trips to the orang utans or help you find your lost phone. You will miss nothing, but more important you will get much more than you expect concerning exploring the real Kalimantan and dive into the culture. That I had to leave due to my flight : )
- Mohammed (10/5): Nice place to stay - We stayed here twice and tried two different rooms.
First we stayed in the tree house. The tree house is a brilliant bit of architecture but it's open. So there are no windows. Because of this you get a lot of mosquitoes. Also I would say only suitable for couples, not friends, because the shower isn't very private.
The standard room has a proper door and windows, a lot more mosquito proof. The room is lovely and half the price of the treehouse.
The whole layout of the hotel is brilliant and very comfortable and relaxing. You will enjoy your stay here.
The staff were great. Breakfast tasty. Issues with the treehouse room as mentioned above.
The staff seem to disappear at times and not easy to get ahold of. We have an issue with not having a mosquito net and couldn't find the staff - so I had to message the manager to text them. This could be our fault though as there was a language barrier and so it probably wasn't obvious to us how to find the staff if needed. The manager speaks good english and lives close by.
To get to most places you will need a motorbike as the hotel is a little far from the main town. The staff do allow you to rent their bike. Or you could use the Gojek app (Indonesian version of Uber).
- Mister (7/5): Original guesthouse with nice guest and host. - We loved the tree house, garden and the whole guesthouse. The vibe is nice. The treehouse was a bit rundown. It could do with a bit of maintenance. The staff spoke English very poorly which made it sometimes difficult to understand or get understood.
Only on the third day we found out for example you could order a egg at breakfast.
We thought there was a pool: it was more a pond with fishes. So no swimming.!
- Andrea (6/5): You get what you pay for. So value for money Rizal makes up for other shortcomings - Quirky property and must have been amazing when originally built. Very relaxing
Rizal was extremely helpful and accommodating Barely any water from the shower.
A bit far out to visit other places. Arrived in the dark and sadly I do not speak Indonesian. Felt quite uncomfortable as no explanations given where you could find drinking water, how to get hold of staff etc I was just showed to the room
- Elizabeth (8/5): An adventure, with lovely food and a good nights sleep. - Rizal could not have been more friendly and helpful; I slept really well. The home made bread, yorgurt were amazing at breakfast and my eggs were cooked to perfection. I walked to a lovely restaurant in the evening. The building was an amazing design but felt slightly run down, lots of ants in my bathroom.
- Petra (10/5): Lovely stay in a green oase, family owned. - Rainforest feeling, peaceful oasis and lovely people. Even the bread was homemade. Rizal made our stay unique with a lovely day trip we even saw 5 Orang Utans in the wild. Thank you
- Viktoria (10/5): Exceptional -
- Christopher (10/5): Great Guest House, kept natural and a perfect place to calm down. - Its a very beautiful Guest House. Located in a living area but inside the guest hosue you feel like in a Jungle. Everything is natural based and its a place to relax and calm. Your Host Rezal takes greatly care of you and supports with everything you need. I took a scooter to see Orang Utans on Kaja Island. Due to Rezals help it worked out fine!!!
I´d definetly stay here again. Home like atmosphere.
As it is a place whats kept natural, of course there might be a spider web here or there or you might encounter a frog in your open bathroom. Also there is no hot water at the shower but also thats not needed when booking such a place.
- Suzy (10/5): A guesthouse that feels like home - Bukit Raya Guesthouse is a truly beautiful place to stay. The gardens are stunning, perfect for relaxing in. I really liked my room it was clean, comfortable and had plenty of space for storing my belongings. Coming to palankaraya is about getting to know the real indonesia and bukit raya balances comfort and authenticity beautifully. The staff are kind and Rizel went out of his way to make me feel at home, he is genuinely warm and one of those people that makes your feel completely at ease. If you want something more than a soulless hotel and to be somewhere that feels like coming home or staying with good friends Bukit Raya Guesthouse should be top of your list. The distance from the central areas of town made it a little tricky for me to see the sights as I can't ride a moped. If you are like me this issue is easily resolved by getting a gojek, arranging a tour, or focusing on exploring the many varied and excellent coffee shops that are in easy walking distance.
- Rose (10/5): Exceptional -
- Matteo (7/5): Nice guesthouse with potential to become better - The young manager of the guesthouse was very friendly and available for tours. This is a unique place, but slightly more effort to make a special stay to the guests would make it exceptional. We booked the treehouse villa and paid around 60 USD for 2 people, but we expected a little more care of the room (at least have shampoo and shower gel, given the high price for Indonesian standards) and the breakfast was poor.
- Cristina (9/5): Superb - A great little paradise, quite room in a tropical garden. The house is comfortable and welcoming, very good breakfast.
Rizal is a very nice host. He organized everything for us, the orango tour in Kaya Island was full of Surprise and also the tour in Town in the night.
Thanks to Rizal we had a nice staying and visiting in Palangkaraya. Recommended if you come in this area.
- Hilary (9/5): Superb -
- Gina (10/5): one of its kind, certainly the best in the area, manager local Razil extremely helpful, a fun guy - home made bread for breakfast + Muesli +homemade yogurt
- Hilary (9/5): A delightful place to stay. - This is a really delightful place to stay - a bit of an oasis. We were fortunate enough to have the tree house and it was fabulous with some little touches that you would expect from a quality hotel. We only stayed one night and were taken out to eat in the city but other guests said there was an acceptable eatery within walking distance. Rizal's communications were excellent
- Hyatt (10/5): Magical tropical garden and pool - The staff and owners of the guesthouse are friendly and helpful, as well as very personable. The grounds are a magical garden of tropical plants. The best part is the natural pool that is some of the most refreshing swimming I have ever enjoyed. All this topped off with homemade bread and jams and yogurt for breakfast make this a place I hope to return to. I would suggest adding a soft lounge chair to the tree house up near the bed for relaxing.
- Alessandra (8/5): Very good - Very creative, chilling place. Traditional and confortable at the same time, staff was super nice and accommodating.
- Rory (9/5): Superb - Amazing hideaway with a secret garden. Beautiful buildings and extremely friendly hosts. A great place to stay and with a really cool story. Slightly out of the way but this wasn't really an issue
- Ronald (8/5): Very good -
- Anonymous (9/5): Beautiful hideaway to relax and do day trips from - It is a little hidden green paradise and a perfect place to relax. The natural pool is very refreshing and all the accommodation is made from wood which gives the place a very warm atmosphere.
- Nadege (9/5): Great stop after an oran-outan tour - What a great surroundings g if our bedroom « in the tree ».
Nice swimming pool Nothing
- Udit (7/5): Amazing staff, beautiful garden and the atmosphere outside, the room itself needs a makeover. - The people are very nice and welcoming. And also the garden outside is so peaceful, you can definitely spend an entire day in the garden. Rizal (the manager) also let me check-in early at 7 am as the room was available, and one can also rent a scooter from them (these two are actually the major reasons why I chose to live here). The breakfast is nice too (but not something exceptional, just homemade bread, mueselli, and boiled eggs). The room is very sub-standard. I think the prices are easily 20-30% higher for the facilities provided in the room. I understand that the property type is more like a "close to nature" concept, but I think some things definitely need a makeover (for example, the toilet flush stopped working at night. This is something very basic that should be checked and even replaced).
- Petr (10/5): Exceptional - We felt, like at home right from the start. The owner and the staff took good care of us. They helped us with everything we needed. Special thanks to Rizal for the guide tips and great homemade bread. We admired the exotic garden with native plants, which is looked after by the very interesting and wise Mrs. Beatrice. thanks for everything P & L
- Antoaneta (10/5): Hidden gem - It's a hidden gem in the middle of the city.
A mini jungle paradise.
The breakfast was great European one with home made bread and fresh fruit.
Animals in the garden.
Very friendly and generous owners.
They even drove me to the shop to buy boots because I needed them (first offered to borrow me some if ones they have fit me). Not all staff knew English and the staff that knew was not often there so I had hard time asking if I need something. (I was still able to always call by phone the ones who knew so I solved the things that way).
In the booking description I saw that the owners know the place and can provide you with tips to plan your travel there, that's why I chose the place, however, I didn't get a chance to talk with the owner on this issue. He was almost never there or rushing in doing something.
I guess I came in a rush hour for them.
- Daniela (9/5): Beautiful experience in a unique setting. A little private forest to enjoy with very nice people. - I really liked the atmosphere relaxed and informal. Rizal, the manager, is very welcoming and helpful. He also makes most of the food they provide for breakfast which is super good and healthy. The guesthouse is very clean and well maintained. Plenty of little corners where to have your privacy and relax. Just a more comfortable mattress, at least in my room, number 5.
- Peter (1/5): Backpack lodge charging five star rates disgusting. - The manager was friendly and very helpful. Everything else. No air conditioning. Breakfast was a slice of bread and an egg. The swimming pool is a fishpond. No lunch or dinner available and nearest restaurants over a kilometre away. It is charging five star hotel rates for a backpacking lodge.
- Malgorzata (8/5): Very good - It is our second stay here. We like the informal atmosphere and nice tropical garden in the middle of the guesthouse. Also the area is relatively quiet. We loved sitting on a balcony in our room. The staff did not speak any English or other languages so the communication was difficult on the first day but the following day the manager has arrived and was able to sort things out for us
- Aliza (10/5): A great base to explore Palangka Raya and the area - If you are interested in staying in a really unique place and not in a regular hotel, this is the place for you.
The location itself is amazing, you feel as if you are in the middle of the rainforest. The rooms are simple but very appealing and comfortable. the freshwater swimming pool is not big but so refreshing and intimate. The roof garden has a magnificent view of sunset over the city. The breakfast is not big but has great home made ingredients. The place is just like a small paradise. We also loved the staff and their attitude. Rizal is very helpful and knowledgeable and will be able to help you. Highly recommended!
- Cintafontane (9/5): Beautiful place to relax - We love everything. The room is very comfortable and beautiful. The service is very good, they are attentive while being respectful. And the highlight for us was breakfast, with Greek yogurt, granola and homemade bread. We would definitely stay there again Just as a suggestion it would be nice to have some bikes available to guests. Since it is not very close to restaurants or shops and that would make it very easy to explore the area.
- Bart (9/5): Relaxing stay near the natural park in a nice atmosphere - Rizal was acting as a perfect host. Always trying to help us out when we had questions or requests. And showing us the way to the local coffee shop.
The garden was beautiful and full of life.
We could appreciate the way they treat their staff (or friends as they call them). Not all of them speak English, but the key persons do, so it was no problem. Not easy to find nice dinner in the evening in the area.
- Aguado (10/5): Exceptional -
- Inta (8/5): Very good -
- Bart (5/5): Overrated at booking.com - The girls who work here are very friendly Not very well maintained.
Dark and no atmosphere.
The male manager is not very nice.
- Anna (8/5): Very good -
- Larisa (10/5): Magical jungle hideaway in the city - A beautiful little patch of jungle paradise in the middle of a city. They have a treehouse room that looked beautiful but was beyond our budget, a koi pond you can swim in, a giant swing, and the manager was so lovely and helpful and took us out to see some Dayak performances. A truly magical place to stay. Booking.com needs to work on notifying properties about bookings made on the day of check in.
- Francesco (9/5): Superb -
- Anneke (8/5): Very good - beautiful garden, lovely people and home made bread
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good - Lumayan bagus untuk yg standar double, untuk kolam ternyata bercampur dgn ikan. Jd antara bs berenang atau tidak.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We loved our stay at Bukit Raya Guesthouse. It is a very relaxed atmosphere with a beautiful garden. It's not far to walk into the center of town.
One night
- Ami (10/5): Nice Hotel close to the Nature - Nice Hotel, Quite Place and Nature experience. Very recommended Hotel, if you come to Palangka Raya. Visit Palangka Raya
- Van (10/5): Bukit Raya Stay - Great! - Really unique and special place, with lovely hosts and staff, and a great place to explore central Kalimantan from. Some really good restaurants nearby too! Coming back next year
- Andrew (10/5): Unique and peaceful - A VERY unique and comfortable one night stay before we headed onto the 3 day orangutan jungle cruise. This place was personally built like a robinson caruso-like habitat. Room was clean, comfortable, a.c., quiet (aside from local mosque prayer broadcast), and the clientele were interesting world travelers. Great home made Meals were available as well upon request. Neighborhood had nothing to offer tourists, but we were VERY content to enjoy the peaceful ambiance of the establishment. Small dipping pool and reading area were peaceful and enjoyable. Owners were not there, but the staff was friendly and helpful. HIGHLY recommended as a staging hang for nearby orangutan park boat trip.
