- Helena (9/5): Superb -
- Cullinane (8/5): Wonderful hosts, amazingly diverse menu and great nights stay - would definitely love to go again! - We stayed in the Shepherds hut. Perfect amenities, everything you needed. Excellent nights sleep. Pub very charming. Nothing

- James (8/5): Very good -
- O'brien (8/5): Very good -
- Lock (8/5): Very good -
- Gill (7/5): Friendly, ideal location - Location A little tired in places
- Tracey (8/5): A great location, lovely owners and members of staff, with comfortable accommodation. - The Breakfast was excellent, served in the Strickland Pub. A lovely traditional pub with lovely owners. We stayed in the Lodge overlooking the car park. The bed was very comfortable and everything was very clean. The only thing we feel could have been prepared better for our arrival was that the Lodge was very cold inside and once we switched all the radiators on, it took quite a while to take the chill of the place.
- Bill (10/5): Top pub stay at the Strickland Arms - Attractive old pub in rural Cumbria in a small, quiet village. Through traffic is low including tractors and trailers in farming country. Both evenings (early July) we sat outside to eat. Plenty of free parking within the pub grounds. Excellent hosts Anton and Penny employ friendly, efficient and attentive staff. The food menu is wide ranging. We ate very well. The food is more than just pub food. It is beautifully presented and is delicious. I especially enjoyed the haddock with new potatoes and mixed veg. The “Three Dads” cask beer is well kept. I highly recommend the Strickland Arms with its two bedrooms and a variety of wood panelled yurts and a shepherd’s cottage. Be careful indoors. The passageway downstairs is dark until you find the light switch.
- Robert (8/5): Definitely a “must”. If you like the atmosphere of “good old days “, friendly people who care about the details, then st - A place with a “soul”. Old building, well maintained (for it’s age). Charming wee hotel, in a lovely village, in the gateway to Lake District. The room was better photographed then it is in reality. Bit small, but in the past , the standard was a bit different. ;-)
- Heather (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anonymous (8/5): Comfortable and welcoming. - Breakfast and location was great. The door key was a little odd to use. Strange lock.
- Lindy (8/5): Very good -
- Mike (9/5): The best full English you’ll ever be served! - Really friendly staff and absolutely lovely breakfast. The proprietors take great pride in serving their customers, and Anton is very proud of the food that his wife produces and serves. Rightly so, because it is great, traditional, fare. It’s a really friendly and welcoming place. Like almost all small hotels in this part of the world serving the walking/cycling/motorcycling fraternity, the accommodation has all you need but don’t expect the emphasis to be on up-to-the-minute facilities, fresh decor, etc. it’s perfectly adequate and they put their emphasis elsewhere, especially in serving great food!
- Waites (10/5): Biker group stay - Excellently presented accommodation. Pub was fabulous and reasonably priced! Food was amazing. Nothing to change
- Rwo31 (10/5): Exceptional - Found this place on the Internet whilst searching for our annual trip. After reading so many positive reviews I booked. Upon arrival we could see it was exactly what it said on the tin. Management and staff really friendly, welcoming and attentive. Accommodation, bar and dining area inviting and comfortable. Breakfast and evening meals second to none. Definitely no doubt about it we will be back DV. Best regards to all Anton! Nothing not to like!!

- Kp (9/5): Great experience - Great location in the village, friendly staff and locals.
We stayed in an yurt style place which was a new experience, a bit quirky.
It was clean, great shower pressure, a little chilly (Mid October), comfortable beds.
Sheets smelt a little musky that’s all.
Great food at the pub for dinner and breakfast. The musky smell of the linen.

- Nicola (10/5): Exceptional -
- Clare (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nicolas (8/5): Comfortable stay, excellent food and dog friendly. Easy access to the Lakes. I’d go back! - Traditional old pub in a great location a stone’s throw away from Lowther Castle - excellent for dog walking. Excellent food and great selection of beers and spirits, friendly welcoming staff. Lovely rooms inside and rustic log huts outside. The bed was very comfortable. I’d definitely go back! The rear outside area could do with a little TLC - flowers/dedicated dog area to give the building a bit more kerb appeal as it’s incredibly interesting.
The room kettle was cheap and tasted horrible.
The radio was too quiet in the breakfast area - more ambiance needed.
Lack of board games in the pub.
- White (9/5): We enjoyed talking with Anton during breakfast. He gave us a lovely travel tip to see Lowther Castle - Breakfast was delicious with high quality ingredients! Dinner was worth waiting for. The cottage pie was my daughter's favorite meal on our trip.

- Samantha (9/5): Great little find - If I could have fitted the bed in the car I would have brought it home. Our room was large and well appointed and the bed, as I say, was incredibly comfortable.
We missed dinner service but they did offer to cook us something which was very kind. The bar offered good beer and the staff were great. Breakfast was delicious and used great local produce.
Plenty of on-site parking.
- Ann (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anthony (10/5): Fantastic hosts - Very clean and comfortable

- Louise (6/5): Pleasant - Anton and Penny are lovely Just needs a bit of an investment and revamp to bring some life back into it
- Rachel (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent breakfast, warm welcome. Worth having dinner at the pub - get a pie! We were cosy in the shepherds hut and it worked really well for us as a stop on the drive back from the Highlands.
- Harriet (8/5): Went away for 24 hours - felt like a week because it was so relaxing and a break from the norm. - Anton and Penny are perfect hosts. The food is very good. The beds are super comfortable. It’s a relaxing break. Great place to stay if visiting Wild Haweswater for badger watching.
- Mary (8/5): Lovely stay lovely staff Thank you - Lovely staff and location. The wooden pods were very big ! Breakfast was brilliant! The areas around the outdoor rooms was very unkempt and needs tidying up - not very safe? The bathroom on the room was very basic and seemed like it wasn’t finished and the room could have been a bit cleaner.
- Jonathan (9/5): Superb -
- Julia (10/5): Exceptional - Extremely comfy bed and great wifi in the hut Nothing
- Angie (9/5): Superb -
- Heather (4/5): Unwelcoming poor service - The accommodation was good however the outside area needs a clean and tidy. We found the staff to be very disorganised and not really know what they were doing. We asked if we could have breakfast at 7.30 am to which they said no but offered us pastires and cereal. When we went into the pub in the evening the girl behind the bar said she would get our pastries we said we would collect them on our way out but still she delivered them to our table in a brown paper bag when we were having a drink with another couple. Then at about 9.45 pm we were asked if we would move tables as they wanted to set up for breakfast! Which came across very rude.
We didn't feel very welcome on our stay and were very disappointed with the service we received. We won't be staying here again.
- Kathryn (9/5): Great overnight stay, excellent food and very dog friendly. - Excellent home cooked evening meal and breakfast, with a very welcoming and accommodating host in Anton

- Ian (9/5): Overall, great stay. - Breakfast excellent Didn’t realise we should have been provided with a tea/coffee/milk pack upon arrival, which we didn’t receive.
