- Thomas (7/5): If you are going for an event book way in advance for a better price and do not stay in room 218. - We went for an event. The redwoods were nice. The staff was very friendly. Pot holes everywhere especially when trying to leave to go to the overflow parking. The room smelled like mold. Had to air it out. I also had my first asthma attack since January 2026 when i stayed in this room. It was either mild or was not properly cleaned after a guest had a pet stayed there. Those are the only times I get asthma.

Pool appears to be permanently closed Nowhere to walk to. Good curb appeal from the car park but very rough around the back with some demolished areas now used as a car park.

- Joseph (5/5): A bit overpriced for basically just a motel - Location was convenient and easy to find. Staff were friendly and helpful and the on-site diner and lounge were convenient and always very busy. The rooms are just fair - standard motel rooms. The one I was in had some odd pipe or wall shifting noise that sounded like a loud pop all night long that kept me up both nights of my stay. Two other people I knew didn't experience this, so it may have been because I was at the very end of the Lodge, but it definitely dampened my experience by quite a bit.

The breakfast in the diner was delightful, made especially better by the young lady who waited on us. It was not clean. I don’t have an issue with a hotel that caters to pet lovers, but I expect the room to be clean when I arrive. There were pet hairs all over our bed. Additionally, we stayed two nights and received no service after the first night.

They put a candle in our food and sang happy birthday to us! Being surrounded by the trees is beautiful. The mattress was hard. Getting to and from the property winding through narrow canyons. Pot holes throughout the driveway. I wish you had more of a souvenir shop. We would love to see the brook that runs through. That should be a key feature of restoration.

It was caked with dirt inside that we had to clean out. The shower handle was very touchy--it went from the temp I wanted to scalding at the slightest of pressure.

I dont recommend the diner. I order a biscuit and gravy and a side of bacon since they were out of sausage. The biscuit was hard as a rock and the "country gravy" was cream of chicken soup with a very tiny apronlong of sausage. I really triwdto eat it because I was hungry, but ut was disgusting and i gave up halfway through. It took 30 minutes for an order that shouldn't have taken more than 10. I won't eat there again. On a high note, there are some great restaurants nearby. I highly recommend The Sawmill. The fish and chips with sweet potato fries were amazing and the staff is great! Thanks so much! The horrible food in the diner. The crappy parking i. The back side as there is no access to the rooms from the front of the lodge. The first desk clerk i talked with in the morning was very nice and helpful. The desk clerk when I he ked in was rus and acted like he was doing me a favor checking me in. Hello!! Who do you think pays your wages??? The customers staying in the lodge! Get a clue buddy!

New owners revitalizing to bring back the original grandeur. Great spot in the Redwoods a bit down the road from Felton. Rooms have been updated , spacious, clean and comfortable . Great fifties style cafe with surprising great breakfast , generous portions and stylishly plated . Glad we chose to eat there instead of drive into town. Staff were all great - adorable host/ waitress “Nariah” so friendly and sweet. We Want to repeat this stay and bring friends ! - Thomas (1/5): Very disappointing when dealing with the short man who was the self-proclaimed manager on Saturday night Sunday morning - We have been going to this property for years and while the event was great the hotel and staff were not. Dirty towels, broken bathroom door. Short man who stated that he was manager told me Saturday night that because of the broken door and the dirty towels that we would be comped someway, but they couldn’t put us in another room because they were fully booked. When I came down to check out, I asked the short self-proclaimed manager about a discount of some sort. He smirked in a condescending way stated that since he provided clean towels and that they were going to eventually fix the bathroom door that there was no issues and that he did not need to discount anything. That idiot needs to take a class of customer service. I wasn’t asking for a free room but it’s a simple ask for when you first come in to have a working bathroom door and clean towels. How the hell am I supposed to know that anything else in that room was clean if they can’t get something basic as clean towels, right. I got multiple reviews on different sites and sent a message to the hotel itself and it has fallen on deaf ears so the owners either don’t care or the short man who is a self proclaimed manager, saw my message and deleted it. Don’t stay here even if there’s a part on the property itself stay somewhere else.
- Sandra (9/5): - I had a very good experience at the historic Brookdale Lodge. Check-in was smooth and pleasant, thanks to the friendly staff. The on-site restaurant was also a highlight, with welcoming employees and very good food. I also appreciated the convenient little market on the premises. The location in the Santa Cruz Mountains is amazing, and my room was spacious and clean. My only complaint is that the carpet had a very strong, unpleasant odor. Overall, it was a nice stay, and I enjoyed the atmosphere and setting.

Came for a wedding..so perfect for the occasion. Especially appreciated the historic value of this site. Great updating!! Unfortunately the remodel was not complete and we would have liked to have seen more of the place...almost a tour. But none of this deterred us from thoroughly enjoying our stay.

The information stated it was Quiet Time from 10 pm but it wasn’t and the guests above our room were a tad inconsiderate with their noise level too. When we went to use the phone in the room to contact the front desk it didn’t work and no one was manning the front desk after 10pm.

- Robert (2/5): - The bed and nightstand smelled strongly of vomit. The friendly, gentlemanly night clerk mentioned nothing about an after-hours phone number. By the time my girlfriend and I returned to the hotel, it was past 10 p.m.—after the clerk had said he would be gone. I ended up sleeping on the floor after unsuccessfully trying to clean the smell with a washcloth and hand soap. Disgusting. The morning clerk was rude, doubtful, and unsympathetic. He suspiciously asked why I hadn’t called the after-hours number and offered no apology on behalf of the hotel. I even overheard him ask the maintenance manager to investigate “if there was a smell in the room?” There most definitely was a smell, and I had gone to great lengths to describe exactly where it was to the clerk. I was eventually refunded 50% for the room, which felt insulting considering I didn’t sleep a wink in it. Vomitus aroma aside—along with tiny, damp bath towels, a broken shampoo dispenser, an uncleaned carpet (which I became too familiar with), loose or broken exterior steps and utility closet doors—the hotel’s surrounding facilities were fun. The bar and restaurant had a great atmosphere, but this place has no business charging what it does for rooms, haunted or not. It’s a one-star spooky hotel in a cool location with fun nearby services. What it really needs is a serious cash infusion and the surly morning clerk to be replaced.

- Jeanne (2/5): Terrible stay. - Horrible stay. The entire hotel was booked with guests of a wedding party that took place right outside our room in the bar parking lot. An outdoor live band from 6-10pm. Then loud music, yelling, screaming, wild behavior and noise until 12mn. The hotel staff answered the phone at 10pm said they would talk with the bar staff. Nothing improved. I had to call the police. The hotel phone went to voicemail after 10pm. Luke warm water in the shower. Had to park in overflow parking and haul our suitcases to the room be at the wedding guests took all the parking. The balcony overlooked the bar and parking lot- no Mountain View. The pool was closed for reconstruction. We weren’t notified of any of this ahead. Do not stay here if you want a peaceful mountain retreat.

- Noel (8/5): - It’s worth staying just to see the history behind this, what could be incredible place. We hope they get to finish the restoration as it is amazing. It’s old a very dated, it’s clean inside the room. Off street parking, a great little bar to meet the locals and the bar staff are really nice.

- Lisa (10/5): What a gem! - I was not expecting this motel/lodge to be on par with a hotel. It was clean, remodeled, and we even had our own private balcony!
- Stephanie (10/5): - The staff was very friendly and accomidating. Nice little store, diner, and bar, with a pool table and shuffle board but unfortunatly closed on mondays. Private patio and large room. Would definitely return.

- RYIMSZA (10/5): Nice and great customer service - Breakfast at the cafe was very good and plentiful. Beds were very comfortable. Great location and planning to stay there again next year. Need handrails for getting in and out of shower and tub for us older folks. Blind spots when pulling out of the driveways. Heard from family members about the restaurant where the river runs through it. Would love to see it open again.
