Guest Reviews
- doberhus (2/5): Cheap but not cheerful - This hotel was a nightmare - arrived in room which was very small and the bathroom ceiling was leaking - called reception up and Basil Fawlty arrived. He said we would be ok as it was the people upstairs showering and as we would be gone in the morning it would only leak if they showered again! Has to be better than this in Pontevedra.
No volvería a repetir jamás.
- callumg396 (2/5): Extremely cold showers, even at the maximum heat capacity. - This frustrated me so much, I downloaded trip advisor just to leave this review and to let people know
The shower in the rooms are extremely cold, even at a maximum of heat. I have not been able to take a shower during my stay because they limit the heat of the water so much.
Right now, the shower is at a maximum heat, yet is spraying some of the coldest water I've ever seen come out of a shower head. This is not a Mexican thing, as I have been traveling around Mexico with my partner for weeks and this is the first time this has happened.
The prices may be cheaper for hotel rooms here, but it comes at a cost. Expect not to shower in CityExpress Hoteles, unless you enjoy very cold showers. It's a disappointment really, as being on holiday in Mexico it's necessary tourists shower and are clean and removing the built up sweat through the traveling they may be doing. If your partner, children or family are expecting a shower here, just know it will be very cold, even at a maximum. I hope the hotel can read this and change this for their next customers, it's ridiculous how a shower at full heat can be so freezing.
- Aldara (10/5): - Estancia agradable, lugar céntrico y acogedor.
- glenn (6/5): Budget hotel - Staff are friendly. The only issue is there is no aircon and the walls are paper thin. So if youre looking at staying in the summer be prepared for no sleep. Busy city centre where its very noisy. Bins in the street get emptied around 1 - 3am and I could hear everyone on my floor if they turemned on a tap, went to the shower, had their tv on etc.
I got no sleep for the 2 seeks i was there.
- Fabian (4/5): - This property doesn't have Air Conditioning which at first I thought it might be ok, but it was not. The sun hit our room and made it pretty hot and was not easy to sleep with that heat. Also, in order to cool it we had to have the windows open which basically allows all the noise in the streets to come into the room. It was a pretty rough night. Keep this in mind when booking this hotel.
- John (8/5): - No
- Syam (8/5): - b
- Guillermo (8/5): - Good place to stay
- Anders (8/5): Helt OK, lite slitet - Bra service, rent men lite slitet
- Alejandra Beatriz (10/5): - Muy buena estadía, limpio y agradable
- paul (8/5): - Bon rapport qualité-prix
- Natalia (8/5): - Limpieza impecable.
- Joao-Can (4/5): Poor - Very outdated hotel. Good location. The bathroom was nightmare. A strange window right in the bathtub. No air condition and the room was really hot. The room door lock was broken. However, the staff was very friendly and even put a air column to refresh the room. The food from the restaurant was very nice. One night there is more than enough.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Needs major update....Entire sink had crack lines everywhere and toilet reservoir tank cover had too. Hotel extremely noisy as people returning from clubbing at all late hours....Staff never intervened.....In addition, opened window that faces back open area with other apartments and had to smell cigarette and worse frying exhaust too. Next time, I will pay more so I can get a real good nights rest.
- gerbid (8/5): Beside the old town. - Review from my Mam and Dad who stayed for 3 nights.
The hotel is on the southside of the old town. The area is buzzing with people in cafes and on the paths chatting and having their drinks. It's also close to all the sights.
The reception is a small desk at the entrance in front of the lift and stairs. The receptionist speak perfect English and are very friendly and helpful. Check-in was straight forward.
NOTE: This is a Camino hotel so mid afternoon there may be a queue at reception. Also early morning you may hear people moving about some more noisy than others as they think everyone else are not on holidays and need to be up too..
There is a small lift or if you feel fit a stairs to your room.
The room overlooking the street had wooden parquet flooring, a large wardrobe, a normal double bed, a single armchair and a desk/table for the flat screen TV. The TV had no English channels but did have some music channels.
The bathroom was a nice size with a strong hot shower in the bath. The shower curtain was not fit for purpose as water escaped on to the floor.
A nice looking feature but potentially dangerous, a window porthole over the bath. It fully rotates open. This is the only ventilation in the bathroom and you are dissuaded from opening it during showering as you will wet people on the street which actually happened to my mother. It also gathers water from the shower.
A hair dryer is available at reception and you are advised to leave your key at reception when leaving the hotel.
Overall an old hotel in a perfect area of Pontevedra that may not suit holidaymakers because of the early morning noises from the pilgrims. It suits pilgrims perfectly. Pontevedra is a lovely city to spend a few days.
We completed a 5hr35 (21km) circuit that we downloaded from wikiloc. There is also a 14km historical walk visiting sites as old as 2500 years ago.
- Alex (8/5): Great location - Great location right in the old city. Easy parking close by. Rooms are dated but functional and a good bang for the buck to be close to the action.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Kleines aber sauberes Zimmer. Frühstücken ist möglich
- joseaB565QB (2/5): Very Bad - We stayed while walking Portuguese Camiño.
All is very bad except the location!
The bed, old decoration, cleaning, expensive, everything.
The room and the toilet has a lot of problems! Holes, risks, ...
Do not deserve any cent payed.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Muy bien situado - Muy bien situado
- 11melanieh (2/5): Not particularly pleasant hotel but good location! - This hotel is like walking into the 1970's! It is in desperate need of renovation and that includes the rooms! The beds and bedside tables were particularly old and unpleasant! It didn't smell badly - which was an improvement on some of the hotels we stayed in but it didn't feel particularly clean. The shower was powerful and that is probably my only positive apart from that the location was very good - very accessible to everything in the area.
- 981leanneh (2/5): Bad hotel - Upon arrival after a 22km walk, we had to wait 25 minutes to be checked in, as there was no one on reception. We were acknowledged after 5 minutes and advised to wait 5 minutes. However the receptionist was friendly and welcoming.
The rooms extremely small, unclean, uncomfortable beds, very old decor, broken hand rail in the bathroom. We stayed as short time as possible in this room & left as early as we could in the morning. I would avoid this hotel, as it is far to expensive for what you get.
- Misty (8/5): Camino Stop - Overall comfortable property. Rooms were outdated and not overly welcoming but comfortable enough. Staff was accommodating upon arrival and checkout. Restaurant staff was excellent! Location was great.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Muy bien situado y personal amable.
- ThemaceSomerset (6/5): Slightly disappointing overall - Stayed here with friends whilst walking the Camino. We paid the same here as we had done the previous evening elsewhere. There we had a large triple room with a quality bathroom, plus the most beautiful views and breakfast. Here we got a small twin room with an extra bed in it, a tiny bathroom, no natural light and no breakfast included. In many ways it was one of the most depressing rooms I have ever stayed in. What lifts it up to average (just) is its excellent location just on the edge of the very beautiful old town and the excellent staff. The receptionist was probably the most helpful member of staff I have met anywhere. Her English was flawless(of course!) and she could not have been more genuinely friendly and helpful. I wish I could remember her name because whatever they are paying her they should increase it immediately!
- Verified traveler (8/5): 3 Star Plus, in the centre of Pontevedra - Great location and reasonably quiet for a city centre hotel. Our room was great, although the bathroom was a bit dated. The hotel has maintained many of its original features which gives it a feel of a traditional yet modern hotel. The only slight disapointment was the fact that dinner is only served from 9:00pm onwards which was a bit late for us, so we went out and ate at one of the many excellent restaurants in the area. Overall we had a good stay at Hotel Comercio.
- kevin (6/5): One night stay while on the Camino - The hotel is very central and in a nice area to see all the sites in the city. Very clean rooms. The lady receptionist was vert helpful but the young lad at the reception was more interested in talking to others while he was checking us in and the same at check out.
- Gerritsen (8/5): - Hotel simples e aconchegante.
- Michael (6/5): - Great location, wonderful staff. No air conditioning or window fans, though.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It is near everything, quiet, safe. The staff are very helpful.
- Nodrog36 (4/5): Tired hotel and staff too busy - My wife and I stayed one night at the Hotel Comercio, whilst walking the Portuguese Camino. On arrival we waited at the reception but nobody came, so I popped my head into the bar and a member of staff acknowledged me and came though to book me in. After a very quick check in I was handed the key. Our room was a double ensuite that was slightly tired. We slept well and had breakfast before we left in the morning.
The same guy who checked us in around 3pm, also served us a drink at about 11pm and then served us by reakfast in the morning, he looked run of his feet. If I was reviewing him I would give him 4* but it the hotel I'm reveiwing and the look as if the need more staff.
- walkmun (2/5): Get a refurbished room - The room they gave me was on the first floor at the end of the corridor, with a single window opening into a ventilation shaft. The furniture and bedding were very very old, gloomy and the perpetual darkness quite depressive. The TV bolted to the wall was an old black and white CRT television set that could not get any reception, and the room telephone didn't work.
I went back down reception and asked for a refund as I could not stay here. It did not seem to surprise the receptionist who at first said that they could not refund me as they had already taken the payment from my credit card. However after speaking with the manager they offered me another room on an upper floor. This was a modern refurbished 'normal' hotel room that one would expect. And it is quite acceptable.
If they offer you the dog house of a place just don't accept it.
- Castleguy (8/5): Good Budget Hotel - Very cheap and clean and all we needed for a stay - friendly welcome and peaceful sleep - does what it says on the tin !! Location was right in the middle of town so great if you have had enough walking !
- 57belkisr (8/5): Nice and inexpensive - Located in the middle of downtown, closed to all landmarks, free parking spots and must see places, this cozy, clean and friendly staffed hotel fully covered my expectations. Rooms are bit small but very good for the price.
- noelb359 (6/5): Noel - Centrally located good amenities all about. Hotel clean . Not expensive. Breakfast not included in the price. Pretty basic just croissants and orange juice. Would stay there again. Good shopping area with lots of nice restaurants close by.
- vladmironov (8/5): Good to sleep for pilgrims - We were like three pilgrims stuck on the Camino in the night so we just were looking for the nearest city and accommodations for minimum price. This one had three rooms, nice late supper, hot water and clean sheets. I get all I needed and was surprised that the hotel located just round the corner from the Camino through the city.
- bruce36 (4/5): good location in city - stayed here on camino as albergues and hostels full ,was looking forward to staying in a hotel after a long week on the road in albergues . staff must have had an off day as found them very rude ,,when checking in room i was assigned was not cleaned and was assigned a clean room after a few minutes . wifi worked good in room and in cafeteria ,,didnt eat here so cant comment only had a breakfast the following morning which was very average ..
