Debbie (10/5): This is a beautiful property and would definitely stay here again as well as recommend. - The location was perfect! We brought our car so it was great having a dedicated parking spot with name on it. The grounds were beautiful; enjoyed the fire pit and outdoor seating area. The hotel decor was bright and modern. Everything was well maintained and clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast options were very good and convenient. Coffee and filtered water were available 24/7 and loved that they had ice coffee available too. The afternoon freshly baked chocolate chip cookies were so yummy. Overall, we were extremely pleased with our stay! The room although beautiful was on the small side. The bureau took up a lot space so the clearance between the bed and bureau was narrow. A slimmer bureau would fit better or options for storage that better accommodate the room design should be considered.

We loved our room which was very spacious and had access to a lovely outdoor area including a fire pit which was great in the evening. Very impressed with breakfast which fully catered for one of our party with a dairy allergy - lots of choice which isn't always the case in our experience of hotels.

Deidre (10/5): The staff and breakfast were absolutely fantastic and delightful! - The property was very quaint, well maintained and centrally located. The stairs were steep to go up to the second floor. My elderly mother would not have been able to climb the stairs if she were with me. There was not an elevator.
Jay (10/5): - Everything about The Richard was great. We really enjoyed our stay there. The location is perfect just on the edge of the center of town. Walking distance to everything, the bus stop right around the corner but the hotel was peaceful and quiet. Breakfast was excellent every morning, healthy and plenty to choose from. The best part was Sofia, she greeted us upon checking in and brought us to our room and was helpful with everything we need. She was just a perfect representative of the hotel and set the tone for a relaxing and enjoyable stay.

William (10/5): - This is a beautiful property in an old whaling captains mansion. The room, the products, the linens, towels, pillows etc were all excellent quality. The morning coffe and breakfast service was exceptional with fresh, quality options and presentation. Obviously there are alwatys some challenges when staying at such on old/historic property (steep, narrow stairways, fewer electrical outlets, etc.) but those minor inconveniences were really no bother in context of the quality of the hotel and its service.

The grounds are kept in immaculate shape and the property is all kept in meticulous condition. The breakfasts are perfect and many of the offerings are baked on the premises. I would highly recommend this property for any stay in Edgartown.

Diane (7/5): Very nice stay with a wonderful staff but limited amenities - The location was good... a nice little walk to the center to Edgartown and it's gorgeous harbor. The decor was lovely... the structure was typically New England in the best way possible. ,...contemporary and clean. The staff was terrific...super friendly, helpful, and endearing. The Continental breakfast was fine! The rooms were noisy being that it's an old building with thin walls and doors. My room was small, the bed was soft with mushy pillows ...outstanding bedding and linens! Also, this room was overlooking a gorgeous garden with a fire pit and stunning seating, However, there were three streets that merged outside the windows.... it got noisy... lots of traffic sounds. ... We ended up being FINe with parking but be aware that it costs $50 a night for reserved spaces.

Staff were fantastic - very warm and friendly. And the patio and front porch were perfect places to sit a spell. Room was a little small, but given that it was an inn, that wasn’t entirely unexpected. Also could hear the barn door closet next door rolling open and shut! Was disappointed that we had to pay $50 a night to park put car. There were only 2 cars in the lot so there was not a shortage..,
Maria (10/5): A piece of heaven in Edgartown! - June 12 2025 A sunny and cool afternoon . I arrived half past 12 at The Richard. The scrumptious aroma of cookies filled the reception area , instantly transporting me home on weekends ! Then came out from the kitchen Ms. Kate,who extended a warm and enthusiastic reception. She said- " Your room is ready". She allowed me to check in early ! To my delight ! Helped me with my luggage upstairs. The room smelled clean and spotless, decor was contemporary cosmopolitan . Bedroom / bathroom has all the modern amenities ( although the building was vintage). I was tempted to take a nap, but then I was famished. I asked Kate for reco, and oh boy ! 19 Raw Oyster Bar was a pleasant surprise! It was just a block away from The Richard. Impeccable service and great food ! Going back now to the Richard- there's an outdoor courtyard with fire pit and comfy lounge sofa around, a nice touch to after dinner long conversation or simply seat there for peace and quiet. And a front porch with rocking chairs to people watch or read or relax. The Richard being in the mainstreet, restaurants , shops and everything in between are just a stroll away. Talking about shopping- almost all the shops have curated items that will make you regret shopping elsewhere. Which brings me to Ms. Ellen, at The Richard , who helped me solve my problem of needing 1 luggage to stash away my shopping haul! Surprisingly, there's not one shop selling luggage in Martha's Vineyard ! But Ms. Ellen was so kind enough to offer her own luggage ! She's a darling ! We wanted to do a photo shoot ( best friends celebrating 4 decades of friendship) she found us one professional photographer within the day ! Felt like there is nothing Ms. Ellen can't solve ! Always in her calm and composed demeanor. I've been travelling for the past 40 years. The Richard is on the top of the list of best stays/experiences ever ! Kudos to Ms. Ellen and her team- Ms. Kate and Ms. Nothing

Kalila (10/5): - This quaint property will be a memorable stay. Mostly for the kindness of Ellen, the property manager upon arrival. We had a lovely chat about her history with the property, she checked me in early and even went up before i did to make sure it was ready. I accidentally had her take my bag up that had my purse (license, credit card) but she allowed me to check in without it, no biggie. Wow. The property is very cute. No frills inside, but there is 24 hour coffee and tea, a little breakfast lounge.. freshly baked cookies set out in the afternoon. Outdoor courtyard is lovely with the fire pit table and loungers. I had the balcony room, which overlooks the courtyard. That will be the room i choose whenever i stay here (because there will be a next time). Conveniently located just a couple of blocks from shopping and dining and a less-than-5min walk to the bus stop! Wonderful!

Stephanie (10/5): Amazing stay, would recommend this hotel to anyone going to Martha’s - The manager Ellen was amazing, we appreciated her promptness, attention to our booking, and the room we were provided exceeded expectations. The breakfast was delicious, her Chia pudding is noteworthy and I will be making that as soon as I get home. Can’t go wrong with this property. I don’t think we had any complaints, maybe that we forgot/ didn’t realize we had a mini fridge until second night there.

Kaitlyn is a true gem, such a wonderful young lady, extremely helpful and she gave us a list of places to experience while visiting. Would stay again in a heartbeat.

Nancy (9/5): Lovely inn within easy walking distance from town. - It was a pretty small inn within easy walking distance of downtown. The gardens in the back area were lovely and peaceful with plenty of places to sit and relax. Included an outdoor fireplace. Kaitlyn was a terrific front desk host, provider of a simple but ample breakfast buffet and an all-around welcoming and charming manager. Our only complaint was the noise level in the ground floor rooms. The upstairs rooms need to be carpeted.

Alexa (10/5): Great hotel in the heart of Edgartown - The hotel was lovely. The staff was very friendly and went above and beyond. They had everything you could think of, such as beach chairs and towels, extra hangers in the closet, very nice shower products, and refillable glass water bottles. The breakfast each morning was very good, and there was always water, coffee, and juice available.

Lashica (10/5): A Hidden Gem Tucked away on Main Street - The Richard was conveniently located close to everything in Edgartown. The harbor was a 10 minute walk while the lighthouse was a 17 minute walk. There were eateries on every block with numerous shops as well. The front desk staff was great. They assisted me with a taxi to Oak Bluffs when Lyft was taking entirely too long. The main doors were locked at night and a code was required for entry which gave me peace of mind. I stayed on the first floor in Room 4 and my bathroom was very spacious. They had a keurig area by the front desk with a variety of stocked teas and coffee. For breakfast, they provided a continental style breakfast from. 7-9 am. I will definitely stay here again!!

sheree (10/5): Beautiful hotel and stellar hospitality. - This well appointed boutique hotel was one the highlights of my three-day trip to the island. I have been to MV many times, but this felt like a piece of serene luxury - exactly my personal vibe. It was centrally located in Edgartown and I was able to walk to most of my day and evening destinations. The Richard had been on my list of hotels to stay at for a few years and it did not disappoint. It's clean and sophisticated with the just the right dose of richness, especially in the details. Especially noteworthy was service and genuine hospitality that I received from Kaitlyn and Katie - they were rockstars! Don't hesitate to stay here and carve some time out to spend in the beautiful courtyard!
Danielle (10/5): - The property was lovely and well appointed. The breakfast was a nice touch (although repetitive). The staff was very kind and helpful. But our room (#3) was extremely noisy - you could hear the street, other guests inside the hotel passing by or in their rooms and the front door everytime it was used. It may have been the worst room due to its location and it should perhaps be mentioned when booking.

Lucy (10/5): Amazing hotel - WOW! What an amazing, beautiful hotel with amazing staff. We were wowed by it as soon as we pulled up and walked through the gardens, such a beautiful building. We were greeting by the loveliest lady, Katey, who made our stay extra special and was amazing throughout. She was so nice and friendly and couldn't do enough for you, it was like staying at a friends house! The room was beautiful and spacious with an amazing walk in closet. The little breakfast buffet was great with good vegan options. Fantastic location. We came all the way from the UK to celebrate my partners 50th birthday here and our stay was super special. It's well worth the luxury price. Just everything about our stay here was amazing and perfect, we couldn't have asked for more, especially Katey who was just wonderful!

Simona (10/5): A relaxing getaway - I stayed at The Richard for 2 nights. The location in Edgartown is excellent and is a short walk away from restaurants / town area / beach. The town itself is quaint and perfect for families. Katie at reception was super nice and helpful with our request for a late check-in and with food / activity recommendations. The Richard is a small boutique hotel and the rooms are slightly smaller in size, however it was perfect for a 2 night stay. The interior decorations are very modern, clean and cozy. Breakfast was included and they had a small but nice selection of locally baked goods. Would definitely recommend. The prices are high for the size of the room, however, I understand that Martha's Vineyard especially in the summer months can be quite expensive generally. Considering that - for the location, cleanliness, design and service - I would say its still worth it.

Claudia (4/5): - Not what I would call a 5-star hotel. Staff hideaway. Hours of service are random, 7:30 usually means 8:15. If you're in a prime room in the courtyard be prepared to walk in the rain to get coffee. Additionally, you may find the doors locked in which case you will need to walk to the front of the hotel to use the keypad. No coffee is available in the rooms. Rooms are not well insulated, so you will hear everything that goes on above your room or outside of your room. Very sad, because the location is excellent.

For me the bed was extremely uncomfortable. Other than the breakfast I was satisfied with everything else. And Katey was lovely very helpful very pleasant a very nice and talented young lady
