Guest Reviews

- Jenny (10/5): Fantastic value - Good value for money. Bar/food prices are very reasonable. Food was good quality. Staff, especially Heidi, were fantastic. We were made to feel welcome by the locals, great atmosphere. The room was a decent size, large bathroom with very hot water!
We stayed on Saturday night and were informed of the late disco that goes on till 3.00am before the cancellation time and asked to confirm we had read the email. To be fair, we didn't really hear the music. Only the people outside, which didn't stop us from sleeping though.
Will definitely stay there again. The bed only had 1 bedside table, could have done with 1 each side.
The early checkout of 10.00am. Most hotels are 11.00am or later
- Rukhsana (3/5): Uncomfortable - Breakfast was good value The hotel is very tired looking
Lots of disturbance during the night
Bed was so uncomfortable

- Sebastian (7/5): -
- Jaycock (4/5): The Good, The Bad, and The Noisy. - Food and drink was good. Bed was comfy, room size was good. The decor was shabby, furniture was dated, carpeted area leading to rooms was in a terrible condition.
There was no heating, and due to the weather, that would have been nice. Especially as single glazed windows were drafty, some were cracked.
The worst thing of all, was that on Friday and Saturday nights, there is a disco which goes on until 03:00 in the morning. IF we had known in advance, we would not have booked this hotel, to be fair the Manager had messaged me to inform me of the disco, but this was after we had booked and paid for the room, and as it states on the website, fees were NON refundable, so we just put up with it.

- tracy (3/5): Stayed for a course near by - Location good, bed comfy. Good to have a bath Room very dated and need of decoration, bathroom smelt of weed at times, shouldn't be classed asxa hotel just a public house with rooms. Breakfast could be improved. Wouldn't stay here again.
- Guy (8/5): Very good in all respects. - Didn't have breakfast. Location good. N/A.
- David (5/5): -
- Mihai (2/5): :( - Absolutely nothing. If you have children, please find another place to stay.
The music was so loud, and it went on until after 2, people smoking outside the window and you can smell it all. Definitely not for families with young children.
- Stephen (7/5): Pleasant place to stay. - This is an older hotel, but it was clean and comfortable. The staff very cheerful and helpful. The room was quiet and clean enough for its age. There was ample free parking behing the hotel.
- Scott (1/5): Terrible stay - Nothing
The state of the hotel was awful
Blood in the walls and mattress
- Anonymous (7/5): Good -
- Harry (8/5): Very good -
- Sallyann (8/5): Very good -
- Philsmith1164 (5/5): Don’t! - After being visibly pissed off with me for a misunderstanding over our reservation, the bar girl let us put our cycles in a storeroom. Thankyou for that! Not enough space here to say, just take my word for it. Maybe the turd in our en-suite toilet as a welcome gift was a bad start. The barmaid and the locals taking the piss out of us also didn’t help! WORST place I have ever stayed in.
- Anonymous (10/5): Really positive experience, great people. - All the staff and locals were very friendly and helpful. It was very affordable. Bedroom had everything you need.
- Julia (7/5): Good - Good sized room, comfy bed. Polite & helpful staff. Basic pub food menu well delivered - hot & tasty. Parking. Mid week - very quiet. Scruffy decor - but not a problem.
- David (7/5): Good -
- Ebere (3/5): Fair - The location The bed wasn't comfortable, the staff weren't friendly and flexible to yours needs,. and houseman ship is poor
- David (9/5): Superb - Even thou it's party time on Saturday night I had the TV just right I was a very happy customer can't find a fault and brilliant on the budget quality at an excellent value and thanks to all the staff that were great warm and made welcome All good 👍
- Tim (8/5): Good value and friendly - A good value, clean room with no frills, easy parking and friendly staff.. A budget price so happy with basic facilities.
- Stephen (9/5): Overall a very enjoyable stay. - The location was great for me as I was meeting relations who live in Chard. The bedroom, bar and facilities were clean and tidy. Breakfast was cooked to order daily and plentiful. The evening meals arrived promptly and were hot. Both very tasty.
The staff were also very friendly and helpful.
- Antony (5/5): Unfortunately not great, ok for overnight stay. - Was overnight stay, arrived late. Convenient Room was above entrance to inn/pub where smokers gathered....noisy.
Mattress springs probably broken, as one side of bed sunken. Bathroom could do with decorating and maybe need blinds.
- Jonathan (9/5): Superb -
- Gavin (7/5): A great value place to stay in an ideal location - The room was freshly decorated, clean and tidy with comfy beds. The downstairs bar had plenty of choice at good prices. The breakfast was excellent and staff really friendly. The early road noise from the milk tankers and seagulls was somewhat annoying and the curtains let in a lot light.
- Ann (5/5): It was very cold - Breakfast was lovely and person looking after us and who actually cooked it was very kind and helpful The room was absolutely freezing cold in the evening. We had to keep our coats on all the time we were there. Even though it was a Monday evening the music was incredibly loud in the bari..
- Sian (8/5): Cheap and cheerful - Comfy bed, dated but clean, staff friendly, breakfast was delicious and included in price. Also had Sky TV, free wifi & tea/coffee making facilities in room. We stayed on a Saturday night and were contacted by management to advise about live music until early hours, it wasn't as loud as we expected and didn't disturb us much at all. Great price and central location too!
- Isabella (8/5): Had a good stay and will return. - Room was clean and beds comfortable. Staff friendly and helpful. Good food.
- Jeff (5/5): Budget hotel,Fair price,Great breakfast, Staff are helpful but need to be trained better. - Breakfast was great,Chef and staff in kitchen/bar was very helpful. Very disorganised check in,Nobody seemed to know where the key for our room was,if breakfast was included etc.Asked 3 people about breakfast and they said we should just turn up ,So we did Bedroom was tired and badly needed upgrading.
- Paul (4/5): Disappointing - Good breakfast Very tired décor
- Michelle (10/5): Exceptional -
- Robin (4/5): Very dissapointing - The overworked lady behind the bar trying to do 10 jobs. A tired old mattress, shower that only just worked and a cold noisy room
- Anna (10/5): Exceptional - We will Definitely come again really nice and chilled
- Julian (6/5): Pleasant - Paid for breakfast but didn't get breakfast as the chef was late.
- Michelle (10/5): Exceptional -
- Errington (7/5): Good -
- Alexander (2/5): Not very good ..freezing stay as no boiler working - Landlord was pleasant and his staff Sadly no heating on a cold stormy night and windy whistling through very flimsy doors in room ..it was extremely cold during the night ..they should have advised the boiler wasn't working prior to arrival which they didn't... Room was clean and beds and breakfast was good. Landlord obviously tries hard to keep a hotel/inn service but I'm afraid it isn't working people expect more for their money now
- Pamela (3/5): Poor - Breakfast was very good. Heating and hot water wasn't working
- Rebecca (8/5): Great little pub in a usually untraveled town but we’ll worth a stay in a true English pub - The location was brilliant. Right in the centre of a cute little town. The staff were absolutely lovely and the included breakfast was huge They let you know, which is much appreciated, that on certain nights there is a live DJ and it will be loud. It was much louder than we anticipated but a pair of earplugs fixed it
- Lines (7/5): Good -
- Ian (9/5): Staff very friendly and helpful, food lovely - Great position in the town Nice large bedroom but would have benefited from a fridge
- Steven (9/5): Superb -
- Chesswess (6/5): Pleasant -
- Lee (9/5): Good basic value for money, with a good bar too. - The price was good the room was a good size and everything worked. Slow checking in.
- Christopher (10/5): Perfect breakfast and dinner. Very friendly hosts - The breakfast was superb. The bed was presumably of a high quality when new but could perhaps be renewed now, although we slept better than we initially thought we would when we first sat on it.
- Anthony (10/5): Exceptional -
- Stephen (4/5): Disappointing -
- Brian (1/5): It would have been quieter in Beirut - Breakfast only See 7 polices cars turning up to arest some people, screaming and shouting outside my window at 4 am in the morning
- Simone (10/5): Exceptional - Breakfast was awesome .
- Tanya (7/5): Loved all the staff Had a really fun night The breakfast was yummy - The staff were all very welcoming The pub was amazing with all friendly people It does need painting up
- Gareth (8/5): A good break from home - The breakfast was excellent. We also had a meal one evening and were amazed by how cheap it was. There weree quite a lot of stairs, and the floors looked like they might slope a bit.
- Hilary (8/5): The hotel was value for money and the staff friendly - Breakfast was good and the staff efficient and friendly.
- Belinda (5/5): Was ok - Breakfast good
Location very good Drab colour in hallway
Rattling fan in bathroom
Could brighten up bedtoom, remove drab brown curtains, brighten room and have colorful pictures on wall.
Tired looking because of drab paint colour.
- Mark (8/5): Very good - Location and breakfast Bathroom
- Richard (7/5): Good -
- Roger (5/5): Cheap and cheerful, I got what I paid for and no more - Friendly staff and a lively down to earth atmosphere Having breakfast with staff cleaning around you. Poor bathroom fixtures and fittings and very noisy and probably defective extractor fan. Overall scruffiness.
- Stephen (8/5): Excellent and would certainly recommend to family and firends - The location couldn't have been better and the various breakfast options were very good and cooked to order. My bedroom was well appointed with ample supplies of towels, toiletries and bedding. The bed was comfortable, too, resulting in a good night's sleep. Nothing really
- John (6/5): okay - good breakfast dont go at weekend if you like peace and quiet
- Philip (7/5): Good - Breakfast was good. No bedside table. Lighting was dim.
- Katherine (10/5): The staff went out of their way to make us feel comfortable - The hotel is very central, lovely and clean. The staff were very welcoming and very accommodating and the breakfast chef was just what you need with a slight hangover. Would def stay again! 😊
- Alice (1/5): The worst place I've ever stayed. - There was nothing good about this hotel. I wouldn't recommend that anyone stay there unless they want to be kept awake until 3am with drunk people shouting. The rooms were very old and not clean. The bed sheets were dirty and there was blood on the curtains. There was music advertised on a Friday and Saturday night but what wasn't advertised was the number of drunk people who would be shouting outside the bedroom windows until 3am.
- Jade (7/5): Very close to town clean & tidy - Nice clean bedroom clean hotel chef was lovely and came in early saturday so we could have breakfast before we had to be out to an event for the day
Evening music was good but load
- Steve (9/5): Superb -
- Jamesdavis01 (1/5): Bad -
- Smith (10/5): Exceptional -
- Knight (6/5): Ok best bit was the excellent hot breakfast it was really delicious - The room was clean The carpets need a deep clean nowhere to put your items in bathroom. I nearly fell off the toilet seat as it was loose
- Filgona (1/5): We didn’t enjoy the stay at all, on our first stay the window was broken so we couldn’t shut it, this is after a night s - Nothing On our first day the window wasn’t working so we had to sleep with the windows open after a night shift, mind you the hotel in the main street do could hear all the noise and the heating wasn’t working
The whole hotel had a funny smell with very outdated decor
No lift available
The beds were very uncomfortable
It was a very poor value for money and would not recommend it
- Zan (1/5): Very bad never see same thing like this - Nothing Was very dirty supposed to be close for people
- Jade (1/5): Would not return - Food was nice Checked in and got the keys to our room. Walked up to our room the door was left open and dirty from previous people staying. Dog food was on the floor so had to wait for room to be clean. We left a day earlier then we was suppose to.
- Freddy (1/5): Will never stay there again unfortunately - Yh staff was really nice The beds were horrendous I felt the spring in my back, the shower had no power at all, the door on our balcony had a broken bottom lock allowing cold air and rain getting into the room
- Billy (9/5): Superb -
- Tim (1/5): Bad - Nothing at all.. was a disaster of a place. Was greeted with there's your key your rooms upstairs. Not told about check out or breakfast times..We were not told about the late night dj who played loud dance music till 2am and was just below our window which was single pane glass. We were then inundated with loud screaming swearing and shouting and fighting outside the hotel. This went on for a further 1hr 30 minutes. At this point it was now 3.30am and no sleep. We both finally got an hour of sleep and the morning staff Came on shift and stood below our window and were having full on loud conversations which woke both myself and my partner. Wouldn't recommend staying at this establishment at all. I will be seeking a full refund.
- Paula (5/5): bizarre - bed and shower no tv signal
very load town clock chiming every 15 minutes
providing breakfast was a surprise to staff - seemed like they had never had to do it before and i was the only guest
- Barlow (8/5): Comfortable well coming great price for drinks and food - Was a fantastic hotel staff very friendly fantastic food breakfast was amazing Shower warmer
- Ruth (7/5): Good - Right in the middle of town. Don't go on Friday and Saturday if you don't like loud music. Didn't get to sleep till after 4 as talking and shouting outside our window.
- Rob (7/5): Good -
- Gomes (9/5): Superb -
- Sian (1/5): Worst 3 nights of my life! Checked out 3 nights early! - Terrible doesn’t even come close to explaining the property Everything
- Laurence (10/5): Fantastic - Great value for money Nothing
- Sebastian (7/5): Good -
- Kim (7/5): Good - Didn't get up for breakfast
- Allan (9/5): A good place to stay if visiting Chard or using it as a staging post for further trips. - Very well located on main street close to the bus stops and facilities. Hearty breakfast cooked on request, local foods. On bus routes to Axminster and Lyme Regis which can be visited in one day. Tea and coffee provided in room. Located just across street from Guildhall clock which tells the hour and quarters, hard to sleep.
- Mark (7/5): Value for money - Very friendly staff, great breakfast and rooms where comfy and nice. Great location as only about 7 min drive from my daughter who I was visiting .. rooms had tea and coffee and sky TV that works.. Good value for money It was very loud which we was made aware of but I wasn't expecting it to be that loud. . AT 3am when disco finished all the people hung around outside the pub which was right infront of our room making alot of noise and people doing wheel spins and doughnuts in a car... Please be aware that if your travelling with a child they are not aloud down in the bar area after 9, I was with my mum and 14 year old nephew and was enjoying a game of darts but had to go to our room as he wasn't aloud to stay after 9pm ..
- Michelle (9/5): Superb -
- Annabelle (7/5): Good -
- Nigel (10/5): We keep going back and will keep doing - Traditional pub was so refreshing Nothing
- Lynzy (8/5): Very good -
- Anita (10/5): A value for money hotel where you get a good night's sleep! - Easy to locate and free parking on site. Staff were very friendly and helpful and check in was very quick. Nothing!
- Tracey (10/5): Exceptional -
- Vicky (7/5): Convenient and central - Central Nothing g
- Mark (2/5): Very poor -
- Tony (1/5): Stay somewhere else. HAYMAKERS for same price. - Bed comfortable and bath big enough with plenty hot water. Decor dirty and in desperate need of redecoration. Carpets leading to bedroom dirty. Was advised that loud noise friday and Saturday but wasnt told that our mid stay would include noise from regulars smoking outside and close to our bedroom, smoky room and noise till past 12 at night. Could hear laughing and everyones conversation whilst trying to have a good nights sleep, which ended with us checking out earlier even though we had paid for 2 nights stay. Wouldnt stay again glad we left. Should be classed as a 1 star or below.
- Roger (4/5): Served its purpose - Breakfast was mediocre.
I ate alone hotel was deserted.
I thought the whole place was generally a little grubby.
I feel with a little work it could be excellent. Cleaned and tidied. The stair carpet was patched.
- Philip (7/5): good value -
- Ian (6/5): Pleasant - room and bathroom good, breakfast and staff very good;;very noisy until after 1am outside smoking and drinking
- Carla (9/5): Superb -
