• Renata (3/5): The worst hostel I stayed in during my traveling in Japan. - Location was alright Complete lack of kitchen facilities,no space to sit and eat anything at the hostel. Access to the bar with table and kettle available after 9-9.30AM No space for luggage under bed,no shelves or lockers. In the evening bar opened for people coming for a drink,chat and watching TV so not friendly for anyone wanting to rest,chill out or eat anything. The bedding was unpleasant,not sure how clean it was.Towels available after payment.Cheap,low quality body wash and shampoo.

• Joshua (8/5): An Overall Nice Stay - It was one of the better hostels I've stayed in, relatively. Staff was friendly, facilities were pretty clean, and the location is very close to many of the popular Osaka sights. What you get for the price likely can't be beat fairly easily in the area. Firstly, the futon/mattress was extremely thin. The staff seems to reply to reviews mentioning this arguing against it, but it really is very thin. Definitely not the worst thing in the world, but keep it in mind if you have a poor back or need a bit more cushion when sleeping. It's about the same or slightly worse than other hostels I have stayed at. Secondly, one of the worst parts about shared sleeping like at a hostel or capsule hotel is you are rolling the dice on your roommates and how courteous they are. One thing I wish more of these types of places did was have staff available at all times and an anonymous way to report disruptions in the night. Our last night staying we had some extremely rude and loud roommates, making noise at all hours, even around 2-3AM when I assume they got back from bars/clubbing. Slamming doors, opening their bags with absolutely no care, holding loud, full conversations. When you're left to self-police the "rules" such as quiet hours like that, it's a huge risk to your own safety or of your personal belongings to pick a fight, not to mention causing more of a disturbance for other guests. If you're going to have "quiet hours," you should do more to assist in enforcing them. The types of guests who come to Japan to go clubbing and then wake up 10 other people in their hostel room at 3AM are not the types of guests you should welcome to your establishment, because it really is a nice place. My two cents.

The guy on the picture worked there. He was really friendly while sober, later on he threatend a few people, he also tried it with me. I think you should be more proffesional if you are at such postion.

• Paddy Fahy (1/5): - There is very little to like about this hostel 1.The mattress in the dorms were basically just a cheap piece of foam. They were extremely uncomfortable. I fully understand that mattresses in Asia can be different to those in the West, but i have stayed in many hostels in Japan and beyond. The ones in Backstage were the cheapest of the cheapest and extremely uncomfortable.. 2. The only common area available was in the bar which did not open until 3pm. Up to 3pm, there isn't even a chair available. There are 3 places to sit; on your bed, on the toilet or on the stairs. This "hostel" was nothing more than rooms above a bar, without any of the facilities normally associated with a hostel

• Gayl (10/5): - I did not expect this hostel to grow on me as much as it did; the bar on the first floor is a prime hangout spot to socialize with other guests and locals alike, staff was very friendly and a blast to spend time with before getting a good night's rest in a very comfortable bed. This place is no doubt at the top of my list of go-to's in Osaka, great value for an attractive price.

Good social vibes in this place, with people chatting outside till the next morning. Tight squeeze in the bedrooms and overall place could be renovated for a fresher vibe as it feels a bit old and worn down, but toilets and bedrooms are kept clean by staff.

• Tatiana (10/5): - I stayed there because of the bar. I've stayed in many places in Osaka and it was the cleanest non-capsule hostel. Maybe compared to the rest of Japan is not as clean but for Osaka it's really good. The bed was comfortable. It was noisy because of the road. The bar though is very social, you can meet locals. That's something very rare in Japan so I'm happy with my stay. It's not a place for people who want a quiet stay and wake up early I think.

The host takes the time to show you your bed and stays available to give you advices on what to do. Good drinks and good deals at the bar. Would definitely come back again. Thank you ! • Živa (7/5): Everything ok, except be prepared to be very very cramped inside the room. - The staff is really nice, it was clean and the bathroom in specious. everything else was good and would recommend. The only problem we had was that if you would remove one bunk bed in the room it would be totally fine for a hostel and comfortable. The room is too small for that many people to be cramped inside. You are literally walking on each other and if one opens their bag there is literally no where to walk, also the only place to store bags is under the bed, so if you have the upper bunk bed, you can’t put bags anywhere.

• Sebastian (5/5): - The location is nice and you are really central in Osaka. The staff is really friendly and also helps you to connect with people if you hang out at the bar. The floors and rooms are quite small. There was only one old small toilet and shower for my floor and not much space for your stuff, no public space until the bar opens. Although I saw someone cleaning almost everyday, it still didnt seem to clean and I also had some bed bug bites and left one day earlier because of that.

• Lewis (9/5): - The staff are very friendly and helpful with recommendations, or just to chat to at the bar. This bar is a decent place to meet other travellers, since people generally stay here with that in mind! It's about a 25 minute walk from the main area of Dotonbori so you can definitely make your way back in a drunken stupor at 5am like I did. Let's be honest, Japan's standard for hostels far exceeds most other countries so you're never going to get a bad one from my experience. That being said, the beds are not that private since you can't cover a certain section with a curtain so others could just see me sleeping if they really felt like it. The room also builds smell pretty easily unfortunately. You stay here for the people, not the facilities.

C'è una lavanderia e i letti sono dotati di tendina nelle camerate. Le camere, almeno per il dormitorio misto, erano al terzo piano con una scala abbastanza ripida e senza ascensori, da considerare se si hanno bagagli ingombranti. Il bagno vicino alla camerata è molto piccolo e non ci sono i servizi dei moderni wc che si trovano in Giappone.

There was a comfortable smoking area right outside. It was so warm inside the dormitory. Everyone was sweating so much. Mattress was also uncomfortable.

• Jocelyn (8/5): Hébergement pas cher avec bar intégré, à 20 minutes de marche de Dotonbori - Les hôtes étaient très sympathiques, et la présence du bar était très agréable pour quelqu'un qui voyage seul et qui a envie de socialiser un peu. Le prix était excellent, le moins cher de mon voyage jusqu'à maintenant. Les gens revenaient de leur soirée tard le soir et parfois arrivaient et défaisaient leurs sacs, faisant pas mal de bruits. Ils parlaient un peu trop fort entre eux considérant l'heure tardive. Un petit rappel d'être courtois passé une certaine heure serait définitivement bienvenu.
