• Deepak (6/5): Location was good but stay was okay - Location of guest house is in heart of city. Everything is nearby. Guesthouse was clean and as per description but there is no front desk and no one answer your call from night 9 pm to morning 10 pm even if you get into emergency or get stuck outside of guest house. There were couple of false advertisement like free parking and laundry. They didn’t specify that Free parking is available on street for a certain period and laundry is paid for around $25. I wish they have better communication way during night as tourist will come from another country or another city . They look forward for some assistance if they need it. I called them multiple times during for some minor assistance but no one answered until 10:30 am next morning .

• FRANCINE (8/5): - It was very well set up with a full and large kitchen / dining room for guests to prepare their own food. It was more like a hostel than a hotel. One shared bathroom per floor worked fairly well. Shame there was not a separate toilet tho. Room was neat snd well decorated bed and bedding was amazingly comfortable . Narrow stairs up to bedrooms and down to kitchen were challenging for a 70 plus body . My early checkin was accommodated at no extra charge
• Daniel (2/5): - While it was disclosed that there is no front desk, the property owner committed to send entry code and instructions for self check in prior to arrival. Despite email requests and Expedia intervention, that never happened and we had to find our way in with another couple who had the code. Not communicating at all is unacceptable as it leaves travelers stranded and unable to get into their room. Once we got into our room, there were some issues. The baseboard was separated from the wall with a nail sticking out. Next, the doorknob came off when entering the side room. The blinders are bent and wouldn’t go up and down. The pipes in the shower came apart once turned on and required you to reattach pipes while showering and naked. Finally, the beds were so soft that we both sunk into a cavern of foam in the middle of the bed by morning. While we knew this wasn’t the Four Seasons going in, there were just too many things wrong with the checkin process and overall condition of the property to rate it any higher.
• Jeanne (8/5): - Centrally located, easy to walk to the centre of town. Despite this, it is remarkably quiet. Clean. Room was very clean and bright. This hostel is located in an older building - the rooms were great, the kitchen and bathrooms need some updating. The bathrooms were a little musty and toilets were coming to the end of their life. Kitchen microwave is old and slow.
• James (8/5): - Oveall good place for our family of 4 with good beds and ammenities. Sound proofing wasnt great as street noise was quite loud. When i tried to use the stovetop the power went out due to a vlown breaker, forcing me to use the shared kitchen vs the private one in our suite (after i found the breaker box and reset it), so that was inconvenient.
• wendy (10/5): - We came in late therefore it was easy to receive code for door and easy check in instructions. Very comfortable beds! Thank you!!
• Sarah (2/5): - The host was extremely rude and unhelpful. We had a group of 7 people for the first night and only 2 people for the second night, so we booked 2 rooms for 4 people each for the first night and one room with 4 beds for the 2nd night even though we only needed 2. I did this so we could leave our bags in the room and have the whole day free to explore. All the rooms were booked within the same hour and I sent a message to the host asking to have the same room for the second night even though we didn't need that many beds. It took him 3 weeks to reply, but he said he would manage it. You don't find out which room you are in until you arrive, so when we got in and saw which rooms we had for the first night I wrote to ask which one we had for the 2nd night. Over an hour later I got a response that we did not have the same room but were going to have to change rooms (check-out is by 11am, check-in is after 2pm). The guy who brought us our towels called the owner so I could talk to him, but he refused to listen, constantly interrupted me and proceeded to throw insults at me! So the next morning we had to pack our bags up and wait in the room to find out where to move our stuff. Eventually we wandered around the building and found a cleaner who was able to figure out which room we were being moved to. (There is no front desk) She cleaned it first and let us in. I wrote to tell the owner that we were in the room and he replied later that day. We lost 1/2 day and never got an apology.
• Sandra (8/5): - No towels as housekeeping error but mitigated with a little delay. Also confusion over some of our group staying an extra night and incorrect room reserved with poor communication from management despite reservations made 6 months in advance. Otherwise good price for studio apartments in city. Shared bathroom in main area very smelly by morning.

• Thomas (10/5): - We had a family room with en suite bath and a kitchenette, and it was fine for our short stay in Reykjavik. It really is central too all of the attractions in the town; we walked in all directions and the property always seemed to be only a few streets away. It is also steps from Bus Stop No. 2 - Tjornin, which is a pick-up point for excursion busses. The kitchenette had cooking facilities, a small refrigerator, a water kettle, and the like. It was a pleasant place to stay.
• Mike (6/5): - I would like to tell the owner to fix the door knob into the “ other bedroom”. The knob was loose and fell off. Also, the room used for the 4th bed had a window with no blackout curtains or no curtains at all. The location was nice for exploring downtown but that was also the downfall. We could hear the DJ until 12:30am. We had to be up at 2:30am to drive back to the airport so we just ended up leaving without getting any sleep. Also did not receive the email with the check in instructions. In a good neighborhood.

• Jeanette (8/5): - Great location. We had a studio, so we had a private bathroom, which was small but adequate. It slept 4, which worked well for our family. It would have been great to have blackout curtains on the windows since the sun never set.

• Lukasz (6/5): You get what you pay for - We had the studio apartment. First the good: relatively cheap and as centrally located in downtown as it gets. Super close to all sites you may want to visit. However, freezer completely full of old frost, so we had to keep our frozen pizza in the fridge and it eat promptly. No oven, so had to pan cook the pizza. Power went out in entire apartment on the last day and no one was around to help or pick up the phone-we ended up using the super hot tap water to make a double boiler to heat up milk for the kids. Lots of spiders and spiderwebs in apartment, also three giant bumblebees(can’t even speculate on how those got in). Kettle kept spilling all over the place when trying to pour. Limited plates and only one bowl and 1 glass available. There were three cups however. There is no tv, but it’s not advertised as having one, so that’s fine, just didn’t expect that… even a one star in North America has a tv. The advertised ‘free’ parking on site is actually just over 3 blocks away. The paid parking by the guesthouse is not free even on Sundays and only free after 9pm otherwise and not the 6pm that you read about on various sites. Only P3 parking spots are free after 6pm and on Sunday.
• Verified traveler (4/5): - Dirty bathroom and kitchen area. Clean bedroom and comfy bed. An extra pillow would have been better.
• Jessica (6/5): - The check-in for this guesthouse was very difficult! The property owner was supposed to email us 2 days before with check in codes and information since there are no staff on site to help. However, they never contacted us, and at the time of check in, I ended up calling, messaging, and texting many times with no response. When the owner finally did respond (hours after check in time began), they gave us the incorrect door code. We had to go through expedia customer service to get the correct information and ended up spending a ton of time on our phones just go get inside out of the cold. The rooms themselves were as expected and the space was cozy, but the check in process made they stay not worth the money.
• Verified traveler (2/5): WORST ACCOMMODATION EVER - When I arrived to this accommodation, it was around 8 pm, freezing weather, however the main entrance never opened even though I put the right access code. It was NEVER OPENED before someone inside discovered me shivering outside and open it. The host NEVER ANSWERED to my phone call and they did nothing to allow me to enter the accommodation that night. The situation was worse when I entered there. Every name in tickets was “Last Minute”, not the real name of guests, I cannot find where my room is. People who arrived before me just picked up any keys available. Moreover, I left some alcohol, orange juice and eggs inside the refrigerator which was separated into the room number and someone stole them just in one day. The total cost was more than 3,000 ISK and I was really upset but the host answered me really late that they cannot do anything for me. (And this happened again in the next day.) The toilet door NEVER LOCKED from the inside and opened from the outside, so someone else came in while I was washing. If I could go back to when I booked accommodation, I would never make the mistake of booking this accommodation. If you really want to shiver in the cold when you arrive in Reykjavik or hope to have your food stolen, or desire to feel anxious about washing in a bathroom that won’t lock, book this accommodation and ruin your journey.

• Rebecca (8/5): - Best is location a block to a lake with swans and ducks, 4 blocks to Rainbow Street and shopping and restaurants. Negative is parking not as stated and no one was there when they said they would be. You have to figure everything out for yourself.
• Joseph (10/5): Great deal for a great location/spacious studios - After reading so many negative reviews, I was afraid that our keys wouldn't be waiting for us or that there would be bed bugs. None of that happened and we loved the place! Just as described in the email, we used the access code to get into the lobby, and our keys were there waiting for us with our names on them. It took us a few minutes to find the doors to our studios, but we found them and they were quite spacious, with 4 twin beds and a kitchen and a bathroom in each studio. It would have been preferable to have someone there to greet us and check us in, but that's probably why the price for these studios was so reasonable. The location is right in the middle of numerous nice restaurants and bars. I highly recommend!
• Wei Shan (6/5): - Parking provided is normal public paid parking 8n Reyjyavik which is free after 6pm until 9am.
• Jacqueline (8/5): - Older rooms and not terribly quiet between rooms but great to have access to a kitchen to make breakfast or lunch. Nice walkable location and bus stop right out front. Overall, pleased with stay.
• Jennifer (2/5): - BED BUGS!!!!! We stayed in room 6. Our child slept on the day bed. My husband and I on the two singles that were next to each other. My child was bit dozens of times in one night! I have contacted the property about this through two different platforms and have not heard back. We inspected our backpacks which were thankfully zipped most of the time and did not pick up any additionally travelers. Nonetheless we paid 25 pounds at our next location to have all of our clothes professionally laundered.
• Jimmy (8/5): - I like that it was clean. That our four beds were pretty comfortable and it was in walking distance to a lot of stuff. The parking was confusing I didn't see any free parking anywhere had to park in the street where it was required to pay. But it was pretty safe I wasn't worried about my vehicle.
• Stephen (2/5): No keys left so not able to check in VERY POOR !! - Arrived at 19:30 on Sat 29/07 but no key left so could not check in tried phoneing the owner but no one answered , another family of 4 and another group of 2 also had no keys so no room for them as well
• WILLIAM (10/5): - A nice economy hotel in Old Reykjavik's city center, close to the ocean, and if you don't mind a shared bathroom (one on each floor) and the curiosity of needing to remove your shoes at the entryway. I would stay here again.

• Manon (6/5): Best location in Reykjavík but needs improvements - The guesthouse is very conveniently located in downtown Reykjavík. It is just a few steps away from the pedestrian streets. We were in studio B and it had a terrible smell coming from the bathroom that we didn’t find in any of our other hotels during our 2 week trip through Iceland. There was a small leak in the ceiling when it rained. The self checkin instructions are not very clear and it took us a while to find our studio. Especially because the instructions said studio A but our key was for studio B. Couldn’t find anyone on property to help us. There is street parking right out front but it is not free.
• Chunhong (2/5): - We arrived hotel around 9:30 AM hoping to meeting host there and ask if we can store luggage before we can checkin. The host wasn't there and our room key wasn't ready. So we carried all our luggage and wondered around the city till 2:00 PM and came back hoping to have room key ready. But the key still wasn't ready and the host is no where to be found. We met a bunch of other guests who couldn't check-in as well. Some of them called host and found out they couldn't find any body to clean the rooms due to some management issues. We were terribly tired at this time and decided just take a twin bed room as we booked and took a rest in the dirty room (used our own sleeping bag). We booked two nights. As we stayed the host never showed up. Now I found I'm charged full price for two nights. I think we deserve partial refund. Other than this issue we loved the property. It's right in the center of the city. The surrounding is beautiful and minutes to restaurants and stores.
• Christopher (10/5): - Modest and charming, our room for four had great windows and view of the legendary concert hall...and took in the 20-hour daylight quite well!
• Obdulio (2/5): - Whatever you do, don’t stay at this property. I arrived and my room keys were ready for me but the room wasn’t. The beds were unmade and dirty towels from previous guests. I left for a few hours so they could get the room ready. No toilet paper provided other than what was left from previous guest.Came back to our room on the third day to a leak coming from kitchen ceiling. Water all over the floor and it kept us up all night. Called the owner of the property more than 5 times and no response to emails either. On the day we were leaving I saw the housekeeper who also called the owner and he didn’t answer either. Horrible customer services and the room was dirty.

• Gillon (6/5): Great Location Youth Hostel Feel - Good location and good shared kitchen facilities. However, the private room was stuffy and the shared bathroom was mediocre.

• CHENG YANG (2/5): - This was the worst guesthouse we have ever been to, the radiator came out from the wall and the water was leaking everywhere. We have no place to put our luggages and we could not contact the owner. There were wet blankets on the floor when we checked in, so obviously the owner knew there was a leakage in our room before we arrived, but he/she did not inform us. This was very irresponsible. We had pension-age people and young children in our group, so the wet vinyl floor was highly dangerous, someone might have slipped and could have gotten injured. We tried to contact the owner but without any success. Besides, the kitchen and bathroom were very dirty.

• Stacey M (4/5): - Parking is on the street, so you have to pay during those hours. Studio A has water damage and smells like sulfur/sewage. There are other units though. Walkable to many places in the area.
• Ann (8/5): - We knowingly booked a room that was smaller than we would have liked for our larger party but we were only staying one night so the room and facilities were fine for us. And the beds were comfortable. There were not a lot of accommodations available at a decent price in downtown Reykjavik that weekend. The room was a bit tired looking but the guesthouse was good value for the money and we would stay again.
• Bhumi (2/5): - We did not have electricity for over a day and a half and we contacted management via email, text, and phone call and did not receive any response back until 15 hours later. Many bathrooms did not have toilet paper... would not recommend.
• rick (2/5): - Never ever met manager/owner, no toilet paper most times, washroom door would not close or lock, had to have friend sit in front of the door when showering, lights not working in stairwell and kitchen, run down, shower and kitchen sink taps continuously dripping. No tv or radio in rooms as stated, very rundown. Decent beds is the only plus.

• Verified traveler (6/5): Given cheaper room to the one booked and paid for - This was a nice property in a good location, very handy for tours. However, there are no staff available and we have had no response from them a month after visiting about the fact that we were given the wrong room. We booked a much larger four person room, even though only three were travelling. When you enter all the keys are hung up with no individual names on just 'expedia' written or 'last minute' written on each one. As we booked with hotels.com we didn't even know which could be ours. We took the remaining keys and tried the rooms, only one had three beds in, our booked four bed room was not there. We have asked through hotels.com for them to respond to this issue as we paid significantly more for a room we didn't get. Had we arrived with more people we simply would have had nowhere to sleep. They have not responded
• Siri (10/5): - Such a cute guesthouse! Very cozy and authentically Reykjavik. It had everything I needed, and I loved having a sink in the room. The location is excellent, very walkable to all the cute shops and restaurants in Reykjavik. There is a bus stop right out front for all the tour pickups as well. Highly recommend!
• Charlotte (2/5): - ADVICE: DOUBLE CHECK YOUR BOOKING WITH THE HOST Unfortunately when we arrived at Central Guesthouse there was no room available for our party. An error with Expedias booking system meant our booking had not been received on the hosts end - even though we had confirmation - and we were left without a room (this also happened to another couple who arrived at the same time we did). Although not the Hosts fault entirely, it was impossible to contact them when we arrived (15 Calls and messages) and he was very unhelpful when we did eventually get in touch stating there was nothing he could do and hanging up. We ended up having to fork out for new hotels for our 3 night trip at quite an expense on New Year’s Eve.
• Jan H (8/5): - Location was great. Place was simple and basic. Would stay again, no complaints.
• Eric (8/5): - Location is excellent. Accommodations are perfectly fine. Check-in instructions were a little confusing. Maintenance needs a bit of work.
• lindley (8/5): Great location and cozy nice place to stay - Can't beat the location. Bus stop 2 is right out front. Comfortable, very clean rooms. Great full kitchen downstairs with many tables and chairs. Fun talking to other travelers while in this common area. Shared bathrooms were always available, never had to wait to use one and always kept clean.
• Elizabeth (8/5): - Central Guesthouse is just around the block from the bus, making it very easy to get around downtown and to excursion (and airporr) connections. We were a bit apprehensive about the shared bathrooms but this was not a problem at all. Our room was comfortable and we had a nice view of the park and pond.

• morgen (6/5): Bathroom needs work - Our stay was one night. Beds were comfortable and room was clean. The upstairs bathroom needed work. The toilet did not flush properly. The tile on the floor was cracked and the shower needed serious attention.
• Ronni (6/5): - This is a bit of a mixed review. On the one hand, the location is excellent. It is about a 5 minute walk from a lovely pond and restaurants and shops but is still in a quiet area. We stayed in the studio which was spacious and matched the description. There is a lovely patio outside our room which unfortunately turns into an outdoors smoking lounge. Our room was so hot and stuffy because we didn't want to open the windows since people were often smoking a couple of feet away and would fill the studio with smoke. Even just having a fan would have helped a lot. I would urge the owners to make the patio smoke free since the guest house is as well. Additionally, at check in, a key was left for us with a crude map about where the room was as it took us a while to find it. Clearer instructions would have helped a lot. Finally, the Expedia site is incorrect in it's claim of free parking. Street parking is available but there is an hourly charge during the day that added $50 to our stay.
• Kathryn (10/5): - Centrally located everything is walkable. Clean and comfortable! Easy check-in and great communication. We stored some luggage while we hiked, which was a great convenience.

• crystal (10/5): - Great space for our family of 4, a little musty smelling but that is expected in an old building. Good location, we walked everywhere, would definitely stay here again.
• Verified traveler (2/5): - If you are on an extremely tight budget, this guesthouse might be a good option. It's fairly cheap, centrally located, and has a kitchen that lets you avoid paying Reykjavik food prices. But the place was dirty and in bad condition, a lot of things were broken, and the owner was extremely inhospitable. If you're able to pay a bit more, you might want to look elsewhere.
• Brenda (8/5): - In general this was a clean, convenient guesthouse to stay at. Bus stop #2 and #3 were extremely close as was a taxi stand. Our beds were very comfortable. The main overhead light in the quadruple room has an electrical short in the switch and wouldn't not stay on and the door to our room had a very loud squeak, just needed some lubrication. My biggest concern was The Hard Rock Cafe played loud music until 4 am so I was glad I had earplugs. The shared bathroom shower needs updating, after our 1st day the key to lock the bathroom went missing and the door couldn't be locked if you were using the shower or toilet. With a few minor fixes this place would get a perfect score.

• Cale (2/5): - This guest house flat out lied about parking, we specifically chose this property as it was listed on orbitz as “parking included.” This property has absolutely no parking. After we arrived they informed us that there is street parking that one must pay for or free parking 3 blocks away. This is a huge issue as my partner is has difficulty walking. It is downtown Reykjavik so even finding street parking was difficult. Very unsatisfied that this guesthouse misrepresented that they provided parking.
• Jodi (10/5): Wonderful, clean guesthouse in a great location - What a pleasure to arrive at such a beautiful room after a long and snowy drive! The location was simply amazing and perfect, the parking was easy, and the check-in process was very simple. The only downside was the noise of some of the residents, but I suppose that's true at most hotels, hostels, and guesthouses. Will people ever learn not to slam doors? Anyway, it was a huge step above a hostel; indeed, it was nicer than most hotel rooms in my price range!
• Or (6/5): - Honestly was pretty disappointed, didn't get an email with code or check in instructions (until the day after check out) and couldn't get in at first, had to contact hotels.com (who were great btw top marks for them) and wait for some random guest to open the door for me by chance... Finally found the place honestly it was like someone left halfway through getting the room ready, one of the beds wasn't even made and was a mess (I was only by myself but that still felt bad), someone else's USED TOWEL and shampoo was in the shower, it was like no one really cared if you were there or not honestly so long as u paid, just unwelcoming. U can hear everything from the next studio, exposed walls, the sink in the shower was a mess like construction going on? Dunno, wasn't the best experience honestly.
• Hannah (10/5): - I'm a sucker for old houses and this guesthouse is beautiful! The rooms were lovely and quiet, and the location couldn't have been better. It's walking distance to everything there is to see in Reykjavik!
• Mandy (8/5): - So this is a good budget friendly property that’s located in a very convenient area to downtown Reykjavik, and public transportation. I stayed there only because it was for basically half a day between my two flights, so I went with the shared bathroom option. The bed was comfortable. The rooms are incredibly basic. Not even a cup for water. I had no contact with staff before or after other than their emails about how to check in/check out. They seemed friendly though. The one thing that bothered me was the “shoes in the lobby” thing. I don’t wear shoes in my home, or throughout my hotel room but I don’t enjoy dragging my suitcase up the stars and walking around in public spaces barefoot. Otherwise ok for a short stay. :)
• Anubhav (6/5): - Property is very close to the downtown and very close to the bus stops if one has planned some day tours and needs a pick up from the bus. Rooms are not sound proof and we get noise from outside. This is a bit uncomfortable if someone checks in late at night.

We checked ourselves in and out, which was very convenient, but we did not see any staff persons our entire stay. The room was simple and tidy, as was the bathroom and shared kitchen.

• Alejandro (4/5): - Not impressed with this place. Check-in was promised for 12 pm but the room was not ready. We returned in the afternoon to find one of the beds had not been done. We emailed and called to request service and no one ever came. The shower was dangerous, it being difficult to calibrate the water temperature without getting scalded. Location is good however. But honestly would try other places before going back there.
• Verified traveler (6/5): - "Needs must" accommodation a short walk from downtown Reykjavik. The room was spacious and pleasant but the constant sound of overhead walking and slamming of doors (from 4.45 a.m. one morning) made sleep possible for only around five hours and would probably have been even less in a room facing the main road.
• Verified traveler (10/5): spot on Reykjavik - The location is reflected in the name, making this an idyllic spot to walk around the city. The room was spacious, clean and quiet. The large kitchen is well-outfitted with several tables, a book/ game shelf, and a television; each room has a designated refrigerator shelf, as well. The owner was very with our having to get a covid test to return to the US.

• Verified traveler (6/5): Great location, good price. NO parking. Needs TLC - Location is great-- centrally located to the tourist walking and shopping area. Price was good for being downtown. We stayed in a studio to have a private bathroom. Our only issues were parking and upkeep. We specifically chose this place because it listed free, onsite parking multiple times. This is simply not true. The guesthouse is located street side and there is no parking on the property because it runs right to the sidewalk. They also listed free street parking which is somewhat true, and thus misleading. The free street parking outside the guesthouse is after hours (about 4 or 6pm until morning). There is a time limit as well so you can only pay for a couple hours then move your car. The 24 hour free parking is blocks and blocks away and are areas where there is no P sign which can be a bit difficult to be sure if you are not from that area and can't read Icelandic. They need to update their listing to correct this but also could provide a map of the area to show you where to park which could be emailed in advance, near the main entrance, and in the rooms. They stated they don't wish to be disturbed after hours so arriving late and having no where to park is not great. For upkeep, their speaker to "call" them is terrible to hear. They are not on-site so getting help the next morning for parking was futile. The bathroom sink had a massive hole repaired with some foam. Should be replaced! Old, faded, handwritten, unreadable pieces of paper marked the rooms.
• Wasantha (10/5): Central Guest House in the Centre of Reykjavik. - Very close to City Hall where we wanted to be and within walking distance to BSI bus terminal. Easy to find and easy to access with information provided. Good kitchen facilities and full bathroom on each floor to be shared. Good heating and wash basin in the room make it easier for privacy.
• Christina (8/5): - Amazing location, super friendly and lovely host. The shared bathroom could have been a bit cleaner, especially as the drain was fairly plugged, but the hosts were in daily to clean everything. Shared kitchen area was fully equipped. Overall a nice stay, fairly quiet too so we got a good sleep. Would stay again.

• Anita (4/5): - I didn't understand the difference between a hotel and a guest house .this place has 2 floors and no elevator, so 2nd floor a guests lug baggage up. 6 rooms on the 2nd floor and one bathroom with toilet and shower. With 2 guests/room, 12 people share a bathroom. Room was chilly and heater could not be turned up to provide adequate warmth. Called offsite manager/owner who could do nothing about it. Room was very small but clean. Centrally located.
